6:00 pm
hi, everybody. i'm beth troutman. we've got great videos from the web, right here, "right this minute." it's a fitting tribute to a young gear head. >> who was 19 years old. he recently died of leukemia. >> the story behind the burnout that helped a community say good-bye. >> take it out of my hand. >> if you offer new yorkers a dollar. >> how many people will take it? >> the surprising freebie they'd rather have instead. >> that plane is going down. but this is not -- >> what you think. >> a plane crash looks like. >> the strange sight that left witnesses stunned.
6:01 pm
plus, see h to win and how a s his mother happy. >> mom going to fix your laptop. >> what happens when the big fix is a big disaster. >> what do you think of that? >> is this a funeral procession? there's a limo behind the truck. was this one of the wishes of the person being buried? >> you got it. this is a funeral procession for jordan levi. he was 19 years old. he recently died of leukemia. jordan was a huge fan of diesel trucks. he loved to see the big black soot out of the exhaust pipes. he loved laying burnouts on the road and thought that his friend lee's truck was one of the nicest trucks he had ever seen. instead of using a hearse the family used lee's truck.
6:02 pm
lee took jordan for one last ride. with the blessing of the sheriff you see next to this truck, put up a nice burnout in honor of jordan. >> this is so beautiful. it makes me so sad, but how beautiful that his community came together to give him this last awesome burnout. >> how emotional that must have been for his friend behind the wheel of the truck to know he was carrying out the last wish and taking his good buddy on that last ride, like there's so much heartbreak there, but it's such a beautiful tribute. >> big old knot because you know how big and powerful that moment is. >> sad moment, but also very touching beautiful moment too in the form of burnt rubber. true tribute to a gear head. >> a plane crash caught on camera in the blue mountains near australia. this plane crash does not look like what you think a plane cash looks like the guy behind the
6:03 pm
camera is doug turner. see the parachute in the air. that parachute is bringing down the airplane. >> yeah. >> safely. now, reports say this is a cessna-like airplane so it's a lightweight airplane, but witnesses said they heard the engine sputter, the engine then explode, and then suddenly, the pilot deploys his parachute at about 4,000 feet toward a neighborhood. >> oh, my gosh. it's so weird to see it so slowly just glide right on down. >> in fact, this plane did float down into a neighborhood, but miraculously, it missed all the homes, landed in a front yard, the parachute got tangled up in some live power wires. >> it could have been an aircraft that comes with built-in parachutes and looks similar. >> i've seen that type of technology. it's recent but i've never seen it in use. see the hatch behind the rear window of the plane. that's where that parachute pops
6:04 pm
out of. that's awesome. >> it's shocking to see it, right? because your brain isn't used to that idea. there were three passengers on board this plane. all landed safely. only minor injuries. but they walked away from this. they were on hand to talk to witnesses. >> it was frightening. it just went and like you see in world war ii, the plane, went into a spiral, probably couple hundred feet and leveled out. i said to my wife in the house, get out, there's a plane. i yelled out as loud as i could. >> i think every plane should have them. >> can we get parachutes on 787s? >> looks like these days pranks are becoming synonymous with social experiments. >> today we're going to be going around new york city giving away a free dollar bill. >> here's one from model prankster. >> it's free. no catch. see what they do. >> how many people will take it? >> would you like one? no catch at all. >> yeah. not much in this life that's free, though. >> free dollar. no catch.
6:05 pm
just take it out of my hand. >> people basically ignore him, write him off, because what's the catch. there's got to be something. >> in new york cities there's so much noise, so many people trying to sell you stuff, pass stuff back. you tune it out to get where you want to go. >> really? >> what do you mean really? >> why are you giving away a dollar? >> giving them out for free. >> some stop and ask really, you're giving free dollars. but still walk away. people are afraid the dollar will cost them more. >> they're afraid it's going to cost their time. stand there and listen to a hitch for some product or item and not get away. >> one person took the dollar. >> free dollar bills. >> yes! >> this is the second part of the social experiment. >> now we're going to change it up a little. giving out free information, a blank piece of white paper. >> he's saying free information and people are taking the papers left and right. >> free info, guys. >> look at the boy. he's like -- look at him. >> he gave out $1 bill in two
6:06 pm
hours. came to the papers in 15 minutes we got rid of every paper. >> feel like you owe them something if you take a buck. take information you keep going. you don't have to stop. >> you know what it means actually. it means we don't trust each other anymore. we don't trust that it's just a free dollar. >> this dollar wasn't free. because you're part of a video. >> you also have to wonder had this experiment been done somewhere else, maybe a smaller town, if it would have been different. people would have actually taken the dollar. >> hey, everybody. it's time to give away another ipad mini. >> i'm sure you're going to need a buzzword and a twitter account but don't worry, it's easy to create one. >> the buzzword is coming up in a little bit. you have to be at least 18 years old and a u.s. resident to enter. >> standby for the "rtm" ipad mini giveaway. >> the russian translation for the video is called "we drive" because the person who shot this video probably wet their pants. a person driving down the road. even though all the white lines
6:07 pm
are going in one direction, this person is not driving the wrong way on the freeway. that's not the issue here. this is a russian roadway, but watch what happens when the big rig comes into view. >> oh, yeah. >> what is that? >> oh, my gosh. >> those are those giant like -- pieces to a bridge or something. >> the load became unhinged and like a scene out of the movie, the steel beams come rushing toward the guy and his passenger. >> if you're transporting steel beams, don't you have a backup system, like if one hinge goes three more holding these steel beams. >> that shouldn't happen. >> this guy and his passenger were not hurt. didn't fall on them or anything. >> but i bet their life flashed before their eyes if that moment. that was very scary. >> meanwhile, onn romania, there's a police officer. he's on his bike and a bike kind of rolls over on his side. the officer didn't have it set
6:08 pm
so all these people on bicycles come, get off their bikes and come over and help the motorcycle cop out. >> that guy has not been properly trained. there's a method to pick up a heavy bike like that. he'll never lift that bike. >> and never have any respect. embarrassing for him as a police officer. >> think about it, how embarrassing is a guy in a motorcycle that the guys on the bicycle have to help him out. we can jump off no problem. >> that guy has to go back into training. >> it's all cheers for this soccer game until. >> in walks granny. >> find out what knocks her off her rocker. and a couple of guys hop a wall to -- >> get to the door to a stock room. >> why what's inside leaves them less than satisfied.
6:09 pm
6:10 pm
6:11 pm
when thieves have their eye on the prize they can stop at nothi nothing. looks like this is at a playground. see a person dressed in black walking around and a few minutes later that same person walks back, disappears from the view of the camera, and then you see another man, this is an elderly plan with vision problems walking into frame and then watch what happens. >> come on. yeah, that thief grabs the man's necklace, ripped it off, sends the man falling on his back and just take office.
6:12 pm
toronto police hoping someone recognizes anything about this thief from this video. it's going to be a hard one. >> what a horrible human being. >> yeah. >> going after a guy with vision problems. just to get a couple of ounces of gold or silver? >> it's such a scumbag move. >> and these thieves must be after something very, very valuable because they go through a lot of trouble to get into the store. this is in the uk. you see one of the burglars jump over a wall and then opens the door for the second burglar. they finally get to the door to a stock room and after looking around, they find a crowbar which they use to break into the door. they turn lights on and then they look around and they realize, there's really nothing in here for us to take. >> they look straight at the cameras a number of times. hopefully someone recognizes them. politely they end up turning the lights back out and walk out. >> they wanted to save energy.
6:13 pm
that's good. >> you may not know, but anybody can play a little rock and roll. >> get some rhythm, guys. >> this is near butte, montana. park called the ringing rock. pretty cool natural phenomenon. basically the pile of rocks creating sort of like a bell. people take a hammer, go up on to the pile, and each individual rock has a different tone. >> especially high. ♪ >> what happens when you hit any rock, you would have to do. >> no, this is a unique phenomenon. here's why. >> the reason that these rocks ring is not really because of what they're made of. there's so much space underneath them and everything it's like a bell, almost like it's hollow underneath and it vibrates and rings. >> if you move the rox away from here they don't ring. >> i think we can do this. i think we can do this.
6:14 pm
>> somebody like digging in the backyard. >> it sounds like it. >> write. >> >> have the space underneath created bay lot of erosion. took the dirt away. that's what gave them the hollow sound. interactive nature. take the kids out there. >> i would like to see a drummer, famous rock drummer go up and like figure out, you know, this will be my base drum, this and that, and then like really rock it out on the rock. >> you would lerally be a rock drummer. >> yeah. >> it is a well-knownac arnd that soccer fans are intense. they get into their soccer or i should say football because we're now talking about the english premier league. >> [ bleep ]. [ bleep ].
6:15 pm
>> what were they -- were they cheering for the opposition? >> no, they were not cheering for the opposition. they pretended that her team scored a goal. >> oh, my gosh. >> which, as you know, never happens in soccer. people hardly ever score. >> and she came in and looked at the television. realized they were pranking her. >> no. >> and she lost it. >> [ bleep ]. >> do you blame her? she was celebrating, ready to cheer, and then realized they're messing with her. >> i think they took a year or two off of granny's life with that prank. >> [ bleep ]. >> so fast it will have you asking -- >> what the heck is that? >> hear all about the little legged robot you can now own.
