deceased and had some apparent trauma to her body. >> kerry was pronounced dead at the scene. police had not said how long she had been here. so far, her parents have not talked to canadian media. but they did tell investigators she was here alone. she was found about half a mile from where stages were set up for this weekend's festival. >> the roads were closed, but there were thousands of people walking on all of the paths, through the trees, out to the buss. a lot of people take public trabs poration. so they're just coming in from all around. >> she says lots of people likely camped in golden gate park friday and saturday night. >> they have backpacks and camping gear and whatnot. so i'm sure there's plenty of people that sort of camp here for the whole weekend. >> unfortunately, this is an area with no surveillance cameras. they're in the initial steps. if anyone recognizes audrey, investigators would like to hear

about it to help solve this crime. >> search and rescue dogs today join the hunt for clues into another seemingly senseless killing. carter was a prominent owe kba instructor who was visiting from lake county. >> frightening for us. you know, we have such a safe, wonderful town. and it's not something we expect to happen near our town. >> sheriff's officials say carter's car is missing and possibly was stolen after the killing. they're asking people to be on the lookout for a 2003 vwjetta hatch back. there's the license plate number. a student at high school was arrested for posting on social media that he was going to hurt people at his school.

police say the 15-year-old posted a picture of himself making that threat while holding a rifle. a parent called police when she heard about it. the taeenager is charged with making criminal threats. the rifle was found at another family member's home. >> equal pay for equal work. today, governor brown has signed a new law here in the bay area designed to make that happen. >> lots of applause at the signing. supporters say it is the strongest equal pay law in the nation. >> if we cut the pay gap, we would cut women's poverty in half. >> abc 7 news reporter laura anthony is live in richmond with more on the story to be the. >> reporter: hi, dan. after some initial concerns, even the business community got on board with this new law that governor brown is doing here at the rosey the riveter museum. while it's a huge victory, it's

just another step in a very long process. >> 66 years in the making, since 1949, the last time california passed a law that required women to receive equal pay for equal work. signed by governor jerry brown, the california fair pay act now requires equal pay regardless of gender for substantially similar work. it also prohiblts retaliation against employees. >> this is really a big day, important. the inequities that have plagued our state and have burdened women forever are slowly resolved. >> these young girls appreciate the new law. >> i'm guessing they knew about it. and i realize women should be paid the same. for us, we're working on the next generation.

workers in california are women struggling to support their families? california has 2 million children living in poverty. that's more than any other state in america. >> the mayor made their announcement at a small business in san francisco. supporters are working to get the initiative on the 2015 november ballot. >> while pg&e faces at least two lawsuits because of the fire, the fire destroyed 475 homes and hundreds of other buildings. two people were killed and 70,00 acres destroyed. a lawsuit filed today names pg&e and its contractor for not properly maintaining brush near power lines. the official cause is under investigation. another lawsuit filed one week ago also blames pg&e trees.

>> sky 7 hd shows smoke pouring from the house on west eagle wood avenue. it is a densely packed neighborhood and another just feet away from the flames. also was at real risk and damage. firefighters attack the flames from several angles. the area is closed to traffic as they continue to mop up the mess. >> a utility crew working in a san mateo neighborhood accidentally caused a natural gas leak this afternoon. sky 7 was overhead showing crews working to cap that leak. pg&e says the utility crew accidentally hit a 2 inch gas main causing natural gas to leak into the sewer system. a construction worker died in san jose today after a large excavator slammed into him. abc 7 was at the home

construction site where sheriff's officers were there asking questions. this happened about 11:20 this morning while the machinery was digging. >> the excavator was moving position. i don't know where the victim was, blind side or not. but the bucket from the excav e excavator struck the victim and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. >> osha is investigating to help figure out what was wrong. work has been suspended during the excavation. >> the city auditors recommendations comments the number of recruits falls far short of the number of veteran numbers leaving. david louis is live at san jose police headquarters with a look at these recommend dalgss and what they help to accomplish. david? >> well, dan, it has been did i have couple for a number of years where san jose police recross-suit newer officers because of pension reform. now, a tenttive deal has been reached that will undo some of

those cutbacks. however, the recruit classes remain very small. >> the auditor's report to return to its aught rooized strength of 1109 officers. must boost advertising and recruit. efforts consider giving credit in lieu of college requirements and offer retention bonuses to cover application expenses. it abolishes measure b, a pension reform plan that triggered in exodus. >> the settlement framework that was agreed to to end measure b is not able to be implemented until the other nonsworn unions have a similar agreement. that process is still going only. >> as soon as that framework

sky 7 hd captured the landing this afternoon. just before 8:30 this morning, the boeing 787 was forced to divert to new mexico. >> lo rrrie says it was then sh learned the co-pilot suffered a massive seizure. >> what was going through your mind? >> well, i thought about what happened yesterday. that was a lit m scary. but everyone is staying so calm. >> yesterday, an american airlines pilot died shocking those on board. but yesterday, as to today, there was praise with how the situation was handled. >> aviation consultant mike mckaren says medical emergencies

was his two other employees after the school had not kplooted background checks. the city attorney passed away suddenly this morning in walnut creek. the cause of mark coon's death has not been revealed at this point. we understand city workers and the legal community are just stunned by this, of course. all city offices were closed and tonight's city council meeting has been cancelled. a new role that some say is a step toward banning cars completely from parking near mere woods. that number will be reduced to 80 cars. the area's popularity has caused a safety and congestion problem. >> ucberkley report card gives b.a.r.t. and muni high marks. the highest ranked station, the

car insurance for teenagers does not have to break the bank. >> 7 on your side is here to explain exactly how that's going to work. >> that's what we said. >> we got our insurance, though. getting a driver's license is a big milestone for teenagers and their families. but along with that landmark is the worry of skyrocketing insurance premiums. consumer reports shows how to cut costs when adding a teen to your car insurance policy. >> 16-year-old kylee's father darren is looking forward to her being able to drive on her own. but he's dreading the surge in his car insurance premiums. >> i'm just going to have to work more. and eventually, when i'm an old man, she can pay my insurance. the exhaustive insurance rates found just how high rates go up when you add a teen driver. a 55-year-old couple who add a 16-year-old driver to their policy. >> the average increase when you

add a teen driver is 90% more than what you're already paying. but the size of the increase really depends on wr you live and which insurer you use. >> the biggest increase was in north carolina, 15 9d%. that's more than $1600 extra per year. the smallest was in hawaii. 16%. an additional $312 per year. >> say you add a teen driver to your policy, it pays to shop around rather than just toe accept. we found that prices can vary dramatically depending only the insurance company. >> for instance, in california, that sample family would see an increase of around $3400 a year with all state. but only $905 a year if they switch to aut club insurance. >> most insurers in most states do offer discounts to families with students who can show proof of good academic insurance. >> for consumer reports sample

just partly cloudy skies right along the horizon. it's 71 in santa rosa. nevada, 75. fairfield, 80. 77 concord. showing you ocean beach, i think this, once again, is going to be a popular location over the weekend when you see the numbers. so the forecast calls for low clouds returning once again overnight. we'll have that afternoon sunshine pattern. warmer days into next week and summer like at the beaches. along with satellite high pressure, slowly bringing us that gradual warming trend. and really is a quiet fall pattern for the next 7 days or so. so take antoich. a week ahead, you notice that gradual warming trend in the second half of our 7 day forecast. we'll top out in the low and mid 90s. but that high pressure, which is bringing up that gradual warm-up, it's also acting like a blocking mechanism. it's like a wall. it's diverting all moisture to

the north and to the west into british columbia, vancouver and porland. so we will remain dry over the state of california. a different story just off the coast of hawaii. look at this. winds 85 miles per hour booking to the northeast at 18 miles per hour. one of the interesting tidbits we have about this storm, we've never had a category one hurricane in the month of october off the wet coast. it's just an indication of those warm waters this storm is feeding off of. overnight tonight, mostly cloudy skies around the coast. partly cloudy inland. into the mid and upper 50s we go starting in the south bay for wednesday, mid weekend's, san jose. 78 palo alto. downtown san francisco, 72. 71 sasilito. 79 inland and lots of sunshine. 820 3i9s burg and 84 liver more.
