administrators say layoffs and school closures are likely coming. >> putting the bond measure on the november ballot. >> this will be the largest bond measure in the district's history. however, it would only cover a fraction of what is needed. and as the district grapples with their own budget, help is now finally on the way for educators and staff who simply cannot afford to live or work in the city. >> and currently the average rent for a single bedroom apartment is $2,900 right here in the city of san francisco. today the mayor's office of the community housing held a lottery drawing to see what teachers and staff will qualify for the district's first affordable housing project. >> the need is so great. 938 people applied for a coveted space at 135-unit village on 43rd and judah in the sunset district. >> i had a chance to speak to one teacher who says landing a

san francisco began building an affordable housing village for educators, he did not hesitate to apply. >> i applied the first day, i do not high. >> reporter: this is one of the units he's hoping to land. >> this is a nearly complete three bedroom home. >> reporter: matt franklin is the ceo of building the 135 unit. >> the rent will be below market and calibrated to market, so it is not too great for them to fill the household. >> this is my favorite space in the building with a million door view of the ocean. >> we know it is not easy for teachers. it's hard to live in the bay area on teacher pay. >> reporter: he lives in that harsh and expensive reality.

>> the prices were definitely sold to have a one bedroom for $2,200 a month. i was like this is crazy. >> reporter: and he is so crazy that several teachers had to move to more affordable cities. for other educators, this is a chance to stay in san francisco. >> and i think this will speak to all of retention, right? especially for teachers that hook like myself. >> reporter: to continue to make that connection. >> you love the kids? >> i love the kids. >> reporter: the same kids he hopes to continue to teach at the school within the district and in the city he calls home. and the visit is just the first of three affordable housing projects to two others including a 63-unit project in the mission district and a 75-unit complex in hayes valley. and as for our kindergartener teacher, we would try to find out, if not, he would get that lottery, but he did get his name drawn, so

into piles. they started the protest more than three weeks ago to divest from companies doing business for israel. but unlike the protest in ucla in this case, no campus police involved would move in. instead it appears that the protesters are making the decision to end the encampment. >> we do have a crew there talking to demonstrators with calls out, we'll have more on this together as it comes in. and pushing for strict new rules on the self-checkout technology. a new bill would force the grocery and drugstores to remove them unless they follow certain rules. that will include having an employee monitor the lanes and limiting customers to ten items or less today. the state senate, will join our newscast at that time that will happen in the south checkout lane,

teachers who could also answer questions about the material. that's pretty incredible. one thing they did not explain though is how google will use it to learn more about its users. just yesterday open ai, which is owned by microsoft, we should note, launched a faster model of chatgpt that's called 4-0 open ai claims they could carry conversations with users on uploaded photos, documents, charts. and it also now has real-time translation built in. a group is now suing the new law that would force the sale or ban. they also filed a similar lawsuit. the company says they had be impossible to divest at the platform as a separate entity for the rest of

tiktok, which has one billion users worldwide. meme stocks are soaring once again today. it's a thoughback to three years ago when struggling companies like gamestop and amc got some boost from social media. gamestop stock price rose 74% yesterday and another 60% today. sparking the run in a twitter post showing a single image of the man, sitting up in his chair. and the man who posted it is the investor keith gill. also known as roaring kitty. he has not been active on twitter since 2021 when he and a group of amateur investors upended wall street. they pushed these stocks so much higher that the people who have bet against them were forced to buy their positions back and a lot of them lost big money. >> gill has had his fair share of critics who claim he manipulated the market. in february of 2021, he was called to testify in front of the house financial services

mugs. several u.s. airlines are suing the biden administration. upset over the slew of new rules including ones is that will force the airlines to disclose all fees upfront. the airlines claim the rules exceed the departments of transportation authority. the department responded in a statement that they will defend their rule to ensure travelers could see the full price of a flight before they purchase a ticket. meanwhile airports are facing a massive shortage of air traffic controllers. they

are down about 3,000 employees. the federal aviation administration says they need to fill those positions within the next few months. the shortage will come amid reports of close calls between planes in new york and virginia earlier this year. president biden is raising tariffs on chinese goods and green technology. he says it is the level and uneven playing field to protect u.s. workers. skyler henry on the election year move that's drawing a response from his republican rival. >> biden surrounded by union workers signed strong new tariffs, targeting chinese made goods and green technology. because he says they are creating the uneven playing field. >> to make sure the workers, and the american business corporations can compete and win in the industries of the future. >> reporter: the move will push their tax on chinese steel up to 25%. the semi conductors will be hit with a 50% tariff. electric batteries will rise to

laughed today. then you looked at the other camera and it was completely gray. >> it depends on which camera and plenty of sunshine, nope, it's gone. nevermind. we're in the middle of the changeover right now as the fog is spreading away from the coast. this is what we expect and what we are going to see for the next seven, probably ten days or so. not much change in the big picture. the area is close enough to nudge the storm track well to the north, but far enough away that the winds in the upper levels are overcoming the on shore breeze and just a general quiet weather pattern that will prevail throughout the next several days. which means the fog is going to do their usual back and forth dance and their temperatures will not change a whole lot. pretty similar to where we were today in the 50s, the 60s, the 70s, the usual spread here. only 57 degrees at half moon bay. san francisco will return to the low 60s after yesterday,

making it to 59. temperatures climbed to the mid to upper 70s in santa rosa and san jose and again, almost identical temperatures in stored tomorrow. maybe a degree or two warmer in the santa clara valley. after we get rid of the morning fog. it will spread across the bay and make a big push to begin the day on wednesday. gone by 8:00, 9:00 or so. the exception might be the north bay where they might take 10:00 for the visibilities to improve. it will take until midday for the fog to back all the way up to the coast. like today, maybe a little bit of sunshine peeking through the clouds if they retreat just a bit off the coastline. but that will be a short lived pattern. the fog will be surging back in by this time tomorrow. mostly in the low to mid-50s, just a cool spot dipping down barely below 50 degrees into the upper 40s. then the highs tomorrow, exactly where we were today. and the santa clara valley, likely to reach up into the low 80s. a few degrees warmer today. also 80 degrees for

santa rosa and the temperatures around 80 degrees, forecasting 81 degrees for livermore, right around 80 degrees. maybe a few degrees warmer today and then maybe it will be optimistic. about 30 to 45 minutes of sunshine will make a big difference there. temperatures in san francisco up to the mid-60s, exactly normal. and then in the middle portion of the 70s for most of the north bay and the warmer spots that are reaching into the upper 70s by tomorrow afternoon. the wind is not going to be a big factor to start the day, but they are going to pick up throughout the rest of wednesday. some stronger gusts will be making their way through the delta at any point over the next several days, all the way through the weekend. the strongest gusts will trigger late afternoon right around this time again on wednesday. but even the strongest gusts will be in the 20 to 25 miles an hour range. looking farther down the line because we are getting closer to memorial day weekend. it's now 13 days away. and the 8 to 14-day outlook prediction center shows are almost exactly

average temperatures over the next several days. replaced by slightly below normal temperatures as we head towards late may. something we'll continue to monitor as we get closer to the next holiday weekend. a lot of folks are looking forward to the unofficial day of summer. we'll let you know when everything involves in the forecast. not much has changed. inland temperatures in the 70s across the board and the warmer spots reaching up to above 80 degrees. very little changed around the bay. tomorrow is likely the warmest day for most of the bay area within the bayside temperatures getting up to the 70s, hovering in the mid to upper 60s throughout weekend. you want consistency? head for the coast. the clouds, they're tough to shake. keeping temperatures within two degrees of each other on any day-to-day basis. for 58 on the coolest days to around 60 degrees for the highs tomorrow. that's about as consistent as it gets with this weather pattern. you just need to be stuck in place, but it's not a bad place to be stuck. >> all right, thanks, paul. time for a check ahead at 6:00. we will switch over to

will be making his return. rodgers from chico made his jets debut on monday night football last season before suffering a tendon injury in the snap of the game. that season ending injury is a result of the bills, now the 49ers. he won't be short on motivation come september. the last time rodgers faced the niners is the last playoff game with the packers. san francisco came back in the fourth quarter to set up the walk-off field goal, which set the niners to the nfc championship. rodgers record is 6-7 all time against the niners, and he has lost all four playoff meetings. the full nfl schedule will be released tomorrow night. we told you the top of the newscast, we'll do it again.
