a crowd that i don't. know but of course the people here are confirming that. we have you on the response to the program. now let us be able to read. a book on what indeed so in the south we're going to found nothing about our program for 18 years the other believed to be involved. in a critical. book that i somehow bill the cover weeks now i thought the rhythms of the prize but come to that author all we have seen live rounds being fired although one example of fired up in the air. when i was in. today's protests were banned by police why are people so determined to take to the streets on china's national day. now there are more well there are those. are the people. i don't

love them are people on the street close to the phone compel them to the. long haul the one who wants a month while hunting the house on ha ha ha. ha ha 371 of those who are fond of the time of people who want to care for the mother tongue to some other who are. to serve the wad of all the money not want to. stay with a shell that will hear from some of the protestors and come back to you. so one thing i got it i think the one called people got to be only about if you don't go out today probably even to the ferry last chance say you could go out after after so. let's not fight what happened in the last 100 days or so we are seeing that $1.03 to me getting a lot less than that old so i feel like today when there was a national day or anything we have to come out we. we don't want to be an out then

china city because the government and the hong kong police they don't wan the hong kong people to go out today yeah but i think the basic law protect it is our right so we want to fight for our own right and freedom and we don't want to do is this today we come to say the wise i would ask have. no. criminal just citizens in your home you just playful freedom stanford hong kong. asked to show it in hong kong i shall get your sense of some video footage showing a protest by a load woman talk us through it as we watch. you know not that long ago we were in a soaping district packed with. one woman as we were proceeding clearing her. but a lot to talk about with more thought she had. her off mumbled pride wrapped around

was founded after a bitter war with nationalists today presentation paying told gathered crowds that china's development would be peaceful but its military would safeguard its sovereignty and security. strength discipline and vision this was the message from a state that has defied the odds for 70 years on tuesday the world's longest surviving communist nation celebrated its achievements on a grand scale standing where chairman mao proclaimed the people's republic in 1949 presidents using ping struck a combative note. today a socialist china standing proudly in the world's east. and no force can change the position of our great motherland and no force can stop the chinese people and the chinese nation from stepping forward. the spectacle that followed was

designed to highlight china's rise from a nation in despair to a global superpower. at the forefront of that newfound confidence a display of military might on a massive scale advanced weaponry including nuclear capable mistrials rumbling through beijing. the event comes at a crucial time growth is slowing as the trade war with the u.s. takes its toll on the economy and calls for more democracy grow louder both in hong kong and among the middle classes in mainland china. so the leadership china has taken to social media to fight back against dissent in hong kong and according to a new report beijing's dramatically expanded its awesome marsh warehouses to welcome what more can you tell us also what we've seen building over the past several months is this really unprecedented counter offensive that the chinese government
5:09 pm
has been running there's this new report by the oxford internet institute which found that beijing has enlisted some 2000000 people to act on their behalf online on social media to attack the credibility of the hong kong protesters 2000000 that's more than half the population of berlin so their tactics the thing is has changed before they were mostly focusing on their internal social media channels things like we chat which are in mainland china but now they've taken it global to so to speak they're on facebook they're on twitter they're even on tick talk which is the new app that a lot of teenagers like to use the whole goal here is to weaken the global support for. hong kong protesters and paint them as these radical violent activists and decrease their their popular appeal ok so this is this is china using social media rather than attacking social social media platforms as we see them do who we have seen them censor social media we've seen them attack social media platforms for instance or to talk this this video that's popular that is actually owned by
5:10 pm
a company that's based in beijing and there are higher ups instructed their moderators to censor any content that was critical of china so not just the hong kong protesters but anything to do with tenements square and $989.00 for example anything to do with the controversy around the weekers who are being disappeared in the west of the country so now in addition there are facebook and twitter accounts that originated in china that appear to have acted in a cornet of fashion of some sort to amplify the messages and images that hong kong protesters are extreme and they're violent so they're not only attacking and censoring things like facebook and twitter but they're also using these platforms now to conduct attacks of their own they're creating these fake accounts they're using state media this is a multi pronged effort and the worry now is that this chinese censorship is viewable to people in the west particularly young people who use social media mostly to get their news and this is the message they're seeing coming out of china
5:11 pm
or the social platforms know that they're being targeted by the chinese state are they doing anything about it to the short answer is no long answer is not enough so facebook has said it's eliminated some pages some groups that were linked to chinese state media twitter said it did delete around 900 accounts and it released a press statement saying that it would ban any state backed media from promoting tweets after state backed media placed ads saying that these protesters were sponsored by western interests and that they were becoming violent however we have to remember facebook and twitter are blocked in mainland china so all of these messages that we're seeing coming out. out of china on these platforms are purely for international consumption not at all for people in mainland china and it suggests that beijing is really not shy about using these platforms to spread their messaging even as they restrict their own citizens access schrader thank you for that well take

suspect. that democrats in the u.s. house of representatives are stepping up the pressure on president trump as they move closer to launching in pietschmann proceedings they have not issued subpoenas against his personal lawyer ruby judy giuliani but the president is alleged to have abused his office by urging ukraine's president to investigate democratic presidential candidate joe biden and now there is evidence that mr trump pressured australia's prime minister for political gain. the story starts to seem all too familiar democrats say that new allegations point to yet another cover up by the trumpet ministration according to the u.s. justice department in may this year trump asked australian prime minister scott morrison to help discredit former special counsel robert miller's russia investigation miller let the probe into trump's alleged ties to russian interference into 2016 u.s.

hughes in his office using high level diplomacy talks to advance his personal political interests with regards to the impeachment inquiry i would say that to the democrats. prefer to focus on ukraine and the phone call president trump had with the ukrainian president because they wanted to stay on message they want a clear result for the american public and they want to be finished by thanksgiving so this is the 2nd instance in which democrats say president trump tried to pressure for a leader into doing him political favors there must now be words that there are others. well there certainly are because they believe that there is a certain pattern of behavior in presidents trump's dealings with foreign leaders but we also have to keep in mind that after back to back leaks of controversial remarks president had made in the his phone calls with international leaders at the
5:16 pm
beginning of his presidency the white house has decided to restrict access to those phone calls and to reduce the number of aides there were allowed to be present so it is difficult it will be difficult to find more evidence there therefore i believe that the democrats now are pushing forward with their inquiry with by requesting more information from president trump's close aides and cabinet members to have subpoena the secretary of state pump ale they have subpoena rudy giuliani president trump's personal lawyer however it is not clear now if pale and giuliani will comply secretary pompeo has already accused democrats of bully like tech takes the republican senate majority leader mitch mcconnell has said that he would have no choice but to take of articles of impeachment if the house approves them so is
5:17 pm
it likely to come to that. well we have to keep in mind that the impeachment inquiry inquiry has just talks it and steph we have a majority of the house membership saying that they are in favor of beginning the proceedings but they have not committed to how they would vote on the impeachment articles however we have to say that in the house of representatives. they just need simple majority in the senate this is a different think there. is needed 2 thirds supermajority and we have to say that the majority of republican senators are still behind the president supporting here so it doesn't seem that this is likely to happen in the senate. i was under for a moment in washington thank you. to nigeria where
