today seven downpour city city. happened right before the bay bridge six exit. that is hail in the oakland hills. you can see in this video shared with us, ice accumulated. it also melted a short time later. we even saw snow. it felt in napa county on highway 29 near calistoga. it started just after 10:00 a.m. and continued for a couple of hours. >> i have never really said anything like it. i mean, i've heard snow like this happening here before, but that is way up at the peak. i've never seen snow this low in elevation. dion: caltrans had several snowplows ready to go and started clearing the highway once that snow started falling.

7 bay area app. families of homicide victims of homicide groups are calling for former police chief leronne armstrong to be rehired. lena howland has more. lena: two weeks after the oakland mayor fired chief leronne armstrong, saying -- >> i have decided to fire chief leronne armstrong from the city without cause. lena: violence intervention organizations, nonprofits, and families that have lost loved ones to violence on the streets of oakland are pushing back. >> we like chief armstrong, because he cares about this community, he cares about us, he truly cares about us and our pain. who else cares like he does? lena: this comes as oakland police say they are investigating a string of islands after they say four people were killed in four separate shootings last weekend

alone. >> every 24th is called bloody friday. we lost several of our loved ones, so many shootings over the weekend. >> we need somebody that is in there that knows what he's doing. lyanne: armstrong was originally put on -- lena: armstrong was originally put on federally paid administrative leave after charged against one of his sergeants. now organizers are pushing to hold a town hall with mayor sheng thao about the fallout. >> we are asking the mayor to be accountable with the things she was going to do. you say you're going to take care of the community? here we are. lena: chief leronne armstrong released a statement, saying i thank them for their support of me, my policies to get victims reduce violence and improve public safety in oakland. while the search for a new police chief is underway, armstrong's legal team already fired an appeal to dispute this

firing last week. in oakland, lena howland, abc 7 news. dion: in the north bay, police will be at mcgovern high school in santa rosa as students return following a deadly stabbing there. the police chief issued a statement today, saying he picked three police officers to welcome students and staff back on monday. it follows the deadly stabbing at the school on wednesday of 16-year-old jaden pienta. officers arrested a 15-year-old student, accused of the stabbing, along with a second student. chief john cragin will also say he will attend an upcoming listening session scheduled for tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the freeman event center in santa rosa. as part of san francisco's effort to battle the overdose crisis, more than one dozen leaders are in new york city to look at the nation's first sanctions safe consumption site. san francisco is hoping to open three sites by the end of the year, but the city attorney is pumping the brakes, citing legal

dion: take a look at this. people in san bernardino county in southern california are running out of supplies and patience because of conditions for it highways into the san bernardino mountains are closed due to a severe dumping of snow. areas are getting more than six feet in just the last week. two gas stations even ran out of fuel and stores left sold out of food. some residents have been stranded in their homes for more than a week now. one family says they are about to run out of protein -- propane, leaving them with no heat. >> i assume that we are going to be in some pretty dark times here. it is cold! >> it feels like it is the end of the world or something, like we are just being completely ignored and forgotten about. dion: the california national guard, they are going dodoor arr, checki ridts
