going to have some milder weather for today. and our temperatures are starting out in the upper 40s and low 50s as you head out the door and then taking a live look at oakland, where we are seeing a mostly clear morning. it's going to be a beautiful day with our high temperatures headed for the upper 60s and low 70s here, a light wind, and we're still enjoying some very seasonable weather as our high temperatures in the south bay are headed for the low 70s, we'll see a high of 75 in concord and also mid 70s for much of the north bay. tomorrow we start to see those numbers coming up. it's going to be warm during the afternoon, with some low 80s in the east bay, as well as the north bay. i'll be tracking that warm up. we'll talk about the peak of those temperatures coming up in a few minutes. and mike, you were hearing about a traffic break. yeah, a benicia bridge. so 680 southbound. there was a quick traffic break called. i think it's starting to move once again, some sort of issue of debris or perhaps a small crash being cleared from the benicia bridge span. so that's unusual

6:09 am
in the central u.s. so as we take a look at some of the damage that we saw across the country, there was at least one person confirmed dead after a tornado touched down in oklahoma . and so we are still watching out for that as it happened in the northeast, in northern part of oklahoma. and you can see the overnight damage of that as well. and we know that overnight tornadoes can be particularly deadly and damaging because a lot of people are sleeping and don't get that heads up. and there were multiple people hurt by that storm. and it is unclear at this morning exactly how many. but i'm sure once the sun rises, they'll be able to assess that damage. and this holiday inn hotel suffered extensive damage after the storm blew into bartlesville, also in northern oklahoma, there were numerous reports of damage to structures, roofs, fences, downed power lines throughout the area, and there were thousands of people who still remain without power. and then there were two tornadoes that may have touched down in middle tennessee

yesterday. several homes were damaged after one of the twisters hit the small city of smithville, about two hours west of knoxville. another tornado touched down in lebanon, about 25 miles east of nashville, and the national weather service will survey the area to make a final determination about the strength of those tornadoes. so we will still be monitoring for that as the severe weather threat continues in those areas. and this is all a part of the same storm system that we had here in the bay area on saturday. and now that that has moved off to the east, it's causing a major severe weather outbreak that we will possibly see continued for today. and we're seeing high pressure building that causes much more quiet conditions. and we're also going to see our temperatures warming up over the next few days. we are starting out clear and also chilly this morning in the north bay. as you're heading to work, we're only in the upper 40s at 7:00. at 9:00 we're at 56 degrees. and then seeing the trend of those temperatures
6:11 am
headed to the upper 60s, and we'll see a few low 70s for the inland east bay, the south bay, up to 73 degrees and 75 for santa rosa. san francisco will be in the mid 60s, but tomorrow we start to see those temperatures coming up even more, and we'll talk about when we see the peak of these temperatures and where we could see highs near 90 degrees coming up in a few minutes. mike's been looking at some lower numbers on your graphics. yeah, it looks like the summer blend might be more plentiful out in the marketplace, because i do see those prices coming down a little bit. but fremont fliers on osgood is still holds the same low for the entire bay. 430 for the larkspur location of marin gas has marin county's low 479 and this is on magnolia avenue. then morgan hill has gas in shop on condit with their low of 499. that's condit. that's actually done in 101 is the closest intersection. you might recognize there. thanks for reporting and also for checking gasbuddy.com sharing with everybody on the roadways. we are still following some slowing. south bay, of course,

6:20 am
the sun just trying to peek out from under the clouds in san jose. and we are going to increasingly see more sunshine going into late morning, as well as the afternoon after the rain we had this weekend. let's check in on our water year. santa rosa is at a surplus of over four inches of rainfall, while we're still lacking in parts of the east bay like oakland and concord, with a pretty big rainfall deficit in concord, while san francisco is getting the opposite of that of over three inches in a surplus. and in san jose, we've had over 17in of rain since october 1st. so looking at the dry conditions and the mild temperatures that we are going to see today in hayward, 71 and 75, in fairfield, as well as martinez. but then tomorrow those temperatures start to go up and will be in the low 80s for parts of the east bay. while most of us are still in the 70s and then checking out thursday, 86 degrees in santa rosa and 87 for the interior east bay up toward fairfield, while morgan hill will see a high of 83 degrees.
6:21 am
so still pretty warm as that high pressure builds. that's going to give us more of the sunny skies and above normal temperatures. but with its clockwise wind flow, it also shifts our winds and we'll see much more of a northerly wind into the weekend, which, as we know during the fire season, that gives us those really dry and windy conditions. so we're looking at our highs in the upper 80s throughout the weekend for spots like napa and there's only a slight cooldown early next week before those temperatures bounce right back up. so we're going to continue to see warm weather for quite a while, even into your mother's day. as you're making plans to get outside. some of our valleys will be in the mid to upper 80s and san francisco. we'll see temperatures in the upper 70s there, with the peak of those highs on thursday, and then just enough of an ocean breeze to bring down those temperatures for mother's day. mike, you're tracking something in san jose. yeah, we saw a lot of i saw a lot of slowing here as folks traveling north one on one, approaching the 85 split report

department has issued a travel advisory asking people to reconsider visiting baja california because of safety concerns. 644 now and this week is wildfire awareness week, and it comes as california and much of the west are dealing with more challenging wildfire seasons amid intensifying climate impacts. let's take a look at some of these numbers here. and you can see last year in several north bay counties, about 676 acres burned compared to more than 2600 the year before. cal fire is working to make progress on fuel reduction and fuel mitigation. joining us now is jason clay. public information for the sonoma lake lake and napa county region. thanks so much for joining us. i know it's early, can you talk about the preparations that cal fire is making right now ahead of wildfire season, which our meteorologist says is still, you know, a little wild out? yeah, well, at this time of year,

we're really ramping up, our efforts to be ready for fire activity. and so that starts with the rehiring of firefighters, bringing them back on board to staff our engines, we have recently seen the return of some of our aerial fleet to the air bases across the state and here in the bay area this week, we have some of our hand crews preparing in readiness exercises. and we also have defensible space inspectors that are out meeting with homeowners across the state to help prepare them and their properties for the threat of wildfire. all right. so you're getting some of your equipment back, but do you have any new equipment or new technology that might help this year? yeah, on a couple different fronts, one exciting aspect when we talk about technology and the investments we've made in technology, highlights our partnership with the alert california system and uc san diego. and so we've incorporated some, ai technology into the wildfire detection. and we've already seen a little bit of returns on that. we've had

some wildfires that the artificial intelligence has detected. and alerted our dispatchers before that first 911 call has come. and then another exciting aspect we talk, often about our aviation program will be having seven c-130s that were working on coming on board to join our, aviation fleet, and that helps bolster our forces. it gives us a chance to get to those fires quickly, before the boots on the ground can get to them and put the fires out. all right, now, i heard you moment say that your inspectors are out and about. you know, we talk about defensible space. and i'm glad to hear that you all are reminding people in person. but what else can homeowners do, they can educate themselves. they could get ready, with their neighborhood. maybe they could help an elderly neighbor to do that important defensible space work. it's also very important that you do some pre-planning, you know, wildfire can strike at

any time, and you don't want to be caught off guard. so are you having your go bag ready, do you have that plan for your family of where you're going to evacuate to, do you have are you ready to receive that information? you know, the alert notices. are you signing up through your county to receive those emergency alerts? so, as we talk about it being wildfire preparedness week, and we're up touring down, touring across the state to raise that alertness. now is the time to do that important work, because we all share the responsibilities to keep us safe. oh, absolutely. and so just with some preparedness, we can be ready because we don't know when they will strike. so thank you very much, jason clay, for joining us from the north bay. and don't forget it is wildfire preparedness week. so make sure you get ready. thanks a lot for that chris. moving on now bay area sports fans cannot wait to see a bay area first, when the region's two biggest teams face off tonight in a game that actually matters, the san jose earthquakes will host the
