maximum casualties on the hamas terrorists, which we are achieving day-by-day, hour by hour. we'll complete the task. >> dana: rich edson at the state department. jerusalem deputy mayor joining us here right in new york on set. first let's get to trey yengst live in southern israel. trey, what's the update from there today? >> good morning. it's day 38 of the war between israel and hamas. they ramped up air strikes hitting different hamas positions there. according to the palestinians the israelis were striking around gaza's second largest city supporting the infantry works working street by street in gaza. overnight israelis took over the port of gaza with the help of the israeli navy. they say the death toll among their soldiers has risen to 42 since the ground operation began. all of this is taking place as

international attention remains on the hospital in gaza city. we do have new images of another hospital in the northern part of gaza. you can see in the video released by the idf and overhead you hear an israeli drone gathering more information along the border. in the video you see a militant inside gaza with an rpg at the hospital. this militants after firing on israeli forces run into the hospital grounds. the israelis say they use the 188th brig gate to fight the militants inside the strip killing 21 members of hamas in this single incident. a sense of how difficult the battles are and where hamas is fighting from within civilian infrastructure. >> dana: thank you. mike. >> mike: leaked internal state department memo reportedly slams president biden's policy on the israel/hamas war urging him to reassess his support for the jewish state. rich edson has more from the

state department. >> good morning, mike. 100 state department employees signed onto this memo pushing the biden administration to demand a cease-fire in gaza. this is according to axios, taken a look at this memo here report saying quote members of the white house and national security council displayed a disregard for the lives of palestinians, documented unwillingness to de-escalate and prior to october 7th a reckless lack of strategic foresight. this as secretary of state blinken traveled to india last week said far too many palestinians have been killed. that's as critical as he has been of israel since the biden administration provided weapons and support to israel after terrorist attacks last month. it accuses president biden of spreading information in his speech when he declared that israel has a duty to respond to the vicious terrorist attacks. it accuses the administration of failing to reassess american

there is so much misinformation. first of all, two days ago they said we were siegeing the hospital. it was a lie. we had an escape route for the patients to take them to safety. hamas has embedded itself under the hospital would w floors and floors and floors of weapons, essentially a terrorist base under the hospital. why do they do that? they no israel will never purposefully target a hospital. the israeli army is in touch with hospital staff. they are taking energy, gasoline into hospital staff. >> dana: here is your prime minister talking about providing fuel, call for number three, please. >> we offered actually last night to give them enough fuel to operate the hospital, operate the incubators and so on. we have no battle with patients or with civilians at all. i think every civilian death, every dead baby is a tragedy. that tragedy should be placed at

-- accounting. >> mike: how critical is don junior's testimony today? >> i find it difficult, mike, to find any of this to be critical because of what don senior referred to there. the judge has already ruled that there was persistent fraud. and we're now in this kind of who is on first loop where they say that the trial is about how much fraud there was and then the trump defense comes back and says we don't think there was any fraud at all. the judge comes back and says i already found there was fraud. so this goes on and on. i think what would be interesting in the defense case is if they could bring in officers from the financial institutions and the insurance companies that transacted with the trump organization and if they came in and said we didn't feel like we were defrauded at all. we had a good business

relationship with them. everybody made money. that would be pretty compelling testimony. what i fear, though, is that this is such a vindictive case by the state, if you were running an insurance company or bank, would you want to go in and testify in front of trump knowing how they are when they are dealing just with trump? >> mike: his legal team has complained by new york attorney general letitia james. >> she is only there more importantly and more tellingly on the days there is heavy press. she doesn't come to court every day. she has never put a statement on the record in court. i'm not really sure if she practices. she definitely manages her pr and not very well if i may say. that's what she is there for. >> mike: what about that criticism, andy? >> i think she does manage her pr pretty well because this is a very political prosecution. she is an elected official. i think it is much better to

think of her as an elected democrat than a law enforcement officer and bringing this case is what got her elected. she campaigned in blue, blue new york that she would go after trump. >> mike: new york republican congresswoman stefanik filed an ethics complaint against the judge writing his bizarre behavior has no place in our judicial system. the judge is not honoring the defendant's rights to do process and a fair trial. what is the impact of that complaint? >> in new york, there is probably not much impact, mike. it would be nice to imagine that new york had a judicial system. what they have is a political system that is masquerading as a judicial system where even the judge is an elected democrat. >> mike: always great to have your perspective and analysis. thanks so much. >> thank you, mike. >> dana: just when you think you've seen it all. out of control theft forcing a

[chanting] >> mike: massive crowd of anti-israel demonstrators marching through the streets of london over the weekend. more than 100,000 people marched against anti-semitism in paris. senior foreign affairs correspondent greg palkot is live in london. >> you're right, a tale of two cities and two very different protests. yesterday in paris and in france, 180,000 marched against rising anti-semitism attacks in

the wake of the israel/hamas war. political leaders, far right figures taking part. not many incidents. france has the biggest population of jewish people in europe. in london a different story. 300,000 pro-palestinian marchers came out. big event through the heart of the city including right by the big u.s. embassy building. a lot of people were out as well but there were skirmishs. far right protest duking it out and abuse being hurled at jewish residents london requiring polices courts. the biggest fallout was an interior minister getting the boot by the british prime minister today. other reasons. this was part of a cabinet reorganization. she got heat for branding the

pro-palestinian rally a hate march. i can tell you firsthand being out on the streets of london this weekend, there was a lot of hate. a lot of anger on both sides of this issue a long way away from the mideast fighting. back to you. >> mike: greg, thanks very much. dana. >> dana: meanwhile colleges across the country are under pressure to condemn anti-semitism. many universities are saying -- many are saying universities are not doing enough to protect jewish students. i want to add christine rosen to the conversation, a senior fellow at american enterprise institute. we never thought at harvard college we would have to argue the point that terrorism against civilians demands condemnation. we never thought we would have to argue for recognition of our own humanity. are letters like this packing a punch? >> they are.

thank goodness. it has been five weeks since the attack on october 7th. what a lot of alumni of these colleges and former staff and faculty and parents are realizing is the double standard in terms of the colleges protecting their students is so blatant and obvious. so egregious. something has broken and people are fighting back. it is good that donors and alumni are jewish students this. it it is across the board. >> dana: when big ackman says something they pay attention. >> yes. >> dana: are any of the universities changing? >> little hints of it. some is too little, too late. columbia university suspended palestinian student groups attacking jewish students. we see on campus one side of

this debate is masking its faces and committing hate speech and the other side is holding vigils for hostages. the contrast is clear. what i would encourage a lot of these universities to do is start thinking long term. how will you solve this problem, systemic problem for a lot of these places. columbia suspends two student groups assaulting students and saying terrible things for a month. they instantly go on social media and say well, watch our actions. they will follow our words and watch columbia. thinly failed threat. they aren't -- the student groups aren't taking it as punishment. fine for now but stopgap measures. these universities need long term plans to solve the problem of anti-semitism. >> dana: it might not help with president obama with remarks like this. >> take in the whole truth and you then have to admit nobody's hands are clean, that all of us

are complicit to some degree. >> dana: bill maher had enough of that conversation and what he said this weekend. >> i am struggling with people's moral equivalence see still. barack obama, who has rarely disappointed me, did so this week. the attack was only a month ago. more savage attack than we've ever seen in reverse. coll rat rail damage and what hamas did. when israel fires back it's a war crime. a little crazy. >> dana: will this filter down? >> to be lectured on complicity it's a little rich. good for bill maher for saying that. another part of the conversation. iran is backing hamas, hezbollah, the terrorist groups and so the moral equivalencey point is important. we need to say as americans, as educators and college presidents

it is not the same thing for terrorists to attack innocent civilians as hamas did to israelis and then act as if any reaction on the part of israel to defend itself is genocide or war crime. these things aren't true. >> dana: you are a mom. you have teen children and there are moms out there moms and dads saying what can i tell my children? where can i point them and what can i give to them to give them more of an understanding of what is happening rather than them getting peer pressured into going to one of those pro-palestinian rallies. >> the first thing i would say is get off tiktok. there is a lot of very pro-palestinian, pro-hamas propaganda on that social media site. get off social media. start reading more broadly. there are smaller journals and a lot of places students can go to educate themselves more broadly. wonderful history books. many great books about israel. they need to broaden their

sum it up for me. what's going on. is sign stealing not allowed? >> yeah. this is going to be an all-time sports segment. this is complicated especially if people haven't paid attention. what happened is michigan is accused of stealing signs not during a game, which is actually somewhat common place, that is while you are playing your sideline might watch the other sideline and try to figure out what play calls they are signaling in. they are accused of sending people to games featuring future opponents so they could tape with phones, they could tape the sidelines and then deduce what the signals were to be able to predict plays when michigan later played that team. now, there is even according to the big ten findings, no certainty that jim harbaugh was directly involved but the big

ten on friday, you will love this, dana. while jim harbaugh was in the air flying to penn state to play in this game that was taking place in pennsylvania on saturday, they suspended him while he was in the air for the final three games of the season. he would not be allowed under this suspension to appear in the stadium but he can work all week long with the team to prepare them for their game. so he has filed a -- michigan has in conjunction with jim harbaugh, they have filed a request for an injunction, a temporary restraining order that would keep this penalty, suspension, from being enforced. that hearing is going to take place on friday in the county where the university of michigan is based. and the judge there will then decide whether to issue an

injunction to allow jim harbaugh to coach on saturday against maryland and then potentially in the final game of the season in what will probably be the most watched game of the college football season when ohio state comes to michigan. the drama even for people who aren't that much involved in sports, is off the charts. when you are rushing to courtrooms for injunctions it sounds like bush versus gore 2000 as opposed to a typical college football season. >> dana: the michigan director -- within is ncaa. jim harbaugh got a lot of applause at a michigan hockey game. do you think what happened was fair or do you think that the injunction should be granted and let him play out the season? >> so yeah, if i were the judge,

dana, i would have granted this injunction because you can't unring the bell of a suspension once jim harbaugh is not on the sidelines and later found not to be responsible for this. not like you can go back and allow him on the sideline. but the fact the judge didn't grant the injunction before the game against penn state and isn't even going to have a hearing until friday, which is on the eve of michigan's game against maryland, makes me think she is not going to grant the injunction. if there is harm, how did you find it before the penn state game? and the other real wild card here, dana, is arguably michigan is so rejuvenated and revitalized by jim harbaugh not being on the sideline it is almost like from a performance perspective they may be better off. they adopted the us against the world mantra and played a great
