to brief the security council on the current situation in the middle east, which unfortunately remains concerning. today, we witnessed yet anotherr example of the escalatingthe esi violence when a large group ofn palestinians set fire to the set compound containing the holy site of saint joseph's tomb in the west bank city. fortunately, there were no reported injuries, but the site sustained major damage. as with the many deadlywith thed incidents lyover the past weeksh the secretary-general strongly condemns this are hints of all act, and calls on all of those responsible to be swiftlyible t brought to justice. the united nation's welcomes the presence condemnation and his

the airstrikes were in response to rocket fire on israel the day before, on october 10. palestinian militants fired at least eight rockets towards israel during the past week alone. most falling short and landing within gaza territory. and one being intercepted by iron dome. another rocket was test fired at the state to which the israeli defense forces responded with warning shots, injuring one palestinian. as of yesterday a total of seven israelis and 32 palestinians, including those allegedly conducted or attempted attacks were killed. some 124 israelis, including iso issue of the security force personnel, and more than 1118

palestinians were reportedly injured since october 14, the first of october. since these latest attacks, israel's security cabinet has passed a broad range of security measures which are already being commanded. the israeli defense forces have significantly boosted their presence in israeli city centers while many other neighborhoods in eastern jerusalem have been surrounded by sea to the forces of access roads blocked and checkpoints established. following the deterioration that began on the first of october, israeli authorities have also reinstated a number of movement restrictions in the west bank, in particular staffing 16 checkpoints that have been previously left unstaffed.

a man was shot and killed in a city bus on his way home from a visit to a doctor. to terrorist boarded the bus, lock the door so that no one could escape and started to shoot instead the passengers. the man was 78. these are just a few of the silent victim of palestinian terror. over the course of the last month, 24 terror attacks have claimed the lives of eight israelis and injured 70, polluting and ilo official. 15 of them are still hospitalized. this type of care has washed over the entire nation and it spares no one. young and old are being targeted every day. israelis do not feel safe walking down the street. they avoid taking the bus to work, and they fear for the lives of their children every time they walk out of the door. we face an enemy who is willing to die in order to kill.

international presence on the temple mount. such a presence would be a change in the status quo. since 1967 israel has been doing everything in its power to preserve the sanctity of this site. we do this out of deep and abiding respect for the principle of freedom of religion and the historic connection of the three monolithic faith to the temple mount. yet it is clear that this respect is not mutual. palestinian leaders are determined to erase jewish history and deny any stored connection between the jewish people and our holiest sites. in the proposal the palestinians have asked to submit yesterday to unesco, they tried to do exactly that. this proposal calls for unesco to include the western world, the site of the jewish prayer as an integral part of the mosque. when the palestinian leadership

has so little respect for places that are been sacred to the jewish people throughout their history it is no surprise that the palestinian people treat the jewish holy sites with such disdain and disregard. just last night a palestinian set fire to the tune of joseph, a sight of her for jews throughout the generation. this is a desecration and a violation of the freedom of worship. the heinous attack of the biblical holy site can be explained only by incitement and lack of respect for the religion and heritage of others. the disrespect for the sanctity of holy sites is also evident in the action of palestinian on the temple mount. agitators have used the mosque as a staging ground for a calculated violent perpetration get on the eve of the jewish new year, rosh hashanah, radical islamist bloc place, fireworks

feet. can you imagine the reaction if the israeli leader, any leader for that matter, would've uttered such a hateful sentiment? the security council would have rightly wasted no time in containing to condemn it. yet when the president of the palestinian authority make such a blatantly prejudiced statement, the reaction of this council is complete silence. mr. president, even now as the violence continues and lives are lost every day, instead of calm intention, palestinian leaders continue to live and use inflammatory rhetoric. they are stoking the flames by portraying kerry's as innocent victims. just two days ago in a televised broadcast to the palestinian people, president abbas accused israel of killing an innocent 13 year old palestinian boy. there are two facts that he did not share with his public. first, the boy is not dead.

he is fully conscious and is being treated in an israeli hospital. second, he is not innocent. this 13 year old palestinian brutally attacked a 13 year old israeli boy who was riding his bicycle, stabbing him no less than 15 times. you don't have to take my word for it. there is a video of this also on social media. when a young child is inside to pick up a knife, instead of being encouraged to pick up a basketball court a book, something is deeply, deeply wrong. the executive director of the israeli national council for the child wrote yesterday, it is very easy to use children for the needs of adults. it is easy to incite children. 's easy to drag children into wargames. so tempting to turn children into simple, so easy and yet so wrong. so simple and yet so dangerous.

tragically, this is exactly what the palestinian leadership is doing. such acts of terror do not occur in a vacuum. you are a product of a delivery policy of incitement aiming at filling the minds of palestinian children with hate. from an early age palestinian children are subjected to propaganda that promotes hatred and insights to violence. young children watch tv shows within the house that encourage them to kill all the jews and become martyrs. schoolchildren and the west bank started using official palestinian authority textbook that legitimize indiscriminate violence against israelis. palestinian teenagers put facebook post and twitter feed that call on them to stab jews and that applaud violent acts like the murder of the family. blessed memory. mr. president, the situation is indeed dire but there is a way forward.

just yesterday prime minister netanyahu expressed his willingness to meet with the palestinian leadership, with president abbas, in order to bring home that are in a calm to the region. two weeks ago he stood here in the u.n. and declared that he is ready for direct negotiations with the palestinians without any precondition. if this council is serious about promoting peace, it must join prime minister netanyahu's call and it says that president abbas comes to the negotiating table. israelis historic agreement with egypt as well as with the jordan proves that only direct negotiations can lead to a real and lasting peace. only such negotiation and create a new reality for all the people of our region. thank you, mr. president. palestinian people is not cheaper than the life of its own citizens, or that the palestinian bloodshed will not bring about peace and security. mr. president, the spiral of violence in occupied palestinian territory will lead to further tension in the middle east and more extremism. it will reflect negatively on international peace and security. as such, the council should spare no effort in order to put an end to israeli violation in palestinian territory, and to stop the systematic breaches by israel of its commitment according to the international humanitarian law, and in particular the fourth geneva convention of 1949. we call on the security council to explore adequate options to provide legal protection to the palestinian people in occupied

palestinian territory. in line with the serious and grave nature of this situation. this might pave the way towards just and comprehensive peace that will put an end to occupation. the bloody scenes we are witnessing on a daily basis against the palestinian people committed by israel, the violation of the sanctity of worship sites and incursions into the mosque, it demands its staff from preventing worship its access, is not only violation of the rights of palestinians, it is a violation of the rights of over a billion and a half muslims in the world, and a provocation to as such, jordan call called for in the hf these continuous and escalating

aggressions of the israeli authorities, and to respect the historic status quo in the holy city of jerusalem, and to put a stop to measures aimed at dividing of the mosque physically and chronologically. jordan rejects any attempt to infringe upon heritage and religious sites. and we support the decision by president abbas to investigate the latest torching of joseph's tomb. we call for self-restraint and to refrain from irresponsible and religiously offensive acts. we condemn strongly, and the strongest of terms israel is doing against the palestinian people. we consider it fully responsible for this latest escalation of jordan will spare no effort conducting its role in terms of
