[ laughter ] i think that was nice. meanwhile, daylight savings was over the weekend, and today is considered the groggiest day of the year this morning everyone in the office had the vibe of al pacino at the oscars, you know what i'm saying

[ laughter ] that's right, last night was the 96th oscars. congratulations to jimmy kimmel, who did a great job hosting, by the way. good man [ cheers and applause great job. "oppenheimer" was the big winner, taking home seven awards, including best picture while the award for most paused picture went to john cena. [ laughter and applause [ cheers and applause i mean, god bless, john. i could never do something like that if i did, i'd win the oscar for best short [ laughter ] you know what i'm saying hey, as i mentioned, people are talking about this - al pacino presented the award for best picture, and he sparked some confusion with the way he announced the winner. take a look at this. >> ten wonderful films were nominated. but only one will take the award for best picture and -- i have to go to the envelope for that.

[ laughter ] well, listen to this, i read that a vegan bakery in new york is under investigation for allegedly trying to pass off dunkin donuts as their own. [ cheers and applause ♪ ♪ [ cheers and applause >> jimmy: welcome to the show, everybody. dude, i had a really fun weekend. i did a surprise standup i did ten minutes of standup, and surprised people in syracuse, new york, and albany, new york i went -- i opened for nate bargatze, who's amazing but julian mccullough was there. [ cheers and applause julian mccullough, super funny mike james, joe zimmerman, steven rogers. i -- nate asked me to do this like three months ago, and i just said "all right, i'll just go." and so, i just -- i flew to syracuse and surprised the audience it was, like, 12,000 people or something. and when -- that's where you go to try material. >> steve: yeah, exactly. [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: but it was super fun these guys are the best. and then, nate had these tour buses, and i -- we all got on

the tour bus at -- overnight, like in these little bunks, and just talking about comedy and stuff like that. and then i woke up, i was in albany and that's where i went to college. so, i went to visit the college of saint rose. i went to my old college i went to my old apartment >> steve: ooh. [ audience oohs >> jimmy: and rang the doorbell [ light laughter ] these two kids came down i go, "hey, what's up, man." they're like, "can we help you? i'm like, "no, i used to live here." and they're like, "are you jimmy ?" and i go like, "yeah what's going on, dude? they thought they were getting punk'd or something. took a picture with those guys then i went to -- i crashed a frat party >> steve: oh, yeah [ cheers and applause i went in -- i just saw on hudson there was some -- all kids standing outside. it was eggs and kegs [ light laughter ] is that a thing? i don't know what that is. but i went in there, i walked in, i was like, "hey, guys, what's up? and they're like, "are you -- are you going to come to our party? i go, "yeah, i'll come in. whatever, just check in, check it out." they were so nice, very polite, thank you, whatever frat that was. very -- they were just fun, having a good time then i went to this hotel the second night before -- before i went and did the gig, and it was raining. and i forgot to eat lunch. and i had, like, a bag of potato chips from something. i was just eating chips by myself alone [ laughter ] it was just kind of sad. it was just kind of sad. and going over my ten minutes over and over for hours. it's -- you don't understand how psycho that is, right? it's like -- [ light laughter ] but i used to do it. do you remember -- you did standup, right >> steve: that's how it goes, yeah that's what you do >> jimmy: it felt like i was back - >> steve: felt like back in time you took a trip back in time >> jimmy: it's really awesome. then i went, i did standup for everyone at the mvp arena. and it was so fun. and i'm gonna do it again. i want to go back. so, i want to thank everyone [ cheers and applause thank you, nate. thanks, everyone, so much. guys, i also want to mention tomorrow night at 10:00 p.m. on nbc is the season two premiere of "password!" come on! ♪ [ cheers and applause

and the aristocracy were wiped out during this revolution they killed everybody. and this count is allowed to -- he's spared, but they sentence him to house arrest in the hotel that he lives in at the moment, he lives -- has a suite of rooms in the metropol hotel on red square, and they sentence him to house arrest in that hotel so, for the next 40 years, the story take place within the walls of the hotel, and he's never allowed to leave >> jimmy: wow. >> it's a story of great love and heart. and it's a beautiful, beautiful story. >> jimmy: and mary, who do you play >> i play anna urbanova, who was a russian film actress, very, very fabulous character, who was so much fun to play. who has a kind of, you know, liaison, romantic liaison with the count that grows over time over the course of 30 years into, like, a real love. and so, it was -- it was so much fun to get to play that with my actual love. >> oh. >> jimmy: i want to show a

you grew up doing plays. your parents own a theater >> yes, yes, my father runs a theater. my mother was a stage actress. and i actually started in musical theater. not a lot of people know this. >> jimmy: in north carolina. >> they know me from very dramatic roles >> jimmy: yeah, i didn't know this >> yeah, musical theater >> jimmy: when did you first see "little shop of horrors" >> i first saw "little shop" when i was a kid i saw the movie, like a lot of people, and again, there's muppets in it. i'm a huge, you know - >> jimmy: oh, yeah >> -- muppet fan frank oz directed it >> jimmy: we've had audrey -- the plant, audrey ii - >> no, you haven't >> jimmy: -- on the show and there's amazing puppeteers >> amazing puppeteers, yeah, doing the show and it's so good that even when the -- the puppet is idle, it looks like it's breathing. it feels like it's alive >> jimmy: yeah >> and there's nothing more unnerving than forgetting a line when you're doing a a scene with a monster, 'cause it just stares at you -- >> jimmy: yeah [ heavy breathing >> -- like this. >> jimmy: breathing. >> like it literally -- like it's hovering, and you're just like, "i don't know what i'm supposed to say anymore. >> jimmy: it's scary >> it's very scary i was very scared of audrey being eaten in the film. >> jimmy: yeah, you get -- yeah your character gets eaten by the plant. >> yeah. so, when i signed on, i realized i was going to have to overcome this deep-seated childhood fear i had of getting

eaten by this plant. >> jimmy: yeah >> it was really scary >> jimmy: yeah, you're currently in therapy right now [ laughter ] >> yes, i have my therapist on speed dial after the show. >> jimmy: how do you -- how do you get in do you jump into the plant how does --? >> no, no, it's kind of like -- like, half in, half out, feet kicking out of the mouth [ laughter ] you know like the classic 'cause it's kind of campy. but what makes it less scary is that i made friends with the puppeteers, and there's one specific one named teddy who, when the plant chomps on me over and over, inside the plant, i can hear, "chomp, chomp! [ laughter ] "chomp, chomp, arrr, chomp, chomp. >> jimmy: he makes you feel happy. >> that takes away some of the terrifying-ness. >> jimmy: you can't get scared by that. >> no. >> jimmy: your -- your character, audrey, has a very fun '60s new york accent >> she does. "yes, audrey she talks like this, and it's very --" [ cheers "like -- it sticks sometimes i go home, and i'm still slipping in and out of it, and my friends point it out. and they're like, 'you know you're talking like audrey right now.' and i'm like, 'i can't stop, i'm sorry.
