"early today" starts right now. good morning and thanks for joining us, i'm jessica layton. we begin this morning in gaza where seven aid workers, including an american, have been killed by an apparent israeli airstrike. they all belong to the world central kitchen. that's a charity that has delivered aid to gaza via boat.

our team in gaza says they saw victims with british, australian and polish passports all being brought to the hospital. for the very latest on this, let's go live to chapman bell. we know this is still developing, but what do we know so far? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. world central kitchen releasing a statement saying its team was traveling in a de-conflicted zone, three of them were armored cars with world central kitchen logos. they were hit by an idf attack as the convoy was leaving a warehouse where the team had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian aid brought to gaza by boat. following these reports, the idf saying they are conducting a thorough review at the highest levels to try to understand the circumstances of this tragic accident. now chef jose andres, who

founded world central kitchen releasing a statement, saying, i am heartbroken and grieving. the israeli government needs to stop this indiscriminate killing. now this follows an airstrike in which iran accused israel of conducting on a consulate building in syria, where two generals and three other officers were killed. israel not commenting on this, as they typically do, with any airstrikes inside syria, but it is iran's ambassador vowing revenge for the attack, as fears continue to grow that this conflict could spread and continue to grow in the region. jessica? >> another major layer to this ongoing war. all right, chapman, thank you. let's turn now to the latest in the trials of donald trump. the former president has now posted a $175 million bond in the new york civil fraud case. it was provided by a california-based insurance company. nbc's brie jackson is joining us

live from d.c. what does this mean now for mr. trump? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. it means that donald trump's properties and other assets are safe for now. they were in danger of being seized by new york authorities, but now they are protected while the appeals process continues. attorneys for trump say he will be vindicated and that this verdict will be overturned. if that does not happen, mr. trump had still owe more than $450 million. meanwhile, in the criminal hush money case in new york, judge jua juan marchand has extended a gag order. the republican frontrunner has called on the judge to recuse himself and repeatedly attacked marchand's daughter because she worked with the firm that was used by democratic campaigns. trump accused the daughter of using a picture of him behind bars as her profile picture on social media. but a spokesperson for the court

said the account was not actually hers. the d.a.'s office says trump's attacks have been based on falsehoods, saying the defendant knows what he is doing and everyone else does too. a source with direct knowledge tells nbc news that hope hicks is expected to testify in the hush money case. hicks was the trump campaign press secretary back in 2016 when trump is alleged to have made hush money payments. now mr. trump has denied any wrongdoing, jessica? >> all right, brie, thank you. now to some major decisions out of florida's supreme court on monday. the justices approving a measure on recreational marijuana for the november ballot. and two decisions impacting abortion rights, paving the way for a six-week ban but with a chance for voters to reverse that on election day. here's laura jarret. >> reporter: florida's highest court paving waithe way for a

strict abortion ban to go into effect. the conservative court finding the state's constitution does not protect abortion rights, which will now allow florida to ban the procedure as early as six weeks into pregnancy, before many women know that they're pregnant. the law signed last year by republican governor ron desantis now set to go into effect in the next 30 days. >> we are here today to defend those who can't defend themselves. >> reporter: it's all likely to usher in a sea change, not only in florida but throughout the south, as the state has seen a surge in patients from surrounding states that have passed stricter bans since roe versus wade was overturned. but at the same time, the court also approving key language for a constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights after advocates gathered enough signatures for voters to decide the issue this november. >> i feel like women should not be told what to do. >> i don't think they should have abortion at all. >> reporter: if passed, it would guarantee the right to abortion

before viability, which is usually around 24 weeks, or when necessary to protect the patient's health. >> our thanks to laura for that report. a man in georgia this morning is facing state and federal charges after ramming his car allegedly into the atlanta fbi field office. police say the suspect tried to follow an employee car inside the gate, then crashed into the barrier once it closed. after his car was stopped, the suspect apparently got out and tried walking into the fbi building but he was quickly placed into custody. nobody was hurt, and officials say it's still too early to tell whether this was a potential act of terror. this morning, a lawyer for rashee rice says the nfl star is cooperating with authorities as they now investigate a six-vehicle crash in dallas that may have involved one of his cars. bring sill priscilla thompson has the latest. >> reporter: for the first time since this terrifying crash,

kansas chiefs wide receiver, rashee rice is responding, amid reports that his car may have been involved. his attorney writing in a statement that rice is cooperating fully with authorities and will take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly. adding, his thoughts are with everyone impacted. the response comes 48 hours after this six-car crash, caused police say, by this lamborghini and d corp core corvet core corn the expressway. one car slamming into the center median. kayla quinn says she and her 4-year-old son were headed home after a day at the zoo when they were among those hit. this could have ended way worse, she wrote on social media. both cars hitting me, yet me and my baby walked out untouched.

loo who are looking for financial aid. universities are sounding the alarm saying they will not be able to process it all in time. here's stephanie gosk. >> reporter: choosing a college is hard enough. but, as the enrollment deadline draws near, some students still don't know if they will get the financial aid they need to pay for school. frustrating virginia high schooler kate tunstall. how many schools accepted you? >> um, five or six. >> reporter: how many of them have told you whether or not they hwill offer financial aid? >> none of them. >> reporter: issues with the federal government's new financial aid form, fafsa keep mounting. >> some will choose not to go to college and that will be a tragedy. >> reporter: according to a survey, 67% don't think their school can process financial aid in the next few weeks.
