back in 2019. shawn chitnis spoke to heartbroken fans at the coliseum about the potential loss. >> baseball is my sport. and -- the a's are my team. >> reporter: joe has been a season ticket holder for more than 20 years. he's collected plenty of souvenirs and many more memories cheering on the a's. and he was still optimistic there would be a way to keep them in oakland. >> which gave me a lot of hope. gave me a lot of hope that they d he saw the news for himself. they were preparing to move the las vegas. >> for oakland i think it's going to be devastating you know. somewhat for the east bay in general, but definitely for oakland it's going to be huge impact. >> reporter: a sign to him the game has given into the needs of a business, more than anything else. >> sports should be more about the sport. not all about the money. >> reporter: brandon jones has been a fan all of his life and showed off some of the gear he's collected over the years. he says the heart dropped when he found out the a's were leaving. like losing a family member for him. >> it's a sad, it's upsetting.

it's -- abomination against the baseball gods. >> reporter: and veteran sports writer dave new house who just wrote a book about the teams leaving oakland says fans in the city have gone through more heartbreak than any other in the country. losing one sport after the other. >> i think oakland is a -- is a town unlike any other in terms of its passion for its teams, but that passion comes from the fans. it doesn't come from ownership. >> reporter: and for joe, who has plenty of gear that could go up in value now that the team is leaving. it's not much of a consolation for losing the a's. >> i would trade the value of all of it for the team to stay. >> heading into this weekend warm. thes are going to continue to be the trend. who's to thank for this? high pressure. off into the pacific ocean right now. we're seeing it really ridge its way into california. and that's going to continue to build as we head into next week. allowing for daytime highs to eventually hit the upper 80s in certain spots.

but let's first talk about the winds. they're coming from the north due to high pressure ridging its way in from the north. it's going to get a little bit gustier heading into the evening hours tonight. close to around 22-mile-per-hou r winds really at the max along the coast. just around that 3:00 hour, that will be the trend heading into the evening tonight. now heading into teening we're also warming up into the upper 70s already in our inland east bay as well as san jose. san jose's forecast is looking really nice today. this is great weather to get out there and get some fresh air and take the dogs to the dog park, throughout the bay area this afternoon, we're sitting well above average. but we're warming up even more than this. look at next week. the high pressure will continue to build and we're going to hit the upper 80s as early as next wednesday and 87 by thursday. for our inland east bay. well, now to the east bay where antioch police face new legal troubles in connection to the racist scandal. here's juliette goodrich on the just filed lawsuit against the city and its police department.

>> reporter: the suit is the latest development in a year-long civil rights investigation by the fbi and contra costa county da's office. their report found a series of racist and homophobic text messages exchanged by at least 45 officers. that's nearly half of the city's force. civil rights attorney john burris says one officer even bragged about beating up a suspect during an arrest. >> this conduct itself was so horrible that it was more than just locker room talk. it was a state of mind. and so for us, this was pervasive. and so many of the people that have been affected didn't even know that they were being treated this way. they didn't know that the conduct that they were being arrested for was improper. >> reporter: burris says black people in antioch probably shoue bee afra of the po than the in he says the texts purposely targeted the city's black seems to met the department is so fundamentally corrupted. >> reporter: investigators say

leadership roles. the suit was filed on behalf of five people who claim they or their family member were targeted in those texts. the suit seeks damages along with federal oversight and court monitoring of the department. >> my kids are sheltered. my kids -- my son has never been in a gang. they -- came and got my son 15 minutes before his bell rang at school. what gang member goes to school? >> well, just days ago the city council overwhelmingly approved three audits of the department. they include looking at its internal affairs process, equity practices and culture, and how it hires and promotes officers. now that this morning's other top stories. police arrested a man in connection to a racially charged egg at tdistct torney charging joseph benjamin with battery and violating people's civil rights. this happened pack in february. the woman who recorded the video says the man also shouted anti-asian slurs at her. the da says benjamin

was also involved in a separate incident on another muni bus. >> when you are on a bus in are closed quarter like that. to have somebody throwing eggs at you is very unnerving and unacceptable. >> he faces up to seven years in prison if convicted on all charges. now to the south bay where san jose police have arrested the director of a math tutoring center on suspicion of possessing and distributing child porn. 30-year-old joel noveno has been under investigation since last september. police say he was engaging in social media chat rooms and apps with young children and had been sharing pornographic photos. he ran the mattins yum after-school tutoring program in south san jose. and remember los gatos party mom shannon o'connor? she's due back in court today. she's accused of throwing parties with alcohol and nonconsensual sex for her son and s frs.'s

earlier. that now pushing down real estate prices and they have dropped on annual basis for two months in a row. and if you got on twitter recently, well, you likely noticed those verified blue check marks are gone. including mine too. oh well. accounts used to receive the icons through twitter's now gone verification process but now users must pay at least $8 a month for authentication. public figures that appear to have lost their blue check marks include pope francis, beyonce, and kim kardashian. well, tomorrow is earth day and the public is invited to san francisco's earth day festival at golden gate park running from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 9th avenue at the county fair building. that includes a street fair and entertainment and all geared to inspiring people to make more creative earth-friendly choices in their daily lives. >> we'll have speakers and music and a lot of vegan food. and take a walk in golden gate park and stop by. it's going to be right by arboretum which is

head into the afternoon hours today. this is around 3:00. that wind continues to stay consistent as we're dealing with high pressure building in from the pacific. what does that do for us? brings us higher temperatures and drier conditions and it's great as that sounds still allergy season. sitting in the medium to high category all throughout this weekend and even into next week. when it comes to tree l proen and just be careful just like myself i'm very sensitive to allergies during this season. so i always have that claritin handy and ready to go. now it's a beautiful weekend to get out there so don't use allergies as the excuse if you can't. santa rosa today alone, we're warming up into the upper 70s around that 2:00 hour. partly cloudy skies in the north bay and it will be a little bit more clear off in the inland east bay. even in san francisco this afternoon mild conditions into that 1:00 and 2:00 hour. we'll top off just at 68 degrees around 3:00. there's plenty to do here in the bay area heading into this weekend. but i want to just highlight one. the weather so nice not only for you, but the pups too. so if you want to take your pups out to dog fest,

in san francisco, that's happening torment. make sure you bundle up and dress warm though. it will be a little bit cool in those early morning hours. we warm up in the mid 60s luckily though with plenty of sunshine heading into the afternoon. now as we head into the next week, i have something interesting to show you. let's start off with our inland east bay. the biggest change we're going to see with temperatures in the inland east bay. just around wednesday and thursday of next week, we'll hit the upper 80s in the forecast. yeah. that's right. close to 90. can you believe that? for the rest of us it's a little bit more mild based on which microclimate you live in. take san francisco for example. this weekend is beautiful. mild. a little bit breezy on sunday. but once we head into next week, i'll take 70s any day of this week of this season of this year. now for the rest of us, all throughout the north bay and even into san jose, upper 70s and lower 80s this afternoon. that will be the trend into next week. glory of everything here -- everything is moving and sun is shining down today. and it's absolutely gorgeous. >> celebrating a rare superbloom ahead of earth day. we take a look at the spring

well, warriors were looking to even the playoff series with the sacramento kings on sunday and last night without draymond green, the fans were huge part and helping the team secure the victory last night as you can see in the video behind me. dub nation, they showed out and cheered on the warriors and andrea nakano was out there with them. >> reporter: ever since i stepped foot at oracle arena in oakland, and now chase center in san francisco, i feel extreme joy. and exuberance. like honestly. this is my happy place. >> reporter: to say sherry foster is a warriors on the is an understatement. she considers chase center her home away from home but check out her house. guests can stay in the warriors' themed bedroom and during the holidays, you can find life-sized cutout of steph curry in the walkout shower with other

in the nba. >> reporter: last season we were the underdogs. >> won the championship. nothing new y area, wearied to underdogs. warriors in six. that's all i have to say baby. warriors! >> reporter: the warriors are still down two games to one in the series. but fans say with the group on the floor, repeating as champs is not out of reach. >> back to the we believe era? like i believe. no one can tell me any different. >> well, let's get back to the a's departure. the news hit hard for nans and here at home but insiders in vegas are a little less shocked by that announcement. the proposed ballpark location in vegas, it's about a mile north from where the raiders now play. and just west of the las vegas strip. a former vegas reporter says well, it's all business. >> then there are the conventional things id you could say. sure it's a huge tourist draw. millions of people will come. the a's believer they're going to get thousands and thousands and thousands of visitors to come to that city just to see an a's

game. >> still, there's no doubt the a's have a great history in oakland. the team played their first game at the coliseum way back in 1968. after moving from kansas city. winning their championship in oakland four years later in '72. going on to win three titles in a row then in 1989, the a's squared off against the san francisco giants in the bay bridge series. that was famously interruptedly loma prieta. the a's president dave kaval came out to try and explain his decision. he says after decades of back and forth with the city, they reached their wits' end. >> we know this is a difficult day for our fans and it's a sad day. but by the same token. this has been a 25 year saga. we're at a point now where our current facility is ten years past its useful life. we need to find an alternative that works. and we have a path in las vegas that can put the franchise on solid footing.

well, if you have taken a drive along the hillsides you probably have seen little bits of color all these poppies up on the brown hillside. popping through the grass. a beautiful scene anywhere and one of the most beautiful times of the year in the bay area. our hills, they are alive with color. danya bacchus went out to see the rare superbloom of flowers and spoke to fans enjoying the spring phenomenon. >> reporter: from the hillsides of california to the deserts of

arizona, mother nature is putting on a show. >> the hills are completely painted with flowers. and i really love that. >> reporter: orange, yellow, and purple wildflowers. creating what's known as a superbloom. are blanketing fields and valleys. a sight so spectacular -- thousands are flocking to capture it. >> the glory of everything here. everything blooming and the sun is shining down today. and it's absolutely gorgeous. >> the record amount of rain and snow that pummeled california at the again of the year not only helped to ease the dire three year drought. also made conditions ripe for millions of dormant seeds. >> this is like once in a decade bloom that happened. and we're driving in here from san francisco to see this place. this is just -- wild. i mean it's just beautiful. >> reporter: the explosion of flowers is so vibrant, some areas can be seen from space. >> nature at its best. so you have to seize the moment while it's here. and go look at it. >> reporter: the last big bloom was 2019. that's when parks and trails in california and
