Maciej 'groobo' MaselewskiDiablo (PC) - Sorcerer 0:06:07 - Maciej Maselewski (2007)

verified.png

Speed run of Diablo as Sorcerer in 40 segments, completed on April 21 2007. Available in three versions: low/normal/high quality DivX.

Author's comments:
Thanks Radix, nate, mikwuyma and DJGrenola for obvious reasons. I would also like to thank flagitious for pointing some things that didn't come to my mind or I just didn't know about them at all.

Every time I improve the run the comments get shorter and shorter, so let's stick to that. Minor things worth mentioning:

* Item duplication glitch:

A very usefull glitch for a speedrun (and on b.net too ;)). You just drop an item you want to duplicate, move away from it, click on it and when you're about to pick it up, click on any item that's on your belt. The item that you've picked up is in your inventory and you're holding a clone of it instead of the item you clicked on your belt.

* Lazarus's cutscene/speech skip:

Flagitious gets the credit for skipping the cutscene. Alt-tabbing back to windows skips the entire cutscene, simple as that. Also saving and loading the game skips Lazarus's speech (he's invulnerable until he's done speaking).

* Drawing Diablo out with a lightning based attack:

Flagitious gets credit for this one too. It turns out that from the shit load of monsters in Diablo's chamber, only the big guy can be damaged by lightning (and there's also a black knight there but thanks to the monster behaviour RNG, it dosen't matter).

* Monster behaviour RNG:

Check wikipedia if you don't know what Random Number Generation is. Luckily in Diablo, you can manipulate things like monster movements, attacks, and even the damage they deal AND receive (you can't manipulate drops though, because they're generated upon character creation). Things like moving in a particular direction, attacking, or opening/closing the inventory, change the RNG. So basically "mistakes" like casting one fireball too much are done on purpose.

As for dungeons...

extreme luck manipulation anyone?

Subject: You're both mistaken I believe
mr_loophead, the run was made in 40 segments meaning the runner saved and then reloaded until he got the stairs in the optimum location that's why the stairs are always right next to each other.

cpbong, the "level" in the top left corner is the floor of the dungeon he is on not the character's level (I believe that's your mistake).

On floor 11 he kills 2 Death Wing's and goes up to a character level of 5 and gets the 20 points to distribute which he uses all at once.

The next fight is in Archbishop Lazarus' Lair he kills a Hell Wing and levels up to character level 7 and gets the 10 points to distribute that he should of which he uses 5 before getting into the next fight, then a few seconds later he kills 3 more Hell Wing's and hits level 10 and gets 15 more points on top of the five he didn't spend from the Hell Wing just before them and he quickly proceeds to use all of the 20 points.

The next fight he gets into is against Arch-Bishop Lazarus and he doesn't level from that fight, after that the only fight left is against Diablo and he levels to 13 after killing him and gets the proper 15 points, which he uses.

All the points in the run are put on magic and magic goes from the 35 base to 95 which is right for the 60 points he would get to distribute in the stats.

Unless I'm missing something it is a completely consistent run, it's quite an enjoyable run to watch the first couple times.

Subject: Big mistake
Well, it looks nice, but there is a huge continuity hole that you missed. The first time you kill some monsters int he lava caves, you level up to 11, however later in the video you level up again from killing a few mobs but you are only level 7. Great work killing diablo at whatever level you are at in the end with no gear, but it's definitely not a full run in 6 minutes.

Subject: i don't think so
every time you enter a level, the entrance for the next level is a bit too conveniently placed.

ie. fake.

nice try, though.

Subject: So impressive, almost not entertaining.
I remember when seeing the hour long speedrun of Diablo 1 blew my mind, but 6 minutes?! I've been downloading all of the diablo videos as they come out, and this one was so short that I didn't even have time to look away. Great job with the bare minimum thing going on, especially with the mana potions.
