returning to the bay in oakland. good morning, everybody. nice to have you with us as we celebrate tara vanderveer and other powerhouse women in sports. even we've got a powerhouse woman climbing the eiffel tower by a rope. >> amazing. >> it's amazing and good morning, everybody. >> reed cowan, nicole zaloumis here, you know just when i thought the little league baseball days would be over this year with my 12-year-old son, i'm seeing that story and i'm like my 5-year-old kelsey. there's hope girl. oh my goodnessment okay. a live look outside on this thursday morning. and jessica, there's hope for a beautiful day today. we've had a string of beautiful days here in the bay area. but unfortunately, it's not doing to last. right? no. it's coming to an end as we head into the next couple of days and another cold front around the corner bringing in some chilly conditions for the weekend. but before we get to that, the bad news, quote unquote, let's enjoy what we have this morning. we're waking up to a beautiful sunrise right now down into the santa clara

valley. i want to show you our daytime highs later into this afternoon. we're going to be sitting at 80 degrees today near san jose. 81 in livermore and beautiful 80s stretching off into the east bay. this is day two of the same forecast and all the way up into san francisco, a little bit cooler compared to yesterday there. 67 this afternoon. that puts us about four degrees above average and 76 in the santa rosa, what a nice day for us heading into this afternoon. 12 degrees above average near concord and san jose. it's interesting as we take a look at the next couple of days we're talking about that cold front and notice how temperatures dip quick as we head into our saturday forecast. this is just san jose. punt painting a really good picture what all of us are going to experience as we head into the weekend forecast and then a gradual warm-up next week. but as temperatures start to dip, interestingly enough rain chances start to increase. that's what happens when low pressure moves its way in from offshore, we see cooler conditions and gustier conditions too and of course the splash of showers that's going to move in right around the corner for us. starting late friday night lasting all throughout our saturday forecast. and then tapering off as we head into sunday. so we're going to break apart that forecast coming up in just

a bit. like i said, today is a beautiful day to get out there and get some fresh air, it's dry this afternoon and expecting 80s in the inland areas and upper 60s and lower 70s along the peninsula and coast a great day to get out there and get some fresh air. the pollen count is better now too. more on the rain and how much you can expect coming up in just a bit. for now over to you in nicole. the bay area bridges are a massive part of the commute to work. we take a look at the bay bridge and as you can see, their metering lights are now on. seeing that buildup just after the toll plaza. as you come in from emeryville and oakland. not too bad though making that drive over in san francisco. how about a look at the golden gate bridge? a few more cars coming in from southbound 101. a little slow in sausalito as you approach. but overall, still in the green. not too bad in san mateo. usually this is a little bit more congested. so clear conditions in both directions. yeah, we're following the breaking news out of san

joaquin county. look at this. firefighters responding to a massive fire. this is near tracy. the officials say at least two-thirds of the "gma" palette recycling corporation yard is burning. started just before 2:00 in the morning so this thing has been going for four hours and look at that. even with those boom trucks shooting the water down, the fire still rages and smoke seen reportedly for at least 19 -- well, at least -- several miles. and then homes have been evacuated as well. we're almost in 10, 20 range of homes that have been evacuated. also sort of to position you as to what's going on there, there's a school across the street. word is right now that there's some discussion whether that school will even open this morning. fire crews are saying there's no water supply in the area so they're having to shuttle water in. which is making that battle even more difficult and maybe why it's been going on for four hours. so this is an active story and breaking news story. and we'll keep you updated as we hear more. we know a lot of you who live in

the area want to get some answers. now to that story that has travelers and tourists and locals talking. okay. so what do you think of this? should oakland's airport add san francisco bay to its name? that's going to be decided by the oakland airport commission today. as opposition across the bay in san francisco continues to mount and get stronger. bosses at the port of oakland want the name change to boost travelers. they say many travelers who are unfamiliar with our region fly into sfo even if their destination is across the bay bridge over to the east bay. but the san francisco city attorney wants to ground oakland's plans say sending a strong letter in opposition and in fact threatening to sue the argument there that the change violates trademark on san francisco's airport. and by the way, the opposition mounts. the san mateo county board of supervisors, they also voted to oppose. so one of the arguments is that travelers will be confused so we went to x and we'd like to have community conversation and here's what you are saying. overwhelming number of you in the poll say yes, the change would be

confusing to travelers. in the next half hour we're live talking to those travelers in oakland and then remember this. at 7:00 over on pix+ 44 cable 12, we'll continue this community conversation. giving you a voice on this issue in our "people are talking" segment. okay so while this plays out over at sfo there's a new story with a headline. hundreds of united airlines flight attendants, they are going to rally and demand that the airline deliver a new contract. they say it's just time to get the job done. apparently negotiations have dragged on for more than two years and they want more money and they want improved working conditions and they're digging in their heels and in fact united says they're working right now with the union to reach an agreement but much to watch there as well. well, update now to the meeting of our state's top education bosses. this morning, we can tell you cal graduate rich lyons is uc berkeley' next chancellor. the top priority of student safety on and off-campus as a major item.

first responders are true heroes among us. one east bay man is showing gratitude to the men who saved his life. he told our andrea nakano how these heroes gave him a second chance. >> reporter: there were hugs and tears at falck headquarters in livermore, a truly emotional moment for paramedic dave raymond. >> important for me to come back to you guys. >> reporter: this was the first time a patient stopped by to say thank you. >> i've been in this job for 32 years and guess what? you are the first. >> to be able to have that opportunity to say that. i can't express the joy that i'm feeling. in knowing that i'm -- getting to talk to you. >> yeah, appreciate it. >> reporter: raymond and emt jason vera helped save jeff herrington's life roughly five months ago. the 53-year-old went into cardiac arrest and came very close to leaving his wife and two kids just 12 and 13 behind.

>> i was dead for 20 minutes and i came back. they don't get gratitude. they don't get it enough. and -- and i recognize that and i needed to be here to thank them. >> reporter: herrington is a former b.a.r.t. police officer. he knew he had a heart condition, but admits he didn't take the best care of his health. but after getting a second chance to watch his kids grow up, he's not taking anything for granted anymore. >> their efforts, you know, mean something to me. and their efforts means that i'm taking full advantage of the moment. that my life span's going to be way longer than it would have been because i'm living better and just taking advantage of what the beautiful gift that they gave me from their hard work. >> reporter: as an ex-military officer, dave raymond gave herrington a challenge coin as a symbol of the bond the men will share for the rest of their lives. >> speechless. grateful. and

hope people learn that it takes a team. that we're just part of it. >> reporter: that team gave one of the most valuable gifts of all. these first responders will say it's just part of their jobs. >> it doesn't make a difference. who you are, what you believe in, the color of your skin. that doesn't matter. we're human. you know? life is precious. >> reporter: but they're real life heroes as they try to save one life at a time. >> well t paramedics weren't the only heroes that day. they told andrea jeff's wife helped them out by starting cpr herself. it's something she learned to do when she was a lifeguard and a skill they encourage everybody to pick up. 6:10 in the morning. lessons in life-saving and selfless service. you are going to neat an east bay man and hear why he stepped forward to help a total stranger and how doing the same could lift your life as well. and plus severe storms bearing down on the south. new

firefighters responding to a massive fire near tracy along grant line road. officials say at least two-thirds of the gma palette recycling corporation yard is on fire. you can see they are fighting it there. next to the railroad tracks at thit's four hour and 13 minutes since that call first came in. at least 19 nearby homes evacuated. also in addition to that railroad crossing nearby, there's a school just across the street from that. no word if that school will be open this morning. we're asking. pg&e also letting us know that hundreds of customers in the area are without electricity because of the fire. no water supply in the area. so it's just insult to injury over and over and over and we're going in closer on the flames and you can see what they're doing to that -- it's really a lot of fuel. the palettes that were piled up there. they are now white hot in the heat of the flames. so far, fire crews are having to shuttle water in. that's just making this even more difficult of a fight. so a huge story there. in san joaquin county, near tracy,

we're understanding many of you are concerned about this. so where you are concerned soare we. nicole? well, reed, this is an all too familiar sight for a popular oakland doughnut shop. just got robbed for a fourth time in this past year. this time, one of the suspects hopped over the counter at colonial doughnuts while another ripped out the cash register and a third swung around a golf club. this robbery happened on march 1st. the owner told us she's worried that she won't be able to staff her store if thieves keep targeting them. damage from storms in the south in the face of heavy flooding and rains. we can tell you right now electricity is out for hundreds of thousands this morning all because of tornadoes. some homes are a total loss and jess is joining us now. a major intersection of news and weather. major damage in the wind, jess. >> so true. i mean check out this path of destruction from an ef1 tornado that left behind. this is actually over

in slidell, louisiana. wind speeds clocked in nearly 110 miles per hour. you can see how severe that damage to the homes really is. now thankfully, the people were able to get out safely and quickly. and there haven't been any reports of any deaths from that. now at ef1 tornado struck the city of katy in texas. businesses were destroyed and debris is still everywhere this morning. the national weather service said that the wind speeds with this one got up to around 90 miles an hour. and that one didn't have much of a track. but the winds didn't just rip up infrastructure. check out the coast waters just close to mobile, alabama. intense winds and rain helping it rise on to the freeways and causeways and this route right here you are seeing on the screen, is actually interstate 10 connecting mobile and spanish fort. so lots of active weather throughout the south and we noticed that a lot this week. because if you remember, when we were forecasting for the path of totality, we noticed there were a lot of active storms in the region. and we are still seeing the impacts from the storms today. now back here in the bay area, we were

dealing with high pressure keeping us nice and dry this week. and that's what we were dealing with as that eclipse happened earlier this week. but we have some late week changes and that's going to come in pretty quick and new system moving in from offshore. and an area of low pressure bringing in cool weather and some gusty conditions and of course the rain too. today we're sitting in the 80s for our daytime highs with mostly sunny skies into this afternoon in our inland areas. upper 60s along the coast. and the peninsula. it's going to be a great day for us today to get out there and do some outdoor activities and take the kids to the park. before this area of low pressure moves in. but luckily this is an overnight system for the most part so many of us are just going to be sleeping through it. the first band of rain moves in just around 10:00, 11:00 friday night and it continues to sweep into the sacramento valley. and eventually up into the sierra as we wake up on saturday morning. we're actually going to get a little bit of a break just ahead -- just behind that first band of rain moving in from offshore. now that center so it will bring in more unsettled weather into the saturday afternoon forecast giving us us close to around a

half inch of rain on average in the bay but that system will die down in the sunday forecast and we're left with dry skies right around the corner. daytime highs today, they're expected to hit the 60s near san francisco. 70s into redwood city and 80s all the way off into the east bay. this is a beautiful forecast and it's already beautiful this morning with clear skies and a beautiful sunrise down into the santa clara valley. with blue now it's yellow and we're going to continue to watch the sky really highlight in the afternoon hours today. we're also taking a live lookbehind me at the bay bridge. clear conditions to start the day. because we're still dealing with light winds into the afternoon hours today. by friday, notice how the 80s in the inland areas drop down to the 60s just ahead of the cold front. we'll continue to cool down in the low 50s into our saturday forecast. luckily we warm up into next week with more sunshine around the corner. nicole? all right, jessica, take a look at the roadways it's getting a little slow for our usual areas. over on southbound

880, between san lorenzo and union city, we're starting to see those pockets of slow speeds. earlier commuters dealt with an incident on the 238 connector ramp that was blocked due to an overturned big rig. so we can't say if this area of traffic is picking up due to that. drivers are struggling with bumper-to-bumper traffic over at highway 4. a normal hotspot for those going towards concord where we continue to see a bit of sluggish conditions over on 680. well, a special morning for so many in our country who know what it's like to have a loved one need a life-saving organ transplants. this morning we are celebrating people building bridges to life for the sick by becoming donors. shawn chitnis now with the story of one man in the east bay who saw a need and stepped forward offering somebody else a thumbs up to life. >> i knew i had to do it. i knew i had to become an organ donor and i could not imagine anything more satisfying than getting to be an organ donor and enjoy it in life.

>> reporter: luis mayen has worked for years at donor network west in san ramon. they're a federally recognized organization identifying organs available to help people in need around northern california. >> i knew the need was there. i -- we all know the need is there. what really put me over the edge, what made me realize that i needed to do this, was getting more information about how safe it was. >> reporter: this job constantly reminds him about the impact of donating life, including this wall in the office which celebrates all who gave to donor network west in their first year with a butterfly for each donation. luis is also on the board of advisors for the national kidney foundation. >> i thought about her every day before i went to sleep and i thought about her every day when i woke up. >> reporter: earlier this year, he became a living donor after learning he could help a woman he didn't know living on the other side of the country. three months later, he can't stop thinking about the impact it's having on her life and his own. >> i hope that i have given her

time with her family. and i hope that i have given her a quality of life back. and i -- i know that she thinks of me just probably as much as i think of her. >> reporter: several weeks later, all he knows is that his kidney went to a 42-year-old woman in new york. >> i feel so happy every single day. thinking about -- and i think about this woman that i don't even know. knowing that she has a new lease on life and she gets to enjoy this kidney that i really wasn't even using. >> reporter: while the process takes time and plenty of preparation, eventually leading to surgery and recovery, it was all worth it for luis and he hopes others will consider the first step in donating life. >> we all have the power to save someone's life. time now 6:20. her impact from the sidelines will be remembered forever. legendary coach tara vanderv

a legends has officially left the sidelines. stanford women's basketball coach tara vanderveer announced her retirement after winning more games than any college basketball coach in history. vanderveer's head coaching career spans more than four decades and our vern glenn was there as she reflected on her

trail blazing run. >> i honestly have to pinch myself and just say wow. what -- what -- what a ride. >> reporter: when vanderveer took the job in 198 # her own father didn't think he would hear his daughter say those words. >> i called my father to tell him i was leaving ohio state to take the stanford coaching job. he proceeded to tell me that it was an impossible to win at stanford. and the job was a graveyard job. after more about how crazy i was to consider stanford, i interrupted him to tell him that i had taken the job. and he hung up the phone and told my mother she will be unemployed coming home and living with us in three months. >> reporter: tara leaves the bench after 45 seasons as a coach. winning three national titles with the cardinal and winning more games than any college basketball coach in history. men or women. >> my father was right about one thing. the stanford job involved gig digging but instead of a graveyard job,

it's been a gold mine job. >> reporter: her final game as coach at maples was an epic overtime win against iowa state in the second round of the ncaa tournament back on march 24th. >> we couldn't play another game in maples and i just said if that's any last game. this is dun. you know, this was an awesome game. sometimes it's just -- you are ready and i just felt i'm ready. i never really thought i would be. i kind of just -- you know, just felt like maybe i would, you know, kind of just keel oh on the bench. but you know, i mean i gist -- you know, because i love it. i love it. i love it. >> well, meanwhile, stanford announced negotiations for assistant kate paye to take her place. she is a powerhouse and just finished her 17th year as assistant with stanford and also won a national championship as a cardinal player back in 1992. hey, if you need motivation and winning energy today we highly recommend you watch again vanderveer on the mic. this

right now on cbs news bay area at 6:30 in the morning, we continue following that breaking news out of san joaquin county. look at that firefighters doing battle with a massive fire. this is near tracy along grant line road. so we're talking to people up there and officials say at least two-thirds of the gma pallet recycling corporation yard is on fire. it's been a long fire fight and some four and a half hours because the call came in at 2:00 a.m. you can also tell you at least 19 homes nearby evacuated.

watching the weather. >> well, absolutely. it's a lot more clear for us today too which is actually really exciting compared to yesterday's forecast. yesterday we saw well above average temperatures and i mean, 80s in our inland areas and upper 60s and lower 70s along the peninsula. teaser ahead. we're also getting the same forecast today thanks to the area of high pressure that's still sitting really close to the inland areas and that's keeping us dry this afternoon. ahead of a comfort moving its way in later this week. late -- excuse me late friday night into early saturday morning our forecast is going to look a lot different. expecting gusty conditions ahead of the cold front moving in and expecting rainy skies into the saturday forecast and it will be noticeably cooler as you head out the door. and try to just do any outdoor activities heading into the early weekend forecast. this morning we're seeing a little bit of clouds still floating around the bay shoreline and along the coastline. it will clear up into the afternoon hours today. this is gorgeous forecast to get out there and get some fresh air. clouds blanket the area just ahead of the cold front tomorrow evening. and by

late tomorrow night we're talking about 10:00, 11:00, midnight, all the way into our early saturday morning hours, that first band of rain sweeps in from offshore and we continue to watch the circulation of the area of low pressure bring in more moisture all throughout california. heading into the weekend forecast. now we're into the 9:00 a.m. hour on saturday, notice how there's snow up in the sierra. a little bit of a break in from that rain back here in the bay. a really big story in the weekend forecast when it comes to the weather and get there in just a bit but let's take it a step back and talk more about today. the forecast for us heading into this afternoon coming up in just a bit. for now over to you, nicole. all right, thank you, jessica. let's take a look at the roadways. chp is reporting an accident on westbound 580 before the castro street exit. it impacts those who are planning to take the richmond-san rafael bridge. traffic seems to linger as you continue over to marin county, and expect some delays as you plan your morning commute. the bay bridge, not looking so great either. metering lights are on as we see buildup as

well past the toll plaza stretching towards the maze. traffic continues there into san francisco. so just pour that cup of coffee into a to go cup as we are reaching those peak hours out on the roadways. hate, a live look at oakland international airport and a drum beat to a community conversation. listen up friends. what do you think about oakland's airport potentially changing its name to add the words "san francisco bay"? is it confusing? will it prompt a lawsuit by san francisco city attorneys? big decision happening today. our shawn chitnis is live at the oakland airport to test one of the arguments by san francisco bosses that the name change makes things confusing. okay shawn, you are talking to people getting through security this morning. is it confusing to them? >> reporter: reed, good morning. and yeah. the folks we were talking to say that they do understand that concern. and it is yet another busy day here at oakland international airport and take a look at what's happening here in terminal 2. more spring travel as folks are waiting in line to get through security. so we know that there are plenty of

people who are using it and of course the folks who are running this airport say they just want to make sure that they maintain that. there's a $1.6 billion economic impact. 30,000 jobs that are at play here. and they say they have talked to travelers who are international, more than half saying that they're a little confused on where they are. even about a third of domestic travelers who have said that they were unfamiliar with oakland's relationship to the bay area. so those with the port of oakland that will be considering that name change to san francisco bay oakland international airport argue that the airport sits on the san francisco bay. and therefore that is a worthy name change. but over in the city of san francisco, leaders saying that they think this will be confusing and may need to take legal action. here's what a couple overtravellers said to us this morning. >> i mean, i get it. but like -- this is oakland. not san francisco. so that's a little bit confusing. >> i definitely understand why they want to do it. but i -- i

don't see a real genuine reason for them to change it. seems a little extra in my opinion. >> reporter: and so it's worth pointing out that we had one traveler from here in the bay area and another from southern california. there is some agreement that a name change own the one sunged might be helpful. we also want to point out the major carriers including southwest and spirit have shade they are? n support of this particular name change. so all of that leading into the meeting the port of oakland will be having with its board at 3:30 in the afternoon. reed, back to you. >> all right, shawn and going to you and all the travelers, safe travelers out there. what do you think? we went to x to hear this community conversation a majority of you saying yeah. that name change is confusing. people are talking. this conversation continues at 7:00 when you change the channel to pix+ 44

cable 12. nicole? well, all right, reed it's time now a look at this morning's other top stories. san francisco mayor london breed is gearing up for a week long trip to china coming as a tough re-election fight is on the horizon where candidates inner her job have been trying to win over the city's asian american community. breed says she got a formal invitation from chinese president ping. the plan is to try and boost tourism and restimulate some of the city's struggling economy. her office says she'll meet with several business and community leaders in china. breed says she hopes to build on the momentum from last year's apec summit and she's scheduled to leave on saturday. >> to receive an invitation to come to china to talk about these opportunities is really critically important to the long-term success of san francisco. >> the mayor also plans to meet with shanghai's mayor to promote san francisco's 45 year long sister city

relationship. president biden announced the u.s., japan and australia will create a new joint air missile defense network. the president hosted japan's prime minister at the white house as he unveiled several new initiatives to deepen defense and intelligence cooperation between the two countries. the announcements come amid overing concerns over china's global influence. and three people were shot during a large celebration in philadelphia. the event marked the end of the muslim holy month of ramadan. the city's police chief says it appears to have been an armed fight between several people who were taken into custody. federal officials are assisting in the investigation. well, your community station following up on a big story from san francisco's mission district. you know, for months after san francisco imposed the vending ban on mission street we're asking the question, is the solution they proposed working? here it is. the city set up a tented space near the 24th b.a.r.t. station for legal vendors to sell their wares but our jose

martinez found when he talked to them. the vendors feel at that location, there's really nobody to sell to. >> reporter: rodrigo lopez is packing up his stall at el tiangue after eight hours of work, making at least $65. before the mission street vending ban took effect in november, he would have made more like $250 on a typical day. >> i mean, for us, that's not a surprise anymore. but it's going to be a new start all over from zero. >> reporter: now he and other permitted vendors forced off the street are getting word that they'll have to move again later this month. the city is shutting el tiangue down on april 21st. >> a lack of through traffic and foot traffic in the area, excuse me. the location is kind of in the middle of mission street between the two plazas. so you have fewer people getting on and off the bus and b.a.r.t., they're walking by this location. so they came together with us and we've been communicating with the vendors association and decided that it was not worth the resources the city was putting into it. and

that we should close the site and use the resources to help vendors in a different way. >> reporter: that will leave la placita at 24th and capp as a last option for vendors who are out here doing things by the book. >> we don't really know if it's going to be a better place for us or if there's going to be more foot traffic and more sales and if it's going to be better for us. at this point, we don't know. >> reporter: kevin ortiz with the latinx democratic club has been working alongside the vendors and says this particular experiment has been a waste of basically everybody's time and money. >> you know, it's heart-breaking given the fact there's been a ban that's been put into place, preventing folks from being able to sell on the street and then burning money in a space that hasn't been properly marketed. >> reporter: for now, rodrigo says he's going to keep working

it is time now for the money watch report. another sign of cooling inflation this morning. the just released producer price index increased 0.2% from march. less than 3.3%. that was expected. congress is hoping to save the affordable connectivity program and it's running out of money born out of tfamilies who coul' afford internet services without it. next month, the fcc is set to cut those subsidies by more than half. >> from education to employment to scheduling health care appointments to access to health services, everyone deserves affordable internet access. >> a bipartisan senate bill to fund the program has five cosponsors and a house plan to stop a crushing internet price surge has majority support. but it's unclear if speaker mike johnson will bring it to the floor. house republicans are pushing to ransom government spending. and delta is changing how you board their planes. starting next month, you will be assigned boarding zones instead of groups labeled by names. such as sky priority. the airline says the boarding order will not change. it's simply a relabeling the company hopes will speed up the

>> so right here, you will have hundreds o of millions of gallons of water. the water we've captured for this year is enough for about 285,000 households. >> so water bosses in l. a. say since october, the city has collected more than 23 billion gallons of water using sponge infrastructure. all right, well, as you heard, she was just talking about the masters. and the first round of the golf tournament is delayed this morning. it's all because of bad weather in augusta, georgia. this is video from this week and we're lucky enough to see the sports' biggest stars seeing off including tiger woods. tee time is now just before 1:00 this afternoon and at this point it's kind of rare to see him back on the course. woods withdrew during the third round of the masters last year after some limping. you can watch the last two rounds of mastest right here on kpix. the final

round this sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and taking a live look at the oakland coliseum. we all know the future of the a's doesn't look too bright. but there's still hope for baseball in the city. the oakland ballers signed three players from open tryouts this past weekend. and including one familiar face. now we met kelsie whitmore back in 2016 when she first played for the stompers in sonoma. two years ago, whit more made history as the first woman to sign with an mlb partner league team, the staten island ferry hawks. some of the gear from the season is actually in the baseball hall of fame in cooperstown, new york. as for the other two players signed, one is from san francisco and played in the baltimore orioles' minor league system. the other from vacaville and they'll both join whitmore and the rest of the 31 player roster as the team's spring training kicks up in may. i'm so excited to watch her. this is really wonderful

there. this has been going on for hours and we're told at least two-thirds of the gma pallet recycling corporation yard is burning. the call came in just before 2:00 a.m. fire continues to burn just a lot of fuel there from the pallets. at least 19 homes nearby evacuated and an elementary school is not going to be in session today right there near tracy and san joaquin county. you watch the wind patterns when breaking news stories like this happens. what can you tell us. >> absolutely. let's dive into tracy's forecast right now. you can see the smoke and you can see the flames there and it's kind of hard to depict whether or not how gusty it is. but i want to dive into tracy's forecast behind me right now. as we take look at

current conditions throughout the afternoon hours and they're expecting dry conditions. however, look at the winds. they're light right now. the firefighters out there with boots on the ground are only dealing with that max around 5-mile-per-hand keeping a close eye on the wind gusts but as of now, everywhere throughout northern california we're dealing with light conditions. and as of relative humidity, currently we're also seeing really high relative humidity as we head over into the sacramento valley into that region we're just around the 85, 86% range. so let's take it back to the bay real fast and heading into this afternoon's forecast, no matter whether you live in the sacramento valley or back here in the bay you are dealing with dry conditions throughout this afternoon. the clouds that we see along the coastline, they'll start breaking apart into the afternoon hours today. we're all left with sunnier skies and then a mix of sun and clouds early tomorrow morning and a blanket of clouds tomorrow afternoon ahead of a cold front moving its way in. and that's going to bring in a series of showers into late friday night and early saturday morning. many of us are going to be asleep as this cold front moves its way in. let's be honest. but here's what's happening as we wake up saturday morning on the back end of the first band of rain. just into the 7:00, 8:00 hour

on saturday. we are left with drier conditions but there's still a splash of showers in the forecast as center of the area of low pressure will continue to bring in more unsettled weather from the south heading into the afternoon hours on saturday. so we have some big changes around the corner for us. saturday is going to be cool and it's going to be wet and breezy for us as the storm starts to decay as it moves inland and we're gown to talk more about that coming up in just a bit. but more about today. it's still a dry day for us this afternoon. we're talking about sunny skies and you can see that behind med over the beautiful bay bridge. 70s and 60s for the daytime highs from oakland into san francisco. we're seeing that sun now over the santa clara valley. where that little bit of a haze is starting to bleed off and be topping off in the 80s today near san jose. then 80s are quickly turning into 50s once the cold front moves in. luckily we start to warm up into next week with sunshine right around the corner and keep you updated with the rainfall totals. for now over to you, g. nicole. ♪ ♪

taking you live right now following up on the breaking news out of san joaquin county right there. and you are seeing first responders talking to reporters on the scene of a massive fire near tracy along grant line road. we have some video of that as well that we can throw in. and also these live images. and officials say at least two-thirds of the gma pallet recycling corporation yard is burning. there's that video. the call came in of this raging fire just before 2:00 a.m. and as a result, in the wake of the white hot flames that you see there, at least 19 area homes evacuated and keep in mind there's a school across the street from the fire and power lines also right there above the fire. we understand the school is closed and pg&e is also reporting that hundreds of customers in the area are in the dark. they're without power this morning because of the fire. to add to

the situation, there's no water supply in the area. you see water coming out of the houses but that is water that has been carted in because there's no immediate water supply right there. that makes the battle even more difficult. and with the rising sun, against the smoke as a backdrop there, that's just a huge breaking news story out of san joaquin county. and active story that pallets there on fire and people just standing around awe-struck at the power of the flames. we'll continue to update this story and its impacts on so many people this morning as we await to hear more. well, check in on the roadways if you are making the morning commute. we have a crash on southbound 680 and it's causing two lanes to be blocked over in pleasant hill. traffic is at a stop and go but seems to be moving at moderate speeds. we're seeing struggling spot for those trying to get on to the bay bridge. traffic is pretty thick from emeryville towards the metering lights. well, we can see it lighten up a bit as you drive into san francisco. southbound 880 has been a major
