ken. >> frank, this unusual weather had firefighters scrambling with the bulk of the lightening-caused fires happening near here. it was a long day for firefighters across the north bay as they responded to call after call for lightening-caused fires. >> we had several hundred reported lightening strikes throughout the sonoma lake, napa, slau know counties. >> at least 20 of those strieks led to fires and almost half were near the sonoma napa county line. the good news is the fires were small, the large just two acres, but getting to them was tough. >> there's some accessibility issues with where the strieks are so the crews are having to hike in and gain access to those fires. >> beyond if fire danger, many people thought mother nature's light show was dazzling. these are some of the pick schurs sent to us by ktvu viewers. >> woke up to the thunder and

at 23rd street and martin luther king, jr., way around 6:30 this evening. police say the body was found behind a fence yashds away from the tracks. official reports from the scene suggest the person is a transient and may have been traying under the freeway. police toild our crew there was no obvious saturday night of foul play. in san francisco police are working to identify a body discovered in the bay. the medical examiner was called about 11:30 this morning. police say the body was in the water underneath the historic ferry boat. that intoet part of the san francisco maritime national historical park. no word yet tonight orn the person's identity. another limousine fire in the bay area under information tonight. to one was hurt as a group of elderly women were able to escape the ied limo, but the fires are giving a black eye to the industry and some people

. people staged a small but noisy protest outside the fruitvale bart station in oakland this afternoon. the rally was part of a nationwide hoodie day protest calling for justice for trayvon martin. the protesters wore hoodies because that's what martin was wearing when he was shot and killed in florida last year. those protests come as jury selection began today in the trial of the neighborhood watch captain george zimmerman. the jury will have to decide whether the killing was in self defense or whether it was second-degree murder. >> george zimmerman enters the courtroom as his murder trial begins. the 29-year-old admits he shot and killed trayvon martin last february but sin e insists it was in self defense under na fla's stand-your-ground law. the 17-year-old victim's family expressing relief te trial is finally getting underway saying

in a stolen car. he died two days later. five other juveniles including a 13-year-old boy have been charged in connection with that killing. a suspected serial bank robber is in custody thanks to an alert police officer. authorities say 42-year-old james kwin dale page of pittsburgh robbed eight bay area banks since march. the fbi started calling him the button-douven bandit because he wore long-sleeved collared shirts. a break in the investigation came when an oakland police officer recognized a surveillance photo of the suspect as someone he had encountered while on patrol. page is being held at the martinez jail on $395,000 bail. san pablo is the latest city to beef up its crime-fighting tactics by adding even more surveil rans cameras. when that city is done, there are reports 75% of san pablo will be covered either by cameras, license plate readers or a shot spotter. the city plans to spend an

additional $266,000 a year for the next three years to add cameras to 15 different locations. the city already has six cameras, and they're connected to the city's shot spotter system. if a gun is fired, nearby cameras are programmed to target that area. honda is now part of the national highway traffic safety administration's investigation into air bag defekts. the nhtsa says it's gotten complaints of air bags deploying for no reason in 2003 and 2004 honda odd see mini vans. the vehicles are not being rauled yet. cry sler, toyota and general motors all rauled vehicles involving the same air bag system made by a japanese supplier. stocks were mixed today. the dow was down nine points. nasdaq gained foir. s & p 500 was down less than a point. in news of the world tonight, monsoon rains are claimed for the collapse of apartment buildings that killed at least two people. rescuers say it's not known how many people are still trapped inside the rubble but the heavy

rain is making it difficult to get to those. the. in afghanistan a four-hour fight ended with the death of the seven attackers. police say the militants tried to attack nato's head carters at the airport. two attackers blew themselves up. the other five were killed by security forces. the interior minister also says this proves the security forces there are ready to take over when u.s. troops leave that country by the end of next year. and in the philippines an hero dog was welcomed home with a parade. she lost much of a face when she jumped right in front of a motorcycle to save two girls. she came to uc davis where she underwent months of treatment. one of the girls credited with saving, that's her right there petting her during today's welcome home event. passionate pleas were made today to save what's believed to be the oldest black-owned books in the country. opened its doors in san francisco in 1960.

. the kis kovly of a woman's body apparently dumped in a rural area of west marin has one bay area family searching for answer tonight. investigator says the death is suspicious, but they still don't know how she died. >> family and friends say it's hard with so many unanswered questions. they say 31-year-old tricia grew up in pleasanton, a fun-loving, loyal friend and saiser. >> it's hard not knowing what happened to her. >> brook says she took these photos and laid down flowers and candles yesterday at the site where her sister was found dead about 15 feet off a hillside in west marin last thursday. today, marin county sheriff's investigators say the autopsy has been completed and they

consider this a spishsz death. there were slizable injuries on her body. brook says sher her sister was out of work and not in close contact with the family. >> she would randomly call once in awhile and say hi and tell us she was okay. >> they last saw her in april when she came to stay a few nights after a fight with her boyfriend in hayward. she called in may to say she was all right. investigators say they questioned her boyfriend and he shade he hadn't seen her for several weeks. >> you don't know why she would be in marin and so far into marin. >> family and friends now hoip someone will step forward with information. >> i just hope she wasn't in pain. it's just really sad. you know, i want people to remember her the way that she was, you know, back then. >> the family came to this livermore mortuary today to plan her funeral. they hope to get her body back later in the week. investigators say they are awaiting toxicology reports and have posted fliers throughout

west marin hoping to get tips. in livermore, ktvu channel 2 news. the driver of a car that crashed last week in fremont killing miss wife and young son appeared in court today to press charges. ktvu reporter tells us gilbert gil started to break down and sob as the judge read the charges against him. gil's son, three-year-old anglo, was killed instantly. his wife 31-year-old joey gil died one day after the wreck. police say the three were head today a water pashg last tuesday when he lost control of his car hitting the three with such force it split their honda in half. nvlther says the driver was speeding and there have been reports the couple was arguing moments before the crash. the fire district is reviewing some of its safety policies in light of a new report about a crash that injured three firefighters last year. the firefighters were hit by a car after responding to an accident on highway 24 in rainy weather. the report recommends the department adopt a formal policy on freeway occupy ration and give drivers advanced warning that they're coming up on an
