5:01 am
temperatures expected to be in the 90s. and they could stay there for days. the cleanup from that crushing storm that downed trees and destroyed homes and businesses is just getting started. we are going to have to talk about this disaster in weeks, not days. and they're not alone. millions in the southeast now facing the possibility of severe weather today, angie is tracking it all. brutal assault, newly released surveillance video shows what appears to be sean diddy combs attacking his then girlfriend at a california hotel in 2016, where the investigation into combs could go from here, orange to green scottie scheffler, the world's number one golfer, is arrested and thrown in jail just before the second round of the pga championship. i did spend some time stretching in a jail cell. that was a first for me. despite it all, scheffler shined on the greens near the top of the leaderboard this morning, remembering dabney coleman, the

5:03 am
ready. i think we all need just a little bit of levity this summer, and we're going to get a first taste this weekend, right? that's for sure. we're talking about gymnastics and among the weekend's biggest highlights, making history on the mats and the vault and the balance beams. we are in for a treat. for the first time ever, we're going to see three olympic all around gold medalists simone biles, suni lee, gabby douglas going head to head. they are all vying for prize spots on team usa at the paris olympic games. so much to look forward to there. but our top story this morning is, of course the weather. it's going to be hot. very hot today in houston, which is bad news for hundreds of thousands of residents. still without power after strong storms rolled through on thursday. we're going to get angie's forecast and forecast in just a minute. but first, nbc's priscilla thompson. she is in hard hit houston with the very latest there. priscilla, good morning. yeah peter laura good morning at this hour, there are still more than half a million people without power across texas and louisiana
5:04 am
, in large part due to these downed transmission towers that could take weeks to repair. now, overnight, president biden approved a disaster declaration as residents here in texas are once again cleaning up. this morning, cars crushed, homes caved in, businesses crumbled after a wave of vicious and deadly storms tore through louisiana and texas. i'm normally sitting right there, kathleen cox, who's battling cancer, was home when this tree came crashing in. i can't say that i'm perfect, but i'm okay. more than 100 mile per hour winds pounded houston. people seen here sheltering in a costco and running for cover as rain poured into minute maid park during the astros game in downtown houston. the ground is still covered with glass, just a fraction of what fell as the storm busted out. windows and skyscrapers like this. officials
5:05 am
say at least seven people were killed. horrible accident with a family tree fell. went right through the driver's compartment with children in the back. the torrential rain fueling dangerous floodwaters just north of the city as golf ball sized hail pummeled parts of west texas, the storm knocking out transmission towers. at one point, more than a million people left in the dark, prompting school shutdowns as hundreds of crews worked to clear roadways and restore power. we are going to have to talk about this disaster in weeks, not days. this latest round of severe weather, part of a weeks long bout of unrelenting rain and flooding across southeast texas. here we go, angie yarbrough's home has been flooded for nearly three weeks now, and as the water rises again, she's decided to leave for good. i've cried and cried and cried about it. it's. it's heartbreaking. so 48 years i've
5:06 am
been down here, but i can't. i can't fight it anymore. i can't, i can't do it now. officials say that it could be up to two weeks before everyone's power is restored. the city of houston today opening cooling centers as they're expecting temperatures to surge into the 90s, starting today. peter. laura, remember to check on your neighbors in that area. priscilla thompson in houston. priscilla. thank you. all right. let's bring in meteorologist andrew lassman. angie. unfortunately, the issue this weekend in houston is heat. while millions of people further in the east are in the path of more trouble. yeah, exactly. so no relief for folks in houston when it comes to the temperatures, but we've got to gear up for more strong storms here as we get into the later parts of today. here's those temperatures though. notice 90 for your actual temperature, but you add in the humidity. and we're talking mid 90s today. but by the time we roll into early next week, we could be nearing triple digits. if not triple digit. feels like temperatures for that area. so something to watch, especially as we continue to see those power outages lasting. here's the deal for severe threat notice. it's kind of expansive across parts of the
5:07 am
southeast for general thunderstorms, but where you see the slight risk where that brighter yellow tallahassee, gainesville up to savannah, we're looking at the chance for some strong wind gusts, maybe 60mph or so, and some damaging hail. that tornado risk is low today, but it's not zero, so it is still there slightly. we're already quite active this morning. we've got some rain across the mid-atlantic. those are just some showers that we're watching. we've also got some strong thunderstorms happening across the gulf coast. new orleans included in that. plenty of lightning as well as some heavy rain. and that's one of the things that we'll be concerned about in that area here as we get through the day today. notice the flood watches are already up from parts of the gulf coast, from louisiana, stretching into into georgia and florida. we've got mobile, new orleans under those flood watches with the heavy rain working through. and that is why we've got still the chance for some of this flash flooding to occur here as we get through, especially the morning hours today. that's when we'll likely see the heaviest rain across this region. notice the spot that we're really watching for the flash flooding stretching from mobile, pensacola, panama city, dothan all included in that here as we get through our day to day, likely seeing that

impacting folks for their saturday plans. big picture. look, we'll see anywhere from an inch to two inches of rain in some of the highest spots. guys, back to you. all right, angie, thank you for that. we'll check back in with you later. now to the very latest in the israel hamas war. the israeli military says it has recovered the bodies of three hostages taken by hamas during the october seventh terror attack, including a young woman who became a symbol of the horror inflicted on the people of israel that day. nbc's josh letterman is in london with the very latest, and the efforts in the humanitarian work to get aid into gaza. josh, what are we learning? well, peter, good morning. those three israeli hostages were all captured during the october 7th hamas attacks, fleeing that nova music festival in southern gaza. they are 28 year old amit buskila, 57 year old itzhak gertner and 23 year old shani luke. now, luke had already been declared dead by israel and a photo of her mutilated body in the back of a pickup had really become one of the iconic, horrifying images of those attacks. and this is
5:09 am
really only dampening further hopes that any more of those hostages believed to still be in gaza may come home alive. but on the humanitarian front, there is a rare bit of positive news as aid has started to arrive in gaza using a new floating pier built by the us military. now the white house says the first pallets of food and tents were handed over to the un, and the pentagon is hoping to be able to bring in about 90 trucks a day through this new sea route and ultimately increase it to about 150. but really, this is a drop in the bucket when you think about the enormous need there. and it's also not without danger for us troops who are part of that operation, the white house saying it has a robust plan to keep those americans safe. and with the un now warning of potential famine in gaza, egypt is blaming israel for crippling aid efforts. but just this morning, an israeli military spokesman says it is hamas that is stopping israel from sending more aid into gaza and blocking those humanitarian efforts. peter, just such a tough situation on all sides. josh lederman with the very latest. josh, thank you. back here at

home to the race for the white house. now, as both president biden and former president trump make a series of public appearances this weekend, nbc's aaron gilchrist is traveling with the president. he is in atlanta this morning. aaron, good morning. hey, laura, good morning to you. you're right. both candidates on the campaign trail this weekend. today, as a matter of fact, president biden here in georgia, former president trump in texas for the nra convention. but on his day off from court on friday, mr. trump, attending his son barron's high school graduation down in florida that before flying to minnesota for the annual lincoln-reagan dinner in a state that team trump believes can be in play, even falsely claiming he won in 2020. despite losing there, just like every other republican presidential candidate since 1972. mr. trump suggesting a new rule for the upcoming debates with president biden. i just want to debate this guy, but, you know, and i'm going to i'm going to demand a drug test, too, by the way, i am no, i really am my predecessor.
5:11 am
in his extreme, maga friends are now going after diversity, equity and inclusion all across america. they want a country for some, not for all. let's not kid ourselves, president biden, they're blasting trump during remarks celebrating the 70th anniversary of the brown v board of education supreme court decision that ended school segregation. now, between thursday and sunday, biden participating in seven events focused directly on black communities and shoring up the black vote here in atlanta. tomorrow, he'll give the commencement address at morehouse college. we saw a small group of protesters staging a die in and march here friday, calling president biden genocide joe and demanding a cease fire in gaza. the college president says he will end the graduation if things get out of hand at the ceremony tomorrow. people i've spoken to, both here and at the white house say that students making any sort of statement they expect will be peaceful, and then the president
5:12 am
will end his weekend in detroit at the naacp fundraising dinner. there laura aaron gilchrist in atlanta. thank you, my friend. now to a controversy at the court. supreme court justice samuel alito is facing calls to recuse himself from cases related to the january 6th attack and the 2020 election. this comes after the new york times published a photo outside alito's home of an upside down american flag that's widely viewed as a symbol of efforts to overturn the last election. nbc's julie sirkin is here with us in new york this morning. julie, good morning. peter. good morning. another blow for the conservative supreme court justices this morning as alito faces criticism and those calls to step aside this morning, top democrats demanding supreme court justice samuel alito recuse himself from cases related to january sixth. after the new york times published this photo showing an american flag flying upside down at his home. the picture, reportedly taken just over a week from the capitol attack and just days
5:13 am
before president biden's inauguration. an upside down flag meant to signal distress and has been used as a sign of protest by both the left and the right. but some of alito's neighbors telling the times they were alarmed because it was the symbol adopted by some trump supporters during the capitol riot, falsely claiming president biden stole the election. alito, confirming the photo, telling the times, quote, i had no involvement whatsoever in the flying of the flag. it was briefly placed by mrs. alito in response to a neighbor's use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs, according to the times. a neighbor said the flag was there for several days and that alito's wife, martha ann, was in a dispute with another homeowner who, quote, displayed an anti-trump sign with an expletive which offended martha and alito, leading to an escalating clash between her and that neighbor. friday democratic senator dick durbin, saying the flag creates the appearance of bias, demanding justice alito recused himself from upcoming cases involving january 6th,
5:14 am
including former president trump's presidential immunity case, where he's accused of trying to overturn the 2020 election results. he is, you know, more than willing to wear his partizan colors on his sleeve or in this case, on the flagpole. a court spokesperson did not respond to our request for comment. this isn't the first time that concerns have been raised about justices impartiality and that of their spouses, as well. yeah, that's exactly right, peter ginni thomas, clarence thomas's wife, of course, is a longtime conservative activist who came under scrutiny for sending those text messages to then president trump's chief of staff, mark meadows. she urged him not to concede the election. she also attended the january 6th rally, but didn't march on the capitol. like justice alito, clarence thomas faced calls to recuse himself from any cases that are related to the former president and the election, but so far, neither has given any indication they would do so. laura, peter, julie, appreciate the update. thank you very much. so nice to have you on set here. julie,

good to see you. all right. now to this the world's number one golfer scottie scheffler is back on the course later today hoping to win his second major championship of the year. but this has not been any normal golf tournament for him. on friday morning he was arrested on his way to the course and had to get ready to play while he was locked up in a jail cell. nbc's jesse kirsch is in louisville, kentucky, outside the golf club with more jesse. this is a wild tale. yeah, absolutely, laura. and it is far from over at this point. it seems scottie scheffler isn't just playing in this tournament, he's playing well. he finished his second round in the pga championship five under after having been arrested on this road, which leads to valhalla golf club, where the championship is going on. there are conflicting stories as to what actually happened out here yesterday and so far there's been no resolution either. this morning, men's golf star scottie scheffler is in the hunt at the pga championship, just three strokes off the lead in louisville, kentucky. that may
5:16 am
not seem surprising for the world number one golfer, but this is no ordinary tournament weekend. i did spend some time stretching in a jail cell. that was the first for me, guys. the 27 year old was arrested early friday morning on his way to valhalla golf club. the moments apparently captured on camera by espn. right now, he's going to jail. i was never, you know, angry. i was just in shock. and i think my body was just i was shaking the whole time. according to an incident report, a uniformed police detective was directing traffic because of an earlier deadly collision and stopped scheffler, who allegedly refused to comply with the detective's instructions, accelerated forward and dragged the detective who was taken to the hospital with pain, swelling and abrasions. scheffler's attorney says the golfer was given conflicting directions. he did not drag any officer or assault an officer with his vehicle or anything to that effect. police say they're investigating, adding scheffler is fully cooperating as he faces
5:17 am
four charges, including second degree assault of a police officer. the pga star says this was a big misunderstanding. my situation will get handled. it was a chaotic situation and a big, big misunderstanding. just hours after the shocking arrest, scheffler was out of jail. and on the tee, scottie fans cheering on the newly crowned masters champion who played as if nothing had happened, expressing thanks for the fans and law enforcement. i'm grateful that we have, you know, such strong police and you know there are protectors out there. schefflers attorney says that eyewitness accounts as well as video exonerate the golfer, but the attorney would not share that video with us. scheffler is expected in court for an arraignment on tuesday morning. his attorney tells us he will plead not guilty. peter all right. jesse kirsch in louisville, thank you so much.
5:18 am

5:19 am

5:34 am
giving her a black eye. it goes on to describe how he followed her into the hallway, grabbed at her, took glass faces in the hallway and threw them at her, causing glass to crash around them as she ran to the elevator to escape. the complaint also alleges combs paid the hotel $50,000 for the hallway security footage from that evening. in a statement to nbc news, intercontinental's parent company said this hotel is no longer under ihg management and we do not have any access to prior incident records or footage, adding it did not receive money for the footage, so far, there's no indication from law enforcement officials that any criminal complaint was filed by ventura. this video could create huge problems for diddy, especially with people who may be thinking about bringing allegations against diddy but haven't done so yet. ventura declined to comment on the footage friday, but her attorney released a statement saying. the gut wrenching video

has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of mr. combs. ventura and combs settled the lawsuit earlier this year for an undisclosed amount of money. at the time, combs team released a statement saying we have decided to resolve this matter amicably. i wish cassie and her family all the best. combs did not respond to nbc news request for comment friday, but in the past has repeatedly denied committing acts of domestic violence. this comes as the music mogul faces multiple civil lawsuits, with allegations including abuse and sexual assault spanning decades. in march, federal agents raided his properties in los angeles and miami. if federal authorities are investigating diddy for human trafficking violations, this video could be very interesting evidence to them. laura, peter and joe, the response to this video has been overwhelmingly supportive for cassandra ventura, and the fallout continues for sean diddy combs, and it will be interesting to see what will happen with this federal investigation. chloe, thank you
5:36 am
for that. look, i haven't checked the statute of limitations in california recently, but watching that video you have to believe that law enforcement is taking a close look at it. we're going to see what happens. all right. just terrible scenes there. we want to turn to the weather, change topics. if we can briefly get a look at the forecast as we head into this weekend. angie joins us now. hi there guys. good morning to you. we've got heat no surprise. and it's across parts of florida. the sunshine state going to see heat advisories lasting through at least 8 p.m. so this goes through this evening. it goes from the space coast all the way down to monroe county, key west miami, naples, melbourne, all included in this as our temperatures gear up to hit the 90s. today, you see tampa headed to 92 degrees. what'll feel like 101 there? we've got 105 for the heat index value in port saint lucie, miami and key west 107 and 108 for what it feels like there. this afternoon. so find your cool spot. it's going to be something you'll have to do for the next couple of days. we get into the weekend across this region a little better, i suppose, if you count the upper 80s as being an improvement. but
5:37 am
still into the low 90s for miami both sunday and monday, we'll hang on to the 90s in key west sunday as well, so the heat will stick with us. the preakness though, if you're looking ahead to that in baltimore, great conditions, maybe a couple of showers. it'll be on the cool side, but hopefully we'll get that race in just fine. let's look at the weather across the country. let's see what's happening in your neighborhood. good morning. it's 536 on this saturday. we are starting off with temperatures in the low 50s. north bay 51, santa rosa 53. in napa as we go on into oakland, 56 and 57 down here in san jose, there are some patchy clouds hanging around the most of the bay area and as we go on into taking our planner out into the coast side, it will stick around near the lunch time and temperatures struggling to warm up into those upper 50s later on today. and that's a look at your forecast, guys. angie. thank you very much. and still ahead right here, some big stories in the world of health this week. from a new drug to help treat menopause symptoms for women, to why you may be getting more frequent migraines, but first,

5:41 am
americans turn to nbc news than any other news organization. we are back this saturday morning with our series your health as we round up some of the top medical stories this week that you might have missed. we are covering everything from a new drug to help women going through menopause, to one reason why you may be getting more or worsening migraine signs. doctor natalie azar is here. our nbc medical contributor, doctor azar, always nice to have you with us on a saturday. tell us about the new menopause symptom treatment non-hormonal. it's non-hormonal. right. and i think it's really interesting because it actually comes on the heels of a couple of weeks ago that we were reporting that perhaps more women under the age of 60 could actually be candidates for hormone replacement therapy. but but not all women are candidates for that. it's not appropriate for everybody. and so we need what we are calling nonhormonal treatment for the most bothersome menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes and sleep disturbances and mood issues.
5:42 am
and so this is a medicine that's interesting. it works on two different parts of the brain, one that's responsible for temperature regulation, on another that's responsible for mood and sleep. and when they gave these women this medication as opposed to placebo, they found significant improvements in all of those particular parameters. and also interesting to note that there was a very similar medicine approved about a year ago that has a similar mechanism of action. so more tools in the toolbox for women who are experiencing menopause symptoms always welcome news. and what about the insurance coverage on that? that's going to be the big the big issue. so the currently available medicine as a ticket price of about $550 per month, bayer hasn't set a price for this one yet, laura. but, you know, we hope that insurance companies will cover it. there's no guarantee it could be cost prohibitive for a lot of people. we need to have these prices lowered a lot of millions of women could potentially benefit from this medicine. let's talk about migraines. for some people who get them, they're becoming more frequent and more intense. and one study is shining some light on why this could be right. yeah. so, you know, i think like a lot of things in medicine,
5:43 am
it's multifactorial. but experts are pointing to climate change as a big factor here. they're saying that with the erratic temperatures, temperature extremes, really hot, really cold hurricanes, changes in barometric pressure, that thought all has been influencing migraine severity, not only severity but frequency in migraine sufferers. sufferers. there is this thing called the migraine disability index. and they found that between 2000 and 4 and 2018 look at that. the index severity doubled. and this is a survey essentially that that is an assessment of migraine severity. so you can imagine if you're sitting at home you might be thinking, gosh, you know my migraines do feel worse. or they do feel more frequent. it's a big deal. yeah. there's nothing more punishing than a bad migraine. absolutely. it's the worst. right. i want to ask you about there's a new test right now for hpv in women. so this is really important right now. as we know hpv certain strains of hpv are responsible for over 90% of cervical cancers. currently the way women get screened for hpv is when they're in the gynecologist's
5:44 am
office and getting a pelvic exam at the same time, they're getting a pap smear to screen for cervical cancer. so the fda recently has expanded approval for a test that a woman can perform on herself. a vaginal swab in a doctor's office, in a pharmacy, even potentially in a primary care office. similarly to the way you would go in and perhaps give a urine sample. the idea here is that we are going to capture many, many more women who may not have regular reproductive health care, who may feel uncomfortable going to the gyn's office. they can collect these samples by themselves. and again, hpv, such a preventable cause for cervical cancer for women in this country. exactly. yeah. doctor azzi thank you. appreciate you. thank you so much. joe. what have you got on pop star. still to come the new kids on the block are back. we're going to give you a listen to their newest album. after these messages. it's crazy how you love me. just imagine scout is protected by simparica trio and

back with pop start here. joe, what do you got a lot to cover? first up, mega plus, a new sci fi film by francis ford coppola that is generating some fascinating reactions. let's preface this by acknowledging coppola is a legend, making some of the greatest movies ever, like the godfather. so, to quote michael corleone, it's not personal. it's strictly business. here's the deal an age 85, coppola just debuted megalopolis, his ambitious passion project at cannes. it stars adam driver, aubrey plaza and many others. coppola himself has described it as a roman epic set in modern america. well, here's how critics are describing it from the guardian. mega bloated and mega boring the times of london called it a head wrecking abomination, but here's the thing it's sparking a lot of head wrecking debate. take critic jessica kiang, who called it a folly of such gargantuan proportions. it's like observing
5:49 am
the actual fall of rome, but then later she added, i liked maybe even a little loved megalopolis, so it's generating a lot of emotions you want to judge for yourself. imax does plan to put it on the mega screen, though it's not yet clear when, so i guess i need to see it now. i'm curious. i want to see the reviews have got the juices going. yeah, no press is bad press, right? there you go. look at it that way i like that. all right, next up, something you know. well, new kids on the block. yes, they are all in their 50s now. you feel old, but they just released a new album called still kids, and with it, a fan video for their new song, magic. take a look. it's like magic. magic when you touch me. gotta have it. it's crazy how you love me. just imagine you are. we're children again. in case you didn't know, fans of nkotb are called blockheads. that's a term of endearment. this is their first studio album in more than a decade. it has 14

she is the hot shot in our family. got to have dinner with back when i was here in new york yesterday. she is just such a difference maker and has such a perspective on life that's so important. we're focused on finding a cure, but i think there's a message a lot of people will benefit today from 100. all right. let's get to today's news. a pretty dire scene in texas where houston residents are still cleaning up after that powerful and deadly storm. thursday night, of course, left businesses and homes destroyed and sent trees toppling to the ground. the power is still out to more than a half a million people, which could make for a dangerous situation over the next few days, with temperatures expected to be in the 90s. angie has been tracking it all for us. angie, how is it looking right now? yeah, not like we have any relief over at least the next couple of days for folks there, as they continue to deal with those power outages. temperatures expected to hit the 90s today through at least tuesday. notice where actual temperatures are. but you add in, of course, that humidity. and we've got mid 90s for what it will feel like there today as we get into early next week. both monday and tuesday were

near or at 100 for what it feels like, so finding somewhere where you can cool down is going to be important for folks in that area. meanwhile severe weather no surprise it's spring after all. we've got the chance for that to occur here as we get into the afternoon hours across parts of the southeast, specifically florida, and a good chunk of georgia stretching into alabama as well. but wind gusts coming in around 60mph is going to be the greatest chance that we'll have for some of this. these stronger storms and the impacts there. but we'll also see the potential for some hail and maybe an isolated tornado. we've got rain already this morning. we're waking up to wet conditions for the mid-atlantic. we've also got some of those thunderstorms happening across the gulf coast, new orleans stretching east into the panhandle of florida. that's where we're going to see those flood watches already up with the heavy rain on tap through the day today. if you're wondering when this will be out of here, well, not until we get really into day after tomorrow. we'll still see the severe storms with us here as we get through today, and then it'll finally get some drier conditions across that region as we get into late sunday. guys, back to you. all right, angie, thank you. we will get the rest of the forecast for the rest of

saturday morning with our olympic countdown and the road to paris is getting shorter. i can't even believe it's close to the summer of 2024, right? not even ten weeks to go until the start of the paris games. this weekend, the gymnasts will be taking center stage, including three all around gold medalists. this has never happened before simone biles, suni lee and gabby douglas. it's going to be so good, all hoping to punch their ticket to paris. nbc's adrian broadus has the story. adrienne good morning. hey good morning guys. you know when these women step on the mat, the world watches. and that's no exception. today where the stakes are even higher because it's an olympic year as three olympic gold medalists from three eras all chasing gold again. but i don't know, it's looking pretty golden for this girl right here together. they're a force. but for the first time in history, three olympic all around champions will compete against each other later today at the core
6:11 am
hydration classic. this has never been done before, and a lot of it has to do with our gymnastics longevity. they all hope to land one of the five open spots on team usa for the women's gymnastics in paris. suni lee won gold in tokyo four years ago. her career was halted due to kidney disease, but it hasn't stopped her determination. i think this time is more about proving it to myself. i've had to deal with so much the past like three years and it's a gabby gold. gabby douglas also has something to prove. the first u.s. gymnast to win gold in all around and team competitions is vying to be back on the olympic team for the first time in eight years. her return was dicey. i have to give myself a little bit of grace because it's been so long. if we want to see her at the games this year, this is the competition where everything begins. simone biles, when simone biles steps on the mat, she does what others can't. last year, the 27 year old won her
6:12 am
sixth world all around title. five gymnastics skills bear her last name biles pulled out of the 2020 games when she got the twisties, losing track of her location in the air during flips . but based on this conversation with hoda, her confidence is back. how secure would my bet be if i were betting on you going to paris? i think you'd be pretty lucky. hoda the three gold medalists aren't the only stars competing in the gymnastics galaxy. this will be the first meet of 2024 for six time world medalist shilese jones, defending olympian floor champion jade carey, tokyo silver medalist jordan chiles and two time world medalist skye blakely all ready to soar higher with their sights on making the olympic team. and the longevity is something that we haven't seen, it seems almost everyone competing has said age is nothing but a number and it doesn't impact them. age, that is. so. we are now just a few
6:13 am
hours away from seeing how these athletes perform. guys. all right, adrian, thank you so much. there's just so much talent. it's just the names. you just keep reading them and reading them. it's unreal. yeah but this is such a good tease for the olympics, right? don't you just, like, aren't you so excited for the summer olympic trials? right. that's like the build up. but this feels like the crescendo, right? exactly. we're still got several months to go. you can catch, of course, the action at the core. hydration, gymnastics classic on cnbc and peacock. coverage starts tonight at 7:00 eastern. all right. it's time for one more check of the rest of the countries forecast. angie. high rain. yes, of course. rain. and, you know, it's spring. so strong storms too. and this is going to be a look ahead. so preparing you for the rest of the weekend and into your workweek here's sunday. so tomorrow afternoon into the evening hours we've got kind of the bull's eye for severe weather centered across parts of kansas. but the plains, of course, no surprise there. we've got wind gusts, hail, and the potential for a couple of tornadoes on the docket for your sunday plans in that region. and again, as we get into your monday rolling back into your workweek, this is the area that
6:14 am
you're going to watch centered across omaha, stretching down towards wichita. and of course, including kansas city. all three of those impacts are going to be on the table as well. and this will include 6 million people. but looking ahead to tuesday, an even bigger area and centered across the great lakes, stretching down into the plains, we've got 38 million people already at risk for the severe weather kansas city, des moines, saint louis and chicago all included in this, with all impacts possible. as a look at the weather across the country. let's see what's happening in your neighborhood. another may gray start to our saturday san francisco chilly 53 degrees, and we go up into the north bay. also looking at those low clouds hanging around 51 for you. there and down through the south bay. a few of those clouds are sticking around a bit of that clearing we can see out into the foothills. how about we go to antioch? it is the second to last day of the county fair there, and we're going to be bright and sunny. temperatures warm at times. so remember to drink a lot of water and wear that sunscreen. temperatures by 3:00 in the 80s. that is a look at your forecast guys. andrew lassman, thank you very much. still ahead right here a story

6:18 am
going to look like, but for rebecca, it's yet more uncertain . how do you live in that constant state of uncertainty? it's a fragile place to live. it's a humble place to live. it's. there's tremendous vulnerability. rebecca has a rare disorder called usher syndrome, the leading genetic cause of deaf blindness. that means she's losing her vision and hearing. when your cochlear implants are off, you hear what? nothing silence the silence and this is all she can see. just ten degrees of vision. like looking through a straw. and it's shrinking. what do you see right now? i see my hands out here in this outermost periphery, and then i can't see them. i can't see them. i can't see them. i see them still. rebecca is not defined by her disability. instead of trying to overcome the adversity and fear, she's learned to embrace it. i allow myself to feel all of the loss, all of the grief, and it's only in allowing myself to feel the full range of my emotions that i'm able to feel all of the joy and all of the happiness and
6:19 am
all of the sense of meaning that comes with everything, that being alive is. hi everyone. rebecca's ambitious and playful, a burst of energy with an enormous heart. she's a psychotherapist, published author, motivational speaker, and a world traveler. climbing kilimanjaro, running with the olympic torch, doing the pacific coast aidsride and swimming from alcatraz. an extreme athlete who works out six times a week. i can't control the fact that i'm going deaf and blind, but i can control how i take care of my body. rebecca has become a disability rights advocate, first narrating a pbs documentary on helen keller. she was such a trailblazer and more recently, introducing viewers to what's called pro tactile, a language created by the deaf blind community based solely on touch. today i will be learning a whole new language all the people i will be interviewing are deaf, blind. it's a novel language, but incredibly sophisticated. so if i'm
6:20 am
signing, i want you to be able to, feel what my hands are doing. rebecca is still learning. she put her hand to my face to let me know a smile. so i just went like that slow smile. yeah, i love that. yeah, i love you. her latest accomplishment, the culmination of a two year effort to draw attention to the disorder, working with the usher syndrome society, a larger than life campaign featuring rebecca called every second counts. i have usher syndrome, a rare condition that's causing me to lose all of my vision and hearing any second. here we go, there we go, here we go. recently premiering on some of new york city's giant screens, a times square takeover. what do you think? oh my god, this is amazing. how do you even describe that experience of seeing it up there? i think that when you grow up and you don't have role models to be able to
6:21 am
become a role model for people that you needed, it almost feels like you're healing, like you're inner child. that is unbelievable. i'm so proud of you. i can't believe we did it. and you did it. thank you. it's okay. congratulations i love you. that's so amazing, so that's my sister peter. yeah. she is so one of a kind. i'm just so proud of her. i hope that that story doesn't just inspire people, but motivates people to be kind, to make a difference if they're interested. to learn more, you can go to today.com to give as we try to find treatments and a cure, right? that's the only thing that stands between us and her and us stopping her vision from disappear altogether. one of the things you have said before about your sister is that she's not fighting this. she's not battling this, she's living with it. and i think that that peace. so captures her spirit well. the idea of every second counts, right, is that there's just no time to waste. and that's the way she lives. her
6:22 am
life. you think about all the things we complain about me as much as anybody, and it's just all nonsense when you consider how she is able to sort of deal with her situation and find joy, and also mourn the loss that she has to deal with as well, she is. yeah, i don't know. i honestly, i'm in the business of using words to describe things, right. but i'm without words when i talk about her. she's just so special. the part that sticks with me is she's the role model that she didn't have. that truly is what she is. she is a role model and her perspective can be applied to so many people. no matter what you're struggling with. that's inspiring. as she says, for anybody out there with something, you are not alone. everybody these days is dealing with something. thanks for letting me share her story. we're going to be right back. i have moderate to severe crohn's disease. now. there's skyrizi. things are looking up. i've got symptom relief, control of my crohn's means everything to me. control is everything to me. feel significant symptom relief
