hour. gillian: i'm guillain turner ane expecting major engineering challenges and digging through some of the debris now. madeleine rivera out on the water with the latest for us. hi. reporter: hey, good afternoon, gillian. i was told by a member of unified command that no work has begun to lift the debris from the water. you'll see it right behind me over there. i am told that they're finishing up their plan of action here. the primary challenge for crews here is trying to figure out how to break up the bridge on the dolly into smaller pieces that weighs between 3-4,000 tons and the cranes heading to the area can only lift between 150-1,000 tons so that span of the bridge has to be broken up
10:02 am
and once that is done, the work can begin to lift that off the bridge and start clearing off this channel. moments ago though, we saw another crane arrive to the site and crews here are planning to scale up the response over the next five days to seven cranes, ten tugs, nine bathrooms and the hope is to get enough -- nine barges and hope is to get enough debris clear so maryland police divers can go back into the water to look for the four missing people presumably dead. the hope is to bring closure for the families then of course there's the work as well to open up this channel to allow vessels to come back and forth. here's maryland governor wes moore. >> we're talking about a port responsible for upwards of $191 million of economic cassioppiivity and port of baltimore employing over 8,000 workers directly. then 10,000 more indirectly. so this is -- this has a significant impact on the american economy. reporter: the ntsb has been on

board the vessel and spoken to the pilot and there was a data out age minutes before hitting and investigation could take one to two years to complete and there's that upcoming news conference and hoping to hear more details about the upcoming investigation then. gillian. gillian: thank you for that. griff. griff: gillian, let's dig in on the bridge collapse and capitalist pig hedge fund manager and fox news contributor jonathan hoenig for being here. nobody better to help understand this and we keep hearing governor wes m moore and watchig and he'll likely take to the microphone and we'll bring it to you. this impacts baltimore and 8,000 jobs directly tied to it and $2 million of wage as day being lost but he keeps talking about how it affects the country nationally. how farmers in kentucky are
10:04 am
impacted. how car dealers in michigan are impacted. what do you make of the impact this is happening? >> yeah, griff, we're talking about ninth busiest port in the entire country. so, yes, this is a terrible human tragedy, but also unfolding economic tragedy. 4,000 truck as day go over this bridge, 12 million car as year. all that traffic, all those deliveries, all that business activity will now need to be rerouted no less than 30 miles. the port of baltimore again, it is one day's drive within a third of the country. it's the busiest port when it comes to cars, farm equipment, major port when it cops to sugar and coal. major operators like bmw, amazon, under armour, fedex have operations there and this comes, griff, at a time when every day american costs are going up as it is when it cops to inflation, costs will go up as a result of this terrible accident. griff: you pivoted me, jonathan, job well done. the other thing when i realized we had a opportunity to talk yo
10:05 am
you, i said let's talk about the new fox polls because i'm perplexed if you look at this and gill i n turner talked about this with the political panel. the age-old question, are you better off now or worse. here is what the fox news latest polling found. 52% are works off. so when i hear the white house talk about how strong the economy is but in the poll 52% say worse off. those two don't go together. explain that to me. >> look at inflation data itself. we got pce number out on friday, griff. that's federal reserve is one of their favorite indicators of inflation. it's still running hotter than the federal reserve would like or had expected. so every day americans are impacked most and inflation is not a wall street phenomena but main street and americans are paying some 28% more now for
10:06 am
groceries than just two years ago and gas is now up above $4 a goll lon in most f -- gallon in most of the country and all the talk in dc and washington and biden talking about inflation ebbing so many indicators on main street and wall street suggesting it's heating up once again. griff: the fox poll between biden and trump and the radio music hall with president obama and clinton were there and president obama was talking about how well, you know, when your paycheck gets stretched, you know, that's a reality and he understands that and people are obviously as you just eloquently pointed out getting hammered by inflation but there's a choice he says. well. our fox news poll found this, who do you trust to do a better job when it comes specifically to the economy? 15 point difference, trump up
10:07 am
56% to 41. do you think this is going to factor into november's election? >> well, the ironny, griff, is that the president who really did much to combat the 1970s era inflation was reagan, but it was actually a democrat, jimmy carter that dramatically cut spending towards the end of his term. he had to with interest rates at the time running north of 10%. you know, whether it's president trump, whether it's president biden, so many on wall street are alarmed at the size of the debt. not just between individuals but government itself near all time high and debt fuels the inflation. cheryl: congressman president can get the debt under control you'll see wall street and inflation data writ large respond accordingly. griff: listen, there's no doubt that, you know, the white house is going to have an uphill climb trying to convince americans that bidenomics is good for them and in our data americans aren't feeling the benefit.
10:08 am
is there a chance they're gambling that by november they're going to see it very differently and might not feel that pinch as much at the pump or grocery store? >> their trend is not our friend when it comes to inflation, griff. there's been a lot of happy talk and optimistic talk by janet yell and others. but every day americans are falling behind and working more and employment data is strong and working more on inflation-adjusted basis they're making less. despite effects of encouraging numbers s many americans are feeling that pinch of inflation in their quality of life is suffering as a result. griff: back to where we began and that's baltimore. sort of a more general question because when we have the conversation about the election and economy nationally and go like i did this week and cover this tragic accident in baltimore, you realize in spenting all my time with people
10:09 am
that live within that bridge bay community, 8,000 jobs are tied to it but another additional 10-15,000 more that are somehow tied to it and you've got, i would go to restaurants, i would go to stores and people want to talk about it. they've seen our coverage and they said, listen, my uncle is not working now. we don't know what we're going to do. the state legislature is now trying to scramble. seems that ultimately the old political addage is grab the pocketbook and hearts and minds follow and i'm learning taxpayers macro impact rather than micro-impact. >> actually with respect, griff, those numbers might be low. even pete buttigieg himself estimate that had 140,000 jobs could be directly impacted by this. reminds me very much of what the famous economist bastiet talked about what's seen and unseen. at a time when so many americans in that area are struggling and recent data showing we're paying
10:10 am
about 11,000 extra for the same basket of goods and services that we were just two and a half years ago and many americans are struggling ands additional cost and travel costs and the additional expense is going to weigh especially on americans in this part of the country. no question because of this terrible bridge collapse. griff: great insight as always. jonathan hoenig. have a great weekend. >> thanks, griff. be well. gillian: president biden staying at camp david for the remainder of the easter weekend. this is despite criticism from the week's event with former presidents obama and clinton, lucas tomlinson joining us from 1600 pennsylvania avenue with a look at the fallout. >> that's right. biden campaign sees a path to victory through fundraising and using cash to flood the air waves with ads to drone out the procespedesers that seem to be following -- processers that follow the president everywhere. >> shame on you, joe biden! sham on you!
10:11 am
shame on you! reporter: the latest fundraising numbers are in and in february show ago sizable advantage for president biden 53 million to 20 ml. trump behind hillary clinton in the fundraising department in 2016, but that didn't stop him from winning. he lost four years ago and we're now set for our first presidential rematch since eisenhower and stevenson in 1956. biden perhaps hoping the appearance on stage in new york at that fundraiser with former presidents barack obama and bill clinton reminder of better times in u.s. history. his poll numbers offer a reality check and 30% approve of handling of immigration and majority of voters polled disapprove of handling of inflation and the economy and prices up about 20% since biden took office. didn't hear much about bidenomics at that event or in the white house recently and in new york, biden focused on something else. >> i think our democracy is at stake. not a joke. democracy is literally at stake. look, i wasn't going to run in 2020 because i just lost my son

10:13 am
the out going head of the u.s. military in the pacific warned congress, china's military is getting more aggressive. >> things are trending in the wrong direction. they are continuing to develop their military machine despite an economy that has significant problems. their actions are becoming much more belligerent. >> tensions rising and they've presented congress with a $2.2 billion wish list and 13 items they say are needed due to congress' repeated delays. continuing resolutions to defense funding bills since october and to the house republicans blocking the sublemore cal bill to fund ukraine, taiwan, and israel's defense needs. >> so he thinksly operating under cr is like operating with one armed tied behind your back. you're not able to do it effectively. >> the wish list includes $92.9 million to buy more missiles for the navy's depleted fifth fleet, which has faced more than 100 houthi attacks

10:16 am
>> gillian, first, thanks for having me on. second, you're right. this is tough domestically for president biden. president biden and most of our leaders republican and democrat know that share shared values with a common security interest in deterring iran and other islamic extremists from a region critically important. they're going to work through this as they've seen they had a major dust up last week oaf u.s. not voting against a un vote and prime minister netanyahu canceling important visit for the next stage of the war, but that visit is back on. both sides now owe can't deal with the overall situation without dealing with the issue on the border of israel and rafah. gillian: the administration is pressuring netanyahu to abstain from some kind of a official

ground incursion from gaza. do you see a way to eric ra eradicate hamas without going into rafah? >> no, but i was managing the political side of the fight against islamic state in iraq and syria in 2019 and 2020. we used tactics varicose veins similar to those israel used a smashing cities such as mosul and iraq and massive syrian and infantry attacks and bombardment and artillery barrages. there's no other way to do it. be more careful than israeli haves been, but that comes at the coast of time and additional israeli losses. they'll work something out i believe between them but again, with or without american support, israel will go away sooner or later.
10:18 am
gillian: do you believe that israel is held to higher standards by the international community by the way they're allowed to behave in self-defense during times of war? >> of course. that's the short answer but long answer is a whole college seminar on how the international community treats israel in a uniquely bad fashion. absolutely. the israelis again, the war crime is not just october 7 by hamas. it's hamas boroughing down in a civilian area. that's a war crime. the un's highest court didn't say israel is conducting war crimes like it did in the southh china sea and said be more careful with civilians and that's true. israel has been negligent there frankly. gillian: the fact that a regime like communist china and the communist regime in china or

10:20 am
very loud in this country. they're becoming increasingly mountain malevolent, but the reality according to fox news latest polling anyway is that the reality remains as it has long been that most americans side with israelis in the conflict. 59% of people polled in february support israel versus 28% supporting the palestinians. it's actually growing year on year for the most part. kind of shows up a little bit in the very loud voices we're hearing. >> look, i'm old enough like most of your viewers to remember vietnam and loud protesters then despite that pro finish the vietnam war forces nixon in special teams' 68 and '72 won by 49 out of 50 states and the american people never gave up on
