they are major human rights violators. on the show tonight, top georgia official bob barr, butch miller. ford o'connell with us too. along with douglas holtz-eakin, fred fleitz, chris bedford and congressman bride an babin from texas. we have more on the fight over baseball's boycott and dozens of companies who opposed georgia's voting law when they require i.d. from workers and customers. more from the white house and media, including cnn's don lemon, they are misleading, quote, gaslighting the public over georgia's new voting law. "60 minutes" now trying to claim a cut for quote clarity. governor ron desantis florida explanation, critics say "60 minutes" deceptively he had at this timed their report that governor desantis favored publix supermarkets, when 90% of the highest risk group lives near a publix in florida.

"the evening edit" starts right now. ♪. elizabeth: welcome to the show. thanks for watching. we begin with an embarassment from major league baseball, a big swing and a miss. joining me now attorney, former georgia congressman bob barr. okay, so, good to see you, sir. thanks for joining us. the mlb yanks its all-star game, they pull the all-star game out of georgia and put it in denver, colorado. colorado has tougher voting laws than georgia. less early voting days. the same voter i.d. law as georgia. what is going on here what do you think. >> what is going on here is politics, politics, politics. the one thing you can almost

liz, count on for the left to do, sooner or later they overplay their hand. that i think is what's happened here because what they're doing is so difficult for them to explain, it is so wrong, it is so ludicrous, it is so absurd i think even moderate democrats see through this and will be opposed to it. so once again, they have overplayed their hand and i think it is going to rebound against them. elizabeth: yeah. we've got more than 21,000 ballots were disqualified in colorado in the 2016 election because of problems with voter i.d. the other thing too, sir, the u.s. census data shows atlanta is 51% black. denver is 9% black. why is president biden and former president barack obama applauding baseball's boycott of atlanta when it slams millions of black families and workers? they could lose 190 million bucks in revenue in atlanta, what do you think? >> they're applauding this move

because they don't care about what happens own the ground. they don't care about the small businesses here in my home county of cobb which would have hosted all-star game. they don't care about that. they don't care about the companies here. they don't care about the families that relied on this. they don't care about the fans and whether or not they have done their homework, whether they even know that colorado's laws in many respects are either the same as or less liberal than georgia's, they just don't care and that's why it is so transparent to what they're doing here has nothing to do with anything other than partisan politics. elizabeth: the other thing too is, gop senator marco rubio sent a letter to the major league baseball commissioner rob manfred, will you job your membership at exclusive members only augusta national golf club in georgia? will you stop baseball growing in china and cuba making money?

they're major human rights violators. senator rubio blasting the mlb over this. what do you think? >> i think neither the mlb commissioner will back away. those memberships in the augusta club are worth their weight in platinum, diamonds and gold all together, he is not giving that up. with regard to china, this is a serious issue. major league sports are so deep into the communist chinese pocketbook, no way they will back down. the only way we here in america can have an impact on this is through the laws, perhaps make the laws in this country less amenable to all of these perks that major league sports get. and for americans to vote with their wallets because that is exactly what the chinese are doing. elizabeth: okay. bob barr, thanks for joining us on the show. it is great to see you. come back soon. >> of course. elizabeth: let's bring in georgia state senator butch miller. all right, so we've got

companies saying you know, we don't like the georgia voting law. good to see you, sir. but those companies like united, delta, uber, require photo, you know, i.d. for customers and workers. >> certainly. elizabeth: so you know there is a real hip hypocrisy happening here. what do you think? >> look at georgia, colorado, compare the two. georgia has voter i.d. colorado has voter i.d. georgia's is free. colorado charges 12.$67 for their i.d. colorado has 15 days of early voting in person. georgia has 17 days of early voting in person. georgia has 29 days of mail-in ballots. colorado has 25 days of mail-in ballots. we permit sunday voting. colorado prohibits sunday voting this is all about politics and nothing about voter access. if you were talking about politics, politics, politics, has no business in baseball. it has no business in business. business should provide goods

and services for their customers. elizabeth: one critic said, maybe the sports like mlb and the nba should register as lobbyists. the nfl should register as lobbyists if they get into politics that might be a push too far. what did you think, senator lindsey graham slammed president biden's misleading attack on the voting law. senator graham said it is sick. the white house press secretary says the president has no regrets supporting baseball's boycott of georgia. that will hurt a lot of black families and workers in georgia. what do you think? >> it will hurt a lot of families in georgia, a lot of hard-working georgians. this comment about jim crow on steroids, there is no place for politics and name calling in baseball or in business. i don't think it is appropriate, the president misspoke at the very least, and he should apologize, frankly. it was unfair, ridiculous that

he made the statements that he made. i think he was really ill-informed. i hate to say that about the president of the united states but someone around him should have been helping him. elizabeth: you know, 35 states and dozens of countries have voter i.d. including mexico, canada and france but there is a lot of misleading coverage of this. let's listen to former new jersey governor chris christie go after democrat stacey abrams for hypocrisy on this. watch this. >> stacey abrams, by the way, stacey abrams was in new jersey, my state, praising phil murphy this week for voting law where new jersey early voting is nine days half of what georgia is. she is on tv in new jersey. i saw it myself saying this is one of the greatest voting expansion bills we've ever seen but this is jim crow? i'm sorry, george, doesn't make any sense. elizabeth: yeah. what did you think of that? >> christie's statements were

right on, hit nail on the head. patently unfair the way they're painting georgia's voting law. we're improving access, not only the days of voting, the methods of voting, talking about voter suppression. this is not voter suppression. nothing remotely similar to voter suppression. we have dropboxes. we have absentee ballots. we have early voting. we still have mail-in ballots. all those things. voter i.d. is free and we're still voting on sundays. all those things are maintained in this bill. elizabeth: that is interesting what you're saying but we still have, the media and the democrats really trying to paint this as quote, racist. you know, but when we look at the details of the law, it is like, people in the media and democrats purposely not reading georgia's new law in order to throw brickbats. reporter phil wegmann from real clear news asked the white house press secretary if you're so adamant about major league

baseball boycotting georgia, why are you not calling for a boycott of winter olympics in china? psaki did not like the question. >> great point. she did not like the question at all. businesses doing business in georgia and the united states, condemning this law, making money, doing business in china where they have no voting at all. where is the fairness? where is the equity in that? there is none. elizabeth: how is the law not racist? >> well, first of all, it is not racist because we provide dropbox. we provide access. we provide expanded hours. we provide voter i.d. for free. how can any of those things be painted as racist? it is not racist in the least, not the very least. in fact we've had record turnouts in minority voters in all categories. so how can we be suppressing votes? it is simply not true.

governor desantis' explanations for quote clarity. this is story about, that tried to claim governor desantis favored publix supermarkets to do vaccinations after political donations. 90%, the explanations were this, 90% of the highest risk group lives near publix in florida, senior citizens. governor desantis was saying hey, publix was ready to go first distributing vaccines into the larger community over the pharmacies. pharmacies weren't ready to do that. why cut that explanation? why cut that context? >> well that's the whole question here, emac. rarely have i seen a more obvious political hit job than what "60 minutes" tried to go to florida governor desantis, when it comes to vaccine distribution. and publix had to play. publix is a florida institution. there are more than 800 publics in the state of florida. 65 in palm beach county. when the democrat mayor, dave

kerner, i agreed with governor desantis publix was the best to deliver the vaccine in palm beach county, i don't know where there is a story. elizabeth: the democrats are saying in florida they approached publix to do it, not the other way around. should cbs put out a correction on this story? the florida governor is saying they cut out everything from when i was saying that proved their narrative was quote horse manure. discredited itself. he said he will hold them accountable. i don't know how he will do that. should they correct their story? >> absolutely they should correct the story, they never proved, not only deceptively edited, and democrats backed desantis, they never proved the earnings narrative they were trying to sell, this was pay-for-play. cbs not going to correct it. here is the problem,cbs a once vaunted news magazine. it lost its journalistic integrity. it's a arm of democratic party. the word is out. desantis is a rising star and

could be republican nominee and take down biden and harris in 2024. the word is out smear desantis as often as possible because he can't become the republican nominee if trump doesn't run because he may be the next president of the united states. elizabeth: cbs is avoiding covering its own "60 minutes." cbs this morning, "cbs evening news." never covered it. cbs never offered any evidence to support the serious charge beyond spotlighting publix 100,000-dollar donation to key sanities this is false connect the dots journalism. it doesn't hold up. let's watch governor desantis with tucker carlson. he doesn't buckle to bullying, a former harvard graduate and navy veteran. watch governor desantis. >> lost in all of this, we vaccinated 3 1/2 million senior citizens. we were the first state to say that we would do senior first. they didn't want to discuss that.

they selectively edited the background. they tried to act like there was a conspiracy with publix. ignored the fact that i met with the county mayor, a democrat, who said what "60 minutes" has done is bunk. palm beach calculated that 90% of their seniors lived within a half a mill of publix. we were doing african-american church drives before publix gave a single shot. they didn't tell you that. that hospitals were doing shots starting in the third week of december because it didn't fit the narrative. they don't believe in facts. it was a political narrative. elizabeth: i mean, it sounds like a lot was left out of the story, ford. i mean there are 1700 pharmacies throughout florida doing vaccinations. sam's clubs, walmarts, walgreens, cvs, publix, a lot of context is left out of the story. >> there is nothing but context to the story. to governor desantis' point, publix is a florida institution.

it has the most pharmacies in the state. it is at every intersection and every corner. not only that, they were the not only ones to distribute the vaccine. walgreens and cvs. publix was brought into palm beach county in particular because publix had the most locations in palm beach county. it was senior friendly, 1 1/2 miles from it. the bottom line here is what a lot of americans will learn is what floridians already known, when it comes to the covid and taking care of seniors governor desantis did the best in the nation and did it without a mask mandate. if that story gets beyond florida, ron desantis will no longer be the florida governor, he will be america's governor. elizabeth: you know the other thing too, it really does feel like they had an axe to grind at "60 minutes" because not only did it cut out governor desantis' explanation for supposedly quote, clarity they muddyied it even more but

declined democrat dave kerner offer to explain. local officials including himself asked the governor to expand vaccinations at publix. publix was ready to go into the overall community before the pharmacies. that is why mayor kerner said the "60 minutes" story was intentionally false. they refused to talk to this guy. final word? >> that is the final point. when the democrats are defending governor desan desantis like tightly battle state like my home state of florida is big issue. how can you run a piece on desantis on "60 minutes," when you haven't run on cuomo with the nursing home scandal and nine accusers or newsom is about to be recalled. that tells me where they're going. they don't care about republicans and don't care about the facts. elizabeth: where is "60 minutes" covering the democrat governor of california giving a no bid vaccine contract to blue shield? they gave governor newsom a lot of money out there. we'll stay on the story with

training for workers, child care, housing renovation. it's a big spending bill. the second big truth it doesn't add up. they advertise 15 years of revenue, eight years of spending, putting on apples to apples basis it blows a hole in the budget. really important number three, it is not a jobs bill. if you raise that kind of taxes, really disciplined on spending core infrastructure and r&d you might break even. that is not what we have. this has a lot of social welfare spending. buried in the middle the big "pro act" that freezes the labor market. this will be a real headwind toe u.s. economic growth that is bad for workers. in those second circumstances ty won't get republicans support it. they need democrat votes. they put in once in a lifetime procedure to ram it through with one party. will that be bad for the midterms? we hope so. this is not how the budget

process was intended to be used. we'll see how it plays out. elizabeth: we hear what you are saying. joe manchin of the senate, seven democrat senators oppose raising the corporate tax to 28%. they lost in the midterms under clinton and obama. they have no room for losing votes. it is 50-50 in the senate. what is really strange here president biden is claiming companies don't move around to take advantage of lower tax rates in other countries. we have 380,000 jobs moved around last year. let's watch president biden on this. watch. >> are you worried that higher tax will drive corporations out of the country? >> not at all. not at all. >> why? >> because there is no evidence of that. the tax was 36%. it is now down to 21%. and the idea that that -- is bizarre. elizabeth: okay. government data shows 380,000

jobs were sent overseas, mostly to avoid higher taxes here. that was over the last dozen years. the other thing is, if biden says they don't move because of higher taxes, then why is the u.s. treasury secretary janet yellen trying to get a global minimum corporate tax rate to stop companies from moving around from taking advantage of lower tax rates? i don't get president biden here. what do you think? >> this is hard to support. look, roll the clock back to 2014-15-16, we have a non-stop perpetual problem firms leaving the united states. they goat labeled benedict arnold firms. there was a war in the congress and treasury regulations and it was non-stop political battle. it was a non-stop headache to the business community. they passed jobs act. cut the corporate rate 21%, got us back to the middle of pack.

republican congressman scott perry of pennsylvania, he is on house foreign affairs, talking to "the daily caller" news foundation about this. he is saying it is really concerning that dr. faucis niaid did not notify a federal reserve board about the money going out the door to the wuhan lab? should dr. fauci be called in to testify? democrats probably won't allow it but what is going on here? >> this is a problem at two levels. first of all a lot of heads should roll. how we ever give money to this laboratory for dangerous research. look at this from another level. biolab fours, i've been to one, at fort detrick the defense intelligence agency this is where the most dangerous biological research takes place. i don't know why china has one but they are so easily used to make biological weapons. the u.s. government should have nothing to do with them. no money should go to china. i could see funding research in

france, germany, the uk because we know they don't break international law. they will not violate the biological weapons treaty this is not true of china. we do not understand and appreciate the threat that china poses to our country. and i think that, basically we're down a slippery slope. once we cooperate with this lab, we cooperate with experiments to make coronaviruses more infectious. elizabeth: yeah. secretary of state, former secretary of state mike pompeo saying china discovered 2000 viruses over the last decade or so, not even that many were discovered in the last 200 years. i don't get it, why is it allowed for u.s. tax dollars to go over without dr. fauci saying anything about it to china, to the wuhan lab, accused of leaking that covid-19 virus, even the w.h.o. director general saying yeah, we got to look into that more? your final word? >> china is an adversary. not a competitor like joe biden

caucus cochair. the administration is racing to do damage control as biden's approval numbers plunge over his border crisis, that their messaging isn't working trying to claim it's not a border crisis, that they inherited it from trump. how about just fixing the policies? what's with the messaging? >> exactly. liz, great to be with you, as always. i think the plunging numbers for biden's approval spill directly from a lot of his actions, of course. but this border crisis, i think, has got a lot of people scared. they don't want to see literally hundreds of thousands of people come flowing across the border we've already got 16, 17, 18,000 unaccompanied minors that are in custody. i've been down there, i spent three days down there seeing some of these facilities that you should have had, you know, 200 folks in 'em, and they've

got 5700. it's just outrageous. and, quite frankly, i think when you start apprehending over 170,000 illegals coming across in one month, a 70% increase over last month, that's got to make americans very, very nervous. elizabeth: that's about equal to a fort lauderdale every month. you know, also this, the white house press secretary, jen psaki, today downplayed the seriousness of terrorists being caught at the border. two terrorists from yemen on the fbi watch list and no-fly list were caught. she's trying to claim this is up common. also homeland security deleted a press release about the yemeni terrorists. we've got border patrol stopping at least 19 suspected terrorists at the border since 9/11 including isis, hezbollah, the pakistani taliban. so, you know, people are saying, oh, they talk about this, this is hysteria with. no, dick cheney said just one

needs to get through to create a problem. so do you think it's overreacting to report about terrorists being caught at the border? and why did homeland security delete the press release? >> well, homeland security has done a lot of things, kind of gag orders unofficially, they didn't want us to take pictures in some of these facilities, they don't want to talk about people being ab rehended -- apprehended that are on the terrorist watch list on the no-fly list. they don't want folks to know about what's going on down there because they know it is the an absolute crisis, and it is stemmed directly from the policies that president biden reversed of president trump. and then when he handed off the border issue to kamala harris, who when asked if she was going to come down there, she simply just laughed. cackling kamala. we've got 17, 18,000 kids
