raising the flag and awareness about the asia pacific economic cooperation or apec conference from security to shut down streets. >> we're getting a clearer picture tonight of apec's imprint on san francisco. the city is seeing a lot of last minute security changes before major world leaders arrive for the apec summit. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley and i'm ama daetz. >> starting monday, much of the apec action will be centered here in this red zone you're seeing around moscone center, which will have the highest level of security. >> the green zone, which you see is for local traffic only and may require screening for cars. but road closures will span across nearly the entire city east to west. abc's seven news reporter suzanne phan has an in-depth look at those closures. >> suzanne. ama and dan people i talked to were surprised to hear that they could also be impact. and even though they are miles away from downtown san francisco, chances are all of us will be stuck in traffic at one point or another in random parts of the city next week. it's a

normal day for stephen wu on the corner of clement street and 34th avenue across the street is the lincoln park golf course. in a matter of days, things will be dramatically different when the apec summit arrives in san francisco. there will be several zones across the city with ultra tight security on thursday, november 16th, wu and his neighbors will see closures on their street because dignitaries will be shuttled to the legion of honor. that'd be kind of fun. >> my son would probably be really excited about that. he's like six years old. >> clement street from 34th to 38 avenues will be closed except for people who live or work between the streets. bus 18, the muni bus line along 46th avenue will be rerouted. >> i live just right here. >> yeah, that impacts jesus. ruvalcaba. >> i'm worried about the closures a little bit because it's i thought we weren't going to be affected since we're way over here, but i guess all parts of the city are. >> jill ramsey also lives near the legion of honor, but she isn't terribly worried. >> this is our opportunity to just show everyone how much san

francisco really shines. so i'm less worried about all the closures and the traffic impact than i am. what good it can really do for our city right now. >> any way you look at it, expect long waits, detours, delays on california street between the financial district and the legion of honor. that's scheduled for next thursday noon. until late that evening. mayor london breed explains no parking signs that have already been posted out in and around streets like california and pine . >> there will be motorcades crossing from north to south in random parts of the city. so what that means is people will not be stuck in traffic like on thursday during the times when that occur. >> the embarcadero is another secured zone where traffic will be rerouted. world leaders will gather at the exploratory forum on wednesday, november 15th. so beginning at noon, streets will close between broadway and battery vehicles will be rerouted via battery street in sansome street until late that

tens of thousands of people to the city along with world leaders. >> we are following the recommendations of the sequel. >> they're not necessarily recommendations. they're requirements from the secret service agency to deal with the ability to move people around and to keep various leaders and delegates safe. in san francisco , from road closures to parking restrictions. >> the mayor warning plans are constantly changing thing. >> this will be the place where many of our city agencies will receive information and in real time be able to communicate, get that information to the public and to respond as quickly as possible. >> one of the key things to understand is this event is rapidly changing. >> jeff tumlin is the director of the sfmta and he's urging people to check the agency's website often in you're updating that information multiple times per day as we get new information from secret service

and san francisco's police chief with a plea to the public, please be patient, please, please allow time extra time, bake extra time into your daily routines. the chief is also asking people to be on alert. >> if you see something suspicious, report it. >> law enforcement is expected to be out in full force next week and so are emts. >> we have up staffed for the week. we have mutual aid, ambulances coming into the city. >> san francisco's fire chief trying to quell concerns raised by the abc7 i-team yesterday about emergency response times. >> there's no need to be concerned. we have resources staffed within those security checkpoints and we have areas to hand off patients outside of the security checkpoints. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> street closures and transit schedules could of course, change. we will keep you updated and we'll have new info posted to our website abc7 news.com. you can also find live coverage on the abc7 bay area app

available wherever you stream. >> breaking news now in the investigation into a hit and run crash involving an arab student at stanford. the santa clara county sheriff's office just released new images in this suspected hate crime. investigators say this is a sketch of the person they'd like to find. he's described as a white man in his mid-twenties who wears prescription glasses. police say the victim believes the suspect targeted him because he was wearing a shirt that had damascus written in arabic. investigators say he hit was hit by a vehicle similar to the one pictured here. it's a black toyota suv with a tire mounted on the back. the suspect's vehicle should have damage from the crash. but on the front bumper on the passenger side, this happened last friday on stanford's campus. the student was not seriously hurt. thankfully, anyone with information is asked to call the santa clara county sheriff's office immediate. lee and in the north bay, a novato police officer forgive forgive me. novato police are investigating

a deadly morning house fire. i should say. the fire happened at a home on laurie court near palladini road just after 8 a.m. both roads were closed to traffic this morning, but palladini has since reopened. officials expect laurie court to be closed during the investigation. police have not released any information about the victim. no word on the cause of the fire either for novato. police and fire are both working to try to figure out what happened. >> hundreds of protests rallied in front of the san francisco federal building this afternoon. the group tried to get the attention of speaker emerita. nancy pelosi, urging her to stop us military aid to israel. protest leaders called for a ceasefire in gaza, pointing to the worsening humanitarian crisis there. this rally was organized in solidarity with a global day of action for palestinians in the east bay. there was another protest, this one at the offices of south bay. congressman ro khanna. organizers shared this video of the event with us. people urged china to support a house resolution that would call for a ceasefire in the conflict zone.

khanna said he spoke with protesters at his santa clara office expressing his desire to see civilians protected. but he also said hamas has to be held accountable. >> the trial for the man charged in the attack on paul pelosi started today. i-team reporter stephanie sierra has been covering this story since it first broke. she is live from the san francisco federal courthouse. steph >> yes, dan, today we learned the jury select affected a group of 12 men and three women for hours. they sat and listened and watched dozens of pieces of evidence. most of which has already been released to the public and an overwhelming amount seemingly incriminating to david depape. today, for the first time, we got insight on the defense team's strategy. it's been just over one year since cameras captured david depape breaking into the home of speaker emerita. nancy pelosi and attacking her husband paul with a hammer. drop the hammer. the government began opening statements holding that hammer in front of the 15 person jury, explaining in detail the extent

of planning that led up to this attack, revealing david depape purchased an online subscription to collect addresses and phone numbers of his quote, many targets that were all saved in a folder on his desktop labeled favorite politicians. >> i've got a problem. but he thinks it was his. >> for hours depape rewatched each piece of evidence emotionless, even as the government showed a picture of then 82 year old paul pelosi on the ground in a pool of his own blood. the evidence followed by this a stunned jury listened as the defense began opening statements, rattling off false statements of other high profile people to plan to target. that included false theories about actor tom hanks, hedge fund manager george soros, hunter biden, governor gavin newsom, congressman adam schiff and target one, who we learned is an associate professor at the university of michigan, teaching about the lgbtq community and feminism. depape believes she was promoting child molestation

and allegedly planned to use nancy pelosi to lure her to him. that's when the defense revealed their strategy. it's not a whodunit, but why are arguing the government failed to answer why depape did what he did, claiming the evidence in this case has nothing to do with nancy pelosi and her official duties as a member of congress. but a plan to stop child molesters and end corruption. now, despite audio recording of depape admitting himself, his attempt to not only harm pelosi, but many other targets he had on his list and the lack of remorse after the attack, his attorneys still concluded today saying, quote, he had no intention of harming paul pelosi. now dan, i do want to mention throughout this trial the prosecution will have more than a dozen witnesses and the defense will call three. stephanie >> thank you, diane. >> feinstein's impact is seen all over san francisco where her

the bay bridge. barely a crawl at this point. pretty much a standstill. there is police activity on the bridge right now that has at least one lane of the westbound bay bridge shut down right now. so traffic is obviously backed up through the east bay, as you see there. all those oncoming headlights. there's no estimate on when this might clear up. we'll of course, monitor it and bring you more information just as soon as we have it. >> that is a mess, obviously. all right. could this place hold the key to cleaner air is san francisco based company thinks perhaps so. and today debuted a first of its kind facility in tracy. abc7 news reporter dustin dorsey takes a look at an effort to help build a better bay area by improving the quality of the air. we all breathe. >> you're looking at the country's first commercial direct air capture, carbon dioxide removal facility here in tracy in an area with some of the worst air pollution in the state. this technology is pushing california towards net zero. >> this facility is the closest

thing we have to a time machine because it can turn back the clock and climate change. >> we have been polluting with carbon. our atmosphere ever since the industrial revolution. and you cannot un pollute except except with this. >> we were on hand for a tour of the san francisco based company's facility heirlooms. direct air capture tech uses chemical reactions from limestone known as calcium hydroxide to remove 1000 tons of harmful co2 per year to provide cleaner breathing. >> we've identified a few different ways nontoxic, very low cost, very low energy use ways to substantially accelerate the rate that calcium hydroxide naturally takes up co2. >> and here's how it works. as the wind blows through co2 binds to limestone in the stack sheets. once robots have determined it enough, co2 has been collected. they're brought to an all electric kiln where the carbon dioxide is burnt off and stored in concrete to be used in bay area construction projects. the tons of co2 can

here in our venetian room. so how fortunate are we that the heart that he painted gets a permanent home at the fairmont san francisco. >> the sculpture now showcased in the hotel's lobby. bennett painted the golden gate bridge on this giant six by five foot heart in 2004. and it's one of the first hearts auctioned to raise money for the san francisco general hospital foundation. he had such a big heart for this city. pam bear, wife of giant ceo larry baer, is one of the founders of the hearts in san francisco fundraising gala. >> he was an advocate for the vulnerable. and he said if i can paint a heart and i want it permanently left in san francisco, i will do it for you >> for years, bennett's heart had a home in union square, becoming a selfie stop for hundreds of people. all. well, timing is everything. and the heart now taking center stage just days before the apex summit, president biden

made up of ice crystals and the weather looks good for the apex summit. visitors dignitary is arriving for friday. we're looking at a mix of sun and clouds, mid 60s filtered sunshine over the weekend. but notice it is warmer here in the city in the upper 60s. yes, there is rain coming for the events next week. i'll talk about that in just a moment. the pacific northwest getting precipitation right now. there is a cold front that is approaching. it has been sending us a lot of clouds out ahead of it. and that's why today was a little cooler. temperatures right now in the 50s and the 60s. so a comfortable day as far as a live view goes. this is just beautiful. from our mt. tam cam, mostly cloudy and milder overnight, possible sprinkles in the north bay during that overnight time period, dry and warmer for the weekend and rain arrives sometime between early to middle of next week. i will explain in a moment here. let's go hour by hour. tonight, those clouds will continue to stream in tomorrow morning. best

possibility of ice, isolated sprinkles or showers will be in the north bay and that's about it. those clouds will begin to move out of the picture, thinning out later on in the evening. so your morning temperatures starting out actually higher than this morning thanks to all the insulation from the clouds. we're looking at mainly 40s tomorrow morning, tomorrow afternoon, low 60s to low 70s. it'll be a nice looking friday and as we look ahead to next week first system starts to come in. this is one computer model monday night and you will notice it's pretty wet on tuesday day continuing on wednesday. sierra is getting snow as we go into the latter part of the workweek. this model wants to dry us out. the other model is bringing the rain in a little bit later next week, about wednesday or so, and keeps us wet through friday. so they're not in exact agreement on the timeline. we know. one thing's for sure, we're going to get some rain out of this between early and middle part of next week, as early as that rainfall projections right now pretty early. we are looking at

anywhere from 8/10 in livermore to just over two inches in ukiah. the accuweather seven day forecast looks at milder weather for your weekend and certainly veterans day is looking nice. and then monday a possibility of a few showers late at night in the north bay. we'll have to wait until tuesday, wednesday and thursday to bring in the storm impact scale level one. right now, if the storm track holds and thursday is starting to look like a stronger piece of energy coming in, we'll have to bump
