oakland, where the team will play. we're not looking to replace the a's, but what we're looking to say is that baseball fills a vital role in a community. they offered me an invite to try out. i figured why not embarrass myself, right? >> even abc seven's casey pratt tried out for the team. >> the talent is off the charts. i'm seeing guys diving. i'm seeing crazy hard throws. >> meantime, the oakland coliseum could be the new home to the oakland roots and soul soccer teams, where they hope to play next season. both teams currently play at cal state east bay and merritt college. negotiations with alameda county supervisors are ongoing. on friday, the team sent a letter to fans and investors urging them to get involved. we need your help to inform the county as a member of the jpa, the importance of having professional sports continue at the oakland coliseum, sports are looking to make a comeback in the east bay and oakland. cornel bernard, abc seven news. >> developing now, two boys last seen in mountain view are the focus of an endangered missing

persons alert from the chp. investigators say four year old david wu and nine year old daniel wu were taken by taylor wu. the chp released photos of the three today. they were last seen at about 130 this morning in mountain view. the chp did not release details, though, on their last known location. wu was driving a blue 2018 ford escape with a missouri license plate reading vb nine v1 w anyone who may have seen the vehicle or the wu's is urged to call 911. new details now. an arrest has been made after a deadly shooting yesterday in san francisco's mission. police today say they arrested alexander martinez in his home town of richmond. he's accused of shooting a man in the chest near the el capitan hotel near 20th and mission to the north bay. a high speed pursuit involving an all electric vehicle ended with a crash and a hazmat threat. it happened on the 101 off ramp at petaluma boulevard in petaluma. police

there say the car rolled and flaming smoking batteries flew onto the roadway and into nearby marshland. >> this is not something we normally deal with. this is probably the first crash dive came out to where there was batteries in the road on fire. and so it's going to be an evolving uh- training, i guess, and evolving as we go and learning more about these vehicles. >> the officer involved says the car was a lucid model and was going 110 miles an hour at the time of the crash. over in the east bay, a 3.4 magnitude quake was centered near berkeley. it happened just after 11 this morning, the usgs received reports of people feeling the quake as far away as sacramento, petaluma and san jose. that quake did lead to minor delays on muni, as the agency conducted visual safety checks. now, to what could be a once in a lifetime event for some, we are less than two days away from the solar eclipse that will move

across parts of the u.s. as abc's jacqueline lee reports, schools across the country are helping kids prepare and stay safe during the shadowing of the sun. >> the countdown is on to monday's total solar eclipse. and while excitement is building, the weather may not totally cooperate. in some places, that path of totality will span the united states from texas all the way to maine, plunging areas along that path into darkness for about four minutes. in parts of texas, the forecast is calling for clouds and some possible storms, which could make it difficult to see the eclipse. but the darkness of totality will still be an amazing sight for people there. but in cities in arkansas, illinois, indiana and ohio, along that path of totality, only a few clouds are expected, which means there's a good chance of seeing the eclipse further north. favorable viewing conditions are forecast in niagara falls, new york and houlton, maine, but the best weather for viewing the eclipse is predicted to be in burlington, vermont. eclipse tourism has prompted a surge in

hotel bookings and vacation rentals. airbnb reporting a 1,000% increase in searches for stays along the solar eclipse path of totality. indianapolis airbnb's going for as much as $4,000 a night, according to the company. less than two hours north of san antonio in llano, texas, the mayor saying their small community of about 3200 people is expecting as many as 50 to 60,000 visitors to descend on the small town. >> we have been trying to make sure our our residents understand that this is going to be something like they've never seen before. >> meanwhile, many kids are getting excited about monday's solar spectacle, some schools closing for the day or dismissing students early, and many school districts are handing out solar glasses to help keep kids safe as they watch the eclipse. jacqueline lee, abc news, los angeles. now if you can't watch the eclipse in person, abc seven bay area is your home for complete coverage. >> we'll bring you the excitement from across the

country starting at 11 a.m. on monday. moving on to your voice. your vote. san francisco board of supervisors president aaron peskin kicked off his mayoral campaign this morning. now you may marry mayor eric peskin addressed a large crowd in portsmouth square in chinatown today. he joins an already competitive race which includes incumbent mayor london breed. levi strauss, heir daniel lurie and former interim mayor mark farrell. >> there's 213 days between now and the election, and i'm going to walk every corner, every neighborhood of this city and listen to voters talk about my plan. but this morning was incredibly heartening. i mean, we've had probably 700 people here today, and we're off to a great start. >> now, as peskin spoke, a group gathered to rally against his running for mayor. the san francisco san francisco chronicle reports. excuse me? that group was arranged by farrell's campaign manager. an

during a martinez city council meeting on wednesday, the refinery's manager said facility improvements will result in an 80% reduction in particulate emissions. the refinery says they've invested a half billion dollars in improvements since 2020, and expects to invest an additional $70 million. last month, congress member mark desaulnier says he wants refinery executives to testify in front of congress about recent chemical releases. as the mayor of richmond is proposing a temporary ban on new smoke shop licenses, he says it's all in response to resident concerns about child health and illegal activity at the locations. there are already 78 licensed tobacco retailers in richmond, which equals to two shops per square mile. existing locations would still be allowed to apply for renewal, but could be denied. stores could also have their

licenses revoked. the california legislature is the first in the country to seriously consider reparations for the legacy of slavery, and decades of policies that excluded and harmed black californians, one of the bills currently being considered is an apology to the black community. >> let's start with that apology. do you think that there is the political will here in the capitol to even get an apology passed? >> i think there is a will. i think we have a governor who understands the importance of apology now. and i hope our colleagues in the legislature, both in the assembly and the senate, will see the importance of that as well. >> if reparations in california stops there with the apology, what will it say to the people here in california? >> i'd say we're not serious. >> so why should california be on the hook for reparations? find out and explore the journey of the first and only state level reparations task force in the abc seven originals documentary, california's case

for reparations. it is streaming now. wherever you watch abc seven, and you can see it tonight at eight on abc seven and our abc seven streaming apps . the cdc is issuing a health alert after a confirmed human infection of the bird flu. it involves a worker at a commercial dairy farm in texas. he was diagnosed with the virus last week. the man has since received antiviral treatment and is recovering at home. this is the second case of bird flu in a person in the u.s. when the first was in colorado last april. the cdc says the risk is low for the general population, but they are still monitoring the situation. >> cows, mammals being a reservoir gives this virus new opportunity to change, and that's what we're watching for really closely. has this virus changed or is it changing that would make it more likely to spread from human to human. >> the bird flu has infected dairy cattle herds in five

founder and ceo elon musk posted a vague message on social media yesterday. the post on x simply wrote simply read quote, tesla robotaxi unveil on eight over eight. musk has spoken about a robotaxi project for years, but some analysts say it is a risky bet. competitors like cruise and waymo have both been testing self-driving cars on roads for years. now, speaking of roads, convoys to escort drivers through a closed stretch of highway one in big sur have resumed. they'd been stopped for two days because of recent rain last weekend, a portion of the highway collapsed. caltrans says it is now focused on stabilizing the roadway. crews also paved

over a part of the dirt shoulder so drivers have room to get by safely. there is no timeline for reopening the road, and that could mean the cancellation of the big sur international marathon that is typically run on the last sunday of april. organizers say they will make a decision by wednesday. well, happening tonight, another part of highway one, this one in capitola, will be closed. a 24 hour full closure in capitola spific location here on this the map. crews will demolish the capitola avenue bridge overcrossing as part of a road improvement project. drivers are advised that there may be significant delays as well. happening tonight, you have yet another chance to be the next billionaire. that is, if you have the winning powerball ticket. the jackpot is now estimated at $1.3 billion. it's been over three months since somebody last won the prize. the cash payout option is estimated at more than $600 million.

the golden gate. breezy there as well. a few clouds off in the distance of the temperature readings right now 58 degrees at both santa rosa well and only santa rosa 59 at both napa and livermore, 55 at petaluma, 60 at fairfield and concord. let's check out our forecast headlines as we look at the oakland skyline overnight, a few clouds, some isolated sprinkles, likely tomorrow. mainly sunny and milder. there actually could be a couple of leftover isolated sprinkles tomorrow, but we're talking about a mainly sunny day and next. days and a major warm up is coming our way. so the forecast animation for tonight shows that increase in clouds had talked about. then a little bit of a break in the early wee morning hours, and a few sprinkles near the coastline mainly. then they'll go away as the day begins. but later in the day, a couple of isolated pop up sprinkles could occur here and there. but generally we'll have a dry day coming our way tomorrow. overnight lows will be mainly in the low to mid 40s. a few farther inland locations like santa rosa, lakeport. over
