. this is the 10:00 news on ktvu channel 2. >> job growth slows in the united states and that sends stocks in to a tail spin. also opens a window for republicans in the presidential race. good evening. >> its been one of the worst days on wall street of the year. stocks fell as investors reacted to a slow down in united states job growth. the dow took a dive losing 274 points, the broad sell off wiped out the last of the gains fort year. the nasdaq shed 79 points and is 12% we low it's peak. this in reaction to the may

job's report. the unemployment rate went to 8.2%. 69,000 job was added in may. the fewest in a year and far below expectations. >> it's starting to look like 2011 all over again. that is basically -- you know you go up, you go down and you end up where you started which is not helping a lot of people. >> they also point to the deepening debt crisis in europe as affecting wall street. unemployment in the 17 nation that use the euro were at a record high 11% in april and spain's rate was almost 25%. >> the economy stands head and shoulders above other issues in this race. any slow down it seen as a opportunity for romney. a new poll of registered voters across the country shows the president leading romney 49-46% and romney is narrowing the gap.

just a month ago the same poll showed a nine point margin. california's primary is in four days and eric is live in san francisco where he has learned the president is planning another trip back to the bay area. >> reporter: his last visit was less than 24 hours and this next one may be shorter. one market will be the first of two stops for the president to raise money and some say he may need all he can get in this race if the economy doesn't turn around. hearing the president is coming back to the bay for the second time in two weeks. reaction, even from some san francisco residents was mixed. >> i don't have much good to say about him. the economy is not doing well and he hasn't done much. >> today was a big dame the unemployment rate is significant. >> reporter: usf political science professor cory cook said there is still a long way to go but disappointing jobs

until they find a body and i know for sure that it's true. >> thank you. >> reporter: tomorrow there will be another volunteer search in morgan hill. it was stressed tonight they are looking for evidence. live in fremont. ktvu channel 2news. >> now to los angeles for the third day of testimony in the preliminary hearing of two men accused of beating brian stow at dodger stadium. today the court head graphic testimony from one of stow's friends who was with him at the game. the witness is off camera as he describes what happened. >> looked like he was already unconscious going to the ground. he was going straight back, his arms were limp, kind of out behind him like gravity had taken him and it was like a tree falling, no movement and he didn't make any attempt to -- wasn't able to break the fall. >> testimony is expected to

resume next wednesday. the preliminary hearing held to decide if there is enough evidence to bring the two men to trial. >> a woman is under arrest accused of using a stolen credit card in this case the interesting part is how she was caught. police say the 34-year-old tracy wheeler used her own card to get a discount on items and then paid for them with a card from a purse she stole. the card made the identification easier. she now faces charges of identity theft, burglary and forgery. a pleasant hill police sketch -- police released a sketch based on a woman 's vision of a man she said tried to rape her. she said he forced his way into her car saturday night near the target shopping center. he made -- and that he made her drive to martinez where he tried to rape her but she escaped. the woman said the man stole

her car. >> investigators say a marijuana operation is to blame for an explosion in vacaville. the people inside the home were processing hash oil for marijuana yesterday afternoon when it happened. the explosion sent two inside the home to the hospital. they suffered minor injuries. environmentists upset with the new plan to exempt part of the high speed rail project from environmental laws. he wants to fast track high speed rail and get buildings started in order to create jobs. they say the project needs more investigation, not less. the legislature would need to approve any environment alex acceptions. the toll authorities reminding driver that tolls for moultrie axle vehicles will go up next month. the toll on the seven state owned bridges will increase to it five dollars times the number of axles. that works out to $15 for a car towing a single axle20 for four

and 35 for big rigs with seven axles. on the golden gate bridge the rate will be six dollars times the number of axles with a one dollar discount for fast track. >> trends and community leaders remembered a transgendered killed this spring in a unsolved homicide. people gathered to honor the life of brandy martell shot and killed at the end of april. police haven't made any arrests. martell was in a car when she was killed. >> a bust of george masconi once disappeared is now on display just across the street at the museum of modern art. as david stevenson says the controversial work has been out of public view for years. >> it hasn't been exhibited in san francisco since 1993, now portrait of george, the slain mayor is back on display at the

only count if more than 30% of active users vote. >> two sacramento sheriff's deputies facing weapons charges. they are accused of selling dozens of guns that are illegal in california like high powered rifles mounted on pistol frames. prosecutors say some of helicopter went to criminals. both deputies have pleaded not guilty. oakland police were at the scene a fatal shooting. a man was found dead inside a mini marte. he may have been shot outside and then went into the store. the man was pronounced dead at the scene. he had at least one gun shot wound to the west. police say they have no suspects. >> investigators say someone with a welding torch started a fire. firefighters say they had to tear down the sheet metal walls

to put out the flames. the warehouse is used in part by a vintage clothing company for story age. investigators in marin want to know what sent a driver of this pick up truck truck over a cliff. it was found this afternoon near shoreline and panoramic highway but when officials went to look they didn't find anyone inside. >> a man is under arrest tonight accused of using an unusual dispensaries in a string of bank robber i, the investigation led temperature to a 35-year-old daron williams. he is a accused of wearing a mask to hide himself as an elderly white man and then rob ten banks. he is now facing counts of robbery and weapons charges. >> four bay area hospitals are being fined over errors that state officials say put people in danger. the department of public health

said the centers are among 13 hospitals in california that made policy and administrative mistakes that could have resulted in injury or death. a plane crashed today. it happened at about 11 today as it took off. witnesses say the engine sputtered as if the plane lost power. it went into a steep dive and crashed nose first. the pilot was the only person on board the home built plane. his name hasn't been released. the ntsb is investigating. >> both oakland and san francisco international airports will be working on runways this it weekend. the work will affect sfo the most. one of the primary arrival runways, 28 left will be shut down all weekend for construction work. instead of 60a rivals an hour it'll only handle 30 and that is going to lead to delays.

. next tuesday california will decide who will have the power to tax them, how to spend their money and make law that affect all of us. despite the huge stakes the california primary doesn't seem to be attracting a lot of attention here in the bay area excement for one race in which the established power structure is facing an unusual challenge. ken wayne has tonight's special report. >> reporter: congressman stark has been representing a wide area of the east bay for 40

. it's rare you get to see this a huge iceberg flipping, part breaks off from a g lacier and rices up. a tourist was shooting video during a tour. this happened in march and is now posted on youtube. experts say the flipping happening regularly but is rarely videoed. in florida a judge ordered george zimmerman back to jail with in 48 hours. the judge said zimmerman misled the court saying he had limited continue funds to meet bail. he actually had 13 5,000 dollars raised on a website he set up. he is charged with second degree murder in the killing a black teen he confronted while doing a neighborhood watch. >> in news of the world tonight voters decided to bite the bullet in irireland and ratified a measure that will
