this touching photo was intended to reassure the world that all was well with the princess of wales. kensington palace sharing this image of catherine and her children sunday morning in honor of mother's day in the uk, captioned "thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months." the palace saying it was snapped by prince william last week in windsor. the princess spent nearly two weeks in the hospital in january for a planned unspecified abdominal surgery and has been recuperating in private ever since. >> the release of this image was really an opportunity to kind of take control of the narrative around her recovery, to provide a much more positive narrative around her recovery and to release a lovely image in order to do that. and unfortunately, that is not what has happened as a result of this image being released. >> hours after the palace released the picture, four of the world's biggest news agencies removing it after

revealing it had been manipulated. the ap telling it retracted the image because at closer inspection it appears the source had manipulated the image in a way that did not feet ap's photo standards. >> they poured fuel on it. the reality is now the conspiracy theorists have gone into overdrive. >> experts pointing out evidence the photo had been edited. >> if you look closely, you will see near the wrist the ghost of a sleeve that seemed to have been there before. and it's a very telltale sign of some kind of manipulation of the underlying digital image. >> another anomaly -- >> if you zoom in on the zipper of princess catherine, you will notice near the top there is a slight misalignment of the zipper, which again seems to be a ghost of something that was there and had been digitally removed or edited. >> and whether it could have been manipulated by artificial intelligence. >> i don't think it's an ai-generated photo. i think it was basically somebody took a series of photos and was just doing some

beautification of photos to make it look a little more visually desirable. and that just left behind some traces of that manipulation. >> most people can cy see with the naked eye that there has been alterations in that photograph, which you can, if you just look at it. surely the communications people could have seen exactly those same alterations and said to both william and kate you can't really put that out. completely lacking in integrity. >> as speculation swirled, kate was seen today in the car with her husband going to a private appointment. and this morning, the princess of wales addressing the uproar in a social media post saying, "like many amateur photographers, i do occasionally experiment with editing. i wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday cawed. >> the reality is i think this has been quite innocent. there has been a tendency for the royal family to put out pictures themselves, to take the pictures themselves. and sometimes you get a much happier, relaxed set of

pictures, particularly when kids are involved. >> the edited photo turning scandalous in part because the 42-year-old princess had not made any public appearances since this walk to church on christmas day. kate, who is one of the most popular members of the royal family, had not been seen until last week when the paparazzi snapped a photo of her out with her mother. since announcing her surgery on january 17th, the palace has made only four statements about the princess' health, saying in late february she is doing well. she is not expected to return to public duties until after easter. the latest incident adding to the growing scrutiny of the royal family. shortly after kate's surgery, king charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. he stepped back from public appearances while getting outpatient treatment and continuing his royal duties, like receiving the high commissioner of jamaica just last week. >> this is a really difficult time for the royal family. both the king and the princess of wales are unable to carry out their official duties. and while i think there is a lot

welcome back. if you stuck around after last night's academy awards, you likely saw a special post oscars airing of abc's "abbott elementary," with a cameo by bradley cooper. and you'd be one of almost seven million viewers who did. it's a number rarely seen anymore on broadcast tv, but not surprising for the show that has won over critics, viewers, and even those special guests. here's abc's linsey davis. >> i realize my dreams can come true. so i started changing what my dreams look like. and right now, i dream of getting more sleep. i'm so serious. >> you and i both. >> so my dreams have become more realistic. and believe it or not, less attainable. >> dreaming bigger dreams now. >> yes. >> reporter: "abbott elementary," now in its third season is bringing that philly schoolhouse charm to america. behind the show's comedic genius

sets creator, star, and proud philadelphia native quinta brunson. >> it's beloved by viewers critically acclaimed from its inception, did you think i have something special here? >> i did. i remember seeing the pilot for the first time, and i wrote the pilot and cast it and all that i was so proud of it. and that was before it even hit the air. i think when you make something you're that proud before anyone even sees it, that's when you know it's good. >> when you can feel that a show is great and it's clicking and it's in rhythm and there is flow, you feel like you're truly making art in this way at the highest form that you possibly can. >> reporter: the hit comedy is now bigger than ever, with humor and relatability, it's tackling the tough problems public school teachers face. >> everybody, eyes up here. >> reporter: and putting black educators front and center. >> i think one of the reasons why "abbott" is so important in the way it showcases black educators is it invites them into the field.

than 40 years to get the emmy for lead actress in a comedy series. >> thank you. >> your reaction the moment you hear your name called. >> i was just not expecting it. i don't know why, but i wasn't. and i was immediately very emotional. the first black woman in 42 years. that just shocked me. i was pretty speechless because it's kind of a hard set to believe. >> in a lot of ways, i think we're still processing some of the awards success, because i think we're just really focused on making the best show we possibly can every day. >> reporter: tyler james williams stars opposite of brunson. williams, known for portraying a young chris rock on the hit show "everybody hates chris" and roles on "the walking dead" and "criminal minds." on abbott, he plays janine's close friends with dreams of becoming a school principal. >> you look like you're trying to mute a smile. >> i am.

room, i miss it. >> reporter: but this season cut short after pumping the brakes during last year's writers strike. >> now people can see how bad it really is. >> with the shortened season, it forced me to want us to pack a punch with every episode. we had to get creative about explaining why we were gone for so long. >> reporter: now that it's back, williams says it's another chance for the cast's federalial bond to shine through. >> in a lot of ways, whenever you do a show for a very long time, it does become a lot like a family. i think chemistry in that way is not something that you can really fake on camera. it's either there or it's not. when i look at my career, it seems serendipitous to get to this point, to have started as a child working on a show, to now be on a show that actively involves children every day. i'm so grateful for experiences

that at the time were difficult. understand how to do things differently and better. >> reporter: the show's stars are also hoping to shine a light on what educators in public schools deal with on a daily basis. >> what really pulled me in was this idea that we could highlight not only educators, but the educational process and system in a way that wasn't antagonistic, that we could have people laughing along with the issues that we know are all there. and if that changes the conversation, even in the slightest in how people treat those educators, then i think we did something more than just entertain people. >> with "abbott elementary," from the very beginning, it went to the head of the class, and it has stayed there. what is the secret sauce? >> the secret sauce is comedy first. there have been many things added to what abbott has done. oh, abbott shines a light on teachers, which we do.

abbott shines a light on a diverse community, which we do. all of that to me is not as important as making a comedy first and foremost. my main goal is to make someone be able to sit down and share a laugh with us. and so as long as we keep doing that, i think we're doing a good job. so i think that's the secret sauce. >> reporter: the comedic series is aiming for a standout report card. >> the best thing about being on the show is that we can do comedy in an unashamed way. we show up every day with the simple goal of being as funny as we possibly can and getting as many jokes and laughs in here as we can. our job is to give somebody the release of laughter at the end of their day. that to me is one of the great achievements of this show. >> juju: our thanks to linsey.
