right now at 6:00, we are following the bizarre and deadly crash. what investigators know, so far. a shootout at a hookah lounge. a repeat visit from law enforcement, they report. the news at 6:00 starts right now. thanks for joining us. we begin with the breaking news on the peninsula in the last 20 minutes, all lanes of this highway have opened up followed a deadly crash. it happened not far from the woodside road accident, a deadly crash. we have the very latest.

>> reporter: this crash happened before 3:00 this afternoon on south bound i highway to haiti. a woman that was killed was in her 40s. a 15-year-old passenger suffered major injuries. the white ford sedan was traveling the wrong way, northbound into the wrong way of to haiti. they slammed into another vehicle. the woman died at the scene. the 14-year-old passenger was transported to stanford hospital, where he was treated with major injuries. the wrong way driver was arrested and he is being treated for minor injuries. he doesn't know if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. there was an unusual report made about the same time the

crash happened. someone called and said they saw a naked man running from a white vehicle in the same area of highway 280. officers are investigating that report. while the investigation is underway, the traffic is flowing in the area. a woman in her 40s was killed. a 14-year-old boy suffered major injuries. we do not know if that was her son. live off highway 280, nbc bay area news. our team sent out a alert as soon as we learned about the crash and the traffic backup. get weather alerts and news stories straight to your phone. a fight at a hookah lounge turned into a early-morning gunbattle. it left two people

dead and two people went to the hospital. >> reporter: not the first time that sheriff deputies have responded to the hookah lounge on mission boulevard in hayward. >> it's an illegal business where people gather and have parties. it's not supposed to be functioning. they don't have licensing and permits. >> reporter: the departments crime prevention and reduction team have visited the lounge several times. it has continued to operate, even though it was ordered to close in 2021. early in the morning, a fight broke out. two people started shooting at each other. four people were shot, one died at the scene and second person died in the hospital. >> that's too close to home. >> reporter: close to home and

her two daughters. >> i see a lot of police there and it's always between 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning. >> reporter: another neighbor said it's a sign of the times piddle. battles that were settled by fists when he was growing up, now they are settled with guns. >> if you have a confrontation, move on, i have two boys, i keep telling them. >> reporter: they are talking to witnesses. encouraging everyone about information to come forward. the county has ordered the business to close. it doesn't have the proper licenses and permits. still, the lounge stayed open. the county posted notices, ordering the business to shut down. in 2021, they heard

hearings about complaints piling up. deputy sheriff officers were there 71 times. several online reviews by former patrons, they describe the atmosphere as ready to erupt at any moment. we could not contact the owner for a response. a shooting in the fruit dale neighborhood. when officers got there, they found a person shot. paramedics rushed that person to the hospital, no word on how they are doing. we don't have any more information now. and here, and armed robbery where jewelry was taken. $100,000 of jewelry, including a rolex walks.

we are asking anyone with information to come forward. a small fire at a home in cupertino this afternoon. firefighters arrived and the attic was 70% engulfed. nobody was hurt and the fire was contained to the attic. no word on what may have sparked that fire. doing spring cleaning on this earth day. volunteers spent the day cleaning up in alameda. they had bucket sandbags to collect garbage. most of the trash, they say, was plastic straws, cigarette butts and bottle caps and cams. >> you have people coming out. >> it's important to take part of our landscape, ecosystem. everybody needs to contribute. >> this group said they picked
