head out to catch their flights camden property trust ken, tomorrow is expected to be the busiest day at sfo for the thanksgiving travel period. we want to zoom in behind me and i'm going to show you these full-body scanners. these travelers are heading to new york at this hour and they are subject to the new tsa guideline and today the head of the agency says the program is evolveing. if you arer flying this week, be prepared to take off your shoes and jackets and in some airports lift your arms in a full-body scanner or be subject to a patdown search. a very large man run his hand down my left buttock, that is all i experienced. >> reporter: about a million travelers are expected to come through sfo during the thanksgiving period. some will be subject to the tsa's more invasive security measures, a hot topic on the sunday talk shows. the head of the tsa defended the changes. >> if we're to detect terrorists who have proven

the wait time has averaged between 8-10 minutes since the new policy went into effect a few weekend ago. reporting at sfo, maureen naylor, ktvu channel 2 news. some of those who oppose the use of the scanners and more intrusive pat down are calling for a national opt out day this wednesday, a day before thanksgiving and huge travel day have they are urging travelers to refuse the full- body scans and thereby forcing agents to do the more physical inspections. they say they choose wednesday because many people only fly during the holidays and the protest highlights the privacy issue for those not fully aware of the procedure. >> mainly i don't want them to be irradiated or secretly assaulted by tsa amounts. >> reporter: one nevada ept preen entrepreneur says his

coastline towards redwood city, san josi at last check most recent observation reporting mostly cloudy skies. still the rainshowers scattered in nature across the bay area. and that will continue to be the case in the short-term with off and on pop-up showerses. we still have some more rain chances in the forecast over the next couple of the days and in fact, in the full forecast i will break down the taming of the heavier rain downpours expected on tuesday. i have that coming up in just a little bit. the cold weather has causedded at least one bay area shelter to open its doors. st. boniface church in san francisco's tender line is participating in the winter shelter program. starting tonight it's hosting about 65 men during the next few weeks. each night a different church, synagogue or mosque will offer dinner to the men. st. boniface plans to host a dinner december 8th and is looking for voters to help. hoar is what it looks like on mount hamilton in the south

bay. this was around 2:00 this00. clouds obscured the mountain's view for most of the day. you can see there was a blanket of snow, up to 5 inches of snow fell on mount hamilton. some homes are still without power in the santa cruz mountains and one homeowner has a gaping hole in her roof. ktvu's patti lee reports. >> reporter: lightning, rain and wind knocked out power and knocked down trees, toppling some into homes. through the roof on this house on buckeye drive and into this cottage off conference drive- you could hear it. it was like an explosion of a transformer. >> reporter: this winter storm hit the santa cruz mountains hard. >> we ent to have power and probably won't until 9:30 tonight at the earliest. >> reporter: he lives in one of the 150 homes in felton and scottsdale voyle without power since 7:00 after a redwood tree toppled into powerlines,

requiring crews to install a new utility pole this afternoon. >> we heard the crackle and that means everybody get ready for cover, because you know, we don't know if it's going to hit our house or hit the ground. >> reporter: 834 families along highway 9 had their power restored at about 8:00 tonight. three hours later than anticipated. pg&e says the number of outages actually increased throughout the day. one of the problems, field crews say the that damage from the storm was more extensive than anticipated and that increased the time needed to get homes back online. >> in the year issues have lived here i haven't seen so much debris and damage. so i knew it was something unusual that had come through here. >> reporter: the director at mountain herman christian conference center says he has never seen this kind of destruction, but yet, he feels lucky and blessed that no one was hurt. in felton, ktvu channel 2 news. it's still snowing in the

sierras at this hour and although main highways are open, it was something of a battle for motorists. ktvu's al lie rasmus reports. >> reporter: a winter storm swept through the sierra this weekend, blustery winds and clumps of snows. in the town of dutch flats there was plenty of snow to play in and leave 18-wheeler trucks stranded. outside the town of baxter, this portion of interstate 80 became a partial parking lot, an entire lane of traffic was pulled ovso drivers could install chains. vehicles were om allowed a few miles past this without them. >> it's just a lower snow level, i think that is qua is causing people a little bit of surprise. it's more of a january snow level than november. >> reporter: these students were trying to get back-to- school in reno. have you ever done it before? >> once many my driveway about

rasmus, ktvu news. firefighters in a helicopter have lakeland man from the rain-swollen los angeles river today after he many floated four miles downstream. the man was first spotted in the water before 8:00 east of downtown l.a. police officers tried to rescue him, but the man drifted past before they could grab him. firefighters were able to grab the man and was flown to a hospital. it's not known if the man jumped or fell into the water. police tonight are asking for the public's help in trying to find a man accused sexually assaulting a young girl many her bedroom yesterday morning in berkeley. investigators have identified the suspect as 27 omar sosa. they say the girl was taken to the hospital, treated and released. police say they wouldn't have been able to identity sosa without the young victim's help. >> you want to talk about someone's valiant and heroic

efforts, it's her. she has been terrific and we wouldn't be where we are in the investigation without her. >> detectives say they believe sosa left the bay area and may be heading south towards mexico. they believe he is driving a gray, 1997 ford raker double cab with a camper shell. police say jackson was a passenger in a car when someone opened fire on investigation. the shooting happened in the area of 98th and bancroft avenue. a $15,000 reward is now being offered in this case. an annual is it study places oakland among the most dangerous cities in u.s. the rankings found st. louis, missouri is the most dangerous city. that is based on more than 2,000 violent crimes in 2009

oakland, the spirit of mother wright is alive and well. for more than 20 years she fed the city's hungry. she died in 2009. and now motorcycle clubs are collecting turkeys and handing them out and feeding anyone in need. >> one thing about the motorcycle club, our bikes do make noise, but we have hearts and do all we can to help the community. >> reporter: three of mother wright's daughters have been key to maintain the spirit of giving and monica right says her mother would be proud of those who carry on in her name. >> everybody has really managed to come together and keep the legendary of my mother going. >> reporter: the needy lined up for the fourth annual marshawn lynch turkey drive and those say with the economy still on the rocks, a free turkey this time of year is a welcome gift. >> it mean's great deal to me and i hope that most of the people who come are able to enjoy what is going on at the

school today. >> reporter: the army was at the technical college and say they are seeing an increase in demand and fewer donations coming in. in oakland, christien kafton, ktvu news. a tanker flipped closing lanes. the lines were re-opened after 3:00 this morning. lanes have been blocked for about eight hours west of the north 911 street. the driver, who was intitially trapped inside the truck was seriously injured. about 50 gallons of diesel fuel leaked onto the roadway, but no liquid nitrogen was spilled. the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff say he supports congress using the lame-duck session to repeal the military's don't ask don't tell policy. admire mullen says he would rather see congress address the issue than have it decided in the courts. >> at some point in time the

september. her fianci, shane bauer and their friend, josh fattal remain in prison. yesterday an iranian official said he hoped the case could be resolvedded before train. in china state television television is reporting that all 29 workers trapped in a mine have been pulled to safety. the workers were tracked in a coal mine when the flooding occurred. it's not clear tonight what triggers the floods. in new zealand, the families of 29 miners trapped since friday are trying to romaine optimistic as rescue workers plan to send a robot to assess the situation. police say the youngest is 17 years old and on his first underground shift. >> in the philippines, loud rumbles and ash from one of the country's most activity volcanos woke up villagers and

her real name leaves near orlando. she livesn a fixed income and the man who called her told her. >> that i had won $4.5 million and 2010 mercedes. >> reporter: man said he was in jamaica and that is where she had to send money for taxes before getting her prize. >> he had convinced me, so i went ahead and mailed the $400. >> reporter: that was just the beginning. the man would call and call. he got to know her, learned her husband was ill and even said he shared her faith. all along he asked her to send more money, promising a prize. >> they were so convincing. >> reporter: but it's a lie, mary is one of countless seniors sucked into a jamaican lottery scam, but the grand prize never comes and the seniors are strung along until they are all tapped out. >> she has literally given it all away and not to a

charitable organization. she gave away to thieves. >> reporter: the fbi says u.s. citizens sent $30 million to jamaica through lottery scams last year. more than 100,000 california seniors are known to become victims of such schemes every year. >> we see them pretty consistently. >> reporter: lute jeff tudor of the san leandro police department says the crimes tend to spike in the summer and right now during the holidays. he says one victim in san leandro recently $80,000. >> to an elderly person or any person, that is their entire live's savings to be examined out of that is apretty horrendous crime. >> reporter: the fbi says when friendly fails, the scammers turn to threats. they know where they live and will send money to their house and threaten their family. they will report them for sending fraudulent money. >> reporter: agents say all the

monies seniors sent is spent almost immediately. >> a lot of money is going to gangs and drugs and they may be able to catch one person, but they just hire people off the streets. you will never be able to catch the whole entity. >> reporter: catching one of these individuals is difficult. law enforcement says that seniors are often so ashamed and don't report the crime and if they do, they are usually too terrified to testify. >> some family ebb members are literally filled out fliers and taken them around to the banks and western unions and say please do not conduct transactions c. this is my father who was examined a lot of money. >> reporter: even though mary has stopped sending money, she has huge doubts about saying if the prize was fake and says there is a chance that the $4.5 million and new mercedes exists. >> i don't know.

. a bit of a break in a rained to, but earlier this evening, the rainshowers pick up and the snow out in the sierra. live stormtracker 2, we have the winter storm warnings out for the west slopes of sierra and we have some activity, those whites showing up in northern lake county. looking at some of the rainfall coverage and it looks like heavy cells at least the cellos correspond to heavier cells outside of livermore. moving out towards the north of marin county and sausalito and san rafael. there is the coverage mostly scattered in nature, out towards lamonda and los gatos and around milpitas as well. nothing too major or too extreme, but still enough to wet the roadways and we still have rain chances in the forecast over the next couple of the days. was the scene earlier today, looking out towards the bay,

cool and breezy with wipes from 20 miles per hour. we have the showers pretty much happening right now. a few showers for your monday and then the extended forecast we'll pull babb back on the rain clouds, but temperatures really cooling off for the morning hours. first thing tomorrow morning, mostly cloudy skies off to a cool start. upper 30s to 40. san francisco at 46 and san josi should be 41 degrees first thing for your monday. here is the satellite and radar. now our old storm has moved out tot east, moving into nevada. the source from our north, we're going to seep it unsettled as we head into monday and tuesday. party to mostly cloudy skies. best chance of picking up least moderate to heavy rainfall will be first thing tuesday morning and then as the system moves out of town for wednesday and thursday, high pressure returns. cold mornses and in fact, it will be cold industrial that we're talking about upper 20s in the coldest locations of the bay area, santa rosa and

possibly livermore we could have freeze warnings. weekend snow totals very impressive. winter storm watch going into effect tomorrow afternoon, lasting until tuesday afternoon. you will see the chance of a few rainshowers tomorrow morning at 6:00 and into the afternoon hours. then into tuesday morning, the highest chance of moderate to heavy rainfall, but it does scoot out of town by tuesday afternoon into the evening hours. forecast highs for tomorrow, a little warmer than today, mainly in the mid to upper 50s and here is a look ahead. your five-day forecast, a bit unsettled for monday. also into tuesday, especially for the morning hours. we clear out the rain clouds and no storms to be talking about for thanksgiving, heather and ken, but just a bit chilly in the morning hours. >> extra blankets, and bundle up. thank you, mark. coming up next, the 49ers talk about their loss as they struggle on offense
