visibility in san sta about 4 miles an hour in petaluma. the clouds are keeping us in the 60s. 12-hour day planner, in the mid 60s to mid 70s by coast inland by noon. upper 60s at the coast with more cloud cover than yesterday, mid 70s to low 80s inland. enjoy this mild day. heading south on 101 near woodside road we just passed it. traffic is light as we head toward the south bay. northbound traffic also light. parts of the bay area we do have some accidents but moving up towards richmond a few things are going on. east and westbound along 580 and also along i-80 heading out of east richmond. we are tracking breaking news out of san jose. police are investigating a homicide at a business on lundy avenue near mckay drive. authorities were called out to the scene just before 12:30 this morning. they found a man inside the building with at least one

gunshot wound. the victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. no motive, no word on any suspects right now. no arrested have been made but keep it here on nbc 7 news. happening today some shoppers are in a frenzy while some shoppers brace for a gridlock as a giant outlet mall opens in the east bay. what's ahead for the morning in livermore, janet? >> reporter: good morning. this is veally the calm before the shopping frenzy begins. there are quite a few workers out here this morning trying to work up into the very last minute to get everything ready for the group of shoppers for the -- for all the shoppers who will be here later this morning at 10:00 when 30 new stores open today. this is all part of the multi-million dollar expansion phase two, to bring more designerdesign er designer brands to the san

francisco outlets. some of the stores and brands include jimmy choo, tory burch and much more. >> hopefully they'll bring a lot more stores to the livermore area. >> reporter: you can expect a lot more traffic in the area with the new stores. when the outlets first opened in livermore in 2012, it was a big traffic mess especially since it opened around the holidays. livermore police have been trying to get the word out. that congestion will be pretty bad today as a lot of excited shoppers head this way. traffic is expected to be backed up on 580 on both east and westbound lanes near el charles exit. you are strongly encouraged to car pool or take public transportation. as far as the expansion goes livermore outlets, this is the no the end of it. there will be 20 more stores that will be opening in the near future. reporting live in livermore, abc 7 news. all is calm this morning in oakland now after a night of demonstrations that lasted into

the night. dozens of people shut down temporarily a section of interstate 980, set a trash can on fire and vandalized a local starbucks. no word on any arrests or damage estimates. the traffic headache turned out to be the night's biggest problem. the demonstration began in oakland in martin luther king jr. way and 27th street where that armed robbery suspect was fatally shot by three officers. police say they opened fire as he tried to carjack someone after crashing a car tied to a robbery on july 27th. police say the suspect did not fire his weapon at them. this is the third fatal shooting involving oakland police this year. the search continues for the woman who jumped 70 feet off the bay bridge. we brought you that story live yesterday morning. the woman was in a stolen car that crashed on the eastern span of the bridge around 2:30 a.m.

officials say one woman went into the water somehow and swam to shore picked up by a truck driver who dropped her off in the east bay. investigators want to find the woman to make sure she's okay. a suspect charged in the armed robbery and assault on local tv news crews is in jail this morning. police say michael jones was the getaway driver during last month's attack of san francisco's embarcadero. as cornell bernard tells us from abc 7, two other suspects are still being sought by police. >> this robbery obviously targeted the media. >> the early morning robbery was brazen. news crews covering the death on pier 14 found themselves in the middle of a holdup. these camera phone pictures got the weapon and a suspect wearing a mask. two news cameras were stolen and a photographer was pistol whipped. an abc 7 crew nearby was unharmed. evidence including this magazine

clip left at the scene helped police track down the 23-year-old driver of the bmw getaway car. >> knowing the registered owner, a michael jones to be a san francisco gang member whose gang has been engaging in -- or we believe engaging in robberies auto burglaries and other crimes in san francisco and perhaps across the bay as well. >> reporter: the chief says jones has a long rap sheet on felony probation for a gun offense. two other suspects are still at large. >> we're still working with our partners across the bay and oakland to see if we can come up with the other two suspects. we're confident that we can. >> the stolen cameras have not been recovered. the investigation continues. in san francisco cornell bernard, abc 7 news. 6:05. high winds will be a concern for firefighters battling the jerusalem fire in lake county. gusty winds are expected near the fire tonight.

crews say a lack of roads is also making it very tough to gain control of the flames. so far the jerusalem fire has burned 20,500 acres. it is 16% contained. the jerusalem fire's also merged with the nearby rocky fire in several locations. that fire is the largest -- single largest in the state. it is 95% contained. the u.s. forest service will pay tribute today to a firefighter killed battling a fire near lake tahoe. the 21-year-old died saturday when a tree fell on him. he was with a team fighting a fire in rugged terrain between lake tahoe and the eldorado national forest. he is the second firefighter to die in northern california this season. david rule died july 30th. former president jimmy carter is set to begin treatment for advanced cancer. the 90-year-old carter says the disease has spread throughout his body.

san francisco mayor ed lee tweeted this picture with carter two weeks ago when the former president was in the city for a book signing. president obama spoke with carter last night. mr. obama tweeted well wishes say be saying, jimmy, you are as resilient as they come and along with the rest of america are rooting for you. police are trying to figure out who killed a notorious san quintin six member. he was stabbed to death during a riot yesterday at the new folsom state prison. prison officials say 70 inmates were involved. officers used pepper spray and warnings shots in an effort to stop the fighting. they still aren't saying what started the rioting. a transgender prison inmate

who's been demanding a sex change operation is free an parole this morning. she was released from a men's prison in sacramento. she'll be living in san francisco. she is likely to end her attempt to have the state pay for her gender reassignment but she's still appealing to the federal to force california to pick up the tab. a $45 million project on toll plaza. acourt workers will prepare the highway for fiber-optic cables that will bring information to the overhead signs alerting drivers to the tolls. abc 7 news reporter matt keller will have a full report at 6:30. right now let's get a full report on the heat wave.

flying around. now they're unleashing 5,000 male mosquitoes into a local neighborhood. >> dusted with a very minute amount of insecticide that kills young mosquitoes. mosquito larvae. >> scientists hope the male mosquitoes will pass the insecticide on to female mosquitoes killing off larva and reducing mosquito populations. only females bite because they need your blood to produce eggs. officials say this is the first time the strategy has ever been used to kill off mosquitoes. if successful, they could eventually be used in other areas. members of a dublin community group have delivered letters to the mayor and the project developer asking for a community agreement to ensure oakland residents get good jobs and affordable housing out of the coliseum city project. it is still far from a done deal but city officials haven't been able to finalize a deal with the oakland raiders. the developers must present the

stadium plan by this friday. quarterback colin kaepernick is blaming online media for speculation that he fought with aldon smith that he caused him to snap and ultimately get cut by the 49ers. he says the niners didn't even have practice on the day of the alleged confrontation. he says people are trying to sensationalize the story. >> for people that do report that and put that out there, and jumped on that bandwagon just to get internet clicks and get attention to their website. or reports. it really is embarrassing that people do that. >> smith was arrested last week for dui, vandalism and hit and run. he was released from the team a few hours later. kaepernick says he's still good friends with smith. a courtroom artist is apologizing to tom brady.

responsible for a small fire near 8th and clay streets as well as setting a trash can on fire. a nearby starbucks was also damaged by protesters. dozens of people hit the streets to voice their anger over a fatal police shooting of an oakland man yesterday afternoon. they temporarily shut down a section of interstate 980, set a trash can on fire and vandalized a local starbucks. no word on any arrest or damage estimates. the traffic headache turned out to be the night's biggest problem. the demonstration began in oakland at martin luther king jr. way and 27th street where the armed suspect was fatally shot by three officers. he tried to carjack somebody after stealing a car. a car the suspect crashed just before the attempted carjacking was linked to a robbery that took place july 27th. there have been three fatal shootings involving oakland police this year. work is under way on the first of three express lane segments that will eventually run from the benicia bridge

san rafael. matt keller is live in san ramon. >> reporter: all you single drivers out there, this is for you. you will soon be able to pay more for a faster commute on 680. according to the "contra costa times" times", express lanes will eventually go from the benicia bridge to san ramon. car poolers, motorcyclists and certain clean air vehicles can use the hov lanes now and can still use the express lanes for free. by 2016 solo drivers will be able to pay to drive in those lanes. the more traffic, the more you'll pay. the metropolitan transportation commission estimates drivers will be able to save anywhere from five to ten minutes on average during their commute. the electronic toll tag readers cha will charge your fastrak

account like other areas license plate cameras will be used to prevent cheating. matt keller, abc 7 news. 6:34. new this morning -- isis has claimed responsibility for a deadly overnight attack in baghdad. at least 62 people were killed when a truck bomb was detonated in the city's largest market. police say another 125 people were wounded. officials say the market is especially crowded on thursdays as people stock up on food for the weekend. new details this morning in that massive explosion in china. the number of victims has now risen to at least 50 including 12 firefighters. more than 500 people were injured after an explosion at a warehouse filled with dangerous chemicals chemicals. the blast and heat were so intense, they destroyed office buildings and blew out windows at a nearby apartment complex. the explosion also melted rows of new cars at a nearby parking lot. officials say the cars are still

too hot to touch this morning. no word what caused the explosion. chirn's china's president has demanded severe punishment for anyone found responsible. we just got an update on the jerusalem fire burning in lake county. 23,500 acres have been burned now and it is 33% contained. that's good progress overnight as it was just 16% contained last night. fires is burning away from homes. what's also helping is that the fire has moved up to the edge of areas already blackened by the rocky fire. that massive fire is 95% contained after charring nearly 70,000 acres. alameda police are trying to determine if a teen arrested for sexual ly sexually assaulted

female. in the most recent attack on sunday, police say a prowler sexually assaulted a young girl sleeping in her bedroom. mrs.police are looking for a drone that forced a medical helicopter carrying a patient to make evasive action. the pilot had to make a sudden turn to avoid the unmanned aircraft yesterday afternoon just north of the fresno yosemite international airport. the chopper was headed to a hospital with the patient. the drone missed the rotor barely flying a dangerous 20 feet beneath the blade. the helicopter made it safely to the hospital. the faa says encounters between drones and aircraft near airports are an increasing problem. 6:36. up next -- trader joe's or whole foods. how living next to eric -- not living next to you -- >> living next to one of those two stores could impact the value of your home. we'll tell you which one. today shoppers are jumping for joy and drivers are bracing for gridlock as the second phase of a giant outlet mall opens in the east bay. abc 7 news janet? >> reporter: good morning. in just a few hours this place will be packed with shoppers as they take a look at the 30 new stores opening at 10:00 this morning at the outlet in livermore. this entire area here is part of that second phase, it is a multi-million dollar project adding new affordable and designer brands like old navy jimmy choo and tory burch. with this expansion hundreds of jobs have also been created. it is now known as the san francisco premium outlets and said to be the largest outdoor outlet in the state. for that very reason a lot of
