12:25 am
runs oakland scored six runs in the bottom of the 1st against jeremy guthrie. that's the kind of week it has been into into they don't seem to be putting things back to back. can't say much. might be their first little slump like that. luke scott is the only guy in the middle of the order to hit the ball out of the ballpark but he has nobody on base in front of him so it's very, very tough for the orioles to score runs right now now. >> gary: now. >> rick: taking a look at the game now. >> jim: cust, goes deep. this one kept going. >> rick: almost a great catch by adam jones in centerfield. can you see what a powerful swing. jack cust used to be an oriole at one point. boy, does he produce. >> jim: 5th inning against hendrickson, matt holliday, two men on, he goes deep almost to the same spot into same shot. ball does not carry here as
12:26 am
well if oakland but you would never have thought that by the way you saw tonight. >> jim: and here is the orioles' run. wouldn't you know it, another homerun for luke scott. he goes deep. that avoided the shutout for the orioles. >> rick: 13 homerun of the season. luke scott now has 8 homeruns in his last 9 games. >> jim: since coming off the disabled list, a week ago, 8 homeruns for luke scott. guthrie just goes 2/3 inning. he takes the loss and the orioles held to just one run on five hits. orioles have now lost three of four games on this road trip. let's head back to oakland now and rejoin gary thorn and buck mart martinez. >> gary: there are pitchers in major league baseball that like to see other teams and teams that would rather not see them.
12:27 am
dallas braden is one of those pitchers that the oriole was like to miss. aubrey huff in the 1st inning. change-up was very good. got matt witters, jones. he ties a career high. only the luke scott homerun the only run he allowd in 7 innings 4 of his 11 career wins have come at the hands of the orioles. got a lot of confidence pitching against the orioles line-up. >> jim: for the orioles, obviously, a disaster for jeremy guthrie. he could not get the pills where he wanted him to be. and this oakland team needed an offensive burst to feel good about themselves. they got it in the 1st inning. >. >> buck: i don't care where you play. it's difficult to come back after falling six runs in the 1st inning. they got some good hitters. obviously matt holliday, jack cust, powerful hitters in this
12:28 am
line-up but they got off to a slow start for oakland. >> gary: the orioles now have to find a way to adjust. the orioles can hit. they go into a slump. you know that does not happen to an entire line-up all at once and that's what happened right now. you watch the at-bats of people like nick markakis in particular, really pressing because they feel the need to maybe get that three-run homerun with nobody on kind of thing. it looks like that's going on in the line-up. >> sure it. they get away from their patient approach and that's what worked for them. you see nick markakis and brian roberts all feel like they have the responsibility to help the pitching staff out. they have not been able to get the pitching and hitting on the same page. lately, it's been a challenge to score runs. they only one one game on this road trip and that was 1-0 victory in seattle. >> gary: that will do it here our new grand dad. >> buck: very happy. >> gary: squeal be on the phone instantaneously as we get
12:29 am
off the air. >> jim: gary, congratulations to you, buck and arlene, grandparents for the first time. wonderful news coming from the west coast. the orioles drop it by the final of 9-1. they now have dropped three in are a row after winning the first game of the series against the mariners. here is the vote. matt holliday -- how does he get the votes over dallas braden? but nonetheless, you voted for him. >> when we come back, we'll check on the possible replace. for cesar izturis who was out of the line-up, an appendectomy on the west coast. ?
