and the fight is not over, and what did you think of it? >> well, you know, one thing about joe biden, he has always been underestimated. he was considered a lightweight in the senate, but he is a winner. it is hard when you have won vice president twice and won the presidency twice, once, to not want to do it again. so, i don't think that anybody is surprised that he is running. i think that the themes that he is talking are interesting, because this battle about freedom, and you hear both sides saying that the other side wants to take away your freedom of speech, your second amendment rights, and the other side wants to fight democracy itself, and he is right on target where a lot of concerns of where americans are. concerned about the economy and democracy and he is lining up his forces for the fight. >> do you think it is possible with when he has been in politics as long as he has, and been president for four years,

that he can run on something that is, you know, not a referendum, and is the fight yet to be fought? >> look, i think that all elections are about tomorrow more than yesterday. you know, he has done an extraordinary job. i was also pleased to see how prominent kamala harris was in that 30-second video. >> i was going to ask about that. >> there were people who wanting him to back away from her and throw her overboard and he is second a clear message that they are a team, and they got there together, and they want to stay together and they want to win together. by doing that, he expands playing field. he can be at the white house doing what he does and she can be out in the community to do what she does, and together, i think thatly are a double threat, a double threat already whereas the other people on the republican side, they have do it all by themselves. >> we have some recent polling showing the challenges that he

does face. in some way, shape or form that is very clear and even the democrats are not entirely jazzed about him running for re-election again. what do you think that his biggest challenges are though, van? >> well, i mean, he is just older. you just can't get away from the fact that he is the oldest president that we have ever had. unfortunately for him, people remember him when he is a young guy, and he has been around for a long time, and they can compare him to when he was 20 year ago. but with that said, when he announced four years ago, it was a yawn. when he announced four years ago, people said, so what, he is too old, too out of touch with the progressives and he is yesterday's man. and they said it four year ago and he destroyed the field, and became the nominee and beat donald trump. so four years later, we should remember that we didn't think that he could pull it off four

years ago and look at what he has done. >> when you know that he needs to hold the independent voters like he did in 2020 to remind the folks of the exit polls of 2020 in order to win election and re-election, and what then do the progressives want to hear from him so they are motivated to turn out for joe biden once again? >> i think that the progressives are in a good position, because he gave so much to the progressives in the first two years when it is coming to historic legislation, and everything from climate to the chips act, the marriage equality and we forget about that, and he did a lot for the progressives in the first two years and going forward, the progressives are going to be answering call to defend democracy and that is going to be a lot for progressives and independents. people say the same things about joe biden, and i often say the things, and then i have to eat my words because later on, it turns out he was good for

the scenes to get this to be p passed tomorrow. he says he has the votes, but they are not there yet, because of the concerns of the ranks and iowa ranks to have the bill to rescind ethanol tax breaks, and four members of the delegation, and then some who are fundamentally opposed to raising the debt limit no matter what is included in the package and a range of spending cuts and priorities that they have been pushing for some time, and tim burkshet told me that he is looking at how they are pushing medicaid and the beneficiary an under the proposal, there is a requirement for 20-hour work weeks to be eligible for the medicaid benefits, but there is some conservatives like matt gaetz who are pushing for more,

and if those changes are not made, they will vote no. >> an essential element to get my vote for any increase in the debt limit, and by the way, i have never voted for an increase in the debt limit is work requirements starting in 2024 and not 2025 as this legislation is currently written. >> the challenge for the republican leaders is that they are making clear that they do not want to change the bill as it is currently proposed, because they are worrying if they open up the bill, they will have to change a whole sorts of other measures here, and mccarthy can only afford to lose four republican votes on the floor, and the math challenge is there even though the republicans are confident they will get there, and then the question is what happens after that, because then it is dead on arrival and the democrats want it passed without any

on the radar this hour, jury selection under way on the case brought by ms. carol who says that donald trump groped and raped her in a dressing room in the 1990s. donald trump denies this happened and he said that carol is not his type. there are big questions if donald trump is going to appear in the court for the trial and he is not required to. and now, there is one of the strictest abortion laws in the country which bans abortion after six weeks and no exceptions for rape or incest

and limited exceptions to the risks to the mother. and there are some restrictions that are expected to face legal challenges. after 18 seasons with the green bay packer, aaron rodgers is headed to the new york jets. it is a four-time mvp league and 2011 super bowl champion and the nfl draft begins thursday night. sara? in less than an hour, the man who is suspected of murdering cash out founder bob lee is expected to be arraigned. the two men knew each other, and now natasha is join us to tell us about some new information about the suspect in the case. what can you tell us about this? >> yes, last august, a woman says that he had attacked her in

her apartment. the alameda, california, district attorney says that they did not file charges in that case, which gives a little bit more background about this person who is going to be facing his arraignment this morning, and he is on suspicion of murdering bob lee. he is currently being held without bail. now, he is expected to enter a plea this morning, and we believe that the arraignment may take longer than normal, because of the discussion about his bail, but to go over again what occurred on april 4th n the early morning hour, the police documents show that momini and lee were spending time together, and they were in his car and that he had driven them to a dark secluded place in san francisco and that surveillance video according to the document showing two people and while the faces are hard to make out, the police say that the clothing is consistent with what the two of

them were wearing earlier in the day, and the person who is wearing what momini then makes a sudden movement towards the person and he walks away injured and the defendant threw the knife and then got into his vehicle and fled away quickly and then left the defendant to die slowly. this is planned attack according to the police, and they say that the suspect brought the kitchen knife with him, and found the knife later in the vicinity of the crime scene and we believe that there may have been some argument between them according to the document, and the suspect's sister texted lee and said, i just wanted to make sure that you are okay, because i know that he came down hard on you. so there is a lot that we wanted to learn more further in the arraignments today. >> thank you, natasha chen. and now, legal analyst joey

jackson and counselor, starting with the recent news of the word of the previous domestic incident from momini and how significant is that? >> well, just to be clear, the attorney is spinning is it, there is not a lot to see here, and there could be a lot to see here and what do i mean? although he was not prosecuted on it, it is a prior bad act, and prosecutors could seek to elicit it in front of the jury to establish motive, establish intent and establish a commonly planned scheme, and the evaluation on, that john, it is overly pledge dishl, and over prejudicial to him, and represent a fair trial or consistent with how he behaved in the past. based oupon, that it could be admissible and as you know, based on other evidence on that, it could be damning. >> and so you used the phrase here "nothing to be seen here" for the defense and how literally for the defense if he

pleads not guilty, because there is a video here which might sway a jury. >> so, at an arraignment, you are generally going to 99% of the time plead not guilty and it is a formality. you appear before the court, and the court is aware that you are charged with murder and indication that you are aware of the rights and discussion of bail. we know that he is held, detained without bail which is consistent with a prior hearing that happened before, and then, john, it is on. and what do i mean? exchange of information called the discovery and the evaluation of the discovery which is any evidence that the prosecutor may have with respect to the case, and the defense will go through it with a fine tooth comb and make any and all appropriate motions, and the matter goes forward with a posture for trial. based on the information that we know publicly, and the prosecutors have a compelling case. >> and the defendant, if he wants a plea deal of some kind,

given how high profile this case is, does it make it less likely an prosecution has to go for broke here? >> well, two thing, that you have to evaluate, and this is at issue, and the community feels and family feels is a measure of justice. generally, you will see a plea deal if the prosecutor does not have the goods, and the goods being the evidence, it is aplenty and the two of them in the apartment, and the surveillance of them leaving and in the car, and at that location, outside of the car, inside of the car for a while, and outside of the car and they can see momeni lunging at him, and then driving away. so as a prosecutor what incentive do you have to make a deal? >> we will be watching intensely, joey jackson. thank you. and now, we are going to be watching the video that is due to an epic snow melt that is

makes it official, he is run for re-election, and he made the announcement in a video in which he framed it a fight for freedom and making it clear he is leaning once again in a battle of what he is considering republican extremism. this is going to set is the stage for a possible rematch with donald trump. president biden is not expected to face a major challenge in the democratic party as we know so far, kate. and there is major river flooding happening across the midwest right now. we wanted to show you some drone footage that has come in to really show how extreme this flooding event is becoming, and how serious the flooding is. levels are rising across the mis mississippi from minnesota to iowa. the biggest impacts so far are seen in the rural areas and parks along the river. jennifer gray is tracking threat for us and joining us now. what is the latest that you are seeing, jennifer, and what are

you tracking now? >> well, kate, we are continuing to see the river rise. basically we had a blockbuster snow season across the portions of the midwest, and the snow has to go somewhere? a week ago we had the temperatures in the 90s across portions of the midwest, and mid- to upper 80s and the snow melted quickly. the result is going to be the river rising. so, these are the pictures that we are seeing along the mississippi river as you mentioned, and it is going to be a slow rise and a slow fall. so cities up and down mississippi are preparing. a look at the graphics, because we can show you the river stages, and the rivers or the dots that are in purple i should say indicating major flood stage. we have more than 20 right now. as this continues to fall downstream, this water flowing downstream, we will continue to see the purple dots pop you lating farther and farther south. we are expecting to see some

significant flooding from minnesota and to the far southern states in the coming days and weeks, and so it is going to be something to watch. this white line is where the mississippi river valley begin, and so basically, the snow south of that is going to flow into the mississippi river. a lot of it has been melting, and we dn have much to go, but this bubble of water is going to continue the flow downstream, and that is why we have flood warnings in effect for much of the mississippi and extenning to st. louis. the purple dots right there are all major flood stage, and the red dots are major flood stage, and a lot of the rivers are the highest they have seen in 20 years, so we will see the significant flooding. this one right here is in la crosse, wisconsin, is not expected to crest until thursday and almost at crest level and portions of iowa not cresting

and the map where it is showing litton, british columbia heat wave where it is 120 degrees for a week and the town burns down. and there are zones where it could happen in beijing, where it is one hot spot, and place where is not a lot people live, siberia, and this amount of heat up locking what is in the methane there, the permafrost there. and looks like we are missing a map, and apologies for that, but it is a reminder that the places that you think, oh, i am safe from the ravages of climate change and i live in canada somewhere and on the northern side of the country, and know place is safe anymore. >> and you can see the variants, too. you have incredibly pop you lated cities like beijing, and also hot zones, literally war zones like afghanistan and such that it does create its own problems, and the unpopulated areas like siberia.

and but it is rebounding today. what are you learning now about the build-up of this decision, oliver. >> 24 hours and tucker carlson has not said a word about the firing from fox news, but we are learning about how it transpired behind the scenes. we know that the fox news ceo mur dock rupert, and susan lauks discussed it, and then they told tucker before releasing that short statement telling world they have ousted the host. we know the how, but not the why. why rupert murdoch would have to obviously bless this, and why they would oust him after tolerating the antics for so

long. keep in mind, this is someone who has been steeped in controversy for year. he has cast doubts about the covid vaccines and spread conspiracy theories about the election, and so the mur docks stood by him through it all, and there is something that is unrelated maybe to the dominion huge lawsuit they had to settle last week with that voting technology company over election lies, but it is not clear specifically what part of the lawsuit played a role into the firing, and maybe it is an former executive producer who alleged ongo going sexism or ma he does not talk kindly about the fox brass, but it is seeming that it is stemming from the dominion lawsuit.

we are remembering activist hearth i ri belafonte. a spokesperson says the performer died this morning at the age of 96. after launching his career in the 1940s, he blazed a trail for african-american performers becoming one of the first black leading men in all of hollywood. stephanie ealam is joining us now. it's impossible to overstate all this this man has done. not just in the world of acting and singing, but this the world of civil rights. >> his humanitarian work, i was thinking, ask you'll appreciate this, ufs telling my daughter this morning that harry died. she said these are all the songs of my childhood. which is hilarious for a kid to say, but it shows you the impact of his music. that his music was timeless,

that children are still listening to it now, that would be one thing. but he did so much more. this is a man who was the child born in new york from jamaican immigrants and was then where he fell into the arts working as a janitor and seeing a performance and being swept up and thinking this is what you want to do. going on and becoming in a workshop with marlon brando, ending up in a band singing and learning all of these trick this is he could do with his voice. all of that and how he could move people, but that wasn't all that harry was. he was also very much a humanitarian and a civil rights activist, so much so that he even put his career on the line at different times and befriended people like mlk. before we go into more of that friendship, you want you to hear about the relationship he had with people younger than him and that he mentored. take a listen. chris wallace was sitting down with smokey robinson and asked
