on this monday after thanksgiving, millions are still traversing the highways and byways as mother nature puts a damper on travel around the nation. president trump tweeting up a storm overnight after hundreds of migrants desperate for entry into the u.s. rushed the border. new developments this morning. the government's report on climate change released on friday. did you miss it? many did, but we've got you covered. today's cyber monday. we'll show you some of the biggest and best deals on the internet. nasa is on pins and needles right this very moment as they anxiously await today's mars landing oft spacecraft. and find out why harry and meghan are packing up all their stuff today. >> good to be back with you this monday. i'm frances rivera. >> good to have you back. i'm philip mena. as 50 million americans tried to head home this weekend, a winter storm snarled travel, wreaking havoc from the great plains to the great lakes. more than 1,000 flights were canceled between chicago o'hare and kansas city yesterday. major airlines like american, delta, united, and spirit are waving their change fees for people willing to travel later this week. but the storm isn't just causing headaches at the airport. the roads have been especially treacherous for drivers. >> it is very bad conditions. in my 19 years as a trooper, this might be the top five i've ever seen across kansas and this area. >> one of the hardest hit, kansas. the governor issued a state of disaster emergency, urging people to stay home. the whiteout conditions forced several roads to close down for hours. some drivers in colorado found themselves caught up in a massive 20-vehicle pileup. this was in frisco near denver. that line of cars, suvs, and at least one semi truck were involved.

luckily, though, no one was hurt. and on the east coast, the delaware memorial bridge has reopened after it was forced to close because of a gas leak. hundreds of drivers were trapped in both directions. the bridge was closed for five hours last night. the cause of the leak is under investigation. today we mourn the loss of oscar award-winning italian filmmaker bernardo bertolucci, known for films like "the last tango in paris" starring marlon brandon and "the last emperor." he began his career in italy in the early '60s and became an influential director. "the last emperor" won a whopping nine oscars, including best picture and best director. in 2008, he received a star on the hollywood walk of fame. his publicist confirmed he lost his battle with cancer. he passed away inside his home in rome. bernardo bertolucci was 77 years old. the united nations will hold an emergency security council meeting this morning amid a new military confrontation between russia and ukraine. the ukrainian navy says russian

special forces fired on three of its ships in the black sea, injuring at least six sailors off the coast of crimea. russian officials confirmed that they have seized three ukrainian ships they claim trespassed into russian waters illegally. ambassador nikki haley announced the meeting on twitter. the incident could ignite a new crisis between the two countries, where tensions have simmered since russia annexed crimea in 2013. nato urges restraint and calls on russia to de-escalate the situation. clashes near the southern border of tijuana. u.s. border agents fired tear gas on migrants who tried to illegally cross into the country, prompting officials to shut down the official port of entry there. some witnesses say children were heard screaming and coughing in the mayhem. though customs and border patrol says no injuries were reported. president trump tweeting this morning "mexico should move the flag-waving migrants, many of whom are stone-cold criminals,

sentenced in robert mueller's election investigation. president trump submitted written answers to mueller last week as the probe continues. >> i think the report is going to be devastating to the president, and i know that the president seems already working on a response to the report. >> reporter: but dershowitz, a frequent trump supporter, believes the harm will be political, not criminal, this as several lawmakers express concern that mueller's investigation could be jeopardized by acting attorney general matthew whitaker. >> this is someone who has publicly said that he thinks you could starve the investigation so he could try to do that by cutting down on the money for it. >> reporter: house republicans, meanwhile, are still trying to get former fbi director james comey to testify behind closed doors. comey, who was subpoenaed last week, says he'll only agree to an open hearing, fearing republicans could selectively leak his testimony. >> i don't get a chance to say this very often, but i do think jim comey is right. leaks are counterproductive, whether jim comey's doing it, whether the fbi's doing it, or

whether congress is doing it. >> reporter: no word on when the mueller investigation will wrap up. the president has repeatedly called it a witch hunt. jennifer johnson, nbc news, washington. tens of thousands of protesters flooded the streets of europe this weekend in a march to end violence against women. massive movements were held in turkey, france, and spain. sunday marked the beginning of the 16-day campaign created by the united nations. in madrid, the demonstrations ended with a reading of the names of the 44 women killed by violence this year. in a move of solidarity, the european parliament president antonio taeanie smeared red makeup under his eye during the brexit summit. according to the u.n., violence against women will affect more than a third of women globally during their lifetime. a florida man is in custody, accused of shooting a man during a fight on a public bus over the weekend. michael porter is charged with attempted premeditated murder. police in plantation released surveillance video of the violent struggle. investigators say porter shot
