the attacks are fueling the debate over public safety in san francisco. here's nbc bay area's sergio quintana. >> reporter: in security camera video obtained exclusively by dailymail.com, you can see tech executive bob lee after he'd been stabbed stumbling to the call box of the portside condominiums and collapsing. moments later he gets to hands and knees, stands up and walks out of frame. the time stamp is 2:36 a.m. just a few moments earlier, he dialed 911, calling for help. in scanner audio posted online, a san francisco emergency dispatcher recounts a 911 call from a man who screamed, "help, someone stabbed me" but hung up without giving a location. she directed police to the location the cell phone call came from. lee was found and rushed to the hospital where he later died. someone who works nearby tells us they saw police collecting a four to five-inch knife inside the cal trans yard across the street from the place where lee collapsed. lee's death has garnered national attention, in part

because he's highly regarded in the financial tech world. one man who we saw drop off flowers at the memorial outside the portside condos says he was hoping to see lee in miami in a couple of weeks. the ongoing search for anyone connected to the fatal stabbing of bob lee also comes as san francisco police are piecing together details in another high-profile attack in the city. according to several friends and family, former city fire commissioner don carmenami, the man on the left side of the frame, was attacked wednesday outside his parents' home in the marina district. >> he was beat with a metal pipe by a homeless person who wouldn't leave his parent easy home. >> reporter: supervisor catherine stefani says carbonyeni is recovering in a local hospital. police arrested 24-year-old garrett dodi, in jail on felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon. crime in the city has become a hot topic. today during a news event in fisherman's wharf, former house speaker nancy pelosi offered condolences to bob lee's family.

>> on this good friday, we mourn with his family. so sad in the season of passover and easter that the family suffers that tragedy. >> reporter: her husband was violently attacked in their pacific heights home five months ago. david depape is facing state and federal charges in that incident. san francisco police are yet to make an arrest in the fatal attack on bob lee. she is officially out of a job. san jose police association fired its executive director, joann segovia, charged with drug trafficking last month. that's when the association launched the first phase of its internal investigation. she's accused of getting 60 shipments of fentanyl to her home in san jose, then distributing the drugs across the country. segovia has worked for the police association for 20 years. in the next phase of its internal investigation, the police association says it's going to look into allegations that segovia used police union

resources to do her illegal business. >> we want to make sure we're being as thorough as possible. and those kind of things don't occur over a day or a week. it's going to take some time to ensure the integrity of this organization, instill the confidence that has always been there for our members, as well as with the public. >> segovia will be back in court in two weeks on her criminal charges. democrats from the white house on down are condemning the actions of republican tennessee lawmakers. this comes after the gop super majority kicked out two democratic members from the statehouse represent after they protested for gun control on the chamber floor. one of those democrats, justin jones, grew up here in the east bay before going to college and starting his political career in tennessee. this rare expulsion is shining a spotlight on the nation's contentious debate over guns.

here's nbc's dallas barr. >> reporter: in tennessee today, fallout from an unprecedented vote to expel two democratic lawmakers exposing the nation's fault lines. >> they had a protest against house policy on the floor. >> one thing we won't do is ever quit! >> reporter: vice president kamala harris traveling to nashville in solidarity with representatives justin jones and justin pearson. >> the truth must never be stifled or silenced when it is on behalf of the people! >> reporter: they were ousted by members of the republican-dominated state house for disorderly behavior when they led protesters in chants against gun violence on the house floor following the nashville school shooting that killed six, including three children. >> these young people were silenced for standing and calling for commonsense gun laws after a mass shooting. they're not being heard. our districts are being silenced. this is attacking democracy on

so many levels. >> reporter: a motion to expel a third democrat, gloria johnson, narrowly failed. asked why she thinks she was spared? >> it might have to do with the color of our skin. >> reporter: state house republicans deny that claim. >> our members literally didn't look at the ethnicity of the members up for expulsion. >> reporter: members of the tennessee black caucus saying their colleagues were unfairly prosecuted. >> welcome to tennessee. where there's a pattern of racism that has permeated these halls that we walk through. >> reporter: tennessee house members have only voted to expel their elected colleagues three other times since the civil war, and never for a rules violation. the expelled lawmakers may not be gone for long. they can be temporarily appointed by bodies in their home districts until voters have a say again in a special election. already a majority of nashville councilmembers have said they

this month. a court has rejected an effort to delay the start of the prison term pending the outcome of his appeal. balwani was convicted in december for defrauding theranos investors and patients but avoided prison in march by filing an appeal. now a judge says he'll still have to report to prison, start his sentence during this entire appeal process. a leisure for balwani has proposed a start date of april 20th, about two weeks from now. he's facing more than 12 years in prison. former theranos ceo, elizabeth holmes, is starting her prison sentence later this month a april 27th. take me out to the ball game. a live look at oracle park where giants play their home opener today. the fans have cleared out, seagulls have moved in. the rain let up in time for the first pitch. fans say with dear not keep them away as the team faced off against kansas city. the giants faithful not only

we are learning about another break-in at a cannabis dispensary in san francisco. it comes just one day after cannabis leaders held a news

conference calling for more security at their facilities. take a look at this surveillance video. it happened around 2:30 this morning on 13th street near van ness. a vehicle rammed into the building at one point. police arrived a short time later after the break-in began, but they have not yet said if anyone was arrested. fallout from the shutdown of salmon season continues to plague the bay area. local politicians and fishermen held a news conference at scoma pier in san francisco. they discussed the efforts to receive federal disaster relief. fishermen said they can deal with most disasters that come their way, but a lack is fish is way above their capabilities to solve. former speaker of the house nancy pelosi agrees and wants that relief asap. >> this is a big economic issue. let me just say this. when this -- '08 when this happened before, money came,

disaster assistance. we want it to come faster. >> pelosi referenced 2008, the onlyther time in history regulators shut down an entire salmon fishing season due to the low number of fish. those regulators are blaming that low fish count on the drought. a unique way, a unique camp under way in the east bay. students are spending their spring break at lawrence berkeley national lab. 22 bilingual students from 13 cities and 20 schools in the bay area are participating in the science in action, to get spanish-speaking students interested in careers in s.t.e.m. science, technology, engineering, math. over four days, students get to tour the lab, have career talks with scientists, and do workshops at berkeley lab and uc berkeley. >> the career panels have latinos and latinas saying how

robo games runs through sunday night at alameda county fairgrounds. let's talk about our holiday weekend, looking pretty good. >> the weather is going to improve and get warmer. today a little drizzly. we'll get one more of these days tomorrow, then big changes as we head towards sunday. one more day of morning drizzle, and now highs into the 70s by the time we get into sunday, monday. outside right now, still a lot of low clouds around the bay area. as you can see, we've got some cloudy skies. the mist is starting to move out of the bay area. 56 degrees in san francisco. san rafael, a few sunny breaks at times, 61 currently. over towards walnut creek, gloomy at 59. and san jose, 62 degrees. we should see temperatures about 10 to 15 degrees warmer than today's highs at least for the

valleys by the end of the weekend. rain totals inland, not a lot, mostly mist and drizzle. thanks to mountains in marin county, coastal mountains in sonoma county, and santa cruz mountains, that added lift to that moisture and dropped about .5 inches of rain around boulder creek, mill valley, santa rosa, calistoga. inland, without that lifting motion that the mountains provide, enough to wet the ground around san jose and livermore. we might see more tonight into tomorrow morning as the cloud cover continues to spill over the bay area. the future cast, at least through midday tomorrow, keeps a slight chance of a few sprinkles, especially around the coastal mountains. partly cloudy skies moving forward into the afternoon. so a little bit of drizzle. more cloud cover at least to start saturday morning. it will be different on sunday. we begin to see more sunshine and more clearing tomorrow as temperatures start to climb up a little bit into the upper 60s around san jose and mid-60s around the tri-valley.

then as we get more clearing and high pressure builds for sunday, rain chances move farther to the north. up towards oregon, by the end of easter sunday, that leads to temperatures, look at this. mid-70s inland. for most valleys, 70s for sunday. bayside, san francisco, san mateo, the coast seeing mid-60s. we should see another day of 70-degree temperatures on monday. you see that there. areas south of san jose may see a few mid to upper 70s down around morgan hill and gilroy. still in the 60s around san francisco and oakland. you see these 70s and think maybe it's time to pack away the winter clothes? not so fast. as we get towards tuesday and wednes we'll see a colder weather system dropping into california. cold enough around the cascades and sierra, we'll likely get a bit of snow at times. the temperatures are going to cool down. right now, it doesn't look like a lot of ra, maybe a few showers wednesday. that will lead to temperatures cooling after this warm finish to the weekend ahead.

a shooting in san leandro leaves police with questions outside a home depot around 9:30 this morning. when officers got there, they didn't find anyone involved. later, a hospital reported it was treating a man with a gunshot wound. police now believe that man was involved in the shooting at the home depot this morning. fortunately that man is expected to survive. san leadro police trying to figure out what happened. new information tonight on the death of rapper coolio. last fall, he was found unresponsive at his friend's home in los angeles. now the los angeles county coroner's office says the cause of death was an accidental fentanyl overdose. the medical examiner says fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine contributed to his death. the medical examiner also found coolio had a heart disease that can make it harder for the heart to pump blood to the body. coolio was known for songs like "gangster's paradise," "fantastic voyage."
