hard to do. >> reporter: prescribed medication is legal in california but psychedelic drugs commonly known as ecstasy are not. the state senator scott wiener is trying to change that >> it is all in the shadows because it is technically a crime. so, we are really, our primary goal is to bring it out of the shadows. >> reporter: his year's long push to decriminalize psychedelic drugs came to a halt after newsom's veto. it will not make it legal but rather open the door for psychedelic-assisted therapists >> we want them to be able to be certified out in the sunlight not worried about getting arrested. and, and that is really one of our goals here. >> reporter: the california coalition for psychedelic safety and education, one of the most critics of the bill now supports the latest version. >> we felt that it regulated access should come first and

learn from that before we explore decriminalizing it. >> i think the impact could be profound in terms of giving people another option to heal and to have that be done in a regulated safe environment. >> the combination of working with the ketamine and the therapy fused things for me in a way that was really, really impactful. >> for nina, the shift that she has experienced is enough proof for her. >> the bill passed a major committee hearing on monday. greg bert was among those that testified against it saying psychedelics could have dangerous reactions. >> seizures, heart issues, anxiety, hill hallucinations, now, sometimes people have good reaction with it but there are a lot of people with terrible reactions. they think they can

fly, they don't know where they are. violent reactions to this. >> now, if passed the bill would establish a licensing board and would require the drug facilitators to hold at least one medical license. the police arrested a 14-year-old for torching a self-driving car in san francisco's chinatown. remember this? this video came out in february when a group of people surrounded the car. at least one of them shot fireworks inside of it. no word on any other arrests. in san francisco, a sting to catch speeding drivers. this was happening at westportal in the same neighborhood where a speeding driver hit and killed a family of four at a bus stop. we have been following this operation all day and we will have more at 8:00 on pix plus. san francisco's district attorney wants anyone stuck in golden gate bridge gridlock on monday to file a report with the chp. 26 people were arrested during protests that shutdown the bridge for hours

in both directions. the da says anyone who was caught up in that could be a victim of false imprisonment. meantime we don't know what is happening with the 12 people arrested during a protest that shutdown 880. pamela price says her office is waiting for chp to send them case inforin addition in a statement, the office supports the process but the public safety could not be compromised in exercising the first amendment right of free speech >> in oakland, several historic light poles were vandalized. we show you the damage. now, it is almost 100 years old in the beautiful green petina. that is the rim nal copper that is what makes them attractive to thieves. >> reporter: michael lives only a few blocks from lake merit, works from home most of the time that is why he comes down to the lake twice a day >> sunshine, nature, the people, i like being around the people and it makes me feel

public works employees were out putting up temporary poles and lights. 10 poles are damaged or musing some trees fell down on the lights in the storms and others were vandalized. cut off at the base and fires ripped out or damaged from 34 curb electrical boxes. possibly to steal the copper. >> because the original lampposts were installed in 1925. the city can not order more. they have toen custom-made at a -- have to be custom-made at a price $15,000 a piece. the warrior's season ended in embarrassing fashion. the doves are now facing tough questions about their future, vern? >> absolutely. you don't have to look too far to find a discussion about this. it is everywhere. curry, under contract, he will make over $55 million next year. draymond

. santa clara county attorney arrested two drug dealers for murder for selling the drugs that killed a toddler. we have details on this. this story is so disturbing just looking at that poor baby's photo. hard to look at >> absolutely heartbreaking. to charge a case like had as a murder case it is very rare. it is virtually unprecedented. but, the district attorney's office says it speaks to the dangers to which this little child was exposed and to the reckless disregard for her safety and well being. >> i just want to emphasize

fentanyl is. we expect adults to take care of children. >> prosecutors say baby winter never had a chance. in fact, investigators say she had enough fentanyl and methamphetamine to kill 25 children let alone one. >> that is really just the medical cause. truly, the cause of death is the deliberate, dangerous, reckless actions of these four individuals. >> reporter: phillip and paige appeared in a courtroom to be arraigned on murder charges the district attorney's office says they plan to prosecute them along baby winter's parents who also have been charged with murder. the investigators say the four adults lived together in this san jose neighborhood. alleged they provided the drug which is investigators were left littering their condo and within easy reach of the 18-month-old. >> they showed a disregard for human life. and that is why we

charged them with murder. >> prosecutors say the four new the drugs they were using were dangerous and potentially deadly. did little if anything to shield the 18-month-old from the consequences of their addiction. >> these individuals knew how dangerous fentanyl was and lethal to themselves as user but knew it was lethal for a child to be around fentanyl. the district attorney's office says the next move is to merge the two separate cases as one because they are going to pursue all four of them as a single case. >> we will have to see how it plays out, obviously, a question of precedent and other cases like this are handled in the future. so sad for that baby. and remaining family members, thank you. google is planning layoff more employees and relocate some of them overseas, plans

to relocate roles to hubs in india, ireland and mexico. in january google said there would be more layoffs. a warm day across the bay area and in places where it is normally cooler, right, paul? >> yes the temperature in san francisco topped off at 73 degrees today. 10 degrees above average. despite the layer of high clouds we are seeing as we look out our windows here. a little bit of haze. not fog, just haze sneaking through the golden gate as we turn to the monitor. now, patchy fog as we head through tonight. what little bit you are seeing in the golden gate will not be widespread as we go through tonight and tomorrow morning. passing clouds over head tomorrow and friday. similar to what we had today, filtering the sunshine, not blocking it entirely. high temperatures above average, looking dry heading through the weekend.

more substantial changes in store by the middle of next week. we will talk about that in a moment. perspectives, looking west. it will be a beautiful sunset out there this evening with the high clouds reflecting the last rays of sunlight. half an hour away. middle 70s, still in livermore and concord right at 70 in san jose and 73 in santa acrossa. middle 60s. the numbers in san francisco and oakland are almost exactly where we are supposed to top out in the middle of the afternoon that is where we are 30 minutes before the sun goes down. the rest of tonight, a tiny bit of fog trying to develop. mentioned that when we were looking at the golden gate. going to be confined to along the coast and largely off shore to start the day tomorrow morning. that will largely dissipate back away from the coast. high clouds, the duller shade of gray on future cast here heading through the morning and the afternoon. the temperatures tonight, a few degrees above average, 40s, lower 50s to begin the day on thursday and

temperatures will warm up. and 78 degrees in morgan hill. not as warm as today but normal. 80 inland in the east bay. 80 degrees for fremont and down the peninsula in redwood city. half moon bay, 61 degrees today, forecasting your high temperature to be 65 tomorrow. let's go for it. make it to the middle 60s the best you are going to get. the marine layer will return heading into the weekend. close to 70 in san francisco. oakland, middle to upper 70s inland in the north bay. the temperatures will not be quite as warm heading into the weekend. they will still be above average. above average temperatures this time of the year it means elevated pollen count. no strong onshore wind to kind of rearrange the atmosphere and push it away from the bay area. no rain chances in the forecast through the weekend to wash any of the pollen out of the atmosphere.

now, there are rain chances down-the-line. 8-14 day outlook taking us to may first. above normal temperature trend we are enjoying right now below average temperatures from around the corner from april to may. that is a long way down-the-line. inland, the temperatures will be well into the 70s through the weekend and to start next week and below average temperature trend. going to begin on tuesday with a chance of showers for the very last day of the seven-day forecast a week from today. it is lower than a 50/50 chance, just the beginning of the unsettled pattern that we will have to monitor heading through the next couple of days. not as warm. pleasant through the weekend. more importantly, after so much weather, so far in 2024. not every weekend it seems like it. we are in for dry conditions as we head

. disneyland in southern california could be seeing upgrades after anaheim city council unanimously agreed to let disney move forward with its nearly $2 billion expansion plan for its parks. part of the deal is disney has to give $50 million to the city of anaheim to support housing and infrastructure. but nearby residents have mixed feelings about there. >> i am proud to share my full support of disneyland forward. >> during construction there will be air pollution. who is that going to impact? people in my neighborhood. >> so, this expansion deal includes plans to buy a nearby road for $40 million t. is occupied by the disneyland hotel and parking right now. following the approval governor newsom support the business deals like this is saying disneyland wanting to expand is a sign of welcoming businesses in the state. elephant strolling down the

. this circus elephant trotting around the streets had drivers doing a double take in montana. a lot of them wondering what is she doing out here? how did she get loose? her is viola. she was getting a bath when she got scared from a truck backfiring and took off. residents were amused seeing it roaming around town. some people poked fun about her checking out local hot spots >> going over to the casino, trying to play some slots, you know, having a fun time, making the best of her experience. >> an elephant after my own heart. slots. she only walked half a block before her handlers got her and skillfully put her back in her trailer.
