increases. why? renters, though, won't benefit anytime soon. and a late start. and now this another disappointment for crab fishermen and those who enjoy local dungeness crab. abc seven news starts right now. >> always live of abc seven news starts right now. >> it will be a once in a lifetime event for many people. we are on eclipse. watch with what you need to know to make the most of tomorrow's solar show. good evening and thanks for joining us everybody i'm dionne lim. for millions of americans in 13 states, there will be a total eclipse tomorrow . here is a look at the path. there is a lot of excitement for the celestial show. even here in the bay area where we'll see only a partial eclipse. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has information for us on how and where to watch >> super festive atmosphere in junction, texas where physicist doctor desiree whitmore from san francisco's exploratorium is

getting ready to watch the sun vanish. this is my very first total solar eclipse, and i'm kind of losing my mind a little bit because i just can't. >> i have a lot of energy. >> doctor whitmore and her staff will broadcast live from texas on the exploratorium's website and youtube channel during the eclipse, starting at 10:45 a.m. pacific time. texas, one of 13 states which will experience totality about four minutes of darkness. >> i just can't wait. it's going to get dark and cold and the light's going to be weird, and i'm just going to be surrounded by amazing humans that are just as curious as i am. >> exploratorium visitors can watch the eclipse broadcast from texas and mexico, although the bay area will see only a partial eclipse. you'll need safety glasses and not. eyewear is going fast at the exploratorium store. how many eclipse glasses have you sold? do you know? >> yeah, we've been selling for weeks now, about 100 a day. we're down to our like very last stock. >> samantha says make sure the

glasses you buy are legit and have the iso certified seal. if you don't have safety glasses, i would say you can do things like observe shadows. >> so you can punch holes in cards. you can use a colander or like a slotted spoon in the north bay. >> experts are recommending some wide open spaces for ideal eclipse viewing, like lagoon park here in san rafael, unobstructed views that look out towards the marsh and marin county parks. ranger ian mcclurg says the spot near the civic center is accessible by smart train and bus. >> i'm excited. i, you know, i think it's a unique opportunity to get outside and to see something different, see natural phenomenon. >> carla kvamme says she wouldn't miss it. >> absolutely. i plan to see it. yes. i think it's really going to be an exciting event. >> happy viewing. cornell bernard abc seven news. >> of course, you have been watching the weather and even though we aren't seeing this totality, we are seeing partiality. we are indeed.

>> and it's going to be an exciting partiality. so let me let me show you what we think sky conditions will be like tomorrow morning. we're going to have sunny skies here all day tomorrow, so there won't be any interference from the clouds. the optimum, optimal time for viewing here in the bay area will be between. will be between about 10:14 a.m. and 12:16 p.m. and as you can see on the futurecast here, our skies will be clear during the entire day. so let's get to the eclipse itself. the path of totality is well to our east, basically from central texas up through the mississippi valley, then up through the eastern great lakes, and then up into new england. so here we'll see, as you mentioned, dion, about 34% of the sun eclipsed still, it will be an exciting thing to view here in the bay area. and as you can see, as you get closer to that path of totality, you'll see a greater and greater percentage of the sun being eclipsed by the moon. >> all right. we'll check in with you a little bit later as well. okay. thanks. now for a list of eclipse events, including viewing parties and

how to make your own eclipse glasses at home, you can head to our website, abc seven news.com. there is a link on our home page, and if you can't watch the eclipse in person, abc seven bay area is your home for complete coverage. we'll bring you the excitement from across the country starting at 11 a.m. on monday. well, moving on in the east bay, a nine year old girl is dead after a single car crash in concord and now the search is on for the driver. the suv was heading north on interstate 680 at about five this morning, when it veered off the road and flipped over several times. chp says several passengers weren't wearing seat belts and were thrown from that car. the nine year-old died on the scene. four other women are being treated for major injuries. investigators say a 30 year old man who was driving ran away what a sight. overnight traffic on the bay bridge came to a halt. a sideshow, as you can see, took over westbound i-80 before treasure island at about

3 a.m. crowds gathered and watched, some even setting off fireworks. witnesses say the activity lasted about 20 minutes, and in pittsburgh, a car crashed into the goodwill store, leaving a gaping hole in the building. it happened at 1030 this morning on atlantic avenue, a goodwill representative tells abc seven. the donation side of the building was damaged, but nobody was hurt. the store stayed open and is still accepting donations. no word yet on what led up to the crash and in the south bay, where the sheriff's office is investigating the death of a man inside a santa clara county jail cell, deputies say they found the 27 year old unresponsive just after 4:00 in the morning. cpr was administered until medics arrived. the inmate was originally booked on the suspicion of armed robbery and burglary. back in october, the sheriff's office says he was alone in the jail cell at the time and there was no evidence of foul play. today marks six months since the surprise attack

by hamas in israel, which ushered in the war in gaza. this morning, thousands took to the streets in israel to demand the release of hostages taken that day and to protest their government's handling of the war . more than 33,000 palestinians have been killed in gaza, according to palestinian officials. thousands more have been displaced and the u.n. is warning of famine in the region. getting aid in the area has been tough as well. this past monday, seven staffers from the world central kitchen were killed after the israeli military fired on its aid convoy. >> this doesn't seem a war against terror. this doesn't seem any more a war about defending israel. this really, at this point, seems it's a war against humanity itself. >> truce talks between hamas and israel are expected to take place in cairo this week. and today, jewish people in the bay area marked six months of war, calling it an unimaginable milestone. a group gathered for a vigil at the el overpass on

highway 24 in lafayette. they say their sole focus focus is ensuring all hostages being held by hamas are not forgotten. one woman at the vigil says her brother in law is one of those hostages. >> i think about myself if i was in gaza, if i was in some kind of an underground tunnel, i think the only thing that would give me hope is to know that my family outside is fighting for me, fighting to bring me home. and so i'm doing the same thing. >> the group is praying that hostages will be able to celebrate passover with their families. the jewish holiday starts on april 22nd. new details now on a story we first reported yesterday. two young boys who were reported missing have been found. they were reported missing from this area of mountain view early saturday morning. police didn't release any other information on the case, but say they are working with the entire family on the situation. in one of california's most famous highways is crumbling away. an update on the work caltrans has

recently passed rent control ordinance that has been put on hold. city council passed it on march 5th, and it would cap rent increases at 3% annually. but the ordinance was suddenly suspended after the city clerk received a referendum petition challenging it. >> unfortunately, that has been put on hold by real estate

interest groups. wealthy real estate industry groups and rents keep going up. salaries don't go up. people are struggling to buy food, medicine. >> petitioners now must collect 7200 signatures to allow the referendum to move forward. the concord city council will then have the choice of repealing the ordinance, or placing it on the november ballot, to let the voters decide. it's been one week since part of highway one between carmel and big sur collapsed, stranding drivers and locals convoys through the area resumed yesterday for residents and essential workers. caltrans crews are still trying to stabilize what's left of the road. there caltrans says over the past week, crews paved over a ditch and part of the dirt shoulder of the northbound lane to gain extra room in the travel lane. the big sur chamber of commerce says businesses there are losing an estimated $1 million every day. the road is closed right now. stretch of highway one in capitola is

closed because of construction. overnight. caltrans crews demolished the capitola bridge overcrossing as part of a road improvement project. now they are in cleanup mode. the portion of the highway which is a little more than a mile is closed until seven. tonight, caltrans is telling people to take 101 to avoid the closure. another stag to this year's crab season. that's ahead. also, why some south bay first responders will be involved tomorrow in an effort to bring back net neutrality rules. >> i'm spencer christian solar eclipse takes place tomorrow. i'll give you a look at how clear our skies will be for the viewing and the accuweather seven day f a victory that is there for the taking. grab it. now that was a great halftime speech. let's go win. help prevent them from getting tangled in crab gear. the closure means commercial crab fishing season lasted less than three months. it officially opened january 18th in the bay area after a number of delays to protect whales. crab season usually opens in mid november. also happening tomorrow, the fcc will be in the bay area to talk about a possible comeback of net neutrality rules. those rules, which prohibit internet service providers from blocking or throttling internet traffic, were rescinded under former president trump tomorrow, the fcc chairwoman will host a roundtable discussion with the santa clara county fire department. she's expected to speak about the agency's upcoming vote to restore those rules and highlight their importance to public safety and first responders. well, the push for reparations for black californians is gaining traction with a lawmaker now considering a number of bills that would attempt to repair the harms of racism and anti-black policies.

the state's black population is finding allyship in japanese americans who won redress after redress after being locked in concentration camps during world war two. >> let's start with that apology . uh- do you think that there is the political will here in the capitol to even get an apology passed? >> i think there is a will. i think we have a governor who understands the importance of apology now. and i hope our colleagues in the legislature, both in the assembly and the senate, will see the importance of that as well. >> if reparations in california stops there with the apology, what will it say to the peo here in california? >> i'd say we're not serious. >> california's case for reparations looks at the amount of public support for reparations and if there is the political will in sacramento to pass the legislation currently being considered, you can get the full picture when you screen the documentary. the abc seven originals documentary is available right now on abc seven

news.com, and wherever you happen to stream. all right, once again, getting back to the weather where it's looking pretty nice out there. >> it is indeed. we're all looking skyward, hoping for clear skies tomorrow. and we'll have them for a great view of the of the solar eclipse. here's a look at what's happening on our satellite radar. composite image. high pressure is building to our south, and that will be the controlling factor in our weather for a few days now. it's breezy at this moment, with gusts up to 31mph at oakland, 29 at sfo, all around the bay area, we've got some pretty strong breezes and it's several degrees warmer right now than at this time yesterday. five degrees warmer, in fact, that novato three degrees warmer at oakland. so let's move along and take a look at current conditions. we've got mainly blue sky right now as we look out over san francisco from sutro tower, 55 degrees here in the city, 60 oakland, hayward, 6163 san jose, upper 50s at san mateo and half moon bay. mainly blue sky over the golden gate, where it's also breezy. and as we look up north at other temperature readings right now, santa rosa checks in

at 6357 at petaluma low to mid 60s at napa, fairfield, concord and livermore. and now let's check out our forecast headlines tomorrow. clear skies. great viewing on solar eclipse day tuesday through thursday is going to be sunny and much warmer. we've got a major warm up coming our way, but at the end of the week we expect the weather to turn sharply cooler, so enjoy those warm days in the middle of the week because we'll be bundling up again by the end of the week. overnight mainly clear skies, overnight. low temperatures not quite so chilly as last night, generally in the low to mid 40s, but a few locations in the far north will drop into the mid to upper 30s. now let's talk about the solar eclipse. the path of totality, or runs through pretty much the central and eastern parts of the country. so here in california, we'll probably see about well, here in the bay area, specifically, about 34% of the sun being eclipsed. and notice the closer you get to that path of totality, the greater the percentage of the sun will be eclipsed by the moon. and this runs from about central texas, up through the mississippi valley, eastern great lakes, and up into new england. okay, let's

get back to the bay area. sunny day all day tomorrow. so we'll have good viewing conditions and it will be a fairly mild afternoon with high temperatures in the upper 60s to about 70 around the bay shoreline low to mid 70s inland. as we start to move into a warmer weather pattern. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. and look at that warming midweek, wednesday and thursday. low 80s will be the highs inland upper 70s to around 80 near the bay shoreline and even some upper 60s on the coast. but there will be a sharp cool down on friday and saturday as temperatures drop about 14 degrees. so enjoy the warmth because it will be a little chilly by week's end. >> do you have your eclipse glasses? >> i don't, i'm just going to have to. maybe log on to exploratorium and watch their oh, watch online. >> do you have some? >> no, but i was just like, i want to put my jackets away for the season. oh, yeah, i know we can't in the bay. well yeah. >> hold on, hold on to him. yeah. jinx, jinx. >> yeah, i will. >> coming up in sports, the warriors hit the final week of
