good morning america. overnight twisters tore through mississippi. 23 people killed. this morning the urgent search for survivors amid catastrophic damage. homes and businesses torn apart, a deadly path stretching over 90 miles. the threatening letter sent to manhattan's district attorney as the investigation into donald trump's alleged hush money payment to stormy daniels continues. plus the blow to trump's claims of executive privilege over a grand jury investigating his efforts to overturn the election leading up to the january 6th insurrection. first on gma, history of black futures, taking you inside the afro futurism exhibit.

levelled. >> that system heading east this morning. we're going to get the forecast. rob marciano has the latest from rolling fork. rob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning again, guys. the sun getting higher in the sky, you're getting a sense for how much this town has been levelled. some of these buildings, you can't even make out. this is an industrial building, completely flattened. obviously, that pickup truck is unusual. spinning across the highway, if you can. that's a complete moon scape there. ole live oaks completely stripped. as far as the eye can see, every building, structure and home has been wiped off the map. some of the debris is so compact they've had to bring heavy equipment in just to parse through it, in the hopes of finding anybody that may be trapped. behind camera, i am seeing officers, sadly, recover a body. this is the scene happening in rolling fork, mississippi. it's heavy, sad, somber.

at the same time, very urgent, as we're less than 12 hours after this disaster. guys? >> our thanks to you, rob, out there. stay safe. as the sun is coming up, they will be checking for damage. let's get a check of the weather. those areas are so hard hit. >> it was absolutely devastating. one of the things that made it so dangerous, this storm was rolling through at night. we saw multiple tornados. this one in silver city, mississippi. this was a long track tornado. take a look. between the lightning, the power lines there causing power flashes. you can really see the gravity of this tornado. that's what really makes it critical, the fact that it's happening overnight. in the last 36 hours we saw at least 14 tornado reports. it will continue to rise. in the coming hours and coming days we expect this storm system to continue to move to the east coast. that's going to prompt high wind alerts in the ohio valley, wind to weather advisories up into

the great lakes and northeast. we're going to keep a close eye for those living in areas like alexandria, jackson, montgomery, in towards augusta, georgia, tonight into tomorrow. i want you to make sure your devices are well charged and you're checking in with your family members who live in the southeast. we are looking at tornado, damaging winds, large hail. i'm sorry, sunday night into monday. make sure those devices are charged as we head into the end of the weekend. >> all right, got to stay on top of that. tightened security in lower manhattan after authorities say death threats were made against the da investigating former president trump. abc's phil lipoff joining us with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: whit, good morning. white powder threatening note has the manhattan da's office on high alert. police sources say they discovered a mysterious envelope in the office's mail room friday addressed to district attorneyal vin bragg. containing a letter with a typewriten message saying,

alvin, i'm going to kill you. this follows attacks from former president trump targeting the da on social media. bragg's office currently deep into investigating trump's alleged hush money payment to adult film star stormy daniels during the 2016 election. last week trump posted he would be arrested by the manhattan office tuesday. that never happened. also in that post, trump calling for protests. the former president now warning an indictment could end with potential death and destruction. several lawmakers have been pushing back on those comments. the grand jury investigating the hush money payments reconvenes monday. guys? >> all right, phil. thank you for that. coming up on our gma morning menu, gma getting the first look at an exhibit spotlighting black panther and the legacy of chadwick bozeman. >> and we are going to disney world live from the magic kingdom, take you inside the

inside the new afro futurism, a history of black futures exhibit opening yesterday at the museum of african-american history and culture. >> i know i grew up watching star trek and star wars and reading comic books. you'll find that all in here. you'll also find the way africans thought about the universe and looked at the star. there's a way in which it's enriching us all to think about the ways that african-americans have imagined new worlds. >> reporter: the curator who imagined the exhibit giving us a tour. >> this belonged to vernon green from in living color. >> lot of history right there. what else do we have? >> i am immediately drawn to this dress. this is her costume from the album ark andorid. you not only have artists singing, writing music about these afro futurism themes.

it embodies theirs ss a aesthetics. >> what is this? >> this is from trayvon. this connects with afro futurism just talking about his dreams growing up. >> the museum now opening its doors from project create, a dc youth arts after school program. the students getting to take in all the artifacts from a 1967 illustrated comic book of harriet tubman. this chair seen in the 1995 michael and janet jackson video "scream." >> it's important for our kids to see themselves in art, and their mentors, on tv, on the screen and literature. i think it gives them an idea that they can be artists. they can be actors. they can be director. they can be curators. >> it was so cool to see.

welcome to the show. >> yes, welcome. >> so this show, this has everything. nostalgia, fantasy, singing. voices in your head. you, carlos, you said that's relatable. how does this all make sense? >> i think one of the most interesting parts of the story, it really tries to capture what's going on inside these characters' heads. the whole thing is these two people, fall in love and have to get over the defense mechanisms existing inside their own emotional landscape. and so they really try to honor the diversity of what happens inside your head and your imagination. sometimes your life feels like a fiona apple song and other times your life feels like a '90s power pop ballad, and you just want to sing about love. >> i love how they did this. we all have voices in our head. these voices became real people in the show who are literally talking to you and having conversation.

mae, i understand you were nervous about the musical role? right? >> the people we were working with are like a game most incredible people in the music industry. it's like, steven levinson and tommy hail and the lopezes who did "frozen." also "hamilton." i was like, whoa, i'm jumping into the deep end. singing, one thing in my 30 however long career that i haven't done yet. >> this is the first time you actually sang? >> i had little singing moments, but this was the first time i'm like -- ♪ i'm doing this ♪ >> that was great. >> okay. we have a clip of the show. i don't know why you're not singing in this clip but we're going to show it anyway. and we'll chat on the other enof it. >> are there any other waoeufrbs that i should know about? >> i'm not really in a place for a relationship. >> a relationship?

you think i want a relationship? >> well, i mean, you brought cupcakes. >> yeah, because i was concerned. you ran out of the office last night with your pants off sobbing. >> i want to know that story. right? this series is written based on the musical stage show. talking about some of the people behind it, the "frozen" big names behind it. carlos, what was it like working for them and what type of guidance did they give you along the way? >> they were amazing. i love how adamant bobby and kristen are about, this is not our stories. there's some pretty not safe for work stuff i feel like that happens in the show. i just love the idea that they're like, mom, dad, don't watch this. >> don't read too much. >> exactly. they're amazing.
