streets in the past month demanding that opposition candidates be allowed to run in the election for the city council. and police in hong kong fired tear gas at pro-democracy protesters as they defied warnings to cancel a march in the french demonstrations come after the city's leader vowed not just to grant protesters any concessions. thanks for joining us i'm there and i have seen the disc raised us financier jeffrey epstein has been found dead in his new york prison cell officials said his death was an apparent suicide epstein was jailed last month on sex trafficking charges and was being held without bail he was accused of abusing dozens of under-age girls he denied the charges but faced up to 45 years in prison if he had

been convicted u.s. attorney general william barr said the f.b.i. and the department of justice will be investigating the circumstances of epstein's death. well for more on the story i'm joined now by washington correspondent fully alias so pablo the u.s. attorney general says there are a lot of serious questions surrounding the circumstances that steve's death what more can you tell us about what investigators will be looking into. well as you've just mentioned they're pretty damning words actually from the attorney general william barr he said he was a poll to learn that jeffrey epstein. and earlier this morning he said that it raises serious questions and then along with the invest the f.b.i. investigation which is taking place he said that he has consulted with the

inspector general who is opening an investigation to so pretty damning words from him we've also heard as well from the mayor of new york and condit a for president democrat bill de blasio he said some of the wealthiest people in the world committed a horrible crime if they think for a 2nd that they got away with it because jeffrey epstein is dead there david wrong so the political fallout is very obvious of course let's not forget jeffrey epstein was found or responsive in his prison cell just over 2 weeks ago in what was being investigated as a possible suicide attempt now what's being said here is it's an apparent suicide today but what is being asked is how did this happen was he not on 24 hour a suicide watch and it appears that in recent days reports are saying that that 24 hour suicide watch essentially being counseled and. the situation that we find

ourselves in today which effort epstein being found well public tell us a little bit more about who jeffrey epstein was and what he was being charged with . well jeffrey epstein was a billionaire financier he had very high profile contacts he was often seen socializing with the likes of president donald trump former president bill clinton even prince andrew from the british royal family now we're talking about you know over a decade ago now because we actually have to go back to iran 20072008 when in fact in the state of florida he was. he faced trial an end to reaching a plea deal down there for sex trafficking and it was the original charges but he ended up agreeing to a lesser charges of solicitation of young girls now the accusations of course that were brought against him last month were far more serious we're talking about

dozens of underage girls being abused being involved in sex trafficking and just yesterday in fact court documents open till now how to actually be unsealed were unsealed and they also revealed quite. damaging accusations and quite damning accusations against jeffrey epstein so the question once again is being raised considering all of these events that took place how was it did it take place how is it that jeffrey epstein managed to apparently commit suicide in his cell in the middle of manhattan and out pavol what does this death now mean for the investigation. well it looks like those who were accusing jeffrey steen of the pretty depressing crimes i mean we're told me very serious crimes here we're talking about underage girls we're talking about sex trafficking and also a lot of spotlight is being poured on his numerous contacts in politics the world

well today was some of were some of the biggest protests that russia has seen in several years according to independent monitors nearly 50000 people were out on moscow's streets according to police it was closer to 20000 and that was an authorised protest that we saw today there were performances from to various same of musicians as well and it was kind of a surreal mix at various points kind of a party atmosphere on the stage and then rows of riot police lining up towards the end of that authorized protest because the organizers had called for what they said was a walk through the center of moscow the unauthorized protest part of this protest and that's when the arrests began hundreds. over $100.00 people up to $200.00 people were arrested today and there was a huge police presence out in the city of moscow including military forces as well . just what are the demonstrators now calling for is it just about these local

elections. well these local elections have been the kind of jumping off point for protestors in a way and today we heard people chanting for the registration of the independent candidates to moscow city parliament elections they weren't registered because independent candidates have to collect signatures several 1000 signatures and the author already said that many of the signatures were invalid they said that there were so-called dead souls amongst those signatures so people who don't exist people who are dead the candidates themselves say that that's just a pretense that in fact those candidates were not registered on purpose by the author already and this is become about democracy in russia and today we heard people chanting as well for freedom chanting against putin president vladimir putin

as well so this has become about much much more than just moscow and moscow city elections all right emily sure when reporting from moscow we thank you very much. to hong kong now where they've been renewed clashes between police and pro-democracy protesters police fired tear gas at the protesters who were holding an authorized demonstrations in 2 locations it's the 10th straight weekend of protests that were triggered by opposition to proposed law that would have allowed extradition from hong kong to mainland china. activists held a number of other protests earlier in the day that remained peaceful including a sit in at hong kong airport. at the airport protesters assembled for a 2nd day to greet passengers arriving in the city drawing international attention to their cause saturday morning also saw

a rather tranquil rally in support of the pro-democracy movement it brought together families demanding a stable and free future the wave of protests began 3 months ago in opposition to draft legislation to allow suspects in criminal cases to be tried in mainland china but the demands have widened. all down from i am worried if the extradition law to china is imposed or this movement of ours is a failure my kids might have no democracy or freedom and a lot of things will be taken over by the mainlanders. a group of elderly people also submitted petition letters to the police and the authorities to stop and investigate what they call violence against the protesters especially at clashes in july. the reputation of the hong kong police was so good for more than a decade but it was completely destroyed on july the 21st i don't know how many years it will take to restore the trust of the people. at the same time there was

smaller demonstrations in front of several police stations in support of the police people gather to express their thanks and called on others to say thank you whenever they meet officers on friday various business groups also called on the people of hong kong to support the police and to reflect. the chaos and the economic impact of the protests. i know the average income of taxi drivers has decreased nearly 40 percent over the past 2 months. i appealed you just stop and think if the situation continues our hong kong really is heading towards a dead end this is probably the kind of thing the communist leadership in beijing wants to hear and wants people around the world to hear as it seeks to boost resistance to the pro-democracy movement in hong kong. china has issued a red alert its highest warning after a typhoon like kima made landfall south of shanghai the storm has battered coastal
