right now at 11:00, the following breaking news in napa county, shooting outside of a safeway store. three people were shot. this is an american canyon, which is between napa and vallejo. it happened around 4:30 this afternoon, investigators are still on the scene late tonight. someone opened fire in the parking lot of that safeway. >> officers arrived on scene, located three males that are suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. first aid was provided by the officers that responded on scene and were transported, all three were transported to the hospital. clearly we do not know the conditions of those three victims at this hour, as for the suspect or suspects, please tell us no arrests have been made yet but if the officers have detained two

people for questioning. anyone who saw the shooting is asked to call the napa county sheriff department. the top story this evening, a developing situation along our coast, >> hundreds of people are essentially trapped in the big sur area, both tourist and people who live and work. so you see right here, this is why. the weekend storm washed out a part of highway 1, a section of the road you can see right here, just completely gone. so here is the section we are talking about. just north of the 60 bridge and south of carmel. it is a full closure, traffic convoys are now on the way here is jocelyn moran. >> reporter: drivers are not being allowed past this . earlier in the evening we did get a closer look at where the collapse happened and seeing it up close you can better understand why crews and officials are being very cautious. tonight, crews continue to assess his area of highway 1, where a portion of it collapsed

on saturday afternoon in the middle of heavy rain left hundreds of people stranded. we got to the bridge, there was ironman and chp there, turning everybody around, saying go back into town. >> linda molinari was in big sur on saturday. this happened on the south outside of this two lane road south of carmel, forcing part of the highway to close saturday. on sunday, a set of convoys with the escort drivers through the area. we pretty much right at 12:00 started bleeding everybody across. and we were able to get out in that first wave. >> reporter: those convoys will continue to happen daily, one at 8:00 a.m., another at 4:00 p.m. while many have been able to pass through, tourists felt the impact this evening. luca gonzalez is visiting from spain, was hoping to go to big sur and then los angeles but instead he is thinking of other plans.

you think we are going to be spending today in this area. we will be sleeping probably in monterey. >> we are coming from atlanta, georgia. >> reporter: visiting families in fremont, they were hoping to spend a day in big sur. >> we thought google maps would know about the road closures and stuff but this apparently did not work and we just learned about that. >> reporter: crews are now working to set up concrete barriers. they will go on these pink lines, to make it safer for workers as they work to repair the road and for drivers during the convoys. there is no set timeline as yet of when this portion of the highway will be fixed but we are being told those daily convoys will continue to happen in the weeks ahead. in big sur, i am jocelyn moran, nbc bay area news. today's sunshine was a huge help. get this, we have rain later this week. >> let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. weather could complicate, though.

crews making those emergency repairs. >> were not expecting a kind of flooding rains but with situation on their hands, any kind of rainfall would just continue to erode at that cliff. so right now we've got clear condition out here across the bay area. the next storm system is setting up here over, you can see a little bit of time to get down here to the bay area. as we had through tomorrow, stays dry. thursday, that is the day rain returns, thunderstorms and small hail can also be in bedded within this rainfall coming our way. bay area mountains, down to to thousand feet. i get to the latest on the bay area rain, how much and how long this lasts for us. latest details coming up in about 15 minutes. >> all right, jeff, thank you. a developing story overseas. there's word tonight that seven aid workers have been killed in gaza while working to distribute food and there. world central kitchen just confirmed that within the last hour. the well-known nonprofit organization provides meals and

regions of conflict. in a statement, world central kitchen says they were killed in an airstrike as they left the warehouse they had unloaded more than 100 tons of food brought by ships. they were traveling in two armored cars with the world central kitchen logo and american is among the seven dead. the ceo of world central kitchen said, quote, this is not on the an attack against wc k, this is an attack on humanitarian organizations showing up in the most dire situations when food is being used as a weapon of war. this is unforgivable. tonight, the group is pausing operations immediately in gaza. meantime, u.s. officials met with israeli leaders virtually today, they talked about alternatives to a ground invasion into gaza. the city of rafah, that comes as israeli forces withdrew from gaza's main hospital following a two week raid. new at 11:00 am a significant night for las vegas

and, for that matter, oakland. it is the final night for las vegas landmark, the tropicana hotel and casino is shutting down. in his place, the a's new ballpark, scheduled to be completed by 2028 the tropicana casino you see here will close at 3:00 a.m., the last hotel guest will check out tomorrow by noon. also tomorrow back here at the bay area, a's officials will meet with oakland city leaders to discuss a lease extension at the coliseum. the a's lease is expiring at the end of the season, but they will need a place to play until 2028. and even if a deal gets done, this is a toxic relationship between the a's and oakland. pete suratos. >> reporter: mixed reaction from a's fans tonight at the coliseum, who aren't sure about this idea about the a's playing multiple seasons here in oakland. i did get a chance to speak to an executive who believed this

short-term extension keep the a's and the city would not be a good one for major league baseball. empty seats of the coliseum, oakland a's game this season. opening day with thousands of fans boycotting the game from outside of the ballpark. the team's imminent move to las vegas in 2028. >> i just don't see the fans coming back. i think the trust has been broken there is no way that people are going to give their money to john fisher. >> reporter: fans are skeptical about tomorrow's meeting between the city of oakland and the a's to discuss the five- year $97 million extension. to play at the coliseum beyond this season when the current lease expires. >> the city is asking for between 100 times what the a's are paying now to rent the stadium. so i don't think the a's will go for it. >> reporter: the team gets knocked out of the deal after three years when they expect to move to vegas. however they do, the a's still pay the city the full amount of

the contract. with little ban support so far this season, the executive believes the team should look elsewhere. >> if you're going to extend that lease for three years, four years, or five years in a ghost town, that is one of the worst marketing plans for major league's fault that you could ever consider. >> the city is also asking major-league to create a path for oakland to get an expansion team or help with the sale of the a's to local ownership. the a's all looking at relocation spots like celtic city or sacramento. hoping the team stays in oakland, even if it is for a few short years. >> it is a laying duck situation. i don't know. i am just going to keep coming to games until something is decided. >> reporter: in oakland, pete suratos, nbc bay area news. a notable meeting on the peninsula, and it is all about adding bicycling to a busy stretch of roadway. palo alto city council is meeting right now to consider removing free parking to make way for bike lanes. this is what happened on el camino real running through palo alto. the department of

transportation came up with this proposal to make the road safer but it is facing some criticism .1 reviewed the proposal find it doesn't address high speeds on the road. others say could damage local businesses. and then about 40 people who live in rvs along that street would be displaced. caltrans says if the proposal doesn't go through, they will work on other planes. tomorrow hundreds of nurses in the south bay will be walking off the job and onto the picket line. as part of a three-day strike by the santa clara valley healthcare system. the walkout involves all three of the counties hospitals. o'connor and valley met in san jose and st. louis regional in gilroy. nurses at 13 county medical clinics are also expected to strike. their reunion is calling for increases to staffing, pay, benefits and security. santa clara valley healthcare says it is negotiating in good faith and hopes to avert the strike. also says patient care will not be affected.

mcsweeney nbc bay area news. passes workers in california just got a pay raise. new state law requires major fast food chains to pay workers at least 20 bucks an hour, that is up from 16 bucks an hour. that took effect today. supporters of this pay increase say it is necessary because of the high cost of living here in california, especially the bay area. but some business owners are warning of higher prices on the menu to help offset the increased labor costs. >> immediately, today, april 1st we raised our prices around 5 to 10% and we basically need to see how that is going to impact the customer. right now we are looking at reducing hours, definitely not able to hire anyone right now. and if they get bad enough, we may have to close down our stores. >> brian also tells us his customers won't keep coming back if prices are too much. industry experts say some restaurants may end up laying

get your tickets ready, here comes tonight winning number. number 24. i could tell you nobody hit the powerball jackpot tonight. so it is now rolled over to an estimated 1.9 billion dollars. let's find someone won a big prize was back in michigan, that was for $842 million. the next powerball drawing is on wednesday and if the winner takes a cash payout, he or she will take home more than 483 million bucks before taxes. by the way, odds of winning is one in 292 million. it is the battle of bay area airports, or at least the name. sfo and oakland are at odds over a proposed name change. it all started last week when officials at oakland international announced they're looking to change its name to san francisco bay oakland

international airport. doesn't really roll off the tongue. they say a lot of people, a lot of travelers aren't aware that oakland is part of the bay area. they also . out that oakland international is located on the san francisco bay and they want travelers and tourists to know it is a convenient option to get to other places across our region. the problem is, sfo isn't on board. the director of sfo is making an official request to reconsider this name change one that doesn't start with san francisco. >> it is almost 100 years at the word san francisco has been associated with this airport. and we understand the, and airports designed to attract more customers, we are all trying to do that. but my big concern is that this is going to end up causing more confusion and ultimately disservice to passengers. a port of oakland commission will have the final say on this name change. commissioners are scheduled to vote on this issue april 11th. safety issues at boeing are sending more ripples throughout the airline industry.

united airlines is asking its pilots to take unpaid time off next month and potentially through the summer. the airline is blaming delayed deliveries from boeing. on friday, united notified its pilots union of the cutback. the company hasn't commented yet on these delays. however, its ceo, dave calhoun, step down last week. boeing has faced increased scrutiny from the faa this year after that door plug blowout of a max 9 jet midflight. the city of millbrae is pushing back against a project to convert a local motel into housing. county entered into a contract to buy la quinta in on el camino real last year using expected money from project home key. the plan was to convert the in the four housing for the homeless but millbrae is now suing to stop that sale. this is the county didn't follow the correct procedures to buy the motel and today city leaders and community members gathered outside la quinta to voice their concerns they say

they're worried about safety and how the project could affect the community. >> has the county done due diligence to find out if they're going to do something that hurts millbrae economically, that they would have know that this is not the right location on that and they would have worked for us to find other properties that are vacant, unlike this highly successful hotel that had recently been remodeled and is recovering from covid. >> a hearing for the lawsuit between the city and the county is set for wednesday. all right, thousands of you drivers may soon lose access to the carpool lane. that is unless congress decides to do something about it. we're talking about those coveted stickers. there they are, that allow drivers of electric hybrid and hybrid powered cars to drive in the hov lane, even solo. the program expires next september, not this september but next september. the thing is, congress will not extend the program. the program was started back in

francisco. the one spot starting it off low 50s. even though we start on the chilly side, wait until you see these temperatures tomorrow. we are going back up, up, up. check it out across the south bay, 76 in san jose. that is going to be some of the best weather, 75 here in los gatos, continues her over to the vallejo, 74 in annville, 71 here in hayward. peninsula also getting enough sunshine late wind and san mateo to palo alto, not quite as warm here for daly city and half moon bay but that is because we have that ocean breeze that will also be with us in san francisco but here in downtown up to 65 and look at this nearly 80 degrees in ukiah. that is also some incredible weather tomorrow .74 here in santa rosa, 73 in novato to get outside, do something tomorrow. because that rain is going to come and that weather is going to turn for is really fast. once we get thursday's forecast the storm system drops down not only rain and thunderstorms chances but we talked about a cold blast of air here. 20 to 25 degrees colder once we get thursday's forecast. let me show you the rainfall

here first. i think the best bet of getting that rain would be on thursday this week. as we head through friday will do see spotty chance. overall totals on thursday would be a quarter to a half inch. then as we head through friday, rain total step down from only trace amounts to a 10th of an inch. let's get to those temperatures. as we head into tomorrow we should do that 76 in san jose. but look at this 55 by the time i get to thursday's forecast. but it does get better once we get to next week, we will eventually get back to the 70s certainly that is more like it. okay, let's get you the seven- day forecast here that rain on thursday and friday, only a 20% chance on saturday. sunday, a 50% chance. these totals, thinking at this . tomorrow would go even less. right now doesn't look like a whole lot of rainfall for the upcoming weekend. just in case you haven't heard, that eclipse is coming in next monday, a partial a close at 10:14 in the morning. the sun will be obscured by 35%. so the earth, moon, and son aligning. that will be super exciting. even if we see a little bit of it it will be a big deal.

club don't let it go, dramatic video big rescue in marin county. it happened last night around 7:30. the sonoma county sheriff's chopper was called in to rescue this guy that fell from a cliff near the battery alexander trailhead in mill valley. the person was about 60 feet down from the trail and was clinging to rock when that chopper and rescuers arrived, gently that victim was flown to safety. google is allowed to delete a lot of user data and it is all because of a massive consumer privacy lawsuit. the class-action lawsuit say google began tracking their data when they were browsing in incognito mode. google initially settled the suit for about $5 billion in february, users won't be

receiving payment from that settlement, however, the company is for you today to destroy billions of records it secretly tracked. will also have to explicitly disclose what data it collects in incognito mode. we heard this before, bay area home prices are soaring, making it a lot tougher for potential homebuyers to make it in the bay. here are the latest numbers from the california association of realtors say the median price for a home in the south bay is $1.8 million, that is a 20% jump in one year. san francisco, median home cost is $1.6 million, also a leap of last year. realtors say last, a sellers market with buyers making multiple bids just to get a home. the soaring home prices also expected to drive more people to rent or keep renting instead of trying to buy a housing market. up next with the giants didn't do at
