1:00 am
>> joe biden's state of the union address is in the books and it was bizarre, to put it mildly. let's see how the media mob tries to spin it. more on that tomorrow. that is all the time this evening. thank you for being with us. let not your heart be troubled, trace gallagher is coming up next. have a great night. >> trace: i'm trace gallagher, 9:00 in los angeles, this is
1:01 am
"america's late news, fox news at night." pushback underway, republicans crying foul to many claims president made in his state of the union address which sounded like a campaign speech remreet with promises and a few swipes at his opponent. president biden hoped to put aside concern about his age. many saying he sounded angry and difficult to understand. we have live team coverage tonight, response from katie britt youngest republican female ever elected to the senate. kevin corke has more. >> kevin: tonight's state of the union address was like showing your opponent your playbook before an upcoming game. if you are the gop, you have to look at this speech as the crib notes for november.
1:02 am
keep that in mind. for president biden, tonight's address was about more than just a speech, it was emphatic declaration to say i'm here, i'm the man for the job and our country's future is bright. >> president biden: because of you, tonight we can proudly say the state of our union is strong and getting stronger. >> kevin: yes, he was a little loud and very hyped up, but he was emphatic. mr. biden went after republicans over access to abortion and ivf, stocking fear among women voters in way that helped democrats in previous election cycles. >> president biden: those bragging about overturning roe v. wade have no clue about the power of women. they found out when reproductive freedom was on the ballot and we will win again in 2024. >> kevin: obviously hyped up
1:03 am
there, i counted 37 slurs or stumbles, he was going fast at points and took some time on this issue. we are talking border security. it was in the spotlight with the president reacting to calls to mention the name of laken riley, the georgia nursing student who was killed by a man who should not have been in this country. >> president biden: lincoln riley, who was killed by an illegal. how many thousands people being killed by illegals. to her parents, my parents go out to you, having lost parents myself. i understand. >> kevin: memorable moment there. the speech lasted an hour and seven minutes according to my count. 107 applause lines devoid of bipartisanship and that's a fair statement. >> trace: a lot of people on
1:04 am
social media noticed he said lincoln instead of laken riley. kevin, thank you. republican response to biden speech, katie britt of alabama, did the honor with heavy dose of truth social input from former president trump. marianne rafferty is live with that. good evening. gop response delivered by youngest female senator and first woman elected from alabama. she began talking about her worry as a mom of two and what we will pass on for future generations, citing bidenomics, border security and crime. >> the country we know and love seems to be slipping away and seems the next generation will have less opportunity and freedoms than we did. i worry my own children may not get a shot at living their american dreams. >> president biden mentioning flow of illegal migrants, asking republicans to pass a bill after the most recent bill failed,
1:05 am
katie britt to stop border policies that were working. >> we know president biden did not just create this border crisis, he invited it. president biden's border policies are a disgrace. this crisis is despicable and the truth is, it is almost entirely preventable. >> meanwhile on truth social, former president trump posted fast and furious realtime play-by-play throughout the state of the union address loading his timeline with memes and signature sharp wit, calling the border bill disaster and biden talked about sneakers bars before talking about the border and attempted to fact check biden on february 6, nato and economy stating there were lies in the speech, but people of our country get it and november 5 will be most important day in our nation's history.
1:06 am
trump posted katie britt did a great job, contrast to the angry and disturbed president biden. trump said the story tonight, biden got through it and is still breathing. >> trace: interesting he did snickers before the border. thank you. bring in jl partner's scarlet maguire and princeton university's lauren wright. lauren, he said threat to democracy or talked about threat to democracy several times in the first few minutes of the speech. here is one. listen and i'll get your response. >> president biden: i see a future where defending democracy you don't diminish it, protect freedoms, not take them away. >> trace: you can see where the campaign is going, that is going to be a big push coming toward november. >> yes, way he started being
1:07 am
strong against putin, talking about ukraine made sense. he transitioned to january 6, polling the catch up to him. perhaps voters should care more than they do and think about it more and talk about it more, it ranks among lowest issues on their list, that ordering, i was surprised by and didn't understand the strategy. >> trace: what about you beverly hallberg? we talked with kevin and a lot of people on social media said he sounded angry and spoke very fast, sometimes indecipherable. what did you think about the delivery, tone and tenor? >> he came out wanting to give a strong delivery because this was a time for him to speak to his own base, this wasn't to get nikki haley voters or independent voters, it was actually -- >> trace: yep?
1:08 am
did we lose beverly? >> sorry, i hear you now. i think i got it back, sorry about that. what he was trying to do is reach out to his own base to try to win them over. i think that was the huge problem with this. even though he was angry and he was able to make it through it, there were still plenty of stumbles in it. >> trace: i thought you were doing a biden impersonation, timing was spot on, beverly. he talked about the economy, scarlet and i'll get your take, this is call for to, the economy. >> president biden: i inherited economy on the brink and now our economy is envy of the world. 15 million new jobs in three years, a record, a record. >> trace: here is what he doesn't get, i will put this on the screen. this five guys receipt has gotten social media time. burgers, fries and a coke was
1:09 am
$24, that is the part the president does not get and that is why he's deeply under water when it comes to people's prospects on the economy. your thoughts? >> you are absolutely right, voters do not think biden is doing a good job handling the economy and think trump would do a better job and did a better job when he was president, that goes a long way to explain why biden is struggling in the polls. that receipt is shocking, we are seeing way in which american prices are going crazily up, food prices, as well. you can see the economy is the envy of the world, but everyday americans are not feeling in day-to-day lives. >> trace: he talked about uniting the country and said this, watch. >> trace: again and again, i've seen contest between competing forces and battle between the soul of the nation, between those who want to pull america back to the past and those who
1:10 am
want to move america to the future. >> trace: the theme was about uniting the country and we want to unite the country, except half the country, we don't want republicans in the mix, what do you think? >> i think biden has good record on bipartisanship. he called out his friend, lindsey graham, this is what people like. message on the economy was divisive and he promised a lot of stuff, i have no idea he'll pay for. raising corporate tax rate will not get us close. yes, there are many examples of democrats pulling people backward and freedom and giving them less choice, as well as republican examples, which are the ones he's highlighting and he's right about some of them. >> trace: beverly, when you look at the overall speech, the content, was it more of a campaign speech in your estimation or do you think this was a regal state of the union
1:11 am
address? >> definitely not a regal state of the union address. state of the union is apparently angry and i think he was trying to ensure his base thinks he has stamina to get through election season and next four years. i think this was about fighting the impression he is too old to do this. i will say this, there are a lot of stumbles, when you compare this to his recent speeches he made it through far better than in the past. for him, he will look at this as victory. such a low bar, great point. the bar was very low. >> trace: it was a low bar and we talked about that before the state of the union address. people put the bar so low, they are saying if he can stay up there for the hour he needs to stay up there and get through this, then we'll applaud. you can bet if you look in "new york times" and "washington post," big headlines like hugely
1:12 am
successful speech, not hugely successful, but he did get through it. this last sound bite about hate, anger and retribution. >> president biden: people my age see it differently. the american story of resentment, revenge and retribution, that is not me. my fellow americans, issue facing our nation is not how old we are, it is how old are ideas. hate, anger, revenge, retribution are oldest of ideas. you can't lead america with ancient ideas that will only take us back. >> trace: maybe a clever frasz phrase, it is how old he is. 70 plus percent are like, he's too old. >> yeah, absolutely, americans think he is too old, not just republicans, democrats, as well and crucially independents. he is trying to throw forward
1:13 am
into future and show he can sell a campaign message for the next four years. when we asked voters what biden wanted for a second term, they said nothing. they are not sure of his goals and part of the problem, americans don't want to go backwards. a lot of americans feel the country is moving forward in the wrong direction. >> trace: a lot of people came away not knowing where he wants to go in the next four years. thank you all for coming on, we appreciate it. to immigration to talk about how president biden did or did not address the crisis on the southern border with sheriff mark lamb. sheriff, great to have you on the show. he talked a little bit about the back and forth with marjorie taylor greene and she was heckling him a little bit about his border. they went back and forth and he finally, she had a t-shirt on
1:14 am
that said laken riley, say her name. they had this, watch this. >> it is not about him, it is not about me. i'd be a winner -- not really -- i -- [cheering and boos] >> lincoln riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal. that's right. but how many thousands of people being killed by illegals? to her parents, my heart goes out to you having lost children myself. i understand. >> trace: two unusual parts, instead of laken riley, he said lincoln riley and went on to say how many thousands of people being killed by illegals. it was interesting, he messed the whole thing up. what were your thoughts about that? >> i agree with you, first thing
1:15 am
he should have said starting off state of the union, folks, we are going to close the border. he is underwater with people who want him to close the border across the united states. that should be his first priority, instead talking about snickers and amount of chips in a bag and paying more for ticketmaster tickets. i'm glad marjorie taylor greene called him out and you are right, most people did not catch it. he said thousands of people are dying by illegal aliens and i'm glad he recognized they are here illegally. >> trace: this is the president who many say broke the border and talking about what he needs to fix it. >> president biden: folks, simple choice, we can fight about fixing the border or we can fix it, i'm ready to fix it. send me the border bill now. >> trace: many people pointed
1:16 am
out, he has the power to fix it tomorrow and chooses not to. >> he plays the blame game. he spent first part of his speech doing the blame game. he is wrong, he can fix it. he doesn't need any bill under 212 f, he has all power to fix it, same power he used to undo trump's working policies, he can use to fix it again. >> trace: i'm running out of time, he said this and it was stunning, watch. >> president biden: all americans deserve the freedom to be safe and america is safer today than when i took office. >> trace: safer today than when he took office? with a straight face, sheriff, your final thoughts? >> that is a lie, people don't feel safe. when you are not holding people accountable, your statistics look great. if they were holding people accountable, they would realize
1:17 am
crime is on the rise and america is not happy. >> trace: thank you. >> thank you. >> president biden: imagine, imagine future of home care and elder care and people living with disabilities, they can stay in their home and family caregivers can get pay they deserve. tonight let's all agree once again to stand up for seniors. many of my friends want to put social security on the chopping block. if anyone here tries to cut social security or medicare, raise retirement age, i will stop you. >> trace: big policy points, attorney julie hamel and medical doctor human humani. thank you for coming on. he talked about lowering prices on healthcare and prescription drugs. he said this. it is called 48 k. >> i will get in trouble for saying that, get in air force
1:18 am
one and fly to toronto, berlin, moscow -- excuse me, even moscow probably and bring your prescription with you and i promise i will get it for you for 40% what you are playing now. >> trace: moscow line turned out to be funny, whether accurate or not, let that be up to you to decide. >> i think the idea of reducing prescription drug prices is great in reality, how in the world do we do that and have access to prescription drugs? the u.s. right now because rest of the world pays next to. what we pay $2500 for, in england they pay $50 for. if you have macular degeneration or certain cancer or arthritis, good luck getting most advanced latest drugs in other countries.
1:19 am
if we pay $50 or $100, companies will say forget it, you are not getting it either. if you want the drug, pay in cash. it will have a backfiring effect and you hear from companies they will stop developing new drug in anticipation of price controls. >> trace: julie, talked about education, never acknowledge education system in america is on the decline. he said the following. >> president biden: expand high quality tutoring and make sure every child learns to read by third grade. [applause] >> president biden: i'm also connecting local businesses and high school so students get hands on experience and good paying job whether or not they go to college. >> trace: he talks about kids learning to read by third grade. we have struggled to get kids in
1:20 am
eighth grade to learn math and read at grade level. >> d.c. is called hollywood for ugly people and that was on display tonight. these are well paid bad actors and everything he said was bs. everything was a lie. no good policy points made. you have people chanting, four more years, is anyone in their right mind hoping for that? in terms of education, he said we need to send weapons to ukraine. when he said that, i was thinking about my trip i took to sacramento with group of 60 kids from my school district. we went to sacramento to beg for money to pay for school facilities that are from the 1950s and 1960s. we have ceilings collapsing and floods in the school. we had to shut down during the storms last week. he is talking about big policy idea, big government, unions going to win.
1:21 am
we can't have basic infrastructure for our children. >> trace: good point. he did not mention censorship, he talked about, didn't say this administration has been censoring daylights out of everybody. 30 seconds. >> why would he talk about that. biden did right by avoiding the topics for which he is guilty. >> trace: and book banning, he talked about book banning, no context. nobody is wanting to ban books, they want to ban books with highly sexual content, that's it, and for elementary schools. if you want a certain book to be in libraries, come to school board and read it aloud. >> trace: some have tried it and been walked out of board meetings. thank you. we appreciate it. what president biden said about the israel-hamas war during the
1:22 am
state of the union as he continues to face political pressure, protesters even blocking his route to the capitol tonight. coming up, continuing coverage of the state of the union address, reaction and analysis after the break.

1:28 am
deadliest day for israeli people since the holocaust. >> trace: calling for immediate ceasefire in gaza. bring in former navy seal who trained with special forces, cameron. great to have you on. here is biden talking about a ceasefire with gaza. it is call for 11, watch. >> i've been working nonstop to establish ceasefire to get all prisoners released, all hostages released. get the hostages home and ease intoperable humanitarian crisis and build toward enduring, something more enduring. >> trace: a lot of people say he's walking this tightrope, trying to placate the progressive left and not alienate the jewish voters in this country who are largely democratic. your thoughts how this is
1:29 am
working out, cameron. >> i think you are absolutely right. this was not really a state of the union. this was a national disgrace, what we saw on stage. president biden has been wrong on foreign policy for past 40 years, even gates under obama admitted biden has not been right entire term as president. this individual is highly malleable, trying to please and placate the left, which is all over the map. from my perspective, going around israel, not providing proper aid and support they need and talking about building actual hub to bring in more humanitarian supplies with a port using army corps of engineer and other resources is a huge distraction from what we should be doing. >> trace: it really is. on that point, the administration, some call it a pier, port, a structure in gaza and the president said this
1:30 am
about it tonight. >> president biden: temporary pier will enable a massive increase in amount of humanitarian assistance getting into gaza everyday and israel must do its part and allow more aid into gaza and make sure humanitarian workers are not caught in the crossfire. >> trace: put workers in to build this pier or port to distribute aid to people of gaza. i'm unclear whether this is a good idea or not, cameron, what do you think? >> it is a misprioritization of our resources and time. this will come at cost to american taxpayer and i do nots think we can make that case. nobody talks about egypt, jordan and other nations could be assisting and they are not. putting this on the back of the american taxpayer when we have wide open southern border and
1:31 am
abhorrent responsibility. >> trace: he said china is not the threat we think it is. you have a lot of people, including his top generals that say no, china is threat number one and the fbi has parroted that. your last thoughts on that. >> china is difficult a surmountable foe. they are making preparation in their infrastructure and they have invaded and made great leads in cyber space. china needs to be taken seriously, we should be preparing our nation for potentially future conflict, especially under the likes of this administration. >> trace: it is notable, china militarized the south china sea and that is a scary concept. great to have you, thank you. coming up, continuing coverage of president biden's state of the union address which spotlight issue of abortion, a big spotlight. the president

>> trace: many believe president biden's state of the union address set some unofficial record tonight for number of interruptions and/or disruptions. chad pergram is live with more on that story. good evening. >> chad: good evening, disruption was the main theme tonight. a gold star father was arrested shouting about afghanistan and attack at abbey gate in 2021. >> president biden: america is safer today than when i took office. murder rates up 30%.
1:38 am
30% they went up. [screaming] >> president biden: biggest increase in history. >> chad: u.s. capitol police arrested a gold star father, his son is kareem who was killed during the administration's botched withdrawal from afghanistan. he was the visitor of brian mast. he was asked to stop and did not, charged about disrupting congress. lawmakers are upset about the arrest. >> to this day, president biden will not say to brian's name. that is shameful. >> i admire steve and i almost got kicked out myself because i couldn't stomach it. >> chad: that was not only
1:39 am
disr disruption. george santos was on the floor before the president's speech and he became just sixth house member ever expelled in december, former members can return to the floor after they leave. >> is this your first time back in the building? >> yes, my first time. >> you came why? >> state of the union, why not, i don't put anything past my desire to run for office at this point. right now, i'm a spectator. >> chad: santos announced he is running for congress, for the seat held by nick noloto, derek graves called santos a moron and graves says they should write a rule to keep santos out. >> trace: chad pergram live on capitol hill. thank you. >> president biden: those bragging have no clue about the power of women, they found out
1:40 am
when reproductive issues were on the ballot. we'll win again in 2024. [cheering] >> trace: president biden making prediction abortion rights will be on the ballot in november. bring in president of national federation of republican women, julie harris, and nicky beaver, along with pastor of first baptist dallas jeffress. it seems clear, julie, if you listen to the president's speech, abortion, they think this will be an effective topic for them in 2024. what would you say? >> well, trace, they think women are one issue voters and that is not the case. we care about economy, inflation and border security. i am pleased to announce national federation of republican women have enthusiastically endorsed
1:41 am
president trump and our 60,000 members who volunteer 14 million hours in last election positioned to increase that number to vote for the candidate who will protect our country by securing our border and strengthening our economy. >> trace: yeah, listen, pastor, i'm surprised he went after supreme court, but he did and here it is. >> president biden: many of you in this chamber, my predecessor promising to ban reproductive freedom. my god, what freedom else would you take away? all due respect, justices, women are not without electoral power. >> trace: you follow politics and evangelicals and what they think, what is your thought, pastor? >> this is a winning issue for president trump in november and it was a winning issue in 2016 and i hope the president will do the same thing he did to hillary clinton in 2016 and point out
1:42 am
that democrats would put no restrictions on abortion whatsoever. they believe in abortion for any reason. you don't like the gender of your baby, kill it. they believe at abortion any stage up until the baby is in the birth canal of the mother. thatten moos crushing a baby's skull, dismembering a baby's body, it is horrific. it is what hamas did and i'm saying it, when it comes to protecting children, no difference between joe biden, kamala harris and hamas, they are all barbarians and that is a winning message for president trump. >> trace: senator katie britt said the following, watch. >> we want to give you and your children the opportunities to thrive. and we want families to grow. it's why we strongly support continued nationwide access to
1:43 am
in vitro fertilization to help mothers and dads bring precious life into this world. >> trace: she is reinforcing the fact ivf is on, what do you think, nicky? >> that is great. the real issues in this election are about border security, economy, inflation and parental rights. we have to get president trump back in the white house november 2024 and solidify our country, get it back and make america great again. >> trace: i'm interested, you talk about the issues and go down the list and look at fox news polls, if we can put this up, katie, economy 37%, immigrant 21%, abortion 10% and goes down the list and julie, you look at this list and wonder why it is that there is so much
1:44 am
emphasis on topic number three. >> julie: they would have to discuss failed policy. nikki is correct, voters care about the economy and border. we are seeing that collide, economy and border collide and the child tax credit is about to expire. there is no -- there is a victim either way you go, the young families who don't get the child tax credit or economy of america if we give it with the crisis border. >> trace: pastor, do you think evangelicals have a different list? do you think in a different order or that is pretty much where they are? >> well, i think for example, regarding the border, that is
1:45 am
important issue and biblical issue, reason god created government to protect citizens. that is right thing to rally for. it strikes me that the democrats were saying tonight, joe biden, they want to put the right to kill children at the top of their agenda, the reason is wickedness of their hearts, that is what i believe. >> trace: we talked to sheriff mark lamb earlier and you talk about this and president biden will not admit any fault in what is happening with 10 million crossing the border. he knows he could fix it tomorrow, he has executive authority and keeps pointing fingers. your final thoughts. he keeps pointing fingers because he can't point at himself. he's failed, our border is wide open, over 10 million illegal immigrants, young women can't even go out and exercise and feel safe because of the risk
1:46 am
that we face in biden's america and to me that is incredibly sad and i am ready for a change in november of 2024. >> trace: thank you all for coming on, we appreciate it. coming up, final thoughts. where do we go from here and what does it all mean for the 2024 election? next. next we love being outside, but the sun makes our deck and patio too hot to enjoy. now thanks to our new sunsetter retractable awning, we can select full sun or instant shade in just 60 seconds. it's 20 degrees cooler under the sunsetter and we get instant protection from harmful uv rays and sun glare. for pricing starting at less than $1,000, transform your outdoor living space into a shaded retreat your family will love! when you call, we'll rush you a special $200 discount certificate with your free awning idea kit! you'll get your sunsetter for as little as $799. but, this is a limited time offer!
