>> when you see count three, that suggested this was a law enforcement thing early on in the investigation. >> legal analyst david clark says this was either a sting or their was initially a 13-year- old in the conversation before police got involved. fulsome police and the sacramento county da are not releasing much information. court docs accuse parker of sending illicit pictures with the intent to engage in sexual intercourse with the minor. >> is sad these kind of things are still happening. >> reporter: anna gonzales is the supervisor of sexual assault in community solutions. >> it's a good time to talk to our community about these types of things that could happen, talk to or use and make sure we create awareness. >> reporter: the san jose fire department referred a question to the city manager. in a statement the city said this individual is no longer employed by the city. the arrest occurred in sacramento county. the city is unable to disclose more information at this time

as the investigation is ongoing. >> these investigation are designed to stop the sexual assault before it happens. >> reporter: san jose county tell me they are conducting their own investigation into parker. clark says in cases like these please review all devices the defendant had access to including work computers to see if there may be more evidence or more victims. >> we entrust the fire department with being in our homes, with being around our kids. and i think that makes this especially concerning for a prosecutor to send a message that this is a position of trust. >> reporter: in the telephone conversation, parker's lawyer told me spencer parker will not be making a statement. in san jose, damian trujillo, nbc bay area news. a top story today, where you caught up in the traffic mess? this is part of our breaking news coverage for hours throughout the day. protesters shutting down the golden gate ridge in two sections of 880.

it started around 8 a.m., protesters drove onto the iconic bridge and blocked traffic, chaining themselves to each other and two cars. they say this was an effort to halt economic activity across our region. and it comes on tax day, in protest of u.s. tax dollars going towards israel and the war in gaza. the protest extended to the east bay. three locations, you can see one, two, and three, completely halting traffic at two oakland locations, northbound 880 and fifth avenue and south bound 880 at the seventh street on- ramp. these demonstrations were part of a nationwide day of action, calling for a cease-fire in gaza. we saw protesters taking to major airports like chicago's o'hare and in philadelphia on the roads all in solitary with palestinians who are trapped in the middle of the war between israel and hamas. at get back to 880 now. around 880, the protesters chaining themselves to eight barrels filled with cement. this is near the embarcadero

exit. you can see it took hours for the chp to cut through those barrels and arrest the protesters who were attached to those barrels. around 8 a.m., another group of 300 protesters took over the south bound lanes of 880 and seven street. the result was another major backup. some commuters even tried to turn around and drove the opposite way on the highway trying to escape the gridlock. protesters say the goal was to stop the flow of the economy. >> we need an escalation with what we are seeing with the breaking of international law, with the breaking of human rights, of this genocide. so globally, we needed an escalation, and the only way to do that is to make it as expensive as possible to fund this genocide. >> they are here, nobody is doing nothing. everybody is waiting, for what? you want to go to the bathroom?

you want to eat? you want to work? you want to enjoy? we are not going to change the light for anybody. >> the question is, what now? what are the penalties for these protesters? in total 12 people were arrested between the two 880 demonstrations. the chp says they will face charges of unlawful assembly and refusing to comply with orders to disperse. much stiffer charges by chp for the protesters on the golden gate bridge. demonstrators there not only chained themselves to each other but also, as we mentioned, to the cars. here is nbc's sergio quintana. >> reporter: you can see a line of protesters and a line of chp officers facing them. this is right at the golden gate bridge. police say demonstrators chained themselves together and to others sitting in cars. it took responders more than four hours to disentangle them.

protest organizers say they intentionally planned this to coincide with tax day. >> a lot of the money is going from individuals that are working really hard, we don't want that money going to israel anymore. >> you don't think anybody in the bay area is being affected by this in a safety way? >> safety, no. economically possibly yes and that is the hope. >> there are people like kevin clark that were dropped off by his left driver by being stuck in traffic. he had been hoping to walk across the golden gate bridge to get to the brain. >> it looks to be about 45 minutes. >> bike and walking was shut down because of the protest. one san francisco citizen saying repeated efforts to shut down bridges and freeways isn't productive. >> is anti-any progress let's hope to be made. it sets things back. it makes people more angry at a time when really we need, and reason. >> after more than four hours, a busload of people who were detained as part of the protest

drove off the bridge as courted by police. 26 were ultimately arrested. several cars that were part of the demonstration were towed. chp says five in total will be impounded. fire trucks part of the response had to carefully back off of the bridge in order to leave the scene. >> california highway patrol leaders they this was a demonstration unlike many they had ever seen the. chief don with the highway golden gate division says they did bring in extra officers and stage them to respond because we heard of protests planned. they are charging people with conspiracy because of the coordinated protest. >> you can protest any which way you want but it is unlawful to block a roadway and to prevent people from getting to work, emergency personnel from getting to help people, you can't do it. >> will arrested on the golden gate bridge be charged by the san francisco district attorney's office. along with conspiracy charge they are facing other charges ranging vehicle code violations to false imprisonment for

30th. speak of the recount underway, santa clara and san mateo counties start the recount today, registered roadies voters will sort through thousands of again. right now the race for second place is deadlocked between county supervisor between county supervisor joe simitian and evan low. each got the exact number of votes in the march primary. both men are set to advance to a runoff against sam ricardo who won the primary, unless this recount changes the numbers. today the santa clara county registers buzzing with about 30 workers pressing some 150,000 ballots for the recount. >> very interesting situation. we are following procedures to make sure it is done correctly. >> there's a question about who will pay for the recount.

two voters made requests for the recount with out the support of either candidate.jonathan padilla agreed to put down $16,000 deposits to start the recount. he must continue to make payments every day until it is completed or the recount stops. the entire situation to take about a week with the count formally starting tomorrow. speak up after years of problem the federal women's prison in dublin is being shut down. the bureau of prisons will be transferring all the women to other facilities. since 2021 eight prison employees, including a former warden have been charged with sexually abusing the inmate. two have been convicted and five others have pled guilty. last week a judge appointed a special master to oversee the prison. inmate advocate and abuse survivors they closing the prison they are in dublin feels like punishment for the women who have already been victimized. >> we don't need to be transferred to another prison for being sexually abused, no, we need accountability.

>> the board of prisons declined to tell us if the transfers have already begun. the judge ordered that each inmate's case must be reviewed by the special master prior to transfer. san francisco deputy sheriffs association is asking for help from the national guard. this comes following a recent surge in inmate attacks against jail workers. that prompted the lockdown of two county jails. the sheriffs department says there's been an increase in assaults on deputies and jail staff since march. they say the national guard would help maintain safety until low staffing levels can be addressed. check it out, here it is, that much valued one $.7 million toilet is now officially open. it actually cost the city about $300,000, two companies donated the materials and the installation. however the original one $.7 million price tag sparked a lot of backlash and prompted the governor to pause the state

several people detained after leading police on a chase from san francisco to oakland this afternoon. sf pd saying they got a call saying someone was doing drugs in a car on don view way near twin peaks. when officers arrived, they found the car, they found it had been carjacked. suspects took off, triggering a chase to oakland. you can see the car.under the overpass. we are told several people ran from the vehicle. police say they detained multiple people. another big name to the long list of companies laying off employees. this time we are talking about tesla. >> tesla is cutting more than 10,000 jobs. let's bring in got woman who is outside the tesla factory in fremont. scott, what do you know? >> reporter: good evening jessica and ross. over the past couple of months , tesla has already seen your car deliveries, they see

declining stock price and they brought in complaints about cyber trucks. just today, the company announced a 10% reduction in its workforce. a 10% cut in tesla's workforce means about 14,000 employees. in a memo ceo elon musk says the move is necessary to prepare them company for its next wave of growth. some blame musk and others for driving customers away. >> he has made it difficult, he expresses white supremacist views on a daily basis, it's really hard to sell anything in that environment. >> ross garber invest in and drives a tesla but he says he hears from frustrated would-be owners regularly, especially those waiting for the company's new cyber truck. >> tesla taking tons of money for people from cyber trucks

that they bought, that should be delivered, that are just not being delivered. >> reporter: layoffs across the tech industry are piling up, now topping 70,000 so far this year. biotech giant abbott labs says it will cut 195 jobs and soon close its fairfield location. >> there is the new phase, the efficiency craze. >> reporter: silicon valley ceo russell hancock says many are still hiring. but focusing on ai and pleasing investors. >> now they are running really lean operations, they are finding it helps the bottom line, their profitability, it certainly makes their investors happy. >> reporter: actually that didn't happen here at tesla today. the layoff news was met by a declining stock price that fell off of about 5.5%. live in fremont, scott budman, nbc bay area news. >> thank you very much scott.

let's look at the golden gate bridge with our camera, where scott was, all we see is sunshine. >> it is beautiful. >> if we could have moved some of that to this past weekend -- >> thinking ahead. >> every monday dude. >> we have only had four weekends this year with sunny skies. there will be a weekend coming our way, it will be dry, also offer that sunshine and some of the most comfortable temperatures we've seen on a seven-day forecast in a long time. let's go ahead and get to it right now. start you off with the microclimate forecast. look at the difference we have seen, from saturday with that strange weather, the cold temperatures and the rainfall, we have 58 in concord, today up to a much better 70 degrees. santa rosa from 53 to 69 today. we are warming up and i see that trend continuing tomorrow.

we have high pressure moving from the south, that's basically moving the storm track off to the north to keep us dry and once again, temperatures going up by about 4 to 8 degrees tomorrow. we will be in the 40s throughout the bay area, 48 through the peninsula, south bay at 46 and that son mixing in. over 40 bait, dipping down to 47. daytime highs with tomorrow, the warm-up starting, we will be going 76 in san jose. that is a lot better for you. over to the east bay we will take it up to 75 for martinez, 74 in fremont, the coastline still stays in the cool 60s and not because of the 63, down to palo alto will be at 74. san francisco, before the marino, 65 outside. out towards mission, 68. that is some of our warmest weather and for the north bay going up to 78 in clear lake

down to sonoma, 75. looking good as we had through tomorrow's forecast. we will see a swarm storm system out in the pacific but everything right now shows that even though it is lining up offshore by saturday morning, breaking up, which would leave us with a dry weekend the way we see it right now. looking at this temperature trend, we are up to 81 and wednesday, san jose, thursday 80, and by this weekend, while numbers drop, it doesn't drop a whole lot with 76 on saturday, 77 on sunday in san jose. across san francisco, we will keep it in the 60s for this upcoming weekend, morning lows in the 50s and through the inland valleys, up to 80 on wednesday, and there we go. saturday and sunday, temperatures in the 70s, and that sunshine. you see me smiling about that weather this week. you are all smiling now. >> yes it will be really good, thanks jeff. up next dozens of youth

police arrested a group of teenage climate activists for blocking the street near the vice president's los angeles home. 40 people were near kamala harris's brentwood home this morning. harris did not see the demonstrators, her motorcade

took an alternate route from her home to los angeles. six protesters were arrested without any issue. it may come as no surprise that artificial intelligence is smarter than some humans sometimes. stanford scientist published a report today saying ai routinely exceeds human performance across a range of tasks, including on reading comprehension, visual learning and language processing. however, scientists found humans are better and more complex tasks advanced level math or understanding what images mean. scientists say the ability of ai to complete some task better and its ability to generate extremely photorealistic images does post concern for the spread of disinformation. another sign of a sluggish housing market in the bay area, a growing number of homeowners are taking a hit when it comes to selling. according to redfin, more than one in six homeowners in san
