>> lawrence: that's right, hometown, too. >> ainsley: that's right, dallas. >> carley: "fox & friends" starts right now and remember your mornings are better with friends. >> brian: let's talk about weather, straight to a fox weather alert. dangerous storms moving through louisiana, battering texas, killing four in houston over 1 million in louisiana and texas are waking up with no power this morning. there is widespread damage and outages across houston, harris county as intense rain flooded into stores, blew out windows and downtown high rises. >> ainsley: heavy rain leaking through the retractible roof at minute maid park where the houston astros were playing. >> brian: wow. >> we are inside minute maid park and the winds are so strong they are blowing straight in. >> lawrence: nearly 10 million people are under tornado watches across the gulf region and the risk for severe flash flooding is being described as a nightmare scenario. let's check in with senior

meteorologist janice dean for our fox weather forecast. janice, you said there's no watches. >> janice: no watches right now. last night we had many watches. as you mentioned millions of folks were under tornado watches, including our fourth biggest city houston, texas. we had damage, a lot of damage. people are going to be waking up around the houston area, you know, in some cases with a lot of their homes completely gone. we had winds in excess of 57 miles per hour. so a lot of people were saying this is like a hurricane. hurricane force winds and then you had the flooding and then the power outages continue for close to a million folks in and around the houston metro area. the damage is extensive. this time yesterday we were talking about the severe weather. including flooding, including those severe storms and it came true last night and yesterday afternoon. so here's the power outage tracker for louisiana. so the storms continue to move eastward across the mississippi river valley. we do have the potential for stronger storms for parts of mississippi, alabama into

florida. a couple of severe thunderstorm warnings around the corpus christi area north of new orleans and south of the tallahassee, florida area where we have lots of lightning with these storms, heavy rainfall, and the flood alerts continue. even though the storm is out of texas, the rivers and the streams are still rising and they still have to crest. so flood warnings here across the gulf coast states in towards florida. and there's the flash flood risk. not as bad as it was yesterday but certainly something to watch for as we go through today and saturday. river flooding. okay. so even though the storm has moved eastward, we are still going to see the potential for the flooding and just within the last hour, i have seen more major river flooding in the texas area. a lot of these rivers and streams funnel into the bigger cities and, again, that's going to be a big problem. in some cases we were talking about flood alerts that they haven't seen since hurricane harvey in 2017 for texas. i have said this a lot of times. it doesn't take a hurricane. it doesn't take a named storm.

it doesn't take a tropical storm system to cause extensive damage for some of these vulnerable areas. especially the houston area. along the east coast, along the gulf coast, rather, see the potential for stronger storms, the northern plains as well. it's going to be a messy weekend for a lot of cities across the eastern u.s. so we will continue to keep you up to date. the damage we are going to see this morning in and around the houston area is going to be extensive. >> lawrence: we are praying for my home state, j.d., thank you for keeping us posted. >> ainsley: thank you, janice. turning now to more headlines this morning to jordanian nationals are in ice custody after they allegedly tried to break into a marine base in quantico, virginia on may 3rd. a base spokesperson says the pair were stopped at the gate while they were riding in a box truck. the deputy director at us customs enforcement told us they are in removal proceedings but would not confirm whether they crossed the border. meanwhile, border crossings are surging under joe biden. the cbp reports 1.6 million

got-aways between fiscal years 21, 2021 and 2023. that's more than there were during the decade from 2010 to 2020. police clearing out anti-israel protesters from an abandoned building near uc berkeley. according to a university spokesman, at least 12 people have been arrested there and that number is expected to go up. at least 100 officers were on the scene clearing everybody out. new overnight, israel striking targets across southern lebanon in response to hezbollah, drone and rocket attacks. according to the idf, one of the enemy drones was taken down by air defenses and another one crashed. meanwhile, the first aid trucks are now rolling into gaza over the new floating pier that was build by the u.s. military. centcom says no u.s. troops went ashore. texas' governor greg abbott issuing a full pardon for army sergeant daniel perry convicted

last year of murdering an armed protesters during a black lives matter protest in 2020. he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the death of jarrett foster. perry told police that he shot foster in self-defense after foster pointed a rifle at him while he was in his car. abbott issuing the pardon after unanimous recommendation by the parole board. perry's attorney says he is elated now to be free. new jersey senator bob menendez's corruption trial resumes this morning at 9:30 eastern time one day on day one of testimony jurors were shown the gold bars that the democrat allegedly accepted that are at the heart of this bribery case. there's a picture of him. we are also learning that menendez's wife and co-defendant nadine menendez has been diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. senator menendez is accused of taking luxury gifts in exchange for his influence. is he also charged with acting as a foreign agent for egypt. now, to the 2024 acm awards in

looks like. wherever the news is, he will take advantage of it. so that happened yesterday. he posted on x. this was what he posted. this is great news for america's retirement accounts and another sign of confidence in america's economy. i'm building an economy from the middle out and bottom up. and our investments are making a difference. >> lawrence: i just love how they are acting as if this is improving the life of the american people. a chief economist paul donovan put it this way. people don't tend to think in terms of inflation, economists do. he later on said but economists are not normal people. normal people think in terms of price levels. when you look at this administration, they are judging all these outside factors and not what is really impacting the american people on the day to day. so, of course they are saying this is a victory but the administration, look at the stock market, but when people are going into the grocery stores, they are not seeing it. but, again, this is a change from the biden administration because he once said something different. watch.

>> i don't look at the stock market as a means by which to judge the economy like my predecessor did. some people started seeing the stock market and corporate profits and executive pay as the only measure for domenic growth. my measure 6 economic success is how families like mine growing up working families, busting their neck how they are doing. >> stock market doesn't necessarily reflect the state of the economy, as you well know. and the economy is still strong. >> brian: right. you can't have it both ways but i guess he does want to. it's over 40,000. it's significant. inflation went be from 3.5 to 3.4. maybe a rate cut could be coming. i guess that factored into everything. if you have a 401(k) you are happy. one thing about it president trump had no problem hailing the stock market. and joe biden had no problem for criticizing president trump for hailing the stock market and now he says i love the stock market. >> lawrence: the point is you have got to have both.

when donald trump had the stock market and the record gains in the stock market. people were making more money. you have unemployment rate down. you have people had high income wages. so you got have all of the -- you just can't choose one metric, inflation was down. you can't just choose one metric, which is the stock market, and celebrate that. when part of it is down, when it comes to the unemployment, as well as it comes to inflation up. the average americans are being hit. >> well, don't forget, when he came into office, the inflation rate was 1.4. it went up really high to 9.1. now we are at 3.4. yes, that's better than 9. but it's still 2 points higher than it was when he came into office. people are still struggling to pay their bills. we hear it all the time when we go to the diners. look at that, groceries are up. also the interest rates are sky high. if you can't afford something and you put something on your credit card, you are paying a lot of money, extra, that you don't have to pay for those eggs, to pay for the bacon, to

pay for the things to feed your family. that's what america is struggling with right now. it seems to be that that's the number one issue when we go out and talk to the voters that it's just their bank accounts are dwindling and they are not getting pay raises to keep up with that. >> brian: especially if you like ice pops and eggs. you just showed a lot of eggs and ice pops and now we have got meat. when you look overall at what this president has got to do. there is a degree of panic this week. i'm going to have an emergency debate. ready to go. two debates. then he realizes down with minorities, not a blip or a poll it's reality. reaching out at the african-american museum with a speech. giving the commencement address more house college historically black college in atlanta. look at other people who used to and actually did a zoom interview during the pandemic in 2020 with joe biden. and i'm talking about -- >> ainsley: and don't forget jim clyburn. now is he sending him out to four different states to talk to

upset that there is solutions to it. there is a solution. i know there is a solution. because, you are spending billions of dollars on any f'ing thing. >> brian: right. and she has a constituency. she says most of her family is working class. she made it. she had a tough upbringing. she has made it. but most of the people she hangs out with and goes back to on thanksgiving aren't and are hurting. >> lawrence: not only did she make it. this is someone that is trying to go back to the community to advance it. the reality that democrats have to deal with okay. there are some people within the community that don't like the trump personality. okay. you got that but then you have some people that were in that same community that benefited from the trump economy and the position on the border as well as foreign policy. what are they going to do? either they are going to switch over and vote for trump which we start to see some of the polling numbers. you know donald trump made gains whether it comes to the black vote or stay at home. as "the washington post" says in

of his way because he explained the $130,000 transaction was all his idea. he said donald trump had nothing to do with it. >> brian: so, bob costello, he was asked about that, and he says i don't recall having that conversation with him. if you are defense, would you bring that witness to the stand? >> it's very powerful testimony for sure. i think the defense has enough to argue reasonable doubt here. they could go down that path and i think they are certainly considering it. >> what would you be looking at if you are defense counsel? my whole line would be the jury. what is their body language likes a they hear michael cohen caught in a lie? do they feel they have to knock him out with someone like bob costello a former prosecutor in the southern district of new york. >> the only consideration for the defense is whether it's going to open any other doors up with any credibility attacks on mr. costello himself and convolute the issue versus just arguing reasonable doubt in closing and arguing that the prosecution failed to meet their burden because they have more

cares have become. the average cost for one child is over $11,500. a 23% jump from 2017. the cost for two kids in child care exceed average rent payments by at least 25% nationwide and is more than double that in eight states in d.c. our next guest has spent at least 10,000 per year for part time child care for children. patrice is the director of the center for economic opportunity at the independent women's forum and joins us now. how are you doing my friend? >> good to see you again. >> lawrence: so, patrice, when i see a problem, i always want to know who the villain is. who is responsible for making the costs so high? >> well, part of it is the government. not surprisingly. the regulation that are imposed on child karen centers, child care providers actually makes it more expensive. a study from a few years ago

found if you were to cut back on some of those regulations that don't impact the quality of care and the safety for kids but all the other excess regulations, you could be saving 900 to even close to $2,000 per child per year. so, deregulatory agenda frankly is the right way to go. >> lawrence: you know, you would think that the regulations were protecting the children. it seems like, you know, i used to be on the dallas county child protective services board. and they were always at the child care facilities for some type of abuse or anything. so, is the regulation even working to protect the kids after all of these certifications? >> not necessarily. and i think you are making an interesting point about, you know, what the level of certifications are needed, you know, what every provider needs to look like. every child care center needs to look like.

and, you know, i think there is room for there to be reforms and reconsiderations. you see my son there to goes to a child care city. i have had two kids in child care centers for the past almost five years now. i see the difficulty for them. the labor costs is also a big driver there, lawrence. because, you know, when states impose new mandates around minimum wages, that means wages -- have to be increased for all the different child care providers. and let's also put to bed this idea well let's subsidize the federal government should is you is i dyes care. no, that is actually going to lead to less options. fewer child care providers can deal -- be able to compete. i think you are going to see the home based providers go out of business. subsidized market. i think a lot of people who would rather have their aunts and uncles and their family members take care of their kids, they may be incentivized to go to the child care centers where the federal government spends the dollars. so, what i think we need is
