>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding >> it might be the abc 7 news. 23. another atmospheric river bearing down on the bay area tonight. you can clearly see it from live doppler 7 right now and it is after we have already seen widespread flooding. good evening. i am ama daetz. we have the full team coverage for you tonight and tomorrow. j.r. stone and laura martinez are in the field for us, but first let's get to meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya: we are seeing light rain but do expect the storm to bring damage for tomorrow's commute, and it will be a nasty one. live doppler 7 right now, just seeing showers out of the system, light to moderate and d street on crow canyon road, moderate pockets of wet weather. as we head 10 napa, dry creek

road, light steady rain. atmospheric river is still off the coast but it is now zoning in on california, which includes the bay area. as we time this out for you, you will notice the intensity of the rain picks up as the commute begins at 8:00 a.m. it will be a hazardous commute with heavy rain, strong winds, flooding on the roadways, downed trees, and watch out for downed power lines as well. lead watch until 4:00 a.m. wednesday. rivers, some of them like the salinas river and some of the roadways. we are looking at a high wind warning until 5:00 a.m. wednesday. they will likely cause some issues. it is a three on the impact scale through the morning, downpours at times, possible thunder.

and there are concerns the hill will keep moving with another couple inches of rain. we spoke with those out and about monday night, everyone aware of the weather situation. >> ready for the sunshine and ready for the seasons to turn. i am definitely ready for it to be done with. >> we flooded last year, so the atmospheric river scares us a bit this year. we are prepared if it does flood. >> i walked is not working right now because the rain is no good. >> how much money do you think you lost by not being able to work? >> oh, my about $1000 a week. >> a lot of money. act out here live in santa rosa, it is wet, so it might not be coming down hard right now, but very wet outside.

hector, who you heard from, believes he has lost between $3000 and $4000 because he has been unable to work because of the weather. i talked with a cookie delivery driver who told me business is booming right now, up 20% as people stay home and stay dry. reporting live in santa rosa, j.r. stone, abc 7 news. ama: thank you. haps the strongest damage we have seen is south along the pajaro river. a major levee breach between counties is causing damage and widespread evacuations there. any of these neighborhoods are largely latino communities of farmworkers. lauren martinez is live tonight in san jose with the storm impacts their. lauren: residents faced with a loss of housing, work, and damage to farming equipment. the last time farmworkers saw

severe weather impact of this scale was in 1995. lara garcia woke up to of water in her pajaro home. this is video her husband recorded on saturday morning. >> [speaking spanish >> she said i feel confused and i am not sure what we will do. many of displaced our farmers or farmworkers. >> they are desperately looking for help. >> david works for kitchen table advisors and teaches a farming class at the local college. he said some of the farmers that have plants in the ground now lost their crop for the second time this year. >> if they do a transplant, they can expect their first crop at the end of a or early june. >> for farmers, their money is

in the ground. each acre could gross $30,000 per year, depending on the crop. >> this loss easily equates to anywhere between $50,000 to $100,000 in potential sales. >> garcia is a farmworker and is unsure what this year will bring. for now, she is sheltering at the santa cruz county fairgrounds with her family and does not know how long she will have to be there. once the storm passes and damage is assessed, there will be big impact on the local agricultural industry. >> this will impact availability of crops so when you go to the grocery store, you might not find what you normally you will probably find your fruited -- your fruits and veggies at a higher price than you are used to. lauren: there are at least five shelters open for people

displaced. by 6:00 this evening, there were over 200 people staying at the santa cruz county fairgrounds. a representative is asking people not to drop off donations. he understands it is out of the kindness of their heart, but they have everything they need. lauren martinez, abc 7 news. ama: in the east bay, part of stanley boulevard in pleasanton is closed after a walking path collapsed. and so is the path near shadow cliffs recreational area. there is no estimate on how long it will take to fix it. serious damage now seen in tahoe, the heavy snow pile up taking a toll on homes. imprisoned took a video showing a large crack in their ceiling -- one person took a video showing a large crack in their ceiling, and tonight a third rotary store in lake tahoe has closed out of precaution for unstable roof. this is a look from our camera at lake tahoe.

visibility expected to get even worse overnight. earlier today, it was not easy to get to tahoe. this is video near donner summit. chains are required for anyone driving on 80 from kingvale to the done lake interchange. state officials are offering additional resources to marginalized communities as more storms move in. this website has resources in multiple languages to prepare emergency kits and prepare for evacuations. people with disabilities are encouraged to find people who can help them during a blackout. >> friends, family, care providers, so they can ssu -- assist you when the power goes down. ama: other tips include keeping cell phones charged and keeping a ziploc bag with all important documents and medications at the ready. be sure to turn to our morning team tomorrow starting at 4:00 a.m.

from the weather timing to the traffic problem spots, our team will be here for you as the brunt of the storm moves through. i've coverage begins at 4:00 a.m. in other news tonight, a scary ride on a muni bus today. someone was stabbed after a fight broke out on board. this was at the corner of sut and stockton street's. ryan curry is live in the newsroom digging into this investigation. ryan: amend police a juvenile was hurt. he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police have not made any official arrest yet. according to sfpd, the fight broke out on a bus among multiple juvenile boys, which led to the stabbing. the bus stops near new union square, which has a police presence. others at the bus stop

ama: we are back on storm watch tonight as we look at live doppler 7. another atmospheric river taking over the bay area. it is expected to be a strong one with heavy rain and wind. we will check in with abc 7 news meteorologist sandhya patel with a full forecast in a few minutes. now to the latest in the collapse of silicon valley bank. today we saw more customers lining up at branches from santa clara to boston trying to cash out. here is the timeline of what has happened so far.

friday, federal regulators closed silicon valley bank after it ran out of cash due to huge losses in the value of its bonds. deposit or rushing to withdraw their funds all at once. today president biden spoke to the nation insisting that the u.s. banking system is safe. tonight, liz kreutz is looking at the further effects of svb's failure and what all banks will have to pay. >> america is going to have confidence that the banking system is safe. liz: president biden announced his administration is stepping in to save customers of silicon valley bank. >> no losses will be borne by the taxpayers. liz: how will that work? we ask a san jose state professor to break it down. >> this is not a bailout. liz: what's the biden administration is doing is impose a special assessment feea

law that will require every bank to pay a fee. pooled together will cover the losses. >> the money will come from the fees that banks pay into the deposit insurance fund. >> the u.s. banking system working to cover the ones that do not make it did liz: the money generated will go towards paying back silicon valley bank customers who have more than $250,000 in their accounts. those with less than that amount are already covered by the fdic. >> it looks like a combination of a startup economy given our general macroeconomic economy, money was not flowing the way it was two years ago. liz: customers got spooked and made a run to get their money back last week, causing the month -- the bank to shut down.
