into two. hewlett packard announcing a split. the separation is due to take place over the next year. >> scary moments in walmart when an alleged shoot are opened fire. nanette miranda is live outside that store. what happens the latest? >> reporter: indeed some very scary moments for shoppers here on davis street in san leandro when shoppers had to take cover. this happened around midnight when loss prevention workers confronted shoplifters. one estimate is that the suspect

managed to fire eight rounds, sending shoppers and employees into chaos. loss prevention grabbed the gunman's arm to stop the shooting and probably saved lives. no one was hurt but a lot of rattled nerves. >> i was in the back just shopping, being helped by one of the workers and suddenly we just heard the gunshot and heard people screaming and we headed toward the back and ended up in the back room. eventually we were safe in the back room of the walmart. >> police say two suspects were arrested. one of them suffered minor injuries and was it and to a local hospital. investigators were able to look at video taken by a number of surveillance cameras inside the store. cops are confident that the two suspects were the only two injured. back live in san leandro where

we see a couple of women there waiting to talk to some officers. again, no one hurt as alleged shoplifters opened fire inside a walmart here in san leandro. >> thank you very much, nanette. >> a new video of the damage left behind after a fire. arson investigators were called to the scene. they're going through surveillance video. it is unclear if the fire started in the wine shop. but businesses on either side were also damaged. >> two men are under arrest for

assault of two victims in the bathroom. two men were arrested for felony assault. the attack happened with more than 68,000 fans in the stadium. >> now to a developing story. an nbc freelance cameraman is on his way home after contracting ebola. ashoka mukpo tested positive thursday and was quarantined immediately. >> for the rest of the nbc team, including dr. nancy snyderman, she will also be quarantined in the u.s. for about three weeks. >> doctors said thomas eric

duncan is now considered to be in critical condition. he went undiagnosed for several days and was hospitalized one week ago. health experts are monitoring a handful of people that duncan came into close contact with. none thus far have symptoms of ebola. >> election day is five weeks away. one of the most talked about races in the country is in our own back yard. the reason this race is so notable is because a democrat versus democrat in the race for the 17th district. kannah is described as a new

democrat. people from around the nation are keeping tabs on this case. >> rokanna comes in with a lot of technology support, throwing a lot of money at his campaign, mike konda has a lot of support from organized labor, work being class people, if you will. all of that is embedded in this one district. >> he says voter turnout will be much higher than in june so the influx of new voters may be undecided. both candidates will reach in their one and only debate tonight. we'll air that debate live right here. the event starts at 6:30. if you have a question for the candidates, head to our web site to our facebook page to post your question. might have to stay up for that

and, yes, 6:30 is staying up when you're on this schedule. >> santa clara county has decided to close down the civil, small claims and palo alto court. a statement says the court system has been dealing with significant budget cuts since 2009 and no longer financially feasible to keep the courthouses in palo alto and morgan hill open. people will small claims, use will be seen at the downtown san jose located at 191 north first street. court appearances will be held at the santa clara courthouse at 1095 homestead road in santa clara. >> a live look at at&t park this morning.

later this week on consumer credit and prices. the nasdaq up 45 to 4473. and facebook has reportedly created a prototype feature for its messenger app to allow mobile payments and money transfers. users can add a debit card or use what they have on file on facebook but that the system isn't expected to arrive any time soon. >> happening right now, tokyo has taken a direct hit from a large and powerful typhoon. it dumped almost two feet of water on japan this morning. the airports have suspended hundreds of flights. three u.s. servicemen were swept away by high waves in okinawa. one has been found deceased, two others are still missing. the storm forced a suspense of
