>> brendan: 11-5 in overtime in his career. his last playoff game in 2017 and lost in double overtime when he was with ottawa. on the other side, tuukka rask, 12-11. here's pastrnak right away with a shot blocked by orlov. give away, marchand. it's raffl. sheary up ice across the line. last year in the playoffs there were 28 games that required extra time including the round robin games that started things off for the higher ranked teams. so far in 2021 we have gone the extra session here in washington, d.c. lars eller hangs onto it. want to know if anyone goes all the way down. >> keith: looks like an early chance for pastrnak.

those are plays too, right? a smart play to be to throw it. if you open up that stick up and the 5-hole, rask made a great call on. something you want to make sure you're 100%. i weighed myself and boston will regroup. tuukka rask only one won game in the bubble before he had to leave the team for family reasons. that tipped the net and now back up to it. that was a 2-1 overtime game that he won against the carolina hurricanes. here's wilson. oshie from out high and he scores!

t.j. oshie and the caps take game one! >> keith: that's what it feels like to lose a playoff game in overtime and that's how you feel when you win it. brendan dillon made a tremendous block that allowed the washington capitols to exit the zone. craig anderson picks up the win. capitals take up the puck. wilson gets the puck over the line before anybody else gets there. looks like a tip-in front, possibly by doud on the shot by oshie. quick release from oshie. there's the stick in front. drops the puck down and through rask for the overtime winner.

>> brian: that gets deflected in front. that's got to be doud's goal. from what i see. hold on. the lines men are getting the head set on. the entire boston bruins bench has stayed with the exception of tuukka rask who immediately -- >> referee: the play is under review for off side prior to the goal. >> brendan: this is not challengeable in overtime but initiated by the national hockey league. >> keith: it was wilson carrying the puck. he has to clearly take it into the zone, meaning entirely over the blue line before any other member of the capitals enters the zone. watch where the puck is for wilson and does he get it over the line? looks like he does on that angle. unless there's somebody on the far side.

you come into the game with your game plan. they have their game plan and a lot of times it's who sticks with it the longest. >> brian: you lose your starting goaltender. talk about the play of craig anderson to step in and do a job. why was he able to do that? >> he's a great goaltender. he came in, obviously got a lot of experience and i think just not knowing he was going to come in, coming in, i think he was pretty calm back there for us. made a couple of big saves for us and put the bench at ease. he did a fantastic job. first star. >> initially we gave you credit for the game-winning goal. you can tell us whether or not nick dowd tipped it. can you describe what you saw in that play, how the play developed and led to the game-winning goal. >> i hope dowd scored. he's having a hell of a year. i'm not sure if it was krejci or who was in front of me. i tried to hit it as hard as i

israel. groups led that rally at 16th and valencia upset at what they see bias support of israel while palestinians suffer. >> as americans, as world citizens we should all be concerned about oppression anywhere, about war crimes taking place in palestine right now. >> after the rally the group took to the streets waving flags and carrying signs. the crowd stretched for several blocks. the situation in the middle east is escalating. an high-rise building. israel claimed that hamas was operating inside and it accused the militant group as using journalists as human shields. earlier today the owner of the

building got a call from the israeli military saying that the property would be hit. journalists went across the street to film the destruction. >> we narrowly escaped a huge loss of life. we had 12 journalists in that building and those brave journalists not only were able to get out but salvage much of the equipment because it's pompbt that we continue to tell this story. >> the strike was just one of a number that israel has carried out in the last 24 hours. on the palestinian side 140 people have been killed in this latest violence. on the israeli side nine people dead. >> president biden spoke with leaders about the escalating violence on a phone call with israeli prime minister netanyahu the president again expressed the support of self defense against rocket attacks from terrorist groups and raised

concerns of civilian deaths and spoke with palestinian author president abbas and extended support to enjoy the dignity, security and freedom and economic opportunity they deserve. >> you can find the latest on the website. mounting confusion across the bay area after the cdc's new guidance that people that are fully vaccinated can ditch the masks in most settings. at least 55% of the u.s. population received a dose of the vaccine. according to the cdc tonight at least 19 states have changed the mask mandate because of the guidance. california is not one of them. >> adding to confusioning businesses like starbucks saying that masks would be required only to reverse course in 24 hours making them optional for

fully vaccinated people. when will we hear from california on the updated guidance? let's bring in our reporter live in morgan hill. mary anne? >> i'm here at trader joe's that announced that it would no longer require fully vaccinated customers to wear a mask. however, that change has not gone into effect yet because it is up to each individual county in the state to make the call. right now all of the counties are waiting for california, the state, to make a decision. some shoppers say that they cannot wait to go maskless in stores while others say they plan to keep the mask on because they just felt it was too soon to go without it. still others are waiting for guidance from california which still has not said if it will mirror the cdc's new recommendations. >> just reflects how northern

california feels about masks which is always more conservative than the rest of the country and whether or not they'll sort of take the recommendations carte blanche or finesse the recommendations remains to be seen. >> reporter: usf infectious specialist says for most healthy fully vaccinated people it appears to be safe to be in a store without a mask because research shows that those vaccinated don't tepid to get the disease and don't transmit it to others but says individuals need to make their own decisions based on their risk, especially if they're immui no compromised and you may not be absolutely sure that the people in the store truly are vaccinated because after all it is based on the honor system and no one at the front door that's

checking to look for proof that you truly have been vaccinated. so something to keep in mind. reporting live in morgan hill, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. as leaders weigh the mandate how vaccinated is the bay area? this map right here shows you the percentage of people with at least one shot. marin county has the most with 86% of its population partially vaccinated. most of the other counties above 70%. here's the percent fully vaccinated. marin the most with 73% fully vaccinated. the other counties all in dark green that means they have more than 50% vaccinated. >> here's an idea to help get tough to reach people vaccinated. a site in san francisco visitation valley neighborhood is now open on saturdays.

evacuate. no injuries reported yet. let's check in with meteorologist rob majeda on what to expect. >> to the north and west of down on the los angeles, cool temperatures, high humidity but very dry hillsides and that's the fire fuel there allowing that fire to flare up within the last hour or so. notice the temperatures around the bay area cool. seeing the sea breeze out there. temperatures in the 50s. humidity looks good but like southern california the bay area hillsides summer dry and so with the winds we continue to see elevated fire danger. a chance of lightning sparked fires. watching the showers. some in lake county. we might see isolated showers from the weakening storms over

solidarity and self protection and then marched downtown. >> what do we want? >> unity. >> when do we want it? >> no. >> in oakland, christie smith, nbc bay area news. >> rallies across the nation today calling for an end to anti-asian violence. this is outside the state capitol building. organizers of this actions say they want to raise awareness of the verbal and physical violence . the reporting forum said they received more reports of more than 2,800 anti-asian incident bs in march alone. in new york city a banner read unity against hate. whistles were handed out to encourage those that feel threatened to use them. the idea is potential victims can sound the alarm. the primary settings for acts of discrimination have shifted from businesses to streets and parks. the highest number of reported

incidents from california and new york. two homicides in san francisco both today and taking hours apart in the same area. first happened about 10:00 this morning. a man shot and pronounced dead at the hospital and then a second shooting. two people shot. one later pronounced dead. the second is treated at the hospital for life threatening injuries. anyone with information asked to call the police tip line. we'll show you a family who made their trip to get the vaccine a family affair. after a year it's back open. where you can take your kids for a fun day tomorrow.

clinic this morning. they had their brother along as well. they had just missed the cutoff for pfizer's vaccine until last week when it was approved for 12 to 15-year-olds. the doctor is granted vaccine by the county due to the high number of volunteers she recruited. the family will be back in three weeks for their second dose. the monterey bay aquarium is back open to the public for the first time in more than a year. the aquarium closed in march of 2020. one week before california issued the first shelter in place order. from blue whales to jellyfish see them all there. animal lovers excited to be back. >> i'm super excited to be able to go back in because i actually want to be a marine bile gist so this is cool and can't wait to see the penguins because they're my favorite animals.

>> a place to take your children or your child. you know? darius would love it. >> he would. >> go to the aquarium. don't just rush down there. reserve the time online. big step this weekend. muni bringing back service today. this is the first time since last august. new bus rooutds debuted with upgraded wi-fi service and the f line, the beautiful f line from the castro is back up and running again. taking bart you might experience some delay just the transit service began work today between the south hay ward and union city stations. part of the track shut down for crews to replace parts of that track. some have been in use nearly 50 years. since 1972. bart will offer free shuttle buses to bridge passengers. expect to add 20 to 25 minutes to the trip. the work will take place in

october. ski season at squaw valley going out with a bang. the popular ski resort closed early for the day because of lightning strikes in the area. video taken from the squaw valley cam. see it's cloudy? snowy, slushy up there. the final weekend of the season. tomorrow's forecast not looking that good if you think about going up there to get in some skiing, rob, right? >> watching the thunderstorms in the sierra drifting to the west at times and bring a slight chance of a few showers closer to the bay area overnight. it is the drizzle storm that continues and the coast and san francisco. chilly 66 degrees. a good taste of that sea breeze throughout the day today and san jose low 60s. jacket weather but the interesting part of the forecast could be more drizzle and maybe a slight chance of showers. air quality is not a problem

this weekend. thanks to that strong sea breeze. pollen still an issue. olive and oak. grasses coming down a little bit. so we got some low clouds on the coast but notice coming in from the north and east showers that are weakening on approach. what's left will clip the north and east bay and we won't rule out showers up around napa county overnight and then stories shifting back to the drizzle storm. and a cool and breezy finish to your weekend. tomorrow morning waking up to 50s. mist and drizzle again and then for the afternoon inland seeing the clearing skies and not much clearing on the coast. see san francisco near 60. 71 in san jose. and north bay temperatures a combination of upper 60s and low

80s. the best chance for thunderstorms tomorrow you heard the story on the ski resorts, towards yosemite and the showers more towards the south and east and then temperatures may climb on tuesday. pretty interesting in the long range forecast. upper level systems moving through. may not get measurable rain but reinforce the onshore wind at times. so cooler than average temperatures here to wrap up the weekend and possibly all the way to next weekend and this is good news considering the fire danger, the lightning strikes can be a problem but the storms that are in the long range forecast are still producing at least some rain and possibly some high elevation snow at times. overall good news. the hillside's dry but the humidity levels are up and chances of showers in the mountains. around san francisco cool and
