we were talking about this last week based on previously filed reports. among the risks that the company lists going forward, trump's many criminal trials and truth's social accountants raised the concern they may not have enough money to last. a southern california family is taking tesla to court over an accident in their model x. the suit describes how a mother parked her tesla in the garage, motor off, doors open so she could unload groceries, when her 2-year-old got back in the car, turned it on, put it in drive and pinned his mother against the garage wall. the complaint reads she began screaming for help and neighbors ran over but were unable to stop and reverse the model x. they had to guide neighbors how to do it. she says the system is flawed if a 2-year-old can start it. tesla has no system to comment to reports. we'll learn more in court. that's not the only civil trial

democrats showed up. in florida on monday, the state supreme court there let a six-week abortion limit stand, but also allowed the question of abortion to appear on the november ballot. even if biden can't win florida, and a democrat hasn't won florida since barack obama, the abortion question motivates voters. most floridians support abortion rights according to recent polling from the university of northern florida. so florida, as you know, is always a key state, it's also the only state in the entire region that doesn't or didn't have significant restrictions on abortions, which are banned, all but banned in all of these surrounding states. it meant it was where a lot of women seeking support and the procedure drove to. donald trump posted that

$175 million bond ahead of his due date. this is for the new york property fraud case. he lost that case, but he's appealing. he still has to pay the full $450 if he loses his appeal. but his ability to get that bond means the state attorney general cannot go after his assets for now. the judge in his other new york case, the criminal trial involving hush money to an adult film star, has broadened the gag order against mr. trump to include family members of those in court. trump had been attacking the judge's daughter online. prosecutors asked the judge to widen that order. trump is still free to criticize the judge and prosecutors, but not other court staff, their families, jurors or witnesses. now, many defense attorneys frown on their clients attacking the judge or the judge's children, especially before the trial starts, and a sentence is handed down. but it's fairly standard procedure for mr. trump, who constantly criticized the judge in his civil fraud case, calling

him a corrupt political hack, as well as a racist, and this was before judge engoron had decided his case. hope hicks is listed as a prosecution witness in the upcoming new york case, the criminal case, the hush money case. this according to the person with direct involvement in that case. "the new york times," though, the first to report it. trump's former attorney, michael cohen, has said hicks was directly involved in the negotiations with stormy daniels. now, trump has not denied the payments, but denies the two had a sexual relationship. daniels said they did. lastly, a judge in the hunter biden case in california refused his request to throw out his tax case. his attorneys had argued the charges were politically motivated, but, kris, the judge disagreed. >> thank you, scott. new this morning, some

california lawmakers want to give you the right to ignore work texts after hours. san francisco assemblyman matt haney is behind that right to disconnect legislation that would allow workers to ignore not just texts, but emails after hours. there are exceptions like if there's an emergency or a scheduling question, and opponents argue the bill is too vague and doesn't apply to all of us equally. california would be the first state to have a law like this if it passes. well, another drawing without a big jackpot winner. >> that means tomorrow's powerball jackpot is worth $1.09 billion, with a b. the numbers on your screen, in case you want to see if you won any smaller prizes. the cash value of the prize on wednesday is $527 million. the overall odds of winning is 1 in 292.2 million. we should note today is world autism awareness day. >> the whole month is dedicated
6:48 am
to increasing understanding and acceptance and awareness of people with autism. according to the cdc, 1 in 44 children in the u.s. has autism. this includes 1 in 27 boys and 1 in 116 girls. autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. so people with asd may behave and communicate and interact differently, also learn in ways that are different from most other people. this hits really close to home for kari. >> yeah, and so if you've been following my story you know that i have two kids on the autism spectrum. some may have advanced conversation skills like my son, k.j., where others like my 7-year-old daughter bella may be nonverbal. some people with autism spectrum disorder need a lot of help in their daily lives, others can work and live with little or no support. my daughter also has stomach issues and severe acid reflux

which caused her to stop eating two years ago. now everyone wants to know, how is she doing? it's much better. she does still require her feeding tube, but her development is making leaps and bounds thanks to the therapy she gets three hours a day five days a week. now, i found that the bay area has a big community of support, which has also been very helpful during those difficult times. that's her little sensory swing. if you're a caregiver of someone who may be on the spectrum, be sure to lean on that community and the resources and guidance that you get from the people around you. it really does make a huge difference. i definitely appreciate each and every one of you because you had given me some great tips, some people to reach out to, some therapy services. so it's definitely made a world of difference. >> and you've become such a resource for people, too, because you are dealing with so ends of the spectrum. >> oh, yeah. >> so you have a lot of experience. and you've been so open.

i think that autism in the beginning was like, we don't know what it is, we don't want to talk about it, we don't want the stigma. and removing the stigma really opens the doors. >> absolutely. and there's so many people here who are dealing with the same thing, and when you just open up and let people know what you're dealing with, they're like, oh, yeah, this is someone you should reach out to or this is a good service that may be able to help you. so just let it on out there. >> community is important. >> it's a big deal that you share because not everybody can or is able to share at that moment. you've been open with us, so now we understand that we can talk to you about things as well. it's really helped everybody. >> i appreciate that. thank you. so hopefully this helps someone and you reach out to your pediatrician for what to do next. >> thank you as well. >> and it's okay, right? >> yes, it is. >> you're a great mom. >> thank you. >> and those kids are so cute. i almost didn't hear what you

had to say. [ laughter ] >> i post all the time on social media, so be sure to follow me, let me know what you're thinking, what you're dealing with, and maybe we can help each other. >> that's what it's all about. let me help you with the forecast. we have some great weather coming in for today, but changes for the rest of the week. we're starting out with some upper 40s in oakland, it is 47 in walnut creek, it is 50 now in san jose. so it is a cool morning. but look at our afternoon highs we're expecting for today. los gatos reaching a high of 75 degrees and 76 in east san jose, and the seven-day forecast, you'll see why you'll want to enjoy today. we do see a big drop in temperatures coming in. we're still headed up for 74 in walnut creek and danville today, oakland looking at a high of 71, and 64 in daly city and half moon bay. san francisco will also be in the mid-60s with the mission district up to 66 degrees, and

72 in sonoma. so we do have a cold front coming in that arrives tomorrow. the rain off and on between thursday and friday, more sierra snow, but some of the bay area peaks may have some snow as well, with very cold air following in behind this cold front. it gets a little milder and clears out for saturday and sunday, but then another cold front will be dropping in and we'll be watching changes as well. let me show you napa and the changes we'll see. we're going from highs in the 60s and 70s to thursday, the high temperature, 49 degrees. it is going to be so cold and raining off and on, and the weekend is still going to be chilly. look at next week. nice little warm-up, temperatures in the 70s, and we will see things clearing out just in time for that solar eclipse. just a partial eclipse for us, but at least we don't have to worry about clouds. we'll be tracking the changes with the temperatures and rain over the next few days. mike, the traffic is still
6:53 am
shifting around the east bay? >> it is. we're recovering from the earlier issue that had two lanes blocked on the eastshore freeway. speed sensors are improving. the backup continues to build out of el cerrito and into berkeley for west 80, also coming off of the bridge from san rafael to the east bay. the rest of the east bay is standard, not so bad. i thought there was going to be a quick build on the bay bridge, but it's slower at the toll plaza are folks are released. this is an indicator of how light is traffic is for the rest of the feeder routes out of the maze. in the south bay, we have 85, 87 and 101 showing a slower drive and more trouble as we had an earlier crash north 101 at 237. both were slowing. back to you. happening now, there are going to be new bike lanes in palo alto on a busy roadway. it happens after city council passed a proposal to add those bike lanes on el camino real. they did that last night. the department of transportation came up with a proposal to make
6:54 am
the road safer. so parking on the road will be removed to make way for those lanes. the plan did face criticism because some people say that losing those parking spots could impact local business and could displace people who live in rvs along the street. that plan includes finding alternative parking options once those bike lanes are added. next, a look at the top stories making headlines, including nurses on strike. we want to give you a live look in san jose where hundreds have walked off the job. we're going to talk about the demands being made, ongoing negotiations,nd the impact to a

santa clara valley health care says it has spent $20 million to cover this strike and is bringing in more than 1,000 contracted nurses. well, this morning napa sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting in a safeway parking lot on american canyon yesterday afternoon. we know three people were shot but we don't know their conditions. the sheriff's department telling us that they haven't made arrests, but they did detain two people for questioning. if you saw what happened there, you are asked to call napa county sheriff's department. today the a's will meet with leaders from oakland and alameda county to talk about extending the team's lease at the coliseum for another five years. the team has committed to play at the coliseum through this season. in las vegas there is a step forward in construction for the team's new stadium, the tropicana hotel officially closes today. the sin city landmark closures comes ahead of the planned demolition so the a's can build their $1.5 billion stadium. a look at the forecast. a beautiful forecast today.

i like to say it. >> it's going to be a warm day. temperatures start in the 50s, then we're headed for the mid-70s in the inland areas. it will be fairly mild tomorrow and rain developing on thursday. look at the drop-off in the temperatures, going down about 20 degrees over the course of a couple of days, and our mornings in the upper 30s, off and on rain, and then we are going to see in time for the solar eclipse on monday, we're looking at sunshine. >> don't look at the sun. this is north 101, there's still an issue. northbound there are a couple of lanes blocked as you travel past ellis through mountain view. it's jamming up 237 as well as 101 coming into the area from about lawrence expressway on either freeway. so that is the issue for the south bay, although the volume is heavier than yesterday, it's lighter than many tuesdays. we talked about spring break drifting around for many schools
