taking you through the north bay, where there is rain east of santa rosa and light showers further to the south. . when we get to san francisco and the peninsula, you can see the moisture off of highway 1, montero. that is about to move into the city. it is wet over the dumbarton bridge and over to the east bay, just a few showers. so this level 1 system today will bring a chance of and thunderstorms, anywhere from a couple hundredths to 1/4 of an inch of rain. mild temperatures, in the 50's. windsa are up elevations. we will talk about where we see the rain today, tomorrow, and tracking the total in a few minutes, liz. liz: thank you. new video this morning, thousands of people forced out of their homes as floods overtake streets and neighborhoods in monterey county. this happened after a levee broke along the path of rogue

river saturday morning -- pajaro river saturday morning. people are waiting for it to subside so they can get home as soon as possible. the monterey county crews made many rescues. evacuations and rescues, mid more rain on the way this week. as abc 7 news reporter j.r. stone tells us, some people are being warned now about their drinking water. j.r.: complete neighborhoods underwater saturday after this 120 foot wide levee breach along the pajaro river in monterey county. >> we got notice that the love in water for three miles upstream, the size of a train car. >> it is a tremendous amount of water that continues to accumulate as we speak.

officials announced some of the water is draining on the west side of the community. they also detailed current flood projections that showed the situation getting worse in the days to come. >> i want to reiterat this is a model. it is based on a variety of assumptions, and the weather service will be updating this probably eight times to 10 times before tuesday, so these are very preliminary numbers, and we hope that those projected flows are less than currently projected. j.r.: state and county water officials are now closely eyeing the levee and what can be done to fix it, but currently, no solution is in place. >> at this time, we do not have a precise estimate, what it will take to stop the breach. j.r.: in the 15 hours or so after the levee breach, more than 90 rescues were made, according to the monterey county sheriff's office. crews are trying to figure out what measures can be taken as more wet weather approaches. as they do, there are questions

about what type of shape this levee was in before the recent storms started. even officials admitting the levee was not up to standards. >> we knew there were a couple of areas that needed to be fixed. there was reinforcement, and even with that, the water was so much stronger. j.r.: j.r. stone, abc 7 news. liz: in the north bay, neighbors are still cleaning up from the last atmospheric river event, is on the way there. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard spent saturday in mill valley and tells us about the community's concerns. cornell: more rain pelted marin county on saturday. roads were slick and windshield wipers got another workout. in mill valley, a crane was helping with a big cleanup, where a 50-foot oak tree crashed into a home during the last storm. tree removal experts say they have been slammed with calls, and it is not over yet. >> there is one more atmospheric river coming monday and tuesday. cornell: what do you think that is going to bring?

>> more. cornell: more trees down? >> more trees down. cornell: in sonoma county, creeks and streams are running high. first responders are preparing for an additional three inches to seven inches of rain, and that is a concern for more flooding. there is nowhere for the water to go. >> the roads are very saturated. our rivers and small streams and creeks are running full now, and with more rain, we are just expecting to have more of that localized flooding in our low-lying areas. cornell: in san mateo county, highway 84 closed in both directions at portola road to skyline boulevard after a landslide because this giant crack in the roadway. detours are in place. in santa cruz county, crews have managed to fix and reopen one lane of main street, restoring access to 450 homes. residents were caught off when swollen bates creek washed away part of the road. rain did not stop tj mcguire

and her dog most from taking a walk. >> we have been drenched, and poor him, i had to give him a bathrobe to dry him off. cornell: no rain delay here. these brave players from san anselmo's rec softball league were determined to get a practice in. >> nothing is going to stop us. our season opens on saturday, and our kids want to be out here playing. so practices are on and kids are having fun. cornell: braving the elements. we love to see it. firefighters are asking folks to prepare for the next storm and the possibility of power outages. they say charge your cell phone and your electric vehicle or fill your car up with gas, and never, ever drive through flooded areas. in mill valley, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. liz: placer county, oes, and officials are working to move snow from around tahoe. the snow has led to hazard around some structures there.

trip to d.c. we are supposed to be leaving in about four and a half weeks. we were looking forward to fun and some really serious times with brooke and exposing her to the broader community. liz: the search continues for the hit-and-run driver. police have not released any information about the suspect vehicle. u.s. tech and finance sectors are calling on the committee -- federal government for a solution to the failed silicon valley bank. abc 7 news reporter anser hassan explains there is fear these startups risk collapse if they lose their money. anser: this chairman says his company cannot make payroll. >> all of our cash was at svb. we have no other resource there is no payroll for monday. anser: the company provides automation software for the chip industry. even before this, he has been

working with silicon valley bank since the 1980's. >> the fbi see is only guaranteeing $250,000. we have millions. i mean, we are going to down if this is not resolved. anser: silicon valley bank has a total valuation of more than $200 billion. the bank collapsed on friday after running out of money, taking a huge loss in its bond portfolio and venture capitals lining up. >> i do not want to name specific countries, but if we do not fix this right now, we will have given our competitors overseas a gift by stopping us right now. >> this is a seismic shock in the bay area. if all of these companies limited to 250,000 dollars, we are going to see a collapse of a generation of startups here in silicon valley. anser: cory johnson is a host of a podcast and a managing member of a capital company.

liz: welcome back. here is a live look from the golden gate bridge, where it has been pretty rainy for drivers out there. at this point, we are used to that, right? happening today, in the north bay, memorial services are being held to honor the teenager stabbed to death at mcgovern high school in santa rosa. 16-year-old jaden stabbed earlier this month. his father posted anyone is welcome to attend. the services will be taking place at the mortuary followed by celebration of life at new vintage church at 2:00 p.m. the attack has prompted a number of walkouts from students in santa rosa as well as calls for safety of schools. the suspect was arrested and

charged with voluntary manchester. -- manslaughter. stewart kyle duncan, a judge with the fifth u.s. circuit court of appeals who was appointed by former president donald trump, was invited as a lunchtime speaker by the stanford chapter of the federalist society are. according to reuters, judge duncan did not get far into his talk before he was confronted by students and the campus lgbtq group outlaw, who was holding signs and protesting good as a judge, he refuses to use correct proton -- pronouns to people who are transgender. stanford sent an apology letter, say and what happened was inconsistent with the university's policies on free speech. uc berkeley students have been caught falsifying donations to the university's big give fundraiser. the event gives students 24 hours to donate money to their favorite campus organizations.

the university pledged to contribute bonus prize money to certain groups who surpassed donor goats -- goals, but some were falsifying donations in order to move up the leaderboard. those groups will have to forfeit the prize money, which will then instead go to the next leaving group. we are just hours away from the oscars. the academy awards are on tonight at 5:00 p.m. here on abc 7, hosted by jimmy kimmel. as we are counting down, the debate over the color of the oscars carpet is still going on. since it was revealed, a lot of people have been waiting at online to remember, it will be champagne colored instead of red. one fan post on instagram saying, it is not the oscars without the red carpet. others disagree, saying the champagne color is more modern. entertainment reporter sandy kenyon has everything fashion and design. sandy: look at how beautifully they are rolling out the carpet. >> for the first time in more

to what is expected in terms of rain and wind again, and monday night and tuesday. here is a look at live doppler 7 . you will see we see those few lightning strikes offshore there. as we go in closer, we have had pretty good rain, moderate rain move right in to san francisco. you can see angle's the way down to 280, the yellow here representing the moderate rain around the bayshore and further south, highway 1. pacifica and down through 380, the airport, and across the bay over to san leandro, light shower activity that kinda falls apart, but sprinkles here and there, 880 union city and fremont. up in the north bay, we had heavy rain in santa rosa, north of there now, st. helena, and you can be silverado trail there

in calistoga, bodega bay, guernsey in the 50's. breezy about 17, 20 moles an hour on the peninsula. it is certainly moist out there, looking at more wet weather feud isolated thunderstorms, more rain monday, then the a.r. arrives late monday into tuesday. we have a flood watch. you can see pockets of the downpours right on through the middle of the afternoon, so a little bit more than yesterday, although some people have that annoying mist and drizzle throughout much of the day on saturday. rainfall amounts a couple of hundredths to maybe 2/1 along the coast0. that is for sunday. the flood watch tomorrow into tuesday could we have a high wind watch for the entire bay area, wind gusts up to 50 miles an hour for the atmospheric river on monday night. this is for the rest of the day today could as we get into monday, much of the same. some shower activity, level 1

system. here is the ride home on monday. look at what happens by about midnight. heavy rain moving in into early tuesday. behind it, it looks like we get a break later in the day. care are the rainfall totals, the atmospheric river, anywhere from one inch to two inches. remember, not a whole lot of time has elapsed since our last system. that is why we are looking at some issues here. upper 50's, low 60's, the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, anyway. they won't be widespread, but they could be out there. and the accuweather 7-day forecast looking at the system coming in late monday to tuesday. we get a break wednesday, thursday, and models may want to bring a little bit of rain in toward next weekend, but as for right now, the big event still stands monday night into tuesday. liz: all right, we will be prepared, lisa, thank you. just ahead, crime prevention. how community efforts to stop crime in

liz: two years ago, multiple safety efforts were launched in oaklands chinatown after violent crimes in the area. now it appears those efforts may be paying off. as abc 7 news anchor dion lim explains, those leading the effort believe it is a strategy that could work in other parts of the city. >> they broke this window. dion: for t kitchen in oakland, getting burglarized three times some of the most recent two weeks ago, has been frustrating, especially when it feels like the crimes have been happening too often. >> the window broke, every night. dion: the rock and mineral shop next door was burglarized by what appeared to be a number of individuals. the locks >> i'm down $100,000. dion: but burglaries are down

compared to average. when it comes to robberies, the stats are essentially flat over the last three years. so why do the numbers not seem to match reality? small business owners believe the crimes are not being reported, because victims don't have hope they will be solved. >> they cannot do anything. that is why we don't want to report. dion: however, one community never stopped reporting and is seeing progress. >> we are lucky enough to have volunteers to help patrol our community. dion: over the weekend, chinatown's volunteer patrol group celebrated two years in service. they began after merchants started speaking out about attack after attack. >> in 2022, we had additional reduction of crime in chinatown by 30%. dion: foot patrol officers will be deployed in retail corridors in the city. for business owners along piedmont avenue, they hope they will get some help soon, too. >> you don't know what is next. dion: in oakland, dion lim, abc

we go further some moderate rain on lighter rain for san mateo, along the san mateo bridge, dumbarton bridge, oakland, 880, 580. 680 is red and down through fremont, looking at a little bit of shower activity. you can see along the coast, pescadero, the north bay, st. helena, we have some heavier rain. level 1 system today, th of a thunderstorm, a flood watch has gone into effect for late tomorrow into tuesday. mid-50's right now. southerly winds keeping it mild all night long. nine degrees milder this morning. upper level winds about 1000 feet, over 25 miles an hour. scattered shower thunderstorm. through the rest of the day come again come on-and-off shower activity. this will be localized until monday. you need that little bit of a

break, if you can call it a break, before things crank up again, liz. liz: thank you. and historic landmark took a been hit from the storm. the truck at air clubhouse in stern grove park was severely damaged by a eucalyptus tree. it was popular with weddings. and as abc 7 news reporter tara campbell reports, reservations are now on hold. tara: down trees, high wreaking havoc, and just on the way, severe damage to one of san francisco's historic landmarks. an 85 foot eucalyptus falling onto trocadero clubhouse. park rangers responding to an alarm at around 5:30 in the morning, capturing this video of a sprinkler system flooding the house. the city bred hacking the building, citing the structural and water damage. erin: i did not even know that. that is crazy. it is sad to hear.

tara: erin lives nearby and is one of many people we saw taking to the park trails, despite the closed signs. she knows the area well. erin: i have grown up here. i walk by that house all the time. i did not even know that happened. that is very sad to hear. tara: this popular place for weddings now in ruins. the city is trying to find alternative venues for those with reservations. >> this kind of damage is kind of unprecedented. tara: daniel montes is with the san francisco parks of recreation. daniel: part of been closed since 21 -- 2021 due to damage from storms. this is another setback. tara: what did you see? >> a lot of trees down, a lot of eucalyptus trees, a lot of water damage coming through here. tara: as far as when this park will reopen and when the trocadero house will

operation, san francisco recreation and parks says they are still assessing the damage. tara campbell, abc 7 news. liz: you can get the current forecast anytime on live doppler 7 on the abc 7 bay area app. you can turn on push alerts to get news like this one sent directly to your device. several residents are now displaced after their building erupted in flames last night. it is a three-story building near 30th and mission streets. three people were inside at the time of the fire. eight adults and one teen were living there, and they will have to find a new place to stay because of the damage. >> right now, we are trying to get red cross for them, for red cross victims. some adult have friends and family they can stay with them of their are other occupants of that unit that would need assistance of red cross. liz: firefighters have not determined the cause of the fire, but it may have been sparked by and overcharged

lithium battery. the fbi says two sisters who were living in texas along with their friend disappeared after crossing the border last month to sell clothes at a flea market. the news comes after the alleged kidnapping of four other americans in mexico, two of whom were killed. abc 7 news reporter matt rivers has more. matt: mexican authorities desperately searching for three women living in texas who disappeared after crossing the border. >> they have not been contacted for four days, so that is when i ordered my unit to contact with the fbi to see what they could do. there's not much we can do ourselves. matt: according to authorities, three mexican nationals and their friends departed on february 24 from texas, heading to sell clothing at a flea market about three hours south of the border. three days later, the husband of one of the women reporting the missing, saying he had not been able to contact them since shortly after their departure

appeared the fdic friday it is aware of the disappearances. the case gathering attention after four americans were kidnapped in mexico, two of them killed. next came authorities charging members of the gulf cartel with aggravated kidnapping and homicide. they were found tied up next to this pickup truck thursday morning. liz: that was matt rivers reporting. a handwritten letter was left behind by that cartel in the first alleged kidnapping for they apologized to the affected americans and their families and a bystander who was killed in the shooting. three women are being sued by a friend's ex-husband for allegedly helping her obtain abortion pills to terminate her pregnancy. this is the latest effort against those who assist abortions in states where it is criminalized. >> it has been clear that for years, antiabortion activists have been and will continue to use the judicial system as an

instrument of threats and intimidation. liz: the lawsuit relies heavily on information allegedly found in text messages between the four women. the ex-husband is demanding more than $1 million from each of the defendants. a president mike pence is criticizing former president donald trump for his part in the january 6 riot, saying he endangered his family. pence made those remarks at a dinner for politicians and journalists in washington, d.c. last night. pence said, endangered my family and everyone else at the capitol that day, and i don't will hold donald trump accountable." the comments come as the former vice president is mulling a run for president. a wheelchair for another warrior. the heartfelt guest and its meaning for once santa rosa tmp here is a live look outside this morning. the time is 5:37.

time out there. it is going to be slick not only today that several days. highway 24 in orinda, just on the edge, one at creek, san ramon, back westward come along the coast, half moon bay, looking at that wet weather. up in the north bay, it has been primarily heaviest around santa rosa. you can see out toward the coast. looking at those breezy, southerly winds, keeping us in the 50's all night long. about 11 degrees warmer. a look outside, spotty showers, san francisco, isolated thunderstorm, more rain on the way for monday. on and off showers, then looking at the atmospheric river late monday into tuesday. take a look at today, this morning, heavy cells developed, and they moved from west to east. . as we get into the afternoon, a few peaks of sun, cloudy skies, and maybe a thunderstorm. rainfall today, couple hundreds for some of you. don't see much activity. if you get a thunderstorm, the

activity primarily with this flow will be in the north bay. 1/4 of an inch to maybe a little more well to the north. then we get into a flood watch, late tomorrow into tuesday night. the entire bay as well as our high wind watch, where this will allow for winds, southerly winds again up to 50 miles an hour. picking this up later on today into tonight, this is your monday. scattered showers, evening commute, a different story could heading home late, look at what is to come. late in the evening, towards tuesday, we are looking at this heavy rain, and it continues into the morning commute on tuesday. look at the reds there, possibility of more thunderstorms. 7:00 on tuesday, not done quite yet. another wave of rain moving through the middle of the day. rainfall amounts about one inch to two inches. higher elevations could see over three inches, but notice once again we are looking at the coastal hills, ben lomond, the north bay, so everyone certainly

st. patrick's day is just around the corner. san francisco's city hall is already in the spirit for the irish holiday could you can see the building is lit up in green to celebrate the irish community. the united irish societies of san francisco says the irish community has played a large role in the history of the city, including helping to construct san francisco's infrastructure and transportation in the 1800s. san francisco's financial district was also full of green for the 172nd annual saint patrick's day parade this weekend, and the wet weather did not stop the show. it was pouring during parts o it, though, but lots of festivities and fun. the group and the parade featured irish community members and groups from throughout the bay area and also schools, cultural groups, labor unions involved. st. patrick's day celebrates, of course, the heritage and culture of the irish community.
