attention. >> highly desirable location. great neighborhood. you're at the end of the cul-de-sac, and property values around you are in the $4 million, $5 million range. >> reporter: a house like this used to be known as a starter home, but around here the starter home may be a thing of the past. look at this data from redfin. the real estate company found you need to make more than $300,000 a year to afford a so-called starter home in the north or south bay. that's not what starter traditionally means. >> without building more homes, you're going to have homelessness and you're going to have poverty and you're going to have a middle class that can't afford to live here. >> reporter: as for this house, it too is likely not long for this world. >> this would be used for -- as a lot, as opposed to a house. that house has got to come down. >> i have so many questions for you. okay, one did it sell? two, are they just going to knock it down and build

6:19 pm
wasn't fair. honestly, because i still had to work and provide for myself and go to school, you know? >> have to have a job too. >> we should intern now. >> it was hard. exactly, yeah. let's talk weather. it's going to be really cozy at some point next week, but first we've got to get to the cooldown and the rain, of course, because it is going to impact at least half of your weekend. so currently we do have 50s, some low 60s on the map. the wind speeds from the south-southwest. we've got about 20 miles per hour and it will continue to be breezy at times. but notice the 24-hour temperature change. i mean about 15 degree, that's probably one of the most impactful things about this system initially before we see the rain moving. in where is the rain? it is right up here, you see the rotation of that system just to our north. a lot of that rain is primarily over oregon and far up into parts of ukiah. you can see near the border with chico as well. we will initially see the rain
6:20 pm
in the north bay, but the cloud cover will be dominating. i got to tell you about the sierra as well. we're going to be at about 20 to 30 miles per hour for most of us here. some of those coastal mountains could see wind gusts upwards of 40 plus miles per hour. southerly winds remain through your saturday, but the timing will be in important. so here it is, around 11:00, you can see that rain really beginning to build out in the pacific as that begins to move in, we're going to see heavier pockets at times into about 5:00 a.m. if you look at this orange glow here, we could see enough instability where a thunderstorm or two could be a possibility, isolated at time, and yes, even hail. when does the rain fully move out? let's take it through the afternoon. at around 12:00, we see that line of showers to our east and we do have some scattered activity left behind there. and don't be kind of putting your guard down just yet, because the breaks in the rain will come in waves. notice at around 6:00 we do get a push from the south and pockets of some heavy downpours
6:21 pm
could be possible, especially for san francisco, around half moon bay. we've got a bit of a bullseye with the santa cruz mountains. with that we could see the possibility of some hail as well into tomorrow evening. so even though we're going to get breaks here and there, late saturday into early sunday, if you notice here, we're going to see scattered activity by about 7:00, 8:00. the majority of that rain will have made its exit. and right now rain totals look to be less than two inches for most of us. the coastal mountains get the majority of it. look how stunning south lake tahoe looks right now. this is a live camera. about 57 degrees. >> that looks beautiful. >> doesn't it? as you know, it gets very gusty, 40, 50, 60-mile-per-hour winds, so driving conditions could get a bit tricky late saturday into sunday, especially, but it will be stunning once that system clears out. we get some warmer weather, though, expected to make its move in starting on tuesday with the return of high pressure in
