( ♪♪ ) from cbs news bay area, this is the morning edition. embattled alameda county district attorney pamela price keeps her promise. officers charged in the death of mario gonzalez. the district attorney speaks more about the case.

the battle across the bay gets legal. sfo is responding to oakland international's plan to include san francisco in its name. governor newsom is announcing new plans to get people off the street. his new housing accountability unit will push cities to meet with state housing targets or be held accountable. this comes after a recent audit says the state failed to track whether $24 billion in homeless funding actually worked. the state is also giving more money to help local governments move people into encampments from state property into temporary permanent housing. on monday, the supreme court is slated to hear a case that will impact how cities can address the surging homeless population. the justices will weigh arguments in a case involving the homeless and bands on where they may sleep. the suit involves whether laws that punish homeless people for camping on public property are cruel and unusual.

california attorney general rob bonta says that the state's housing crisis comes down to the same issue that we have been facing for years, cities are not just building up new housing units. california set a goal to build 2.5 million homes by 2030 but he says right now we are on pace to fall well short of that goal. >> you don't need me to tell you the crisis we are in when it comes to homelessness, when it comes to housing in the state of california. we are in a full state of emergency. >> the state will also focus on making sure renters are protected from unlawful evictions or discriminations. happy friday to all of you. look at those clear skies in san jose and oakland. it is just beautiful, widespread. >> throughout the bay area, we are off to a cool and cloudy start. our daytime highs once again are above average . some upper 50s along the coast and

along the peninsula. other than that, a beautiful way to kick off the weekend. the winds are light moving in from the north around 10 miles per hour this afternoon. daytime highs down to san jose, 75 degrees. if you like the 80s we had yesterday, you are in luck. we have more right around the corner. a new area of high pressure will bridge its way in from offshore. once we head into late next week, cold fronts will be moving in offshore and that will cool us off to the low 60s. not only in our inland areas but this is interesting. if you live all the way off into the east bay near antioch, we will all be in the low 60s by next thursday with a chance of showers by next friday. the mother of mario gonzalez is planning on attending a vigil just hours after new charges were filed against three alameda police officers over her son's death. mario gonzalez was pinned to

the ground in that east bay park three years ago and today, the officers trying to arrest him that held him down for several minutes before he fell unconscious and died. his death prompted protest movements and calls for justice last night. alameda county district attorney pamela price announced new charges against those officers involved. with more, here is andrea nakano. >> this happened in april 2021. officers were looking into a case of a possible theft in the area as they tried to question mario gonzalez. the 26-year-old man was forced to lay facedown on the ground. family members spoke out after the incident wondering how this could happen to charges. that can carry a sentence of up to 4 years. in
