francisco county jails, and a progress report out on this landslide that closed portion of highway one near big sur. when it's expected to be shored up, abc7 news starts right now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> shots pierced the silence in a quiet corner of california's wine country, two young women shot to death, a community now trying to come to terms with the loss and violence. thank you for joining us. i'm diane lim. we begin with that developing story coming out of napa. that shooting on riverside drive in a residential neighborhood in old town napa. right now, the search is on for the person behind the trigger. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard spoke to neighbors who witnessed the violence and tried to help the victims. >> extremely disturbing. extremely sad. >> neighbors reacting to a night of deadly violence near downtown napa. police say two female victims were shot and killed saturday night near the napa

river. >> i ended up seeing some else that i didn't expect for sure. >> brandon perez lives on riverside drive. he says he heard people fighting, then gunshots. >> i hear a crazy scream that just, you know, sends chills down your spine. >> brandon says he ran to help. did you try to talk to the victim? >> yeah. no, i tried saying like, you know, can you like, like can you, like, try to lean back or just something to, like, help them out? because i saw that they had a couple shots on like, like by there, like right here and then like another one here. i didn't know that, you know, they already had passed on by the time i got to them. >> investigators say another victim was shot and later died at the hospital. brandon believes both victims were teenage girls. he says a car quickly left the scene, a moment that those shots went off, the car, you know, just kind of magically appeared to be there at the perfect timing, and then just sped off. >> police say no arrests have been made, and a motive is still unclear. >> it's sad that our community is going to something like this. it's sad to hear that two young girls had to lose their lives.

>> neighbors living here on riverside drive believe their neighborhood is quiet and safe, but lately they have seen some changes. >> it's definitely been a little rougher recently just because, yeah, like that right now. and we've been having some, like, gang graffiti, all that stuff. >> i think it was gang related. personally. >> police haven't commented whether gangs were involved, but they're asking the public for any information they have. >> all of napa is very safe. it's a very small community. it's a very small town. everyone pretty much knows everyone. so they're they're going to catch the person that did it for sure in napa, cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> a series of inmate attacks on deputies and staff has led to a lockdown of two san francisco county jails, the san francisco deputy sheriffs association says one of those attacks on friday seriously injured a sheriff deputy sheriff. i should say the group is now demanding the sheriff's office send in the california national guard. they

say they need more staffing and resources. the president of the association just spoke with abc seven news reporter j.r. stone. >> with the conditions of the staffing, the department is so vulnerable they need to up the staffing. this is like extremely urgent. >> the lockdown affects the county jail on seventh street in san francisco and a second in san bruno, with community and parent child visits canceled through tomorrow. seven staff members were injured in attacks starting on march 29th. now the sheriff's office released a statement today saying they are working on plans to address the issues raised by the deputy sheriff's association, saying, quote, the national guard is not the answer to the staffing shortage. we are confident that recent safety issues will be addressed in our internal response to the middle east. now where tensions are high after an unprecedented attack on israel by iran, israel successfully defended itself with help from the us military. abc news

reporter josh einiger is in jerusalem with details on a meeting among g7 leaders about the attack. >> the onslaught lit up the night sky over the old city of jerusalem as iran launched more than 300 missiles and attack drones, and a strike launched for the first time from iranian soil on israel, israelis took shelter as air raid sirens blared across the country. the idf says israel's iron dome system intercepted about 99% of the projectiles, calling it a strategic success. >> you just think about the hardware that iran threw into the sky and how little damage that caused. i mean, that's a real testament to how strong the idf is. >> president biden conveyed his ironclad support for israel in a call with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. >> the main message was, we're with you. that's a commitment going back, many, many administrations. and the president believes wholeheartedly in it. >> and the president spoke with leaders of the g7 nations on

sunday. those leaders condemned iran's attack, reaffirming the g7's commitment to israel's security. the potentially lethal combination of drones and missiles came in retaliation for an israeli airstrike on the iranian consulate in syria earlier this month that killed seven iranian military officials, now israel, as well as jordan, lebanon and iraq have reopened their airspace after closing it to military aircraft. during the attack, the us embassy in jerusalem lifted its shelter in place order for its employees, saying the threat has abated, at least for now. meanwhile, in saint peter's square this sunday morning, pope francis offered prayers for peace that this conflict does not spiral even farther out of control. josh einiger, abc news, jerusalem. >> we will, of course, continue to keep you updated on what's happening in the middle east and here at home. you can find the latest at abc seven news.com, and download the abc seven bay area app to get breaking news alerts and live stream updates.

security is tight in lower manhattan ahead of the start of former president donald trump's criminal trial monday. trump is accused of falsifying business records to hide hush money payments to actress stormy daniels. his legal team has filed several motions to delay that trial. the defense says accused the judge of being biased. the jury pool tainted and the limited gag order he's under. unfair for. the court has rejected all of those claims, and prosecutors say trump paid daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair, then tried to disguise it as legal payments to former lawyer michael cohen. >> the defendant claimed that he was paying michael cohen for legal services performed in 2017. this simply was not true. >> hundreds of potential jurors have been summoned. it could take a week to seat 12 jurors and six alternates. trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges. four people were rescued from a capsized boat in the san francisco bay this

morning. the sfpd marine unit teamed up with the coast guard to reach them about three miles off the coast of ocean beach. all were expected to be okay and take in for an evaluation by medics in marin county. officials say the boat was about 32ft long. it is still not clear exactly why or when that boat capsized in the north bay. seven people, including a child, are safe after they were rescued from an overturned boat in tomales bay. marin county firefighters say they were clinging to that boat as it capsized at about three yesterday afternoon. three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries because of cold exposure. sideshows swept across oakland this weekend. this car fire just one of the issues police dealt with as they moved in also, caltrans releases some dates and details on how they hope to get traffic moving once again. despite this landslide on highway one near big sur. >> i'm spencer christian. after

police say there were at least three of the street shows and gunshots were reported at several locations. you can see at least one car was on fire. police say a few people were taken into custody and those shows were broken up. once police responded. there is no word on whether there were any injuries during those sideshows. new details now about repairs on highway one near big sur. caltrans expects initial stabilizing of the road to be completed by memorial day, may 27th. after that, a temporary signal will be installed to allow unrestricted one way traffic across rocky creek bridge. crews have led two daily convoys for local residents and essential workers to cross that highway. caltrans says restoring the portion of road that crumbled away last month could

cost $25 million. in the east bay, a fire burned two families out of their home on fleming street in san leandro. a firefighter's helmet camera recorded this newly released video. one person suffered smoke inhalation during thursday's fire and was taken to the hospital. no word yet on what sparked that fire. just ahead, spring is in full bloom in northern california. so where can you go to smell the flowers? we'll learn some of the best spots to see the super blooms. and taking a live look outside where you can see things look pretty clear. we see those blue skies a little cooler than normal today, but we have a warming trend coming up. we'll talk about it in your accuweather forecast. >> and live inside chase center. the warriors regular season is done. on to the play in. but first how the regular season end against utah. no steph no dre not a problem today. we'll have

and among them are table mountain near chico, sugarloaf state park in sonoma county, and skyline ridge preserve on the peninsula. experts say it won't rival last year's super bloom, but it will still be a pretty spectacular season thanks to all of that rain. well, before today's warriors game, the team made an investment in the future. the warriors and p-g-and-e's took part in a check presentation of $631,000 and counting for the free throws for futures program. it raises money for four nonprofit groups and those groups include kingmakers of oakland, which helps teenage boys get into college. >> these funds help us provide the mentors, help us provide the saturday school, help us provide the college tours. so we're just a deeply appreciative of this investment because it allows us to really help young kings take their crowns out of their pocket and rocket through free throws for futures. >> there's a $500 donation for each free throw the warriors made during the regular season.

runners of all ages traded in the treadmills for an airport runway to get in their morning jog. today, the san carlos airport was closed to airplanes to allow thousands of runners to partake in the annual runway fun run. organizers tout the event as one of the more unique experiences in the bay area. abc seven is a proud sponsor and ad there she is. abc seven news anchor ama daetz emceed the action. this fundraiser benefits the nonprofit hiller aviation museum and in san jose, a family festival is celebrating spring and quality time with loved ones . more than 100 food and art vendors took part. bouncy houses kept the young ones entertained in the kids zone, and guests were able to also enjoy live bands, dancing, singing and kung fu shows. today is day two of the weekend event hosted at the discovery meadow children's museum. thank goodness things dried out toward the afternoon. >> day two brought much better weather than day one of the weekend. >> i heard some jokes online,

like people writing, obviously groveling about the weather, and they said that it felt like a fourth winter by now. the roller coaster exactly. >> yesterday was as cold as any winter day we have, so it was like very winter like. but not today, as we're getting a little bit drier and a little bit milder. here's live doppler seven. we are picking up a little moisture in the atmosphere, but rain is not hitting the ground in the bay area right now. as you can see on the animated looping image, the clouds and the rain are moving out. it's breezy as it often is this time of the evening around the bay area, especially near the coast where we have wind speeds up to about 20mph. in san francisco it's a lot warmer at this time today than at this time yesterday. 13 degrees warmer in novato, 12 degrees warmer in concord, six degrees warmer in oakland. so let's take a look from our rooftop camera here at abc seven. current temperature readings mid to upper 50s san francisco, oakland and hayward 61 at san jose and low to mid 50s at half moon bay and san mateo. looking westward from emeryville to see the clouds parting a little bit more blue

sky showing up 52 right now in santa rosa, 52 in petaluma, rather 55 in santa rosa, we have upper 50s also at napa, fairfield, concord and livermore . and now let's check out our forecast features. partial clearing tonight it's underway already tomorrow. excuse me. sunny or milder and drier. and then for the remainder of the week, sunny days and a nice warming trend is coming our way. won't feel like winter this coming week. right now we're looking at the forecast animation starting at 6 p.m. notice clouds will linger quite late into the night, even overnight, before they start to part and clear up to start the day with at least partly sunny skies. tomorrow overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 40s, so a cool night, but not a cold one. then tomorrow much sunnier skies than we've seen the last couple of days. highs will range from 56 at half moon bay to 61 in san francisco, mainly mid 60s or mid to upper 60s around the bay shoreline and certainly upper 60s inland. 68 at concord, 67 livermore up in the north bay. look for a high of 70 at santa rosa down south, 69 at san jose.
