thanks for joining us and we'll see you for the next edition of "right this minute." now, at 7:00, new video of the moments just after touchdown for a young stowaway who wound up in hawaii. a minor warmup is in store for wednesday. i'm tracking your neighborhood numbers coming up. all of a sunday, i heard a bunch of gunshots. >> neighbors describe tense moments in an apparent road rage incident. the dramatic altercation that left one man hospitalize and had police searching for at least one gunman. ktvu channel 2 news at 7:00 is next. >> complete bay area news court and coverage starts right now. gunshots in a quiet south bay neighborhood sends police rushing to the scene. i'm gasia mikaelian. good evening to you. happening now, authorities in the south bay are searching for at least two men after a violent

incident that may have been triggered by road rage. police say a man in his 40s was shot and seriously hurt after an argument with people in another car. someone from that other car opened fire through an open window. police swarmed the neighborhood disrupting traffic there for four hours. as ktvu robert honda reports, seemingly random act of violence has residents shaken up. >> san jose police investigators searched the toyota camry looking for clues to why the driver got shot during what appeared to be a road rage situation. police say it started around 10:30 this morning when the driver pulled out of a mobile home park onto center road and nearly collided with two young men in a silver volkswagon jetta. during the argument, one shot the man. a woman in her home heard it happening. >> i heard a bunch of screeching coming over here. all of a sudden, i heard a bunch of gunshots, and that's when i ran out of the house. >> you came out. what did you see? >> i saw somebody leaving.

>> another neighbor said he thought a pedestrian had been hit until police swarmed the area. >> it was -- it got crazy. i saw the guy laying on the ground rolling left and right. >> police say they believe the two men and the victim are strangers, and that the victim got out of his camry to continue the argument. >> the suspects never got out of their vehicle. the passenger fired from inside their vehicle in the direction of the victim. the victim was hit more than one time. he fell to the ground, and our suspects fled southbound in their vehicle. >> people in this neighborhood say they see a lot of near misses at this intersection, and many road rage arguments, but they say it is still shocking to see one escalate into gunfire. >> kind of shaky, you know, because it's -- it's scary. i don't know, you know, it could be my neighbor for all i know. >> police say the victim is expected to survive. officers are still searching for the young men in the silver jetta. in san jose, robert honda, ktvu channel 2 news. >> tonight we're getting a revealing look at what happened in the moments after a hawaiin

airlines airplane landed in maui last month with a south bay teen stowaway tucked into the jet liner's wheel well. sdpr the hawaii department of transportation released this surveillance video today. if you look closely, on the center left of your screen next to the engine, you can see two legs dangling down from the plane, and then the teen jumps down on to the ground. after he drops to the tarmac, you don't see much, but the teen then emerges and appears to be stumbling around a bit, perhaps getting his bearings. there's no sign of any airport officials around him, and then he disappears off screen. about a minute later, you see what appears to be the teen making contact with an airport worker. >> that 15-year-old has been flown back to the bay areas and currently under the care of child protective services in santa clara county. it's the end of the line for golden state warriors coach mark jackson. he was fired today, just days after the team lost the playoff series to the l. a. clippers. throughout the league, the warriors are regarded as a talented team on the rise, and

in a league of superstars with superegos, jackson was known for getting his players to function as a team. but today, the general manager defended his decision. >> we felt like we looked at in aggregate, and it wasn't necessarily friction or one thing or any other thing specifically. it was about what is the best thing for us to do moving forward as an organization. with wing in mind, we felt, like i said, in its totality, this was the right decision for us. >> the gm said he doesn't expect any backlash from players, even though they made it no secret they were in support of jackson. on twitter, mark jackson aufrd thanks to his players saying, "we accomplished a lot together. i wish you nothing but the best. god bless." if social media is any indication here, warriors fans were not supportive of the decision. in downtown oakland, there was no one we could find who agreed with jackson's firing. >> look what he did. he took him three years. why would they get rid of him? that's my only question. three years, and you're still going to get rid of the guy?

>> very disappointed. very disappointed. what more do you want? this guy has taken the team to the playoffs two-straight years. >> on facebook, fans unloaded on the team with a lot of comments we can't show you on the air. on twitter, the warriors and mark jackson are both trending with thousands of comments coming into our news room via social media. new details tonight on a hotel incident that left san francisco star quarterback answering a lot of questions. >> was she fully naked on the bed? >> yes. >> those are new 911 recordings shedding light on the night in the miami hotel that got colin capper nishg's name listed on a police report. kaepernick and two other football players reportedly partied with the unidentified woman last month. as ktvu woodrow reports, kaepernick's friend made that call after he said the woman wouldn't leave. >> the 911 call is at times bizarre. sgli asked her what her name was. she said my name was jesus.

>> the caller said a naked woman wouldn't leave a miami hee tole room. she was there to see san francisco 49ers star quarterback colin kaepernick. >> we have a visitor, but she won't leave. we want her to leave, but she's refusing to leave. >> according to a police report in early april, kaepernick and friends were partying with the woman at the hotel. the woman told police kaepernick undressed her, then went away, but kaepernick's friend said he wasn't in the room. >> we asked her to leave, told her he won't be here tonight. she says she's not leaving until she sees him. >> after waking up in the hospital, the woman told police she didn't know how she got there. she also told police there was alcohol and marijuana in the room, that she had to hit the bong if she wanted a shot of alcohol. the miami fire department later confirmed thaw took the woman to the fire department after this 911 call. >> she's in the bedroom under the covers with no clothes on. she's screaming now, just crying. >> the woman told police she had a sexual relationship with capper nishg in the past, but that they did not have sex that

night. melanie woodrow, ktvu channel 2 news. >> today there were calls for the resignation of sonoma county supervisor. this was the first time that he appeared with other board members since he was found not guilty of attempted peeking of a female neighbor. although he did receive some support, most of the people that spoke today demanded he resign. he was clear he doesn't intend to go anywhere. >> those who demand that i give the office to which voters of the fifth district elected me will be disappointed. i have no intentions to resign. >> he was dmauth his underwear the night he was accused of peeking. board members say they can't force him to resign. they did vote to censure him. happening now, the berkeley city council meeting at this hour may take the first step toward arming police officers with stun guns. the council is set to vote on a study, which would look at the consequences of issuing stun guns to police. the police officer's association is in favor of the idea saying

the berkeley pd is one of only three departments in the bay area that doesn't use the devices. san jose is getting the green light on some much-needed road repair with big money paving the way for some big upgrades. ktvu's ed ruben live tonight in san jose to explain why despite a big shot in the arm, some fear the project still falls short. >> well, thanks to this new project, some places like this cracked section of santa clara street will get resurfaced, but city officials say they got a $430 million backlog of other streets that won't. they're hard to miss, bumps in the road that make driving difficult here in san jose. >> i think we all notice it's pretty obvious. they're terrible. >> but where allen really feels the impact of those roads is at work at his autorepair shop with customers complaining about damage to their shocks and struts. >> they want to know why their vehicle with 40,000 miles needs x x x repair, and it's because we live here. >> but now, some relief in some

of the worst spots. today, the city council gave the go ahead for a new project, five major roads will be resurfaced, including parts of monterey road, the alameda, and santa clara street, among others. this thanks to $12 million in federal grant money. >> 12 million is a lot of money, and we're going to get to do some great work with that 12 million. however, given the needs of the city's paechlt system, it's just a drop in the bucket. >> this money is on top of the $20 million the city gets for roads each year, however, officials say they need more like a hundred million to really get the job done. >> every year we have an $80 million short fall in funding. >> that means most residential streets remain untouched because the city can only afford to focus on major thoroughfares. still officials say with this latest project, drivers will really notice a difference. they'll begin work resurfacing 31 miles of roads in san jose this summer. >> anything is better than nothing, and it's long overdue. i'd like to see more of it. >> the city received the grant

money as part of a deal to take over some state roads. they expected the project to get underway in early july and be completed by the end of the summer. live in san jose, ann ruben, ktvu channel 2 news. there are some changes coming this year when it comes to getting people around the city during the beta breakers race. in the past, runners have been asked to pay a fee to muni for special express buses. last year, the cost was $12, but muni says other riders complained that runners weren't paying that extra fee. instead they crammed onto regular buses that only cost $2. this year, muni is eliminating that fee. that's expect today cost the agency $676,000 in revenue. developers are setting their sights on san francisco's mid market business. san francisco honda is expected to sell that building soon to an apartment developer. it's one of several plans in the works to create new housing in the area, much of it targeted at tech workers. real estate analysts say transit and this will need to be beefed

up to support the thousands of new residents developers hope to bring to that new area. a bay area animal shelter facing serious unsirnty. the meeting taking place tonight that may change its future. and tough questions at the white house today on global climate change. our chief meteorologist bill martin was there. he learned about the new plan to address that change. pleasant weather on the way for your wednesday, then clouds and the chance of showers will enter the picture. i'll pinpoint the days ahead and your bay area weekend coming up.

new video here as a chevy silverado smashed into a san jose restaurant this afternoon. take a look here at this video just came into our news room. the accident happened about 4:00 p.m. on allen rock avenue at south 33rd street. it's an area called little

portugal and is a popular restaurant that's been open for more than 30 years. the restaurant was closed at the time. there's no word of anyone seriously hurt in the accident, but it does appear that building has major damage. a $25,000 reward is being offered in connection with the tainted meat balls found in san francisco. the latest ones were found yesterday at 24th avenue and ortega in the sunset district. the dog trainer discovered the meat mixed with pills amongst some plants. police took the meat balls away to be tested. this is just the latest ins don't of tainted meat balls, and pet owners say they're worried. some dogs have gotten sick. one died last year. $23,000 of the reward comes from the ceo of yelp. pet lovers tonight gathered at oakland city hall to support a busy animal shelter some say needs to say. a recent ktvu investigation has prompted some big questions about how that facility operates. ktvu's allie rasmus reports, animal lovers say change is needed. >> he was always really good

about letting me groom him. >> this is amy bowman's 14-year-old dog princeton. >> he's pretty big, but he's really gentle actually. >> and she finds him pretty inspirational. >> he's actually kindhearted. he doesn't want trouble. he's sort of symbolic of all the work and all the good that we can do. >> bowman volunteers at the oakland animal shelter, which is where she found princeton more than a decade ago. >> 6,000 animals that come through there on an animal basis. i've seen everything from goats to boa constrictors. it's up to the shelter to figure out what to do with them. >> now, bowman and other volunteers are trying to figure out what to do about the shelter. >> this whole thing erupted off the original ktvu story about people just saying, okay, enough sh enough. this system doesn't work, and that's really what it's all about. >> last month, 2 investigates talks to current and former shelter volunteers and employees who say a lack of leadership, most staffing levels and mismanagement led to problems

like dogs being mislabeled and youth niezed by mistake. oakland police run the animal shelter. bowman and other volunteers think the shelter needs to be run by a civilian department. some city council members agree. >> the animal shelter is a mess and needs consistent leadership, and our police department is very overworked and needs to focus on fighting violent crimes. >> councilwoman rebecca kaplan propose it had legislation to take the shelter out of oakland police. a vote for that proposal is scheduled next month. >> oakland police say they are work to fill vacant positions at the shelter. we asked them what they thought about the idea of taking away shelter responsibility from the department. they would anl say they are dedicated to the future success of the shelter and will support a final decision once it is made. in oakland, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. the oakland zoo has received its first patient at its new condor recovery center. zoo veterinarians are treated a condor for lade poisoning. the bird was brought to the zoo from national park last week.

veterinarians say she'll be treated then released back into the wild there. the recovery center was created as part of ongoing efforts to restore the population of the endangered bird. there are now more than 230 california condors in the wild. office depot says it will close at least 400 stores, but it hasn't named which stores just yet. the merger of office depot and office max last year created an overlatch in some locations. about 125 stores will be closed this year, the rest by the end of 2016. the closures could save about $75 million every year. office depot has been struggling for some time as sales declined. this news sent its shares higher by as much as 20%. twitter shares, though, took a hit today falling to a new low and wiping out about $4 billion in market value. shares were down about 18%. the decline was triggered by the end of a lockup period giving employees and early investors the chance to sell stock. that came 180 days after the initial public offering. twitter's cofounders say they have no plans to sell their stock. the broader markets also fell today in part led by

twitter. dow jones dropped 129 points. nasdaq lost 57. one analyst said one problem is wages aren't increasing, and that's holding back con sierm spending. investors sold twitter stock, amazon announce add new social media partnership with twitter. the online meg store said twitter users will be able to add products to the amazon cart without leaving twitter. users have to link the two accounts then reply to a product link tweet with the hashtag amazon cart. twitter will not be getting any commission for this service, however. scientists made dire predictions today in washington where the white house delivered its national climate assessment. ktvu's own bill martin was the only meteorologist from the bay area to be invited to the white house to learn more about the report. >> i would say in historic roosevelt room in the west wing of white house, i sat down with president obama's top advisors on climate change. we discussed the administration's brand new national climate assessment, one of the most comprehensive looks ever at the hard facts about climate change. the head of the environmental

protection agency tells me we're seeing those impacts now. >> it's that climate change is no more about modelling future impacts. it's really here, and it's now, and weir living with it. >> for the bay area, that means concerns about rising sea levels, more wild fires, and more frequent droughts. white house officials tell me this climate report will give california communities the information they need to plan ahead for the future. >> so i'm going to make a ten-year investment or 50-year investment, how careful do i want to be in making sure that investment will be viable through its entire lifetime. >> one controversial move the white house is making will come next month. new regulations for all power plants nationwide. >> it's by far our biggest source of carbon pollution, about 40% is being emitted from the power sector. >> i'm meteorologist bill martin in washington dc. >> now, tomorrow night, bill's one-on-one interview with president obama. we'll have that for you tomorrow on ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 and 6:00 and then the 10:00 news. we'll even have a little preview

of high pressure will be in place. mostly sunny skies. even a tad warmer than what we had today. temperatures in the widespread 60s from the coast around the bay, and then for inland communities back into the 70s. then things change up just a little bit. we have a weak system that will move through the area. mostly cloudy on thursday. even a slight chance of showers will come our way on thursday. i'll show you what i mean if you stick with me here for the next couple of days. get into wednesday morning, we are with partly cloudy skies, but by the afternoon, mostly sunny. by wednesday night, things start to change. we wake up thursday morning, and we have mostly cloudy conditions. as i get into the afternoon here on thursday, there you see it. those popup showers there favoring, of course, northern california, maybe into the central valley, but we may see a fritz or maybe a light shower. getting on your way tomorrow morning, widespread mid 40s to low 50s inland and around the bay. toward the afternoon, just tack on a few degrees from what we had today, and you're right in the ballpark. 60s around the bay. low to mid 70s for our inland cities and then the extended forecast there showing you

exactly what we just talked about. as we get into your bay area weekend, temperatures will begin to warm, and on mother's day, low 80s in the forecast for our inland cities. mid to upper 70s around the bay. upper 60s at the coast. gasia. >> rose mary, thank you. a bay area shipyard is getting a $5 million krashth to repair one of the coast guard's largest ship. dry dock opened in january after a ship dismantler closed up shoup at that site last year. workers there will repair the polar sthar, one of the world's most powerful non-nuclear ships. it's capable of continuously breaking through 6 feet of solid ice. monica lewinsky is telling all about the scandal with president bill clinton. the lessons from that affair she says she learned that may help others. and today's special party to help celebrate one of the most prominent buildings in the east bay.

oakland's landmark city hall turned 100 today. the building was the tallest building west of the mississippi river when it was built back in 1914. mayor gene quan was on hand for

the celebration proclaiming city hall centennial day. engineers retrofitting after the 1989 earthquake will keep that building safe in a 7.0 earthquake on the hayward fault. monica lewinsky is going public with details of her affair with president bill clinton. the 40-year-old tells vanity fair she decided to come forward after the suicide of a rutgers student who was secretly captured kissing another man on a web cam. she says she hopes to help others deal with shame and humiliation. lewinsky says she regrets the affair, which happened when she was a white house intern nearly 20 years ago. this is her first personal me mayor. she did cooperate on the book "monica's story" in 1999. the marine mammal center is nursing a sick harbor seal right now. the young seal was found along the richmond coast. a woman posted on the ktvu facebook page the seal had been there for two days. staffers with the center say the seal is lethargic and appears sick, but they don't know yet what's wrong with it. thank you for making ktvu
