tv   The Ingraham Angle  FOX News  March 24, 2023 12:00am-1:00am PDT

12:00 am
streaming now on fox nation. all right. programing note before you go . don't forget tune in monday night. j donald j. trump for the entire houumr on camera right here on hand and join us .nnity. please set your dvr.s al unfortunately, that's all the time we have left this evening. but in the meantime, let not your heart be troubled. let's give a warm welcome to the great laura ingraham. >> say hi, laura . hi, everybody. hey, sean. how may i make an announcement to the audience? okay, hang on . laura wants to make an announcement to the audience. i would make everybody in the audience tonight gets a free football and a free beer. >> let's get a free beer, okay? oh yeah. so, yeah, i have a good one . everybody that got a football. hold up your football. yeah. it's almost game. and you going to give them beer. actually sean has a keg.
12:01 am
sean has a keg. but don't worry, it's light beer so y'all will be fine. all right. great to see everybody, sean. great. love you too. anyway, have a great weekend. all right. i'm laura ingraham. and this is the ingraham angle from washington tonight. thanks for being with us. the tock party, that's the focus of tonight's angle. well, mr. china came to washington today and it was quite a spectacle. we have heard important concerns about the potential for unwanted foreign excess to u.s. data and potential manipulation of the tick tock u.s. ecosystem. our approach has never been to dismiss or trivialize any of these concerns. we will firewall, protect us data from unwanted foreign access. >> can you do surveillance of other americans ? we will protect the u.s. user data and file it all from all our foreign access is a commitment that we've given to the committee. >> i want to hear you say with 100 percent certainty that neither vytenis nor tiktok employees can target other
12:02 am
americans with similar surveillance techniques, as you did with the journalist. again, i don't disagree with the characterization, characterization. i think it's our commitment that we will not be influenced by any government on these issues. doj is investigating this this surveillance right now. >> a ban is only a short term way to address tiktok. >> and a data privacy bill is the only way to stop. tiktok from ever happening again in the united states that your part company by dance currently can access user data . >> yes, that's a we have to be more specific. yes. off the project. texas. no, i'm not asking after project texas. i'm asking now. >> yes, some user data is public data, congresswoman, which means everybody that can be interesting to me is that you have used the word transpac c over a half a dozen times in your opening testimony. and subsequently, again, in your answers to my colleagues. yet the interesting thing to me is that byte dance, your parent company has gone out of their way to hide and airbrush
12:03 am
corporate structure ties to the ccp. that was while now it was back in july of 2020. i don't know if you remember this, but i pressed the former cia director and then trump secretary of state mike pompeo on the threat posed by tiktok. shouldn't we be considering right now, tonight a ban on chinese social media apps, especially tiktok? i don't want to get in front of the president, but it's something we're looking. would you recommend that people download that up on their phones tonight? tomorrow, any time? currently, only if you want your private information in the hands of the chinese communist party. >> now, exactly one month after that interview aired, then president trump signed an executive order that would have essentially banned tiktok in the united states . but in june of 2020 one , biden fully reversed the ban. now, since then, the intel assessments about tock have only gotten worse. >> one sixth of american youth
12:04 am
say they're constantly on tick tock. that's a it's a loaded gun. >> so why hasn't biden reversed course first? because china owns biden. now we know from biden, bankrate girds that his family has made big money there. and biden's team is doing everything in its power to up to china daily. at this point, there's literally nothing that the ccp can do that's going to push biden off his super engagement mission. so why would biden risk offending his benefactor over some stupid app? and the second reason, the tic tac app is still in the apple store is china's army of high paid lobbyists, consultants, law firms and even former congressmen. >> they're crawling all over capitol hill, flexing their muscle and they're making their case. now, these people are what trump was referring to when he said drain the swamp. >> they're fine with selling out their own country as long as that monthly retainer check doesn't bounce. and then there's the senior
12:05 am
staff at tiktok itself. now they're even worse, refusing to answer simple questions about the persecution of religious minorities in china. >> do you agree that the chinese government has persecuted the weaker population? >> if you use up and you open it, you will find our users who get all sorts. >> not my question. well, is deeply concerning to hear about all accounts of human rights abuse from the u.s.. so, yes, it's a pretty easy question. >> congressman, i'm here to discuss it, but to talk what we do as a platform, well, indifferent, shared by folks like michael beckerman, tic tacs, head of public policy. now, you saw him sitting behind mr. chu today at the hearing with a very smug, self-satisfied look on his face. well, here he was three months ago on cnn. >> do you acknowledge the chinese government has these figures and others in concentrated concentration? >> look, i saw something that i that i focus on . we work for a chinese
12:06 am
government company and the chinese are accused of concentration camps and ethnic. you can you can look you can find all of this content on tick tock. >> why won't you why won't you acknowledge that? i mean, i'm just not i'm just not an expert on what's happening in china. pond scum. how is bekerman different from any senior member of the communist party at this point on this issue? well, he does their propagandizing for them. as long as white dance owns tiktok, the ccp has the ability to vacuum up as much information on users tiktok as they want. contrary to what mr. chu is trying to argue today, you any amount of dancing employees in china, including engineers, currently have access to us there. this is complex a topic today. all data is vital. that complex, yes or no. do they have access to user data? we have after project texas is done, the answer is no. >> today there there's still some areas that we need. yes, we've ranking member here.
12:07 am
he hasn't. and that he doesn't really see that project . >> texas is going to be useful. now, this is ludicrous. at any time of day or night now. and a year from now, president or any ccp official can demand user data and he'll be given user data. in fact, even chu couldn't deny that top staff by dance are, in fact members of the communist party. >> logic would tell us that there are a fair number of your employees are members of the chinese communist party. >> at least a dozen or so who have access to this data? >> isn't that so? again, like i said, i can ask one or two people we don't have a policy, does it? >> because it's so easy now, even though we knew that china was stealing user data, we've allowed tic tacs reach to metastasize. now there are a staggering one hundred and fifty million tiktok users in the united states . mr. chu is bragging about that
12:08 am
today. so this begs the question, why do we even need a congressional hearing at this point, no matter what she says about corporate firewalls? and transparency, he ultimately answers to the ccp. he slips up and he knows that just like other ceos, he could be disappeared overnight. >> in principle, we want to provide a good experience for all users in general. we actually put in more restrictions to make sure our teenagers get a better experience. the majority of people who use our platform use it for positive experiences. >> there's so many people love the app. >> it's a great experience. the are having a real experience and when he didn't want to answer questions, he used a tried and true trick in response. >> would you commit to not selling your data? anyone? i can get back to you on the details. i can get back to you on the specifics. >> i'll look into the specifics. i don't have specifics. congressman, i need to check on these specifics. i need to look the specifics of
12:09 am
the report. congressman, i can get back to you on that. i want to be precise and i'll get back to you all day long. >> mr. chu labored to reassure the committee tiktok is working hard on their new corporate plan to cordon off the operation from prying eyes . >> we have designed project texas to protect us user interests and to move forward here in the u.s. again is the protection of storing american data on american soil by an american company looked after by american personnel now scrambling to stave off an all out ban. >> so tiktok proposed a one point five billion dollar corporate reorganization, kept referring to it called project texas. very clever, insisting that all data would be stored in the u.s.. and as he said , those servers would be run by americans at oracle. >> but just recently, after studying that very proposal, the committee on foreign investment said that that proposal failed to address the data vulnerability issue, only getting the company out of chinese hands would address
12:10 am
that problem. >> china's 2017 national intelligence law states very clearly that, quote, any organization or citizen shall support, assist and cooperate with state intelligence. in other words, byte dance and also your tick tock employees that live in china, they must cooperate with chinese intelligence whenever they are called upon. if the ccp tells bite dance to turn over all data that tiktok is collected inside the u.s.. >> congressman, first, i'm singaporean. that's fine, but there are employees of yours and by dance's in china, we understand his concern. >> we build something where we take that data and put it out of reach. >> even democrats didn't seem to be buying it today. that mr. chu is creepy, not credible. >> i still believe that the beijing communist government will still control and have the ability to influence what you do. >> you're trying to give the impression that you're a good actor, but the commitments that we would seek to achieve those goals are not being made well throughout the day. >> and was very long
12:11 am
and getting hammered by both parties, the london and harvard educated mr. chu kind of kept his cool. >> it was almost like he knew that in the end, biden would never sign a bill banning tiktok in the law. it was just a few weeks ago that the white house had come up with a middle ground suggesting that biden's sell tiktok. then that would mollify concerns of both parties and americans across the country. well, so much for compromising with the chinese today. just hours before that hill hearing, china gave the symbolic middle finger to biden, announcing that it was rejecting the idea of selling. >> tiktok. i wonder why now will the establishment ever learn that you cannot meet china halfway on any issue like this? their aim is simple. it's to conquer the united states in any way they ultimately can through influence, presence, what have you. and this would mean it would
12:12 am
be fine for many in the regime media, by the way, who seem to have already given up on america. check out how the new york times characterized the question facing washington about whether to ban tiktok this is today. some of the world's largest news organizations, including the new york times, now have tiktok accounts, meaning it shutting down the app could appear to be shutting down the spread effect based news to counter chinese disinfo. well, first, that the new york times will ever be a reliable counter to china is laughable. plus, remember all their efforts to counter so-called covid misinformation ? now, the only answer here is to force biden's hand . congress must immediately pass legislation to ban the tick tock app in the united states long since time then, biden can choose to protect the priorities of a ccp or to protect national security and privacy concerns of the american people. the choice is quite simple,
12:13 am
and that's the angle. joining me now is missouri senator josh hall. senator , thanks for being with us tonight. now, there are a few questions that i know you had after watching what happened today for the ceo that apparently weren't asked in this very long hearing today. >> give me one of them. >> well, one of them is how many communist chinese party members can access americans , user data. and we know the answer to that law because whistleblowers have come forward to my office and other offices and said the answer is virtually unlimited. numbers. we know it doesn't matter where you put the data, by the way, it matters who can access it. and we know that members of the communist chinese party can access americans data right now. this this app is a backdoor for beijing into our private lives, into our personal security. >> that's why we need to ban it. yeah, i think one congressman asked about members of the chinese communist party, but of course, they didn't get really much of an answer at
12:14 am
one point to try to convince congress that the ccp has just minimal access to these chinese companies. watch. this evidence is not owned or controlled by the chinese government, is a private company. >> 60% of the company is owned by global institutional investors. 20% is owned by the founder and 20% owned by employees around the world by dance's five board members. three of them are american senator . >> all of that or it doesn't matter who owns the company, it matters who controls it, who influences it matters that in china there are no real private companies every company is subject every corporation subject to china's so-called security law. which forces these companies to turn over any information the beijing government wants at the whim of the beijing government. that means american user data. that is why american journalists are being tracked by china. that is why, if you've got
12:15 am
tiktok on your phone, china can track your location, they can track your keystrokes, they can read your phone messages, your contact list, all of this stuff. it's because the ccp effectively controls all major corporations in china and that absolutely includes tiktok. >> well, what's interesting to me is that mr. chu referred to the fact very quickly in his opening statement that the afp does not exist within china. so the afp does not operate within china itself. i was surprised that more of that wasn't made at the hearing itself. senator hawley, why if it's such a great app, why don't the chinese people have access to it? yeah, exactly. and the reason is , lura, this app is basically digital finial. >> that's what it is . it is not designed to make our lives better. it is designed to disrupt. it is designed to get into our kid's head. you look at the amount of suicide promotional material for example, that tiktok, it's off the charts. some of that was brought up at
12:16 am
the hearing today. as a parent of three little kids, i don't want my kids on tick tock. i'm scared to death of what they will find there. and that app is by design to get into our kid's head, by kids heads, by design, to push this content to them. that's what they're doing here. that's why the chinese government won't allow it. but they , of course, want americans to use it because they want to disrupt society and they want a backdoor into everything that we're doing, everything that we're seeing, everywhere that we're going. >> that's what tiktok is . senator , there is a question raised about how the data in the messaging can be manipulated. >> watch. you. you disagree with fbi director rey and nsa director and sony when they said that the ccp could have the capability to manipulate data and send it to the united states. do you disagree? with their statement? >> the statement says, could so do you disagree with that? >> no, i don't disagree with that. what of that? that was a pretty good moment. big admission. >> a big admission.
12:17 am
that's the truth. is that the ccp has access right now to any data they want that belongs to us. and that's why i say, again, this is a backdoor for the beijing government into our private lives. into our personal security, into the heads of our children. and we've got to close that door. the only thing to do, laura , is to ban it. you mentioned the biden administration. tiktok. it's not stupid. they went out and hired a pr firm that was founded by biden administration people. they are trying to purchase the democrat party right now. why are all of these corporate media outlets now rehearsing tiktok the lines for them? it's because tiktok is out there pushing this. they're out there buying influence of the democrat party. let's put it to vote. >> let's just see what the tally is . let's see who's willing to ban this thing. senator , thank you so much. now, separate from the national security and data collection concerns is what tiktok is doing to our kids. >> last year, federal judge in pennsylvania found that section 230 protected tiktok from being
12:18 am
held responsible for the death of a 10 year old girl who participated in a blackout challenge. also known as the choking challenge. tiktok actively pushes on her feet. section 230 was never intended to shield companies like yours from amplifying dangerous and life-threatening content to children. do you consider this to be a good faith? >> moderation section 2:30 is a very complex, you know, yes or no. >> we are very focused on safety. >> joining me now, emma lemcke, founder of a log off movement. last month, she testified in front of the senate judiciary committee about the harms of social media and thanks for being with us tonight. do you believe the ceo when he says that tiktok is very focused and takes very seriously safety? >> you know, allure first, thank you for having me. i think that tiktok begins to take it seriously when
12:19 am
they begin to fall into the national landscape. of discourse. i think that a lot of these harms have been experienced for years across the platform. they can be seen in the case of the ten year old girl who sadly passed away from these deadly tiktok challenges. so i think that a lot of these actions are too little, too late. >> well, tiktok ceo emma also touted some of the apps protective measures that they claim we're going to keep teens out of trouble. >> watch this. we spent a lot of time adopting measures to protect teenagers. many of those measures are firsts for the social media industry. we we forbid direct messaging for people under 16 and we have a 60 minute wash time by default for those under 18 , we have a suite of family planning tools so that parents can participate in their teens experience and make the choices they are right for their family . >> emma, 60 minute role. how many how many kids are abiding by the 60 minute rule? it's a does that work?
12:20 am
>> i'm just laughing because i know it doesn't work. not many. laura . it's like when apple put on the screen timer, you can easily, easily navigate around it. and i think that while any change to help protect children is necessary, and welcomed, it's like putting a bandaid over a much larger issue. here we are facing an issue where online spaces are not safe for young people to inhabit. therefore, we need to take regulatory action to make those spaces safer because these companies cannot self lead. as we've seen. emma, how addicting. tiktok. i mean, you're of the generation that i just seen kids scrolling at the coffee shop. they scroll, scroll, scroll made. >> it seems like four hours. you know, laura , i can only speak to my personal experience and what i see around me. but what i can say is that it is by far one of the most addicting and scrolled algorithms that i've seen in my friend group.
12:21 am
and that's the reason why i personally am not on tech talk. it's one of the few platforms that i refuse to go on knowing that i will scroll endlessly and not be able to get myself out of those loops. >> even as a digital advocate. am, thank you so much for what you're doing out there and keep it up. all right. why hasn't joe biden announced his 2020 four run yet? newt gingrich has a theory next . fox news media is proud to bring you this. >> she's a hero moment. >> new york city. you have to have the skill into and the drive to make it here. not all chefs are men .no one she's a girl. women bring creativity, talents into a kitchen. >> no one should go hungry. human right to know whereu can your next meal is coming from. >>be we're changing our communiy one night at a time. one night at a time. and we're not done yet. if you canyo see her, you can be her part-time job full time.t >> o all time hero to all of ush

to the plan is for him to announce sometime after the state of the union address. tara reporting also that the president has already delayed the campaign announcement till after the state of the union. this decision won't come or won't be announced until after the state of the union, which is scheduled for february seven . so a couple of weeks from now, still. >> but what happened? >> i remember that we've been bombarded with recent articles musing about whether biden's reelection headquarters is up and running, who's running it, but we still have no definitive answer from biden himself. well, now, several prominent progressive dems are arguing that biden should not run, citing his age. can you imagine that in commitment to the status quo? now, this comes as biden's
12:27 am
approval rating currently sits at just 38% in the latest ap poll, that's a big drop from his 45% back in february. joining us now to handicap all of this is newt gingrich, fox news contributor, former speaker of the house. newt, what the heck's going on here? i mean, the state of the union was quite a while ago, wasn't it? >> well, look, i think the gap between biden's fantasy world and the real world is getting wider. the fact is , there are a lot of democrats who like to run. none of them are particularly scared of biden. none of them are going to take him on until something happens because he is the president . he's spending trillions of dollars. he has the intermeshed of the federal government. so he's formidable. on the other hand , i suspect more and more democrats are beginning to realize that he probably can't win the next election.
12:28 am
you know, he's not going to be able to hide in the basement. he's not going to be able to hide in the rose garden. and we're going to see more things like the recent bank failures. we're going to see more problems. we're going to see more compounding effects of millions of illegal immigrants. and all of this, i think, is going to pose a huge challenge in 1960 for lyndon baines johnson. on an enormous reelection, riding off of the tragedy of john f. kennedy having been assassinated four years later, the opposition to johnson was enough that he announced he wouldn't even run for reelection. so i think he had the very similar thing. nobody's asked themselves if you get in the first one or two primaries and anybody runs against biden, and he's a 38 percent approval, what's going to happen in that primary? and the odds are very high that biden is going to start losing. so i plus, remember, every
12:29 am
month that goes by , his cognitive problems get bigger. every month that goes by , it's more embarrassing. i mean, the only thing that makes biden currently survivable is that kamala harris is so much worse. >> speaking of new situations, yeah, let me just get into what reuters is reporting tonight. >> speaking of what you just said , they're saying that kamala and biden have a very complicated chemistry, saying biden is convinced that neither harris or any other democratic hopefuls would be able to beat trump. a point of tension. the relationship is that i don't think that the president sees her as somebody who takes anything off of his plate, adding a fear of messing up. had letairis to be late to the game on important issues. newt, they seem like they they're looking for a way out of the kamala trap. >> no more . you can't set these things up like this. you mean you know, the kamala harris is a joke every time you
12:30 am
watch her, she's laughing. every time she does an interview, it's clear she has no idea what she's talking about. despite every effort to train and there have been a lot of efforts to train her, she's not trainable. this is a person who has zero capacity for learning. >> she's the best insurance policy that joe biden could ever have because nobody is going to want to implement the twenty fifth amendment, no matter how bad biden gets, there will always be this thought that without him, we get kamala harris and that ain't going to happen. so if you're gretchen, there's going to be on the one hand , he can't. >> he can't he can't dump. she's an african-american woman, acceptable by the left. on the other hand , he can't keep her. and that's one of the dilemmas of this potential campaign. >> so if you're someone like a gretchen admirer or i guess newsom in california, people are thrown. j.b. pritzker got help us into the mix. why wouldn't you go for it at this point?
12:31 am
i mean, why wouldn't you throw your book hat in? i think the most likely democratic nominee is as governor wittmer of michigan. she's a woman. she's very light on the wall. on the left, she has done everything she could for big labor. she represents a key swing state. i think she's very formidable as a potential democratic nominee. i think pritzker, on the other hand , you know, there's a huge difference between being a governor and being a presidential candidate. pritzker on a national stage will be a buffoon. it'll be an absurdity. you look at the things they've done recently in illinois. every single one of them is opposed by 70 or 80 or 90% of the american people. he's the most pro criminal state in the country. and then, of course, you go to california. but let's get serious. newsom can't survive east of the california border because the truth is , is a goofball
12:32 am
who runs a state that isn't working. meanwhile, and we don't know who is really running the country right now. newt, thank so much. now, alvin bragg and his media flunkies are taking direct aim at congressman jim jordan. so congressman jordan is here to respond next. plus, if you thought the government's prosecution of the jan six defendants was sick and corrupt before. wait until you hear this next story. >> so stay with us. there's a book that's endured. generations been shared around the world and it's still the best selling book of all time. there's more to the story. explore the book you thought you knew at museum of the bible. we love being outside, but the sun makes our deck and patio too hot . to enjoy. now, thanks to our new sunset, a retractable awning, we can select full sun or instant shade in just 60 seconds. it's 20 degrees cooler under the sun center and we
