11:19 pm
we are going to the mid-30s in the northbay. by friday morning. i want to start out on this busy image, it was shared today by the national weather service. a lot of fine print is on here, it is too much to try to cram in like this, where you are trying to pick out the details but i just wanted to see the picture. sent out a picture of pea-sized hail. over the next two days, probably one of our best opportunities to see thunderstorms that are able to produce small hail like that. from this particular system , so in addition to cold temperatures, it is the isolated thunderstorms that show up through thursday afternoon and evening, and then maybe even on friday, which might steal some of the headlines, here. we will take up that story in the forecast. at noon, tomorrow, as we looked at the thursday morning commute in the last visit. if you missed that it will rain, widespread, about 3/10 of an inch of rain from 5:00 a.m.. plan on wet roads for the morning commute. it is after
11:20 pm
that when we get into the morning afternoon, things get more interesting. right here, we will keep it from this point at 2:00 in the afternoon. you will see a center of rotation. it is subtle right there, but it comes right ever the day, that is the center of the storm the center of the area of low pressure coming right overhead. over the middle of these things that is usually where the instability is, the most energy to develop isolated thunderstorms, the kinds of cells that can deliver small hail, lightning, thunder, brief down pours. if you look at the map, one of these little cells developed, it will be for localized parts of the bay. most of us will not experience this, but we all equally have a 20% chance that it happens over your part of the bay tomorrow. watch what happens into the afternoon. not that it happened exactly of the santa cruz mountains at exactly 8:30
11:21 pm
tomorrow night, but watch that particular cell, because it is not just that you get a potential thunderstorm, there, is that ms. east and moves over matt hamilton, then you can see the snow show up so now, we are also talking about low elevation snow amma down to about 2500 feet. matt hamilton stands a chance to get a light dusting of snow in this scenario. and it makes sense, the most likely timeframe to see some snow developing over the mountains is when you get some particularly strong cells , because those are pulling down colder air from higher in the atmosphere. they are forcefully bringing it down to lower elevations and lower the cell level. it will be completed today tomorrow. more time when you're not getting rained on from thursday afternoon through friday, then when you are. but, when these isolated cells come through, you could get a brief little show, and that small hail is what you get through thunderstorms, and there is often confusion about what all the stuff is, because we don't get it all that much. just wanted you to see that picture from the national weather service and give you a heads
11:22 pm
up. this whole thing is taken into account. birthday tomorrow morning commute rain and the scattered showers, and you can see what it looks like, we pick up maybe half an inch of rain. where the potential is the thunder storms on thursday and friday. look at the cold air for this system. let's take a moment going back now, you can see how the cold air really does fill in over the bay. we will bring back the same numbers, this is not tomorrow morning. tomorrow morning will be warmer than this but still cold tomorrow morning, but the focus will be on the rain. i just wanted you to see the extreme cold numbers and we probably won't break records when we do this but i was checking record for santa rosa, you are going to 35 on friday. you have been colder than that for friday but a couple of degrees. 10 to 12 degrees
11:23 pm
below average, but we are not necessarily breaking records when we do this. the other item to discuss is on the other side of the state, after we get our light snow, here, perhaps on mt. hamilton, or in the northbay with the snow level down to 2500 feet, not bigger cumulation's, but it is a dusting of snow relatively low and you bet it will be snow in the sierra. snow level there down to 3000 feet, thursday and friday, we get about a foot of snow up on donner pass and that will slow down the drive, so just be aware, if you know anybody who has to travel in the sierra thursday or friday there will be chains and delays. in the seven day forecast, we know about our rain and daytime highs in the mid 50s but thankfully for the weekend, no rain. saturday and sunday you don't have to worry about it and look at what is coming next week. we are going to be back near 80 degrees by wednesday. matt, over to you. giants looking to avoid this week to the dodgers down in los angeles. giants fans might be feeling like these
