li live from the kgo-tv broadcast center, this is abc7 fuse. tragedy on the fire lines tonight. the first person to die this season. >> a firefighter who traveled here from his home in south dakota was killed while fighting a major wildfire in california. >> good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. the u.s. forest service is investigating the death of david role. he was helping battle the frog fire in far northern california. the crews found his body this morning. >> the u.s. forest service tweeted this picture of a purple ribbon in tribute to this fallen firefighter. the service will be lowering the flags in his honor. and governor brown issued a statement writing firefighter role will be remembered for his service and bravery and we extend our deepest condolences. >> the fire is one of 23 major

fires burning up and down the state. governor brown declared a state of emergency. the order allows the california national guard to help fight the fires and clears california to get help from other states. >> another fire is burning out of control in lake county near clear lake. >> it has charred more than 18,000 acres and is just five% contained. alan wang has the latest. >> tonight erratic winds stirred up flames that let 10ed to jump morgan valley road. this is where most of the evacuations took place and this is where the crews from california made their stand. >> that's obviously a great danger to everybody on the ground. we are protecting the power lines by keeping the hose lines in place. >> the last air drop of the night left the crews defending the road and the power lines

without air support. another 5,000 acres burned here today. >> it is like being in another world. the smell and the embers, it is still burning here. >> meanwhile a second fire is burning toward the city of lower lake. it prompted more evacuations and the opening of another shelter in nearby kelseyville. >> you should be ready to go. >> now firefighters are hoping the nighttime humidity will last long enough for them to gain a much needed advantage. alan wang, abc7 news. >> and just to give you an idea how big this fire is you can see the satellite image from nasa. the red lines indicate the fire lines and you can see how much smoke it is producing. >> so will the weather cooperate with firefighters the next couple days? abc7 news meteorologist sand

yaw patel -- sandhya patel is here. >> and it is more humid than it was earlier. look at the conditions. live doppler 7hd will show you why. we have low and high clouds. the relative humidity went from 26% at 11:00 a.m. to 52%. we just saw the doubling of the relative humidity which should help firefighters. the winds have dropped off gusting to 5. they are 74 degrees in the lake county area. even though the winds will continue to taper in the overnight hours and into tomorrow morning we will see them pick up again tomorrow afternoon and evening which is not good for firefighter. -- firefighters. this is a picture posted to my facebook where you can see how bad and how heavy the smoke was in the area. he mentioned at 10:00 p.m. the smoke wasn't as bad. i will be back with a look at the weekend forecast. dan? >> thanks a lot. you can download the free abc7 news app to get the latest information on these and other fires push for instant

updates. the app is free to download and for smartphones and tablets and the apple watch. getting across the bay this weekend could be really rough. bart is shutting down service between oakland and san francisco for track maintenance and work on muni may make it worse. sergio joins us live from san francisco with the story. sergio? >> it will be a double whammy for subway riders. if you ride the muni metro pines to downtown and into the west portal district they will not be running past 10:00. you will have to catch a surface bus. if you catch bart between san francisco and oakland as of the last train tonight the service between here and there is not going to resume until monday. for the next month it will not be a travel option past 10:00 p.m. >> i work in the ferry building and people get out past 9:00 at night. it will be unfortunate for them. i don't know how they will find a way to get home unless

they navigate the bus system. >> muni metro trains will resume service for the morning commute and for the rest of the weekend the bart train will not run through the trans bay tube. workers have started to set up signs to direct passengers to the temporary bus ridge. but they recommend they avoid a cross bay road trip if possible. >> they recommend the lifeline service only. don't depend on that. it will delay your trip by an average of one to two hours extra what it would take on the trans bay. >> it may not be an option for weekday workers. the shutdown was a sprays. he was visiting from toronto and staying in san francisco. he wanted to go to a second a's game this weekend with his friends. >> we will be taking uber or a cab. that's one big headache. >> it will be shutdown until monday morning so they can place transfer rails. they will do it labor day

weekend to finish the job. abc7 news. >> and bart has a lot of information about how to get around without trans bay service. we have the information on our website, abc7 fuse.com. police are making a dent in some of the many car thefts in san francisco. during a city wide campaign in may, officers in uniform and undercover canvased the streets and recovered 89 vehicles that were reported stolen. police say some of the stolen cars were used in robberies, shootings and burglaries. they arrested more than 40 people. police say some are serial car burglars. in this drought you probably noticed an over spraying sprinkler and some kind of a leak of some kind and people wasting water. now you can report it. there is a website where you can report those who use too much h2o. you can go there for investigation and enforcement. you can remain anonymous. go to abc7news.com and lack for this story there.

now if you think you see water being wasted where you live go to abc7 listens. we will check it out and look foo as many tips as we possibly can. and arborists are worried about a ripple effect. trees are becoming neglected and becoming diseased or dying that can cause permanent damage. 12 million trees have died over the past year. tonight hewlett-packard is backtracking after trying to make some of its workers in silicon valley ditch the jeans and t-shirts at the office. in that industry every day is casual friday so workers pushed back. katie is in san jose. >> it started with a leaked memo. they asked some programmers to step it up. new rules included no t-shirts jeans, baseball caps or sandals. >> the idea of an engineer is having to have anything other than the jeans and t-shirts

covering cupertino, concord, wine country and all the bay area. this is abc7 news. >> several of osama bin laden's relatives were killed in a private jet crash in southern england. the jet which is owned by bin laden's family overshot the runway at a small airport south of london. the jet crashed through a

fence and into a lot of parked cars before bursting into a fireball. there were no injuries reported on the ground but no one on the aircraft survived. an airport spokesman told media the jet crashed while trying to make a landing. an investigation into what exactly caused the crash is just beginning. a concert in the east bay will help hundreds of budding musicians. abc7 news was in hayward for the annual jennie lynn summer youth concert. 300 bay area students honored the 14-year-old and raised moip for music education and child safety. cheryl jennings emceed the event. she was stabbed to death. the crime is unsolved. >> a woman is facing unlawful entry charges after jumping the white house fence about 7:00. she was immediately arrested. security made the fence more

difficult to climb after a man got over it. >> mark zukerberg are expecting. lyanne melendez has the story. >> the zuckerbergs decided to go public because they are far enough along that the risk of losing the baby is low. she suffered three miscarriages during her three-year marriage. he said his wife's miscarriages were a lonely experience. they wouldn't talk about it with their friends. he now says this is a great opportunity to begin a dialogue. we hope sharing our experience will help others feel more comfortable sharing their stories as well. >> a lot of pregnancies end in miscarriage. >> reporter: medical reports

this heat. the humidity is slowly going away. live doppler 7hd is showing the cloud cover that is pretty solid. it is not just near the coast, but parts of the bay. temperatures at this hour in the 60s across the entire region. and here is a live look from our exploratorium camera of the low cloudiness. we will call it fog near the coast and bay. mild to warm tomorrow with a cooler pattern setting up sunday to tuesday. the warmer spot in the up you are 80s thanks to a stronger marine influence. we even had pockets of moisture move in the monsoonal moisture. it resulted in isolated showers, trace amounts. most missed the bay area. it was over the sierra and right over the pacific ocean. we had quite a few thunderstorms develop. we will see the low clouds continue with some high clouds added to the mix. at times they may feel a bit muggy, but it will be back to normal by saturday evening. going into sunday it will feel like the bay area again.

just in case you are getting away on vacation headed to hawaii hurricane guillermo in the pacific is packing winds of 105 miles an hour and gusts to 125. category 2 hurricane moving quickly west northwest at 20. it is going to maintain its strength and then weaken to a category 1 and eventually a tropical storm. wednesday morning it will get close to the hawaiian islands. at this point monitor and we will keep you posted in case it affects your travel plans. tomorrow morning here in bay area, it will be mild. upper 50s to low 60s and there will be quite a bit of cloud cover. tomorrow afternoon in the south bay a lot like today. 88 in gilroy and low 80s san jose and santa clara. 85 los gatos. 78 in menlo park and 79 redwood city. san mateo 70s. a beautiful day. 64 pacifica and 66 half moon bay. you will hang on to the gray well into the afternoon. mid60s daly city.

and in the north bay, a narrower range of temperatures. 60s coates side. 78 in san rafael. 81 santa rosa and 79 in napa. filtered sun in the east bay as we continue to see the high clouds. 73 in olympic -- in oakland. you will be warm but not too hot. 85 walnut creek. if you are going to the a's game it will be quite mild. beautiful weather for the game. a look at the accu-weather forecast? don't worry about it being too hot. numbers will drop a little more. monday we bottom out. 84 for our warmest spots. this a nice change of space. hopefully it will help those battling fires. >> we need a break. >> thank you, sand yaw.

he slides high and late and the next batter pops up and flips his bat. he started yelling and the benches clear. he goes on to win it 6-3 and they drop a game and a half. oakland had two hits last night and only one hit tonight. this isn't even it. it is 1-0a's. in the seventh he gets a gift in return. this time he returns the favor and it is 1-1. indians pitchers had 28 straight a's batters and cleveland gets one run in the 9th. they had three hits in the last two games. they fall 2-1. on wednesday the mets' short stop thinking he was traded.
