political analyst jackie spear jackie. thanks for coming on today. of course great to be with you kristen. all right, so let's talk about vice president harris's visit to the bay area. why is this trip significant right now for the administration and maybe for her and may be different. well, it's importa literally the presidential primary is one year away, march 5th 2024, so they are getting in high gear and i think the fact that vice president harris is here is just the beginning of many trips to the golden state because it's a natural for her. she is well liked and she will be i think deployed to big states and states where there are high populations of black voters. now looking ahead to 2024, you know, do you think this is her getting ready to stump for the biden harris ticket, or maybe even the possibility of being
4:17 pm
the top of the ticket? no, i think it's pretty clear that president biden will announce that he's running for re-election and all the speculation that he may have selected someone else i think was all just chatter. i think vice president. harris will be his running mate and she will continue to be i think an asset when it comes to college educated women women generally and women of color, absolutely, so i want to ask you if this is also an indication based on her trips. i know next week she's going to denver for a climate initiative trip and does this maybe begin to crystallize what issues might be important in the 2024 election? i think you can see that as a roadmap. i mean climate change will be important. i think women's reproductive rights is going to be important and she's a great spokesperson for that issue as well. and there's going to be renewed

interest in wanting to make sure that racial equality is not deemed to be woke equality. that is what the republicans are trying to do. and i think there's going to be a lot of pushback from the democrats in that regard right to provide a counter narrative to that. certainly. how important do you think california voters will be in the super tuesday primary because you know until 2020 we were really a big state but maybe had a small voice in determining the nominee. well the fact that we've moved our primary earlier is is good for a california because you know part of what the benefit is of course is the kinds of revenues that come into the state because of advertising and the like so that helps california will continue to be a you know strong blue state because 47% of the electorate is a democratic 24% republican 23% independent so that even if all

the independence voted republican, it wouldn't quite equal or just about equal the democratic voting in the state. so it's a comfortable place for the vice president come for so many reasons so it doesn't surprise me. she's here today nor that she will be making many troops back here. all right. thank you so much for that perspective and analysis jackie really appreciate it. thank you. coming up the trouble with traffic blunt words today from experts and the bad news for the future of the bay area. and are you unplugged why you might want to go phone free for the next 24 hours?

about 1:30 or two in the afternoon that wave will be pretty much out of here. we get a brief break before the next wave arrives tomorrow evening. that'll continue into sunday morning followed by scattered areas of showers doing the day on sunday and yet another wave of better organized rain moves and early monday morning just before the start of the morning commute rainfall totals. we estimate by 11 o'clock sunday evening. we'll rain today. we're from about a half inch to just over three quarters of an inch generally so for tonight low temperatures in the upper 30s, and the areas low 40s just about everywhere else highs tomorrow about 51-52 at the coast under windy conditions of 53 to 55 around the bayshore line and up to about 54 and the inland areas and in this area i mentioned more snow is on the way winter storm warning in effect from 10 am tomorrow to 10 am monday heavy snow up to five feet in the higher elevations and here is the accuweather seven day forecast. so we have level one storm activity and wintry mix of weather through monday and tuesday a show.

so the only one or two runs, right? yes. no exactly. yeah, but still i mean something to celebrate after you know, yeah, okay now to taking a break from our electronic devices today is global day of unplugging the idea is to go screen free for 24 hours. the research is clear. it shows putting away our phones and other mobile devices can improve our physical and mental health, but the struggle is real for a lot of people. how many of us will actually do it not those of us who don't want to break our wordle streaks? i'm just saying what's your streak up to? i don't have to like but it's it's i mean, i it's yeah in the hundred. yeah, for sure. yeah and not just wordle for me. you know, i play like three different board games so you but what are your excuses guys? probably time to unplug that sounds like a desperate cry for help. you know, what's hard though is like if you let's say are i'm gonna turn the phone off for today, but you don't tell everybody your family. let's say they're gonna be trying to get a hold of you.
4:43 pm
i mean what what are the protocols here michael? how do you how do you get ready to do this? yeah. i mean it's tough because we're putting so much there. we put our home life there our safety there. we put our work there, but you know, what a lot of times when i'm hearing critiques of all of this i think back when i was a kid, it was comic books then they said too much television now, they're saying too much screen time. i i don't think it's as bad as we're often told truly. i agree with michael. i don't think it's as bad as we're often told. i mean, i need my phone because as you pointed out we've got everything there. our work schedules are personal contacts things we need to do. to so i needed to r stuff. so nobody's going into the aaron rodgers cave of darkness for four days about the phone, right? no, no takers there will music make you board a plane a little bit faster. that is just one thing southwest airlines is experimenting with to relieve the boarding bottlene. other changes include a pre-boarding area and more information at the gate to to
4:44 pm
guide passengers. the airline is hoping to shave five minutes off the usual 40 minute boarding process. what songs are they going to play like ac/dc like to get you really fine? what are they gonna play? what do you want to hear chris walk this way? yeah the fast tempo right not spa music because then you're just lured out and they save money right michael. i mean if they can get the boarding absolutely they can get the plane. look i will see you all a song if you'll get on the floor. or start me up. spencer yeah, you've got. got some good ideas. just think about the songs that make me want to move. right right. was that your was that your walk-up music when you were playing baseball when i was playing baseball, there was no such thing as walk-up music they barely had baseball they barely had music but spencer had to catch the cow to get the leather. got a million of y baseball's office said to be

4:46 pm
right a little sauce. maybe not. yeah. yeah. i'm not ready for that. yeah. all right. we'll see maybe for tasty thursday we try it out. rather go for the chocolate crickets. in my ice cream. okay, we're out of time. is this a choice? that's a good place to be out of time chocolate crickets. we'll be right back. with align probiotic. when your gut bacteria is out of balance. you may feel it but just one align daily helps promote a balanced gut and soothe occasional digestive upsets. join the align healthy gut team up. bringing together real align users and experts! to help you get the most out of probiotics. learn more at alignprobiotics.com try align for a month and see how great a healthy gut can feel. welcome to an align gut.

4:49 pm
today to local business groups and urban planners. we can really decide as collective community that transit is important for our values that having equitable opportunities and having a clean air and having a strong economic recovery is a priority and we can invest in transit and if we don't those goals are not going to be achievable. the blunt assessment came during a virtual event hosted by the bay area council spur advanced sf and san francisco chamber of commerce representatives from uni and bart say they've heard riders concerns and they're taking meaningful steps to improve safety and reliability express lanes on 101 in san mateo county are officially open now the lane stretch for 16 miles along highway 101 between south san francisco and redwood city abc 7 news reporter lincoln howland has the details.
4:50 pm
everything's going up in price. south bay drivers will now have touc f ather charge if they want to take the new express lanes to cut down their time and traffic and i think it's ridiculous that we are paying we got to pay now for you know for commuting and all this other stuff. i think that's a lot of money that's gonna come out of people's pockets the new express lanes along both directions of highway 101 make up 16 miles between interstate 380 in south san francisco and whipple avenue in redwood city these connect to existing express lanes which run to north matilda avenue in sunnyvale. every time you hit underneath that. it's going ding you like ding ding the lanes are free if you're a carpool with three or more people and have a fast track flex solo drivers. however will pay the price using a regular fast-track tag during the hours of 5 am to 8 pm every weekday and although prices will vary depending on how much like
4:51 pm
there is pierce cozy a super commuter from modesto says for him. it's not worth it. i'll probably be avoiding the lane as much as possible. we also checked in with chp about these new express lanes and they say they will not be doing anything extra to help enforce these new lanes instead. they say that's primarily done through license plate readers and pictures taken along the new route in sunnyvale lina howland abc 7 news and it's variable pricing sort of like giants tickets, right? and so i mean sometimes a two mile three mile stretch can run you 10 dollars, but you need the special transponder right you do it's not the same as your old standard one. it's got one that allows you to flip to two or three people to get either the discount or the free. okay. yeah. all right. well, it's safe and clear driving right now become this weekend. yeah, sure. looking forward to some rain free driving get out of the highway right now because spring is coming our way. the approaching storm is a level one storm on the exclusive abc 7
