many of our families and many of the larger cities where we are having this problem is not reflective of all the parents, but it is a big issue when there is no accountability. when parents are not setting boundaries, you know, holding their children accountable and allowing them to stake out at all hours of the night without any curfew. we see this day after day in the city. parents are going to have to step up and start being parents. and not try to be the friends of their children and show them some love and some care. and direct your children down the right path, rather than what we are seeing too often in cities across the country. >> laura: you're here, reverent, and i say this and i have three teenagers. i say, you might not like me now, but you will love me when you're 25 because i'm not your friend.

i am your mother. they kind of shrugged their shoulders, but it is not easy for anyone out there. but the filming, reverend, the attacks and the assaults on children, the privilege football players in arizona, i missed this story. then they post about it and they even brag about it here this is totally heartbreaking. i guess, they think it is cool or they fear no consequences. what is it? >> well, there is no consequence. that is the problem when kids are getting in trouble every day. you know, they were going through the judicial system, but there are no consequences. if you have no consequences at home and you have no consequences when it comes to the judicial system, there is no deterrent. these kids continue to escalate their behavior until someone being shot or injured or being killed. we have to have accountability if we are going to get a hold of this urban youth gun violence problem that is leading to too

many kids, you know, being shot or either shot or killed. >> laura: now, what rules, reverend, do you set for your teenagers when it comes to going out? what do you suggest to other parents out there who feel like they can do -- they are under pressure for sometimes other parents to let your kid do this or that? >> well, my kids know that they have a curfew. and when they want to go somewhere, they have a discussion with me and my wife. we try to make a decision whether they are going is going to be safe. recently, my daughter went to a party. i let her go. about her father was in the parking lot. i stayed in the parking lot when she went to the party and she knew what time she had to leave. she came out here that is the role i play. i understand the dangers kids are facing today. my kids understand, i love them and i want them to be young, but
